If you don't feel well, what do you probably do You may go to see a doctor. Doctors know a lot about what makes us ill. They may give us something to take. The medicine often makes us well again.
But sometimes the doctor's medicine doesn't work. A sick person does not get well. The pain(疼痛) will not go away. This happened to one man. He was in hospital, but he was not getting well. Then he found a new “doctor” inside himself. This “doctor” was his own sense of humor(幽默感). He saw funny films. He read funny books. And something wonderful happened. Laughing took away his pain. Then he was able to sleep and rest. His own happy feeling helped him to feel well again. He said laughing was his best “medicine”. His doctor thought so, too.
Another man was also ill, and he had a terrible pain in his back. The doctors could not stop it from hurting. So the man began to “picture” his pain. In his head he “drew” a picture of a dog. He imagined it as a real dog. And it was biting(咬) his back. It was hurting him. Then the man talked softly to the dog. He put his hand on the dog's head. He made friends with the dog. And his pain went away!
These stories may surprise you. But more and more people are getting well in this way. So visit the “doctor” inside your own head and you can stay happy and well.
If we don't feel well, we usually ______.
A. go to see a doctor B. buy some medicine
C. stay at home D. do nothing

One day, a young man was cleaning out his late grandfather's belongings(物品) when he found a bright red envelope. Written on the front were the words, “To my grandson.” Recognizing(认出) his grandfather's handwriting, the young man opened the envelope. A letter inside read:
Dear Ronny,
Years ago you came to me for help. You said, “Grandpa, how is it that you've accomplished(完成) so much in your life You're still full of energy, and I'm already tired of trying hard. What should I do ”
I didn't know what to say to you then. But knowing my days are numbered, I think that I should give you an answer. So here is what I believe.
I think a lot of it has to do with how a person looks at things. I call it “keeping your eyes wide open”.
First, realize that life is filled with surprises, but many are good ones. If you don't keep watching for them, you'll miss half the excitement. Expect to be thrilled(兴奋) once in a while, and you will be.
When you meet up with challenges(挑战), welcome them. They'll leave you wiser, stronger, and more capable(有能力的) than you were the day before. When you make a mistake, be grateful for the things it taught you. Resolve(决心) to use that lesson to help you reach your goals.
And always follow the rules. Even the little ones. When you follow the rules, life works. If you think you ever really get by with breaking the rules, you're only fooling yourself.
It's also important to decide exactly what you want. Then keep your mind focused on it, and be prepared to receive it.
But be ready to end up in some new places too. As you grow with the years, you'll be given bigger shoes to fill. So be ready for endings as well as challenging beginnings.
Sometimes we have to be brave enough to move from the familiar(熟悉的) to the unfamiliar(不熟悉的). Life isn't just reaching peaks(顶峰). Part of it is moving from one peak to the next. If you rest too long in between, you might be tempted(诱惑) to quit(放弃). Leave the past in the past. Climb the next mountain and enjoy the view.
Most important of all, never give up on yourself. The person that ends up a winner is the one who resolves to win. Give life everything you've got, and life will give its best back to you.
Love always,
Grandpa
The young man's grandpa wrote this letter to him because ______.
A. he wanted to tell his grandson his life story
B. he wanted to explain how to keep energy
C. he wanted to answer his grandson's question
D. he wanted to teach his grandson how to succeed
The underlined part “But knowing my days are numbered” means “______”.
A. but I know I will die some day
B. but I know there are many days for me
C. but I know I have to stay alive
D. but I know time is waiting for me
According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true
A. Life is full of surprises, both good and bad.
B. Challenges will make you wiser, stronger and more capable.
C. You should think twice before you make a decision.
D. When you make a mistake, you should be grateful for the lesson it teaches you.
The young man's grandpa may agree that ______.
A. you should always move from the unfamiliar to the familiar
B. it's necessary to live in the past
C. life is about reaching peaks only
D. you should be brave enough to face challenges

A. how to face challenges B. how to fill your life with surprises
