The painting is 528.7 centimeters long ( 长 ) and 24.8 centimeters wide ( 宽 ). It shows the colorful daily life (丰富多彩的日常生活) of different people at work and play (娱乐). Now, let’s travel back to(追溯到) Qingming Festival (清明节) in the city of Kaifeng. Look over here! There is a great bridge (桥) over the river. A line of ( 一排)workers are pulling (拉) a boat under the bridge and shouting out(大叫) their work songs (歌曲) all the way along the riverside. On the river, we can see ships full of tourists(游客). They are chatting(聊天) and drinking. On the riverbanks, shops are selling all kinds of goods (各种各样的商品), such as toys and clothes. On the right side, a huge gate tower ( 一个巨大的城门楼) marks the door to the city. Many businessmen (商人) and tourists (游客) are going in or out through the gate. What a great work of art (艺术品) it is! My name is Lingling. When I was six, my grandfather introduced ( 介绍) Beijing Opera to me, and I fell in love with (爱上) it immediately.
I like Beijing Opera for many reasons (原因). First,the actors wear colorful (多彩的) masks. Each color represents (代表) a different type of character. For example (例 如), a red mask means a good guy (好人), and a white mask means a bad person ( 坏 人 ). Second, I think the great acting ( 表 演 ) of the different roles is really amazing (令人惊叹的).
There are four main (主要的) roles in Beijing Opera—Sheng, Dan, Jing and Chou.
Each plays (扮演) its part in its own way. Third, I like the singing style (唱腔) and the music. The singing style of Beijing Opera is very popular (受欢迎的) among its fans. The traditional Chinese instruments (传统的中国乐器) like erhu and sanxian make the music so pleasant (悦耳的).
