Every day people get on trains, planes and prepare to take risks. But what about the deep sea Covering about 70 percent of the earth's surface, there is still much to be discovered about the biggest unknown part of the world. The underwater world is such an amazing place. Have you ever wanted to have a try
From tourist submarines(潜艇)to underwater restaurants, undersea tourism is catching people's eyes. Submarine tours have been on in more than 20 places in South America and Europe. The submarines receive nearly 2 million tourists each year and the number is still growing. Passengers can see the colorful coral reefs and sunken(下沉的)ships through the big windows of them. Now there has been a move to connect art with the underwater tourism. Passengers who love art can also watch amazing art works in underwater museums like the Australia's Museum of Underwater Art.
For a more fantastic experience, tourists can enjoy nice food under the sea. In 2022, the Hilton Maldives Resort & amp; Spa opened the world's first underwater restaurant, Ithaa. Sitting in the restaurant, you can enjoy the beauty of the ocean. But it isn't cheap. The dinner costs about $400 per person. Be sure to book it early. Because the restaurant has only 14 seats.
Undersea tourism has also brought more attention to the importance of protecting oceans and the animal life that calls them home. British artist Jason Taylor, whose artwork can be seen in a lot of underwater tourist places around the world, feels this is key. "Most people just see the surface of the ocean and it is hard to imagine that things underwater are so easy to be hurt. We don't consider our oceans as important as our lives and we should. "
1.What does the underlined word "them" refer to
A.the submarines. B.the sunken ships.
C.the underwater museums. D.the colorful coral reefs
2.In Paragraph 2, which of the following is NOT true
A.People can not try submarine tours in Asia present.
B.Tourists are becoming less interested in submarine-tours.
C.Art lovers will have the chance to enjoy the artworks underwater.

①It used to be common to think of robots as just machines designed to do dirty, boring and dangerous work. In recent years, companies has begun to design robots as toys for children. These have become so popular that experts and parents are worried about the effects of friendships between robots and children.
②In 1940, lsaac Asimov wrote a story called Robbie. In the story, a girl made friends with a robot and her mother was worried about their friendship. At the end of the story, the robot saved the girl's life and her mother changed her opinions on the robot. In real life, there are also different opinions about humans "hanging out" with robots.
③Experts are worried because children might believe that robots are human beings, not machines. It may seem strange that we can feel a connection with a machine, but just think of the friendly robots in science fiction, from WALL-E to R2-D2. Could close relationships with a robot confuse (迷惑) children
④Some people think it's possible. In the past, children would play with lifeless toys. But today's robots are designed to express feelings in a human way, and some are able to interact (互动) with children. When children say they don't want to play, the robots will show their disappointment. Also, they are designed to show sadness if they lose in games.
⑤In fact, there's a real danger that humans forget that robots are not human beings. In an experiment, researchers from different universities in Germany invited 89 people to interact with a robot and then turn it off. However, when they finished the interaction, the robot asked half of the people not to turn it off. These people hesitated (犹豫) before they did so and 13 of them actually refused to turn it off!
⑥Sometimes robots may make good companions for us. But let's not forget—they aren't living beings and they don't have feelings. At least, not yet.
5.Why did the mother change her opinions about Robbie
A.Because Robbie wrote a story.
B.Because Robbie played with her.
C.Because Robbie expressed feelings.
D.Because Robbie saved her child.
6.What does the writer think of the robots in WALL-E and R2-D2
A.Brave. B.Honest. C.Friendly. D.Humorous.
7.What does the underlined word "they" in Paragraph 4 refer to
A.The children. B.The robots.
C.The companies. D.The researchers.
8.What is the writer's purpose in writing the passage
A.To tell us not to treat robots as human beings.
B.To warn us not to let robots do dangerous work.
C.To ask us to read science fiction about robots.
D.To advise us to create friendships with robots.

The WWF has published the first worldwide guide to save the world's forests. The WWF is an international charity that works to protect nature. Its Forest Pathways(路径)Report explains the condition of the world's forests and what governments can do to better protect them.
The report centers around the promises made at COP26——a meeting about climate change held in the UK in 2021. At COP26, more than 140 countries, covering about 90% of the world's forests, promised to stop cutting down trees by 2030. However, the WWF says that this may not be achieved.
In 2022, 66, 000 square kilometres of forest around the world were lost. About two-thirds was from rainforests. This is influencing wildlife. The number of animals that depend on forests is falling.
However, the report also shows some success stories in protecting nature. For example, the Khata Conservation(保护)Area in Nepal has grown, providing a home for tigers and other animals. At the same time, in the UK, the Wild Ingleborough project, a partnership between the WWF and the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, is bringing 15 square kilometres of land in the Yorkshire Dales back to its natural state, with forests. Mary Gagen, the person who wrote the report, says, "There are places where countries are dealing with cutting down trees, and we know what needs to be done to help them grow. "
The report includes a list of suggestions for world governments, providing plans to save forests. This includes making rules against cutting down trees stronger, as well as recognizing the rights of local people who live in the forests. There are also some clear ideas for the UK Government, such as introducing environmental rules for food that is bought and sold in the UK, so that none of it hurts forests.
9.What is the Forest Pathways Report about

Look at the sky, and at best you might only see one star or two. That's because light pollution is turning night into day in 80 percent of the world.
It not only prevents us seeing the stars, but also has a terrible influence on animals. The day to night cycle is an important part of nature, telling animals when to come out to hunt, search food, migrate, and mate. But when we add artificial light, clearly that's going to mess things up——wildlife from bugs to birds, and even plants, are badly influenced.
Light pollution is getting worse every year, but there are simple solutions to help wildlife and bring back our night sky view, experts say. "If you can turn off lights more often, it saves electricity and it's kind of a win-win. " says Valentina Alaasam, a study author and biologist at the University of Nevada, Reno. "Also, the kind of light we use really matters, " says Alaasam, "For birds, if you use a warmer and yellower one, it will be less harmful. "
Simply closing your curtains can also help prevent the light from shining into the environment. One study in Chicago found that if we make windows less bright by half, it could help cut down the number of birds hitting upon them by 60 percent.
When a light is troubling you or you think it's a problem, it's worth trying. Often, there are very simple fixes that don't cost very much money and can generally solve the problem. Start small!

A.Man-made. B.Natural. C.Bright. D.Valuable.
22.According to Alaasam, which of the following is helpful to help wildlife
A.Use brighter and bluer lights.
B.Don't always turn on lights.
C.Make windows much brighter.
D.Keep curtains open at night.
23.What's the main purpose of the passage
A.To express the strong love for wildlife.
B.To show the situation of present wildlife.
C.To call on us to prevent light pollution.
D.To explain us the causes of light pollution.

For centuries, lacquer fans(漆扇) have been loved for their beauty and cultural value.
Lacquer fans are special fans from China, and their history dates back to the Han Dynasty. Later, lacquer fans became one of the top collections in the art world in the Tang Dynasty. Lacquer is a natural varnish(清漆) taken from the lacquer tree. It was first used to coat wooden objects to protect them from water and insects. Interestingly, ancient workers discovered its artistic characteristics by accident when colorful patterns naturally formed on the water. Over time, workers began to use lacquer to make and decorate fans.
Lacquer fans are made of bamboo or wooden frames. Traditionally, they are painted with different themes and patterns, such as landscapes, flowers and birds, and figures, to make them more beautiful.
Although the methods of making fans continue to develop, skilled workers still use traditional techniques to create lacquer fans, keeping this ancient art alive.
Nowadays, lacquer fan painting is one of the most popular activities among young people, which is considered a new form of expression of lacquer art. Instead of using traditional tools such as brushes, lacquer fan painting is done with only the lacquer and water. The process is quite simple yet filled with artistic possibilities. Global warming makes it harder for food crops to grow. But here comes the exciting news. Dr Katherine Meacham-Hensold and her team members from the University of Essex have produced something amazing——super potatoes, which grow well in the warm weather.
As we know, the potato is one of the most important food crops in the world, right after the main crop rice. Also, the potato's growth can easily be affected(影响)by the higher temperature. That's why the production(生产;产量)of super potatoes becomes so important.
To produce super potatoes, scientists did research at a farm. They set up two groups: one group used common potatoes, while the potatoes in the other group were genetically modified(基因改造)with two special genes(基因). By adding these two genes, scientists could change the growth of the potatoes. At the same time, the potatoes got more energy for growth. The scientists tested the two groups of potatoes by growing both of them at a temperature 3℃ above the average.
Scientists were surprised to find that, under this condition, the potatoes with two special genes produced 30%more than common ones. The process didn't affect the potatoes' taste. What's more, the potatoes could provide the same nutrients(营养物)for living things to grow.
"It is important to grow crops that can survive the climate change. " Dr Katherine said. As a result, people can grow super potatoes in places most at risk from global warming.
The super potato research turned out to be meaningful. In the future, scientists will try growing more potatoes in different places to see how new environments affect their growth. Besides, the team also hope to change other crops to fight against global warming.

Have you ever heard of the Fibonacci sequence(数列) Let's take an example:1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, …Each number is the sum(和)of the two before it. As we can see:1+1=2, 1+2=3. 2+3=5. 3+5-8. . and so on! Besides, two numbers next to each other have a ratio(比率)about 1. 618(like 8÷5=1. 6), which is called the Golden Ratio.
According to historical records, Leonardo Fibonacci first wrote about the Fibonacci sequence in his book Liber Abaci in 1202. The Fibonacci sequence widely appears in our real world. Here are some examples of it in nature and arts.
Many flowers have petals(花瓣)in the Fibonacci numbers. For example the lily usually has 3 petals. The rose has 5 and the delphinium has 8. The numbers 3, 5 and 8 are part of the Fibonacci numbers. When bees build their houses, they also follow the sequence. The number of bee cells(蜂房)in each row often matches the Fibonacci numbers like 1, 2, 3, 5, 8…
▲ We know painters like to use special shapes in their paintings. With the Fibonacci sequence in artworks, artists can create perfect designs. For example, the famous work the Mona Lisa follows the Golden Ratio. For musicians, they use the Fibonacci sequence to create certain musical effects. It is said the Fibonacci sequence can help control the number of beats in each part. Next time, count the beats in your favourite song——is it 5, 8 or 13 beats It's math that makes music sound great!

Have you heard that many of the migrating (迁徙) animals are in danger A report has found that one fifth of the world's migrating animals are at risk of dying out. They often move from place to place because they might be looking for food, better weather, or a friend. This includes big animals like whales and elephants, and small animals like turtles, fish, and birds.
The report was by the United Nations (UN), a group of 193 countries that work together on problems facing people. The recent report looked at the health of these protected animals and found that the number of them is getting smaller, and some of them are at risk of disappearing forever.
Migrating animals face many dangers, because they often move from one place to another. For example, more than 1.5 million wildebeest (a wild African animal) travel through Tanzania and Kenya to follow the rain each year, crossing rivers where hungry Nile crocodiles (鳄鱼) live. However, the biggest danger to migrating animals is people, such as hunting, fishing and building things that destroy their homes.
It's hard to protect migrating animals because of how far they travel. Monarch butterflies travel 3,000 miles every autumn from north-eastern North America to Mexico. But the report suggests that countries create safe areas of land to help animals. It also suggests that governments do more to fix climate (气候) change, as well as noise, light and plastic pollution.
The report showed projects that have helped migrating animals. In the South Atlantic ocean, rules that stopped the hunting of humpback whales (座头鲸) helped make their numbers go from 450 in the 1950s to more than 25,000 today. Inger Andersen from the UN Environment Programme said, "There is hope. Humans can still do even more to protect migrating animals."

Being a new technology, VR technology is clearly just beginning to take off. There are companies producing their own VR headsets (头戴式设备), but they are still not as popular as other products that are meant to have fun. Most of the VR products available on the market today are aimed at gamers and mostly special for high-end buyers because of its expensive price.
However, there are also some challenges that should be dealt with in order to lead the success of VR. Among others, one of the most necessary would be the need for powerful devices (设备) that would complement (匹配) the headsets. For Oculus Rift, for example, a powerful video card is needed for a computer, something you might not have at home, making the VR technology not proper.
In addition, there are also challenges about the beauty. Today's VR headsets look almost the same—they are huge and heavy and they look silly. Producers must find a way in order to make the headsets more beautiful.
Producers will also be challenged to make VR headsets more affordable so that more people will be able to buy them. Most are just too expensive for buyers.
Lastly, and maybe the most importantly, the challenge is to find more applications. It is currently being centered on game paste applications. Producers are challenged to come up with creative ways in order to increase the usefulness of such a promising device.
It is unbelievable that VR is big in today's time, but there's a lot of room for improvement. There are also some problems that haven't been solved and many chances. It would be safe to say that it is new, but hopefully it is getting to the top.

C.To find its application. D.To beautify its look.
46.What is the author's attitude towards the future of VR
A.Worried. B.Caring. C.Confident. D.Indifferent.
47.Where can we see the passage
A.In an ad. B.In a science magazine.

①Since technology tends to be expensive at first, AI kitchens are just welcomed in restaurants and other businesses. Over time, prices are likely to fall enough for the home market, changing how we live and eat.
Convenience can come at a great cost, so it's important to look ahead at the possible changes AI kitchens will bring.
②Undoubtedly, AI kitchens will bring great benefits. For example, it can take over boring tasks like peeling potatoes, letting people focus on creating new dishes. With AI kitchens, busy families will gain free time to spend together or finish important work. What's more, it can help people eat more healthily, like cutting down on sugar.
③However, cooking is more than just making food. It helps us feel grateful, creative, and connected. For example, when parents and kids cook together, they share stories and learn from each other. Without this, mealtimes might be less meaningful. Children will also miss out on learning science and math through cooking-like measuring the ingredients (食材) or watching bread rise.
④While AI can help with creativity, there are risks to culture. If robots only use popular ingredients, unique (独特的) local dishes may disappear. Also, can you imagine AI kitchens quietly erase the joy of sharing home-cooked meals with neighbors
⑤What worries us most is that these smart machines sometimes are not so smart We're not sure if they can find out the food that has gone bad to avoid accidents. What if a robot serves rotten fruit because it can't smell
Who would be responsible if a robot makes someone sick or gets hacked These questions are as unclear as with self-driving cars.
⑥The kitchen is a special place in homes, neighborhoods and cultures. We should use robots wisely—having them do boring and challenging jobs rather than allowing them to take the lead. This way, we can enjoy progress without losing the traditional cultures.

When I was eight, I got a book about stars from my dad as a birthday present. That was the beginning of my lifetime interest.
I used to go outside with my mom on clear nights and look at the sky. It looked like black silk with a million diamonds(钻石)on it. In different seasons, we saw different groups of stars. In winter, the"belt" of Orion appeared in the night sky, its three stars perfectly lined up and shining brightly. In summer, we saw Vega shine brightly as it got dark. On 29 September 2024, something special happened--Earth gained(获得)a"second moon".
Scientists said it would stay around for nearly two months.
A moon is an object that moves around a planet. This"second moon" is actually a small space rock called 2024 PT5. Such rocks usually travel around the Sun. The real Moon is about 3, 475 kilometers wide, but 2024 PT5 is only 10 meters wide. It's too small and dark to see without special tools, but scientists can watch it through large scientific instruments.
NASA's special sky-watching system(ATLAS) first found this rock on 7 August 2024. By studying its movement, scientists discovered it would come close enough to be caught by Earth's pull. This pulling force comes from Earth's size and weight.
The space rock kept moving around Earth until 25 November. After that, it left and continued its trip around the Sun. But this wouldn't be the last that we saw of the mini-moon, though. Scientists predict it will pass by Earth once more in
2055.
This wasn't the first time Earth had caught a space rock. Scientists have found similar events before. Space expert Dr. Jenifer Millard told the BBC, "This shows how active our solar system(太阳系)is. There are still many things we haven't found yet. Actually, we just discovered this rock this year. "
Scientists explained that these short-term"moons" help us study space rocks safely. Although 2024 PT5 won't hit Earth, watching its movement teaches us how to protect our planet from possible future dangers.

The Lantern Maker's Learner
On her 14th birthday, Lin received a heavy box. Inside were bamboo strips(竹片)and silk from her grandfather, a master lantern maker. "Our family art has lasted since 1825, " he said, touching her shoulder gently. "Now it's your turn to carry on the tradition. "
Lin looked at the materials and felt a mix of excitement and worry. The first week of learning was difficult. Bamboo splinters(竹刺)hurt her fingers as she tried to shape the strips. "Why must I learn this old work " she cried angrily. Her grandfather didn't say anything. Instead, he silently lit an old lantern. Its painted rabbit was gathering plants under the moon, just like in the Dunhuang wall paintings. The soft light of the lantern seemed to tell a story of the past.
At the Mid-Autumn Festival, Lin walked through the streets and found children not looking at traditional lanterns. They were more interested in the bright, colorful toys. An idea came to her. She decided to mix the old with the new. Lin cleverly added LED lights, creating dark shapes that moved with the wind. She also programmed the lantern so that touching the rabbit's foot would start reading a Tang poem. Lin's"Smart Rabbit Lantern" was a hit. Children gathered around, amazed by the dark shapes and the sound of the ancient poem. At the end of the festival, Lin's lantern won the first prize. Her grandfather smiled proudly and said, "Tradition is like the moon–it shines brightest when reflecting new light. By adding modern parts, you' ve given our art a new life. "

Hi Madi & Erin, I had the subscription(订阅)last year as well as this year, and I really love reading them. All of your magazines are so helpful and make me smile. Sometimes at school when people say their test results, or sport times, or are in higher levels, it makes me feel like I'm not good at anything and am not good enough. Thanks for reading, Ella
Hi Ella! Thank you for reaching out about how you' re fecling around school and sporting results.Let us first say that comparing is very normal, and often we do it so quickly and easily that we don't stop to think about the wider conditions. It's important to remember two things: There's nothing wrong with realizing that someone is stronger at a subject or sport than you are. Rather than losing heart, a better result might be feeling like you want to develop your own skills, study more, or take inspiration from this person or even ask for their advice! YOU are your own unbelievable person, with your own great personalities and skills——some of which you may have not even discovered yet! You don't need to be like anyone else, or do things like anyone else, either. One of the best ways to compare is not to look at all the things we don't have, but to look at all the things we do——and the same goes for our achievements, too. No matter what, please know that you are good enough, always!

(2025·定海模拟)When people think of wildfires, burning trees often come up. If you see a city burning while its trees remain standing, you might wonder if something unusual is happening.
For weeks in January, 2025, large wildfires swept through Los Angeles, USA. They took many lives and burned a large number of houses. As pictures of the fires spread across the Internet, people noticed trees standing next to burned-out homes and cars. Some didn't believe that a fire would leave trees untouched. As plenty of pictures and videos from Los Angeles show, trees can and do catch fire. But it's true that some did not burn. Researchers say there is an explanation for that.
First, it comes down to moisture (水分). "It's pretty clear to me," said Miranda Hart, a biology professor. "Trees are filled with tons of water. " Without doubt, trees do burn when fires are big and hot enough. But if a tree full of water is next to something very dry, the dry thing will burn first and even change the course of the fire. "In that way, you can imagine the fire just going around the tree if there's enough dry things on either side of it," Prof. Hart added.
Besides, the tree type also matters. Certain trees are more likely to catch fire. Deciduous (每年落叶的) trees, for example, are less likely to burn. That's because their leaves are wet and they have less resin (树脂). Compared with them, the conifers are usually every green trees. They are highly easy to burn.
In Los Angeles, palms (棕榈树) are everywhere. They've become a symbol of the city. But some local fire departments have advised against planting more palms. Without proper care, these trees can burn terribly during wildfires and bring danger to people and objects nearby.

C. D.
81.How many reasons why some trees remain standing in the wildfires are mentioned in the text

①How did you spend your last holiday Did you just stare at a screen from morning till night Well, you are not alone. Anew survey shows that the average Chinese person spends over five and a half hours online every day. That's a lot of time scrolling(滚屏) and watching videos! But is this really helping us relax, or is it just making our brains tired
②First, let's think about how we spend our time online. Most of us watch short videos rather than learning something new. This kind of low-value material doesn't help us relax-it actually makes our thinking less clear. The term "brain rot" perfectly describes what happens when we spend too much time on meaningless online things.
③Meanwhile, using the internet is like eating your favorite snack: it's hard to stop. Our phones and tablets are full of endless short videos and memes, making them like personal fun factories. It's easy and comfortable to just sit and scroll for hours, but this "easy fun"" comes at a cost. The more time we spend on screens, the less we enjoy real life. We're missing out on beautiful sunsets, heartfelt thanks, and fun hobbies. When did our lives become so boring
④Also, we're forgetting how to relax in a meaningful way. Free time shouldn't just be about watching Douyin or Bilibili. Instead, it should be a chance to connect with the world. Nature doesn't W-Fi, has fresh air, sunlight, and birdsong. Spending time with friends in real life is much better than laughing alone at a memo on your screen.
⑤In short, life isn't about how much time you have-it's about how you use it. Screens are here to stay, but they shouldn't take over our free time. The summer holiday is coming soon. Will you choose to do something more meaningful Remember," brain rot" real!
87.What does ""brain rot" mean in the passage
A.Enjoying real-life activities.
B.Learning something new online.
C.Feeling sad after watching videos.
D.Thinking less clearly because of screen time.
88.Why does the author compare Internet to snacks
A.It's a waste of time. B.It's not easy to control.
C.It's bad for one's health. D.It's one way to have fun.
89.What does the author suggest for a meaningful holiday
A.Chat with friends online.
B.Stay indoors and use Wi-Fi.
C.Spend time in nature or with friends.
D.Watch more educational videos.
90.What's the structure of the passage
A. B.
C. D.

My nine-year-old son Leo was a picky cater who only liked chicken and yogurt. Encouraged by the movie Yes Day, before our Colorado ski trip last December, we agreed: we'd say yes to everything during the trip, including new foods and experiences.
We started at the airport restaurant. I tried noodles while Leo had some vegetable salad. We didn't go back for more, but both agreed our choices were "not bad".
The next day, after arriving at the hotel, I took Leo to meet his snowboarding coach. While he was having his lesson, I skied alone. On the first day, I tried easy
green runs(滑道). The next day. Remembering how Leo faced his fear of heights to ride the chairlift. I challenged myself to a harder blue run. I went slowly down but felt proud for trying.
Later, I wanted to try the outdoor hot spa pool. It was -6℃, and L.co hated being cold and wet, but I reminded him of our promise. "The hot water felt surprisingly comfortable, and the cold air made me feel alive though getting out was a great pain. It became a fun, freshen experience." Leo said.
The trip taught us that small "yes" can bring us something unexpected. Since the trip, we've tried saying yes more at home. Leo now tries foods like sushi while I've picked up old hobbies like painting. When we don't want to change, we joke, "Remember Colorado " and then start to take action.
Pushing past our comfort zones(地带) has helped us live fuller lives, even if it sometimes means ending up cold and wet.
