根据上文“it’s not difficult to make yourself interesting at a dinner party (在晚宴上让自己变得有趣并不难)”可知,下文应主要讲述如何在晚宴上让自己变得有趣。下文“So the main thing is just to show up and be adventurous, trying different foods and talking to strangers. (所以最主要的事情就是去尝试,去冒险,尝试不同的食物,和陌生人交谈)”可推知,本段主要说明想在晚宴上让自己变得有趣,就要勇于冒险,勇于探索。由此可知,B项“The first step is to go exploring(第一步是去探索)”承上启下,符合题意。
由此可知,B项“The first step is to go exploring(第一步是去探索)”承上启下,B项符合题意。

文给出了不同的房间风格选择,第一段最后一句又说到"making a room feel the way you want it to feel"可知,此处指不管你在寻找哪种风格,颜色是关键。
故选B(不管你寻找哪一种)。

Interruptions are one of the worst things to deal with"以及下文的"there are several ways to handle things"可知,工作时被打断是要处理的最糟糕的事情之一,有几个处理事情的办法。
Indoor plants might look as if they just sit around not doing much, but in many ways they are the unsung heroes of the home. 36 , but studies have shown that they can promote people’s wellbeing by improving their mood (心情), reducing stress and helping their memory. What’s more, indoor plants are easy to look after and are not very expensive.
根据下文“but studies have shown that they can promote people’s wellbeing by improving their mood (心情), reducing stress and helping their memory.(而且研究表明,它们可以通过改善情绪、减轻压力和帮助增强记忆力来促进人们的健康)”可知,此处与下文是递进关系,构成not only…but“不仅……而且……”结构。由此可知,B. Not only do they look beautiful(它们不仅看起来很漂亮)能够衔接下文,符合语境。
此处与下文是递进关系,构成not only…but“不仅……而且……”结构。由此可知,B. Not only do they look beautiful(它们不仅看起来很漂亮)能够衔接下文,符合语境。

G. You may be the friend who left or the one who was left behind
设空处所在句子的后半句“but long-distance friendships — even close ones — may require more conscious effort to sustain.”(但是异地友谊——甚至是关系亲密的友谊——可能需要更加自觉地去维系。)

G. It may seem like a simple request to ask for salt and pepper at a meal
根据上文“In India and the Middle East, it’s considered very rude to eat with your left hand. People in France expect you to eat with a utensil in each hand. (在印度和中东,用左手吃饭被认为是非常不礼貌的。法国人希望你每只手拿一个餐具吃饭)”及下文“instead preferring to use their hands (相反更愿意使用他们的双手)”可知,此处在讲述不同国家就餐时习惯使用哪只手的问题。由此可知,C项“Mexicans consider it inappropriate to eat with utensils (墨西哥人认为用餐具吃饭是不合适的)”符合语境,与下文形成转折关系。

A successful swap depends on the selection of clothes, the organization of the event, and, obviously, how much fun is had. It's really easy to do! Here are a few pointers.
●Invite 5—10 people so you have a nice selection. 37 , and there may not be enough things to choose from; more than that, and it becomes uncontrollable.
● 18 Tell everyone to bring clean clothes in good condition. They should also prepare plenty of reusable bags to carry their "new" clothes home.

B. Hold a clothing swap
C. If two people are competing
D. Just keep music playing throughout
E. Donate whatever clothes are left over
F. Have everyone put their clothes in the right spots
G. Tell everyone to bring clean clothes in good condition
根据上文“Invite 5-10 people so you have a nice selection.”(邀请5到10个人,这样你就有一个很好的选择。) 下文“and there may not be enough things to choose from; more than that, and it becomes uncontrollable.”(可能没有足够的东西可供选择;多于这个数量,它就变得无法控制。) A项“Less people than that”(少于这些人)提出一种假设,和下文中“more than that”相对,说明人数不宜太多,也不能太少。
这也是一个对比结构,Less than that…和下文more than that… A项“Less people than that”(少于这些人)提出一种假设,和下文中“more than that”相对,说明人数不宜太多,也不能太少。

根据上文中的"During the first week"及下文中的"take a day off to rest"可推知,此处指六天后休息一天。
结合语境,"During the first week"及下文中的"take a day off to rest"可推知,此处指六天后休息一天,故选A。

What’s more, indoor plants are easy to look after and are not very expensive.
What are indoor plants

There is also research showing that pot plants can clean the air around them by removing harmful gases, such as carbon dioxide. They also remove some harmful chemicals from paints or cooking. 39 .
Which plants can you grow
Aloe vera, peace lilies and spider plants are some of the species that are easy to grow indoors. You can buy plants from supermarkets, garden centres or online. Younger plants are often cheaper than fully grown ones, and you get to care for them as they mature — which is part of the joy of owning plants. “ 40 ,” Spoelstra says. “It can bring a new interest and focus into people’s lives and help to make the link between home and nature.”

36-40 DFCGB
由此可知,D项“Don’t get caught making an embarrassing mistake at a restaurant (不要在餐馆犯尴尬的错误)”符合语境,其中“at a restaurant”对应标题中的“When Dining Out”,同时引起下文“Knowing some tips will help ensure that you have an enjoyable meal with friends or family — no matter where you are in the world. (知道一些技巧将有助于确保你和朋友或家人一起享受一顿愉快的晚餐——无论你在世界的哪个地方)”。故选D。
37. F。根据本段小标题“Chopstick Rules”可知,本段主要讲述的是使用筷子的规则。根据上文“When you put them down between bites, always put them down together so they are parallel with the edge of the table in front of you. (当你在吃的间隙把它们放下来的时候,一定要把它们放在一起,这样它们就和你面前的桌子边缘平行了)”可知,此处讲述了正确使用筷子的方式。由此可知,F项“Never stick them upright in your food or cross them as you use them (不要把它们笔直地插在你的食物中,也不要在使用它们时交叉放置)”讲述的也是使用筷子时的注意事项,符合此处语境,其中“them”指的是上文的“chopsticks”。故选F。
38. C。 根据上文“In India and the Middle East, it’s considered very rude to eat with your left hand. People in France expect you to eat with a utensil in each hand. (在印度和中东,用左手吃饭被认为是非常不礼貌的。法国人希望你每只手拿一个餐具吃饭)”及下文“instead preferring to use their hands (相反更愿意使用他们的双手)”可知,此处在讲述不同国家就餐时习惯使用哪只手的问题。由此可知,C项“Mexicans consider it inappropriate to eat with utensils (墨西哥人认为用餐具吃饭是不合适的)”符合语境,与下文形成转折关系。故选C。
39. G。 根据下文“In Portugal, this would be a serious mistake, because it shows the chef that you don’t like their seasoning skills. Similarly, in Italy, never ask for extra cheese to add to your food. (在葡萄牙,这将是一个严重的错误,因为这向厨师表明你不喜欢他们的调味技巧。同样,在意大利,永远不要要求在食物中添加额外的奶酪)”可推知,在一些国家,用餐时提出要求是很无礼的。由此可知,G项“It may seem like simple request to ask for salt and pepper at a meal (吃饭时要盐和胡椒看似很简单)”符合此处语境,其中“request”是关键词,说明,在用餐时提出一些我们看来很平常的要求在某些国家是无礼的。故选G。
40. B。根据下文“the more comfortable you’ll begin to feel with its foreign cultural practices. (你就会对它的外国文化习俗感到越舒服)”可推知,此处指在一个国家待得越久,就会越习惯当地习俗,且此处是“the+比较级,the+比较级”结构,B项“The more time you spend in any given country (你在某个国家待的时间越长)”符合文意,引出下文。故选B。
03(2013全国ⅠI卷)
Public Speaking Training
●Get a coach
1 , so get help. Since there are about a billion companies out there all ready to offer you public speaking training and courses, here are some things to look for when deciding the training that's right for you.
● Focus on positives
Any training you do to become more effective at public speaking should always focus on the positive aspects of what you already do well. Nothing can hurt confidence more than being told that you aren't doing well. 2 , so good public speaking training should develop those instead of telling you what you shouldn't do.
● 3
If you find a public speaking course that looks as though it's going to give you lots of dos and don'ts, walk away! Your brain is so full of what you're going to be talking about. 4 . As far as we're concerned, there are basically no hard and fast rules about public speaking. Your audience can be your friends.
● You are a special person not a clone
Most importantly, good public speaking training should treat you as a special one, with your own personal habits. 5 . Your training course should help you bring out your personality, not try to turn you into someone you're not.
A. You aren't like anybody else
B. You already do lots of things well
C. Turn your back on too many rules
D. Check the rules about dos and don'ts
E. Whatever the presentation, public speaking is tough
F. The one thing you don't want is for them to fall asleep
G. So trying to force a whole set of rules into it will just make things worse
1. E。因为tough所以get help。
2. B。空前的doing well与B项中的"do lots of things well"相对应。

Color is important for all gardens, no matter what size. Kalanchoes(长寿花) offer kinds of colors, from energetic oranges, yellows and reds, to calming pinks and creams. They’re easy to care for. 1 . Here the plant experts reveal five ways to style a small outdoor space.
Be striking. Colorful plants are mood-boosting as well as a great way to lift a small outside space. Kalanchoe is a flowering succulent(多肉) that comes in a range of lively shades and looks delightful when grouped in large pots or window boxes. 2 , or on the other hand soft pinks to feel relaxed.
Think big. When space is limited, people tend to choose lots of small containers, but a few large pots can fool the eye into believing there’s more room than there is. Try planting taller plants, such as roses or hydrangeas, alongside smaller species, like kalanchoes. 3 .
Indoors out. Making your outside space clean needn’t be costly. Houseplants, like kalanchoes, will happily live outside in pots or window boxes from May to September when there is no risk of frost, so you can simply move them outside for a more colorful life.
Make it easy. 4 . Succulents, such as kalanchoes, are perfect for“ hands off” gardeners as they will flower happily in pots on balconies for 100 days with very little watering.
Just choose a sunny spot and away you go!
5 . Place different flowers such as petunias, pansies or kalanchoes into a window box or hanging basket for instant garden attraction. The more unusual kalanchoe varieties, such as “Magic Bells”, with its pretty flowers of pale green, bell-shaped flowers, or “Dorothy”, with its long stems and orange flowers, will add color, interest and texture(质地).
A.Be style smart
B.Not all plants need a lot of attention
C.It is a great choice for the summer garden
D.Choose oranges and reds for an energy burst
E.You can find kalanchoes from most garden centers
F.Thus, you can create depth and a sense of richness
G.Given a little attention, they will reward you much flowering

Social media can connect you to friends and family, bring you the latest and most important news, and help you discover things you would never come across otherwise. 16 . They can lead to negative emotions or distract you from important tasks. Your first thought may be to delete your accounts completely, but you may miss out on all of the benefits. Why not use some of these smart strategies to help you find a good balance
17
The contacts on your social media can add up quickly over time as we constantly follow more people. Adding in other junk accounts can make things even worse. The next time you load up one of your social media apps, take some time to unfollow the accounts and people you’re no longer interested in. 18 . If you’re only following 50 people on twitter, for example, you know that you’re not missing too much if you’re only checking your timeline once a day.
Turn off notices
Fewer notices can help you keep focused and create a healthy habit of checking social media only when you really have to. Notices aren’t too difficult to control these days. 19 . Browse through the options you have inside your apps, too, in case some apps have secret ways to inform you.
Set time limits
Setting time limits for social media apps on your devices isn’t a perfect approach, as you can easily turn them off if the attraction is too strong. Still, you might find these limitations are effective at reducing the amount of time you spend checking your social networks. 20 , and from there you can set how long you are allowed to use each app for. Despite all of these measures, you’ll definitely still need a bit of willpower as well.
A.Update your accounts regularly
B.Follow fewer people
C.You can find Screen Time options in the iOS
D.Take a look at the phone’s settings and you will see what you can change
E.However, social media contact may cause you problems

There are different international clubs, especially at many universities, which allow you to make connections with people from around the world. For example, AIESEC is the world’s largest student-run organization that offers opportunities for students to go on international internships (实习). 37 — being involved in helping someone else’s travels permits you to be a part of their international experience.
Be engaged with world news and participate in discussions about current events.
Paying attention to international news broadens your sense of current events outside your borders, which can lead to reflection about your local environment. 38 — even if you cannot physically be where events originate.
Make an international pen pal (笔友) .
Having a pen pal is all about creating relationships with others that can allow you to learn about and embrace cultural differences. Strong friendships can have lasting effects. 39 .
Take an international development or language class.
40 . Taking an international development course can help you gain insight into international relations and development. These courses require our brains to remember and form ideas, which allows for positive debate and understanding of the world around us. Language classes can also make you feel like you are part of another culture.
A.Education is the best way to gain new perspectives
B.Demonstrating your understanding of current events is a way to be involved
C.It also offers local students the chance to help facilitate these internships
D.There are several websites that offer the service of volunteering without borders
E.However, financial stress makes these plans difficult and traveling takes time I may not have
F.Learning about different aspects of a country allows for a greater understanding of our global world
G.If you end up traveling in the future, there’s a chance that you can meet your international friend

For most, the first thing that likely comes to mind when thinking about vitamin C is either an image of orange fruits or its ability to keep your immune system healthy. 31 . Here are the primary benefits of vitamin C when applied topically to the skin.
It protects skin cells from environmental damage. Vitamin C’s main function in skin is that of a powerful antioxidant, protecting us from cell damage caused by free radicals (自由基). “ 32 ,” Dr. Mack explains, and they are highly reactive. Vitamin C destroys these free radicals by donating electrons, preventing them from damaging skin.
33 . Vitamin C is also one of the gold standards for evening skin tone and boosting radiance. “Vitamin C is a well-known skin brightener, preventing melanin production and eventually fading dark spots, resulting in a better skin tone,” Dr. Mack explains.
It firms skin and promotes collagen (胶原蛋白) production. Our skin is made of collagen and elastin, which are proteins that give it structure and flexibility. 34 . “Daily application of vitamin C helps to maintain the completeness of the collagen that we have, prevents rapid breakdown with age and promotes collagen production,” Dr. Mack says.
It works with other antioxidants for enhancing UV (紫外线) protection. 35 . A study in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology showed that the combination of vitamin C and E not only offered improved stability of vitamins C and E, but also improved skin’s UV protection.

Become a global citizen without leaving home
As an undergraduate student, I often dream of traveling the world and experiencing various cultures; I dream of having a better perspective and contributing politically, socially and economically towards the world. 36 .
Here are some tips on tackling the feeling of being separated from the international community simply because you can’t afford to travel.
Join an international club.

Most people aim to get their recommended seven to nine hours of sleep in one long stretch at night. And the technical term for this is “monotheistic sleep (单向睡眠)” 46 .
However, we may not have been programmed to sleep in this way.
Now I’m sure you’ve had that experience of a drop in your concentration in the afternoon, where you start to feel a little sleepy. 47 as their heads begin sort of moving up and down during afternoon meetings. And it happens to most of us somewhere between the one to four pm. mark.
What this suggests is that we may have been designed to sleep in a biphasic (双向的) pattern, meaning one longer period of sleep at night, and then a short afternoon nap during the day, very much like the nap cultures around the world.
But is napping always a good thing 48 . Although we and other scientists have discovered that naps can have benefits for both the brain and the body, naps can be a double-edged weapon. Long naps in the afternoon or in early evening can just take the edge of your sleepiness. 49 .
So if you are struggling with sleep at night, the best advice is not to nap during the day. Instead, build up all of that healthy sleepiness so that you give yourself the best chance of falling asleep easily, and then staying asleep soundly across night. 50 Naps of around 20 minutes taken early in the day can be just fine.
A.Well, not necessarily.
B.And you can also see it in other people as well.
C.In other words, a single period of sleep at night.
D.It’s a little bit like snacking before your main meal.
E.If you are mindful of how often and how long your naps are.
F.You may think this drop in your concentration is because of a big lunch.
G.But if you’re not struggling with sleep and you can nap regularly during the day.

Do you often feel tired throughout the day If you feel worn-out by the middle of the day, you are far from alone. If you are constantly tired, it could be your body signaling that something is troubling you. 51 . You can follow some ways to help you do that and feel more energetic.
Adjust your bedtime. In fact, more than a third of Americans do not get enough sleep. It is recommended that adults aged 18-60 get at least seven hours of sleep a night. 52 , so you should go to bed earlier. By doing that, you could wake up more energized and feel better all day long.
53 . When you feel tired, your first reaction is to reach for a sweet snack or drink. Sugary foods cause an increase in blood sugar that causes your body to release a large amount of insulin (胰岛素). The result is that you feel even more tired.
Get moving every day. You may think that exercising is the last thing you want to do when you are tired but it can actually be the best thing you can do. That’s because exercise releases hormones that can help you feel more energized. 54 . Being in nature is a good way to improve your overall mood and wellbeing.
Take a powerful nap. If you need it, take a quick power nap. Naps can be big productivity boosters and do not have to take a long time. Taking a 20-minute nap can help you get the energy you need for the rest of the day. 55 .
A.You can do more exercise
B.You have to adjust your lifestyle
C.Limit sugar and stick to health y drinks
D.Remind yourself to drink plenty of water
E.Turn off the computer and rest your body and mind
F.Take a walk outdoors rather than sit during your lunch
G.Not getting enough sleep can lead to some health problems

It’s normal for friends to experience conflict, disagreements, and even fight. You can’t always agree on everything. Most times conflict with a friend is easily solved. But in some cases, the disagreement and the conflict grow leading to anger, sadness and even the end of a friendship. Learning to handle the conflict with friends in a healthy way is beneficial for both sides. 56 .
Calm down.
The first thing is to calm down. 57 . Prevent further damage to the relationship by taking a moment to calm down. Get some alone time. Tell your friend that you need a moment to clear your head. You can either go for a walk or just take a warm bath.
58 .
It may feel as if it helps you explain your concerns more thoroughly if you bring in related examples from past events. Avoid this at all costs. Past issues for discussion only make things worse. Remember it’s important to focus on the issue at hand, not past events.
Work towards a compromise.
Unfortunately, some people believe that a compromise means a “lose/lose situation” because each person has to give up something. While this is true, every healthy relationship usually involves compromise and adjusting to others’ needs or wants. 59 . Just “give a little” to allow your friend to “get a little”.
Be careful of unhealthy friendships.
It’s generally a good idea to work through conflicts with friends. But it isn’t in your best interest if the friendship causes more harm than good. 60 , you need to re-evaluate if this friendship is worth keeping and consider when to walk away.
A.It takes two to make it work
B.In a heated situation, it’s easy to say or do things we later regret
C.Avoid explaining your concerns repeatedly
D.Remain on the current matter
E.Here are some tips
F.It’s important to surround yourself with people who positively influence your life

Some of us are better at helping others than we are at looking after ourselves. Maybe you are like this. Maybe you know someone who is. These are people who-are easy to have Super-Helper Syndrome (综合征) where you feel it is a must to help others but don’t look after your own needs. 61 , so that you can take action before you reach a state of breakdown.
62 . Many helpers are keen on helping others despite extreme tiredness and take this for granted. Are you tired all the time Do you have no time for yourself Do you suffer muscle tension or headache Do you feel weight down
It may bring hate. It’s easy to say you don’t want anything in return, but the reality is that it’s hard going indefinitely if you get little reward. At least you deserve thanks and recognition. 63 .
It may bring exploitation(剥削). If you never express any needs, then it’s easy and convenient for other people to act as if you don’t have any. 64 . If you give the impression that you want nothing in return, you get nothing in return. That’s why it’s important to take a hard look at whether some of the people you are helping are exploiting you.
It may bring self-criticism. 65 . Do you criticize yourself for not helping enough Do you criticize yourself for experiencing the other three negative impacts of the Super-Helper Syndrome: for feeling tired, hateful, or exploited
A.It may bring burnout
B.It’s vital to spot the signs early
C.It may result in serious diseases
D.Helpers’ guilt typically operates on two levels
E.You will feel angry about others if you receive none

New animals
In northern Vietnam, in thick forests in the North Annamite Mountains, there is a wildlife park called Vu Quang. In 1986, the area was made an official forest reserve. In 2002, 550 square kilometers of the area were declared a National Park. 66 . It is in an area that is hard to get to, for one thing. And it’s an area that’s difficult to walk through because the rocks are covered with algae and are very slippery.
67 . In the last twenty years, several new species of animals that have never been seen anywhere in the world before have been discovered there. Some of them are so new that scientists haven’t given them official names yet!
The new animals discovered at the park include the Vu Quang ox or Saola, a “slow” deer, a giant muntjac (the world’s largest, in fact), a black deer and a “holy” goat. 68 , as well as two species of amphibians and 15 species of reptiles.
The Saola was the first new species of large mammal to be discovered in more than fifty years, so it caused a lot of excitement in the scientific world. It is a strange goat-like creature that looks as if it is somehow related to cattle. It has horns that can be between one and two feet long, and that seem to come out of the animal’s head at slightly different angles. 69 .
The creature had hidden safely for generations in the Vu Quang area. But once it was discovered, it was in danger. 70 . Sadly, the Saola is now being hunted and may well end up as another endangered species.

B.Vu Quang is no ordinary park, though
C.Hunters have no respect for new species
D.But that’s not all that is unusual about Vu Quang
E.Five new species of fish have also been found there
F.This was the first time so many new species had been found in this area
G.That’s why it is called “Saola”, meaning “spinning wheel posts” in Vietnamese

Have you ever started a workout, but then felt exhausted Here are my thoughts on how to learn to listen to your body and enjoy exercise in a healthy way.
Check before you stretch yourself. The busy schedules make us seldom take the time to notice how we feel or if our plans are in-line with what we need. Do a mindful check to get in touch with your body and mind 71 Noticing how you feel, you can move forward in choosing a suitable workout.
72 .I love hard workouts, but I don’t do high-intensity workouts every day. In fact, I usually let my energy and body awareness tell how hard I work. I take that as a sign that I need to go easier that day, such as slowing down or focusing on recovery 73 because sometimes doing less brings you more joy,
Give it 20 minutes. If you are not sure whether to start a formal workout, give it a 20- minute shot. Start slow and case into it. Sometimes it can turn you from a sleepyhead to an energizer bunny, but sometimes it doesn’ t work that way. Maybe you will feel good after exercising longer 74 .
Be a conscious consumer. Get away from those “motivational” quotes that tell you “Unless you pass out, keep going” 75 , and will end up hurting you mentally or physically. If an instructor makes you feel pressured to push, it ‘s probably not a healthy source of fitness support.
A.Do less if you feel tired
B.Don’t do strength training
C.Give it a shot to awaken your body first
D.That’s not motivating but body shaming
E.You should listen to your body if it’s telling you to stop
F.Find out where you might store stress, tension or emotion
G.Tracking time you spend daily allows you to make fitness a habit

In an era when our heads are always in our phones and time is a precious commodity, our relationships with our neighbors perhaps aren’t what they used to be. So, if you’ re going to be around your neighbors, here are some ways to make sure you’ re being a good one, according to etiquette (礼仪) experts.
76
According to the director of the Australian School of Etiquette, Zarife Hardy, do the thing so many of us seem to be avoiding these days: introduce yourself. “Talk to your neighbors. 77 ,” Hardy says, acknowledging is not only the right thing to do, but it can also work in your favor eventually. “If you find yourself solo parenting at any stage, you will be less frustrated by fighting siblings because you know there is outside help available.”
Be a good sport (讲交情)
“ 78 ,” Hardy says. “Your new blower awaits you in the garage; you’ve tidied your driveway, paths and garden to your heart’s content. While you’re at it, clear your neighbor’s footpath. You have had a great vegetable season, and share your harvest with your neighbor.”
Personal space
79 . More than that, Hardy says it’s not appropriate for children or pets to run free on other people’s property without permission. “Make sure your children are familiar with these rules and make sure any pets don’t use their yard,” he says.
Keep the volume down
Hardy says keeping the volume down would “be the number-one neighbourly complaint”. “Loud footsteps, using the lawn mower before 9 a.m., talking loudly and pumping music are bad manners,” he says. “If you are going to have a party, let your neighbors know ahead of time and let them know what time the party will be finishing so they’ll know when to expect some quiet time. 80 .”
A.Get to know them
B.Don’t be a stranger
C.Never park your car on the grass
D.If it’s possible, you should always invite them
E.Proper etiquette would be to call before visiting
F.Treat your neighbors as you would have them treat you

How to Teach Time Management Skills to Teens
Teens usually have fairly structured schedules. Their school day and their after-school activities are planned out for them. As a result, many of them don’t learn how to manage their time wisely when they have some downtime. 91 .
Advise your teen to write down his schedule. Your teen’s time may easily get taken up with video games or social media if he’s not careful. Teach him to schedule his day so he can set aside time for chores(琐事), homework, and other responsibilities. 92 , so time doesn’t idly pass without feeling like he hasn’t done anything fun.
93 . Whether it’s a planner that your teen writes everything in or an app that manages your teen’s schedule, help your teen find the tools that will work best for him. Talk about the importance of creating a schedule and using lists to manage his time wisely.
Help him to set goals. 94 . Then, help him identify how much time he’ll need to work on that goal each day. Whether he wants to exercise for 30 minutes 3 times each week or he decides to apply for scholarships one Saturday afternoon each month, goal setting is a great way to help him manage his time.
Help your teen prioritize activities. It’s common for teens to have conflicts in their schedules. A basketball game, birthday party, and church activity may all coincide(同时发生). 95 .

The traditional Chinese solar calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms. Minor Snow, (小雪), the 20th solar term of the year, begins this year on Nov 22 and ends on Dec 6. Minor Snow refers to the time when it starts to snow, mostly in China’s northern areas, and the temperature continues to drop. 96 .
Light snow
An ancient Chinese book about plants explains that “in Minor Snow, the weather is cold and it is going to snow, while the earth is not frozen enough and the snow is light.” 97 . Meanwhile, in the lower and middle reaches of the Yellow River, the average time of the first snow falls during the Minor Snow solar term. The snow is light and frozen at night, but melts quickly during the day.
Wearing hats and scarves
In China, starting in Minor Snow, the wind blows from the northeast a lot. Because it’s still not bitterly cold, many people do not wear hats or scarves yet. In fact, according to an old Chinese saying, “the head is the place where all passages of the body gather”. 98 .
Drinking soup
During Minor Snow, indoor heating begins to work, which means the air indoors is dry and most people might find their nose and mouth feels a bit dry. According to practices in traditional Chinese medicine, this accumulation of “inner heat” in one’s body can cause problems. 99 , such as cabbage and bean curd soup, spinach(菠菜)and bean curd soup, and mutton and radish (小萝卜) soup.
100
After Minor Snow, the temperature declines sharply and the air becomes dry. It is the best time to start making preserved pork, which by the Chinese Spring Festival would be ready to enjoy. In the past, when storage conditions were poor, people developed many ways to store food and preserved pork is one such example. So even in the bitter winter, the whole family could enjoy meat.

B.It’s sensible to keep one’s head warm
C.The solution is to drink more hot soup
D.People can enjoy different types of soups in winter
E.Here are several things you should know about Minor Snow
F.It’s of equally great importance to wear scarves over this period
