You can travel alone, with friends, or with a tour group. They all have strong points and weak points.
The best thing about traveling alone is that you can do what you want to do. No waiting around in places you aren’t interested in, no missing a bus because your friend was late, etc. This may sound selfish, but this is your experience. Your experience will be greatly improved by traveling alone. The main worry is loneliness, but believe me, it’s not difficult to talk to and meet people. Just remember everyone is in the same boat; everyone wants to meet new people, have fun and be friendly! There’s a problem of safety in some countries, especially for women traveling alone. You should always check the foreign office of your country for advice on safety. Buying a personal alarm (警报装置) is a good idea for women traveling alone.
Traveling with a friend does sound nice, but it depends on how well you get on. If you have similar interests or travel ideas, it should be wonderful. You will find it much cheaper to cook food in developed countries and share a room. However, a lot of people I meet traveling together don’t seem to be having as much fun and often go their separate (各自的) ways.
Tours are great when they go well. Some of my best memories have been with tour groups. The key there is when they go well. A terrible tour guide, a quiet group and terrible food can ruin (毁掉) your time. My advice would be never to do a tour that is too long except in countries with safety problems or poor transport.
All in all, traveling alone is the best, but it is good to mix it up. Invite a friend from home to meet you for a few weeks. Try a tour or two — some people love them — perhaps start with a day tour.
1. What is the writer’s advice on traveling with friends
A. Live in different rooms.
B. Always follow their travel ideas.
C. Choose those who think similarly to you.
D. Cook food when traveling in developing countries.
2. What should a woman do if she wants to travel alone
A. Get an alarm. B. Check the map often.
C. Do not talk to new people. D. Ask friends for safety advice.
3. What advice does the writer give in the last paragraph
A. Always travel alone. B. Start with a one-week tour.
C. Mix your friends up in the tour. D. Try different ways of traveling.

Last month I went to Peru with my mom and dad. My mom’s company sent her there on business. It was great! We flew into Cusco. One weekend we took a train to visit Machu Picchu.
What is Machu Picchu Well, it is the remains of an ancient Inca city. It is on top of a mountain that overlooks the Urubamba River. It is more than 7,000 feet above sea level!
How did we get up that high We could have hiked the Inca Trail (印加古道) for four days. Instead, we decided to ride the train. It runs right along the river. It takes only a few hours. Our guide was a man from the local area. Not only did he provide information about the area, he also worked as our interpreter. Some of the people of Peru speak Quechua, which of course we don’t understand.
As we rode the train, our guide pointed out unknown plants that grew in the rainforest. The plants, which grew near the floor of the rainforest, were so thick that I could hardly imagine trying to get through it back in 1911. That was when Hiram Bingham, the man who searched for the city, started his expedition (探险). We also learned about the animals. There are some dangerous snakes that live there. One bite can kill a person. It must have been quite a journey that Bingham took!
His trip was well worth it, in my opinion. Machu Picchu was so big and beautiful! The stones have gone through the test of time. They have been there since the 1400s. There were terraces (梯田) cut into the sides of the mountain, and green was everywhere. To top it all off, we were in the clouds!
We saw where the people lived, where they worshipped, and where they farmed. The history is fascinating!
1. How did the writer go to Machu Picchu with her parents
A. By plane. B. By boat. C. On foot. D. By train.
2. What does the underlined word “interpreter” in Paragraph 3 mean
A. Translator. B. Driver. C. Guard. D. Teacher.
3. In the 4th paragraph Hiram Bingham is mentioned mainly to show ______.
A. how crazy he was to start the expedition in the rainforest
B. how difficult and dangerous it is to go through the rainforest
C. how knowledgeable the writer is to know about Hiram Bingham
D. how worth it was for Hiram Bingham to take the trip

In the UK, bus journeys are very common. Buses are often convenient for the people who live or work in the city centre. Passengers can avoid heavy traffic and do not have to pay for the parking. However, taking the bus is just a necessary but boring part of life: they get on the bus, pay for it and sit down or find a place to stand when it is crowded. Everyone seems sad and bored.
In Latin America, however, bus trips can be won-derful. For a start, films are showed on the buses between cities for passengers to have fun along the journeys. Local buses do not show films, but drivers usually turn on the radio and it can be great for passengers to listen to songs and get relaxed.
Even better than films and music are the sights and sounds on the buses. Local buses always go to parts of the town that passengers would not visit by them-selves. There passengers can see shops that they have never heard about. And they can also see other cultures of the town from the windows of the buses.
Besides, passengers’ luggage (行李) is also interesting. It is common to see a happy dog’s head getting out of somebody’s bag or a lovely chicken“speaking cheer-fully” under somebody’s arm. Once on a bus in Peru, a farmer even tied a sheep to the top of the bus. It was quite surprising.
In all, taking the bus in Latin America is really fun and unforgettable.
