第二节
【答案】One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
At that point I saw a young mother with her two kids. I thought that a beautiful woman with charming blue eyes
must be willing to help me. So, with great expectation, I walked quickly towards her with an appropriate smile on
my face, and requested politely if/ whether she could be kind enough to make a phone call for me. However, what I
saw was a woman’s face disfigured by frowns and what I heard was a sound of panic and suspicion under her breath.
Without a word, she pulled her kids to escape from me, as if scared by a murderer. I still stood there with a blank
face and a sinking heart.
Paragraph 2:
Finally a man wearing a cheap T - shirt and dirty jeans seemed to notice me. I squeezed a smile though it failed
to mask my weariness, and requested him the same thing. Unexpectedly, he took out his mobile phone for me without
hesitation or any further questions. Dancing in his eyes was the real kindness that I had been struggling to seek for
so long. From that day on, I began helping other strangers in worry, just like the poor - looking but kind man, with
the aim of passing kindness and melting the ice in many people’s hearts.

Do you know how to plant a tree Once you’ve chosen a tree, you’ll need to prepare your place for planting.
Planting the Tree
Dig a hole a foot deeper than and twice as wide as the root ball of the new tree. Loosen the soil at the bottom
and sides of the hole, so roots will be able to easily enter the soil.
Gently remove the tree from the container and guide the tree into the hole. Build soil up and around the roots if
necessary, so the tree is at the same soil level as it was originally grown.
Straighten the tree in the hole. Before you begin filling, have someone view the tree from several directions to
confirm that the tree is straight. You should fill the hole with existing soil that has been mixed with rich materials.
At this time you can also add bone meal and then water the tree.
高中英语 必修第一册 2 / 10
Caring for the Tree
Caring for the tree once it is planted is an important step so you should provide regular watering. Always feel
the soil before watering, as over watering can also harm the tree. When soil is dry below the surface of the covering,
it’s time to water. You will probably need to water at least once a week. Continue until mid fall, when lower
temperatures call for less frequent watering.
When to Plant a Tree
Now that you know how to plant a tree, the next step is deciding when to plant. Spring and fall are generally
the best times to plant a tree. This gives the tree time to adjust(调整) before summer heat or winter cold arrives. In
areas without cold winters, trees may be planted during the winter.
21. Which of the following is one of the suggestions for planting a tree
A. Making the tree straight in the hole. B. Watering the tree as much as possible.
C. Filling the hole with soil without anything. D. Planting the tree in winter.
22.What can we learn from “Caring for the Tree”?
A. It is necessary to keep the soil in the hole from getting dry.
B. It isn’t very important to care for it after the tree is planted.
C. It is very important to make sure that the soil in the hole is dry.
D. It is necessary to water the tree frequently in lower temperatures.
23. Why are spring and fall the best times to plant trees
A. Both seasons don’t have much rain.
B. It is easy to dig holes in both seasons.
C. Trees can grow fast and well in both seasons.
D. Trees have time to prepare to pass the following hard times.
B
Is there anything more important than health I don’t think so. “Health is the greatest wealth,” wise people say.
You can’t be good at your studies or work well when you are ill.
If you have a headache, toothache, backache, earache or bad pain in the stomach, if you complain of a bad cough,
if you run a high temperature and have a bad cold, or if you suffer from high or low blood pressure, I think you should
go to the doctor. The doctor will examine your throat, feel your pulse, test your blood pressure, take your temperature,
sound your heart and lungs, test your eyes, check your teeth or have your chest X rayed. After that, he will advise
some treatment, or some medicine. The only thing you have to do is to follow his advice.
Speaking about doctor’s advice, I can’t help telling you a funny story. An old gentleman came to see the doctor.
The man was very ill. He told the doctor about his weakness, memory loss and serious problems with his heart and
lungs. The doctor examined him and said there was no medicine for his disease. He told his patient to go to a quiet
place for a month and have a good rest. He also advised him to eat a lot of meat, drink two glasses of red wine every
day and take long walks. In other words, the doctor advised him to follow the rule: “Eat with pleasure, drink with
高中英语 必修第一册 3 / 10
pleasure and enjoy life as it is.” The doctor also said that if the man wanted to be well again, he shouldn’t smoke
more than one cigarette a day. A month later the gentleman came into the doctor’s office. He looked cheerful and
happy. He thanked the doctor and said that he had never felt a healthier man. “But you know, doctor,” he said, “it’s
not easy to begin smoking at my age.”
24. The writer thinks that ________.
A. health is more important than wealth B. work is as important as studies
C. medicine is more important than pleasure D. nothing is more important than money
25. The doctor usually tells his patient what to do ________.
A. without examining the patient B. after he has examined the patient
C. if the patient doesn’t take medicine D. unless the patient feels pain
26. From the last sentence of the passage, we learn the man ________ before the doctor told him not to smoke more
than one cigarette a day.
A. was a heavy smoker B. didn’t smoke so much
C. didn’t smoke D. began to learn to smoke
27. Which of the following is NOT true
A. The doctor usually tests his/her blood pressure when a person is ill.
B. The man told the doctor he couldn’t remember things.
C. The man thanked the doctor.
D. The man didn’t follow the doctor’s advice.
C
Is running a marathon(马拉松) under two hours possible Will a human ever be able to run that fast Now, the
world record for the 42. 195km(26.219 miles) distance is held by the Kenyan runner Eliud Kipchoge. His time of
2:01:39 hours was achieved at the Berlin Marathon of 2018.
But studies published in the past have come to the conclusion that running a marathon under 2 hours can be
done. They even see a time of around 1:57 as the fastest a human can ever run. However, we may have to wait
longer for this to happen.
To achieve an under two hour marathon, an athlete would have to have the perfect body size and weight, the
right running plans and of course, the right nutrition(营养). Today’s perfect runners come from Kenya and Ethiopia,
countries that have dominated(占优势) long distance races for years. East African athletes have long legs and lungs
that can take in lots of oxygen(氧). Training at high altitudes(海拔) gives them a strong heart. Ideal weather
conditions with cool temperatures and no wind will also be needed to attempt such a mark. An extremely fast
marathon would only be possible on flat city courses, like Berlin or London.
Since the beginning of the modern Olympic Games in 1896, athletes have tried to run long distance races as fast
as possible. In 1900, the marathon world record was at around 3 hours. In the following 30 years, men were able to
reach a mark of 2:30. But in the last 15 years, the world record has improved by only 3 minutes.
高中英语 必修第一册 4 / 10
On the other side, some experts think that such fast performances will only be possible with the help of some
medicine.
28. Why is the world record mentioned in Paragraph 1
A. To show a human can run very fast.
B. To prove Eliud Kipchoge is the best.
C. To introduce the greatest success in the world.
D. To show an under two hour marathon hasn’t been achieved yet.
29. Why is it difficult to see a time of around 1: 57
A. It requires too many things to fit together.
B. It isn’t easy to find right running plans.
C. Training a perfect runner takes a long time.
D. Kenyan and Ethiopian runners control marathons.
30. Which of the following may be important for an under two hour marathon
A. High altitudes. B. Lots of oxygen.
C. A perfect environment. D. Tall and strong runners.
31. What can we learn from Paragraph 4
A. Men will run faster and faster.
B. Men made the greatest progress in 1930.
C. Achieving shorter time became more difficult.
D. It’s impossible to break the marathon world record.
D
A campaign(活动) is being launched to encourage children to surrender 30 minutes of screen time a day to head
for the great outdoors.
The Wild Network—a collaboration(合作) of nearly 2,000 organisations—is attempting to attract youngsters
away from the television and computer screen and to fields, woods and parks. Members of the network include the
National Trust, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds(RSPB), Play England and the National Health
Service(NHS) sustainable development unit. Organisers say it is the UK’s biggest ever campaign to reconnect
children with nature and outdoor play, and claim it could help improve fitness, mental alertness(机敏) and general
well being.
A documentary film, Project Wild Thing, which forecast the launch at more than 50 cinemas across the UK also
looked at the increasingly fragile link between children and nature.
Andy Simpson, chairman of the Wild Network, said, “The tragic truth is that kids have lost touch with nature
and the outdoors in just one generation. Time spent outdoors is down, roaming(漫步) ranges have fallen largely,
activity levels are declining and the ability to identify common species has been lost.”
Suggestions of how to get more time in nature include collecting conkers(七叶树果), camping or snail racing,
高中英语 必修第一册 5 / 10
and observing autumn colours on trees.
The network also aims to make suggestions to politicians on how government can do more to get children muddy
and bright eyed.
This is not the first time the message of “less screen, more play” has been brought up. Children in the 1980s
were requested to do the same by the BBC TV series Why Don’t You, which somewhat confusingly called on its
viewers to “switch off your TV set and go to do something less boring instead”.
32. What does the underlined word “surrender” in Paragraph 1 probably mean
A. Give up. B. Get around. C. Take up. D. Run away.
33. For what purpose is the Wild Network organised
A. To make children read more books.
B. To help children tell the natural world.
C. To encourage children to take part in outdoor activities.
D. To get children out of too much homework from school.
34. “Less screen, more play” was first put forward by ________.
A. Wild Network B. the BBC C. the National Trust D. Play England
35. What can we infer from the passage
A. The government will play an important role. B. Children have already been close to nature.
C. Politicians have controlled the campaign. D. TV viewers will turn away from television.

第二节 读后续写(满分 25 分)
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
I always wondered how people would react if I tried to approach a total stranger for help in a busy place like a
street corner or in a bustling mall. I personally have always hurried past a stranger who tried to catch my attention
in a busy place or when I am rushing around.
Yesterday I had a taste of being stuck in such a desperate situation where my only hope of help would have to
come from a total stranger.
I was in a busy shopping mall buying a large piece of luggage. After the purchase in one of the large, fancy,
expensive shops, I picked up my phone from my pocket to call my driver waiting in the parking lot and my phone
was dead.
I then requested the shop assistant who had just sold me the luggage, which was not cheap at all, if she could
ring the number of my driver for me. She replied, still all smiles, “I’m sorry Sir, but it is the shop policy that we
cannot use mobile phones while working in the shop.”
As I was wondering what kind of policy that was, I saw a nice looking boy coming toward me. Remembering
my wife’s interesting theory that beautiful people are more likely to give you a hand when you’re in trouble, I thought
I might have a chance. But before I could say a word, he walked past me. It turned out he simply didn’t see me.
I waited a bit longer in the mall but it seemed nobody bothered to look at me. Disappointed and tired, I got out
of the shop on to the busy street in front. I stood there with people rushing by, looking at their faces to see if there
was a sign of kindness. I began wondering how many times I had reacted to strangers like the shop girl and the boy.
