Sanyé Mylo's eyes twinkle with excitement when he stands in the sound booth of The Record Co.in Boston, eager to bring his creation to life. With the press of a button, his latest rap track fills the room.“I didn't know spaces like this existed,” says Mylo, who grew up in the low income neighborhood of Dorchester. He is one of the young musicians who, thanks to The Record Co., has turned his music into a full time occupation.
Founded in 2010 by Matt McArthur, The Record Co.aims to give musicians more affordable access to the creative workspace and introduce the world of music to those who may have never considered their place in it.
McArthur understands this challenge first hand.As a music technology student at Berklee College of Music, he was frustrated by the high costs of renting time in production studios. On average, a recording studio in Boston costs more than $100 per hour to rent.
He saw a recording studio not as a private office for a man of means but as a community center available to all.So he took out loans, collected donations and opened a studio in a tiny basement in Cambridge, Massachusetts.Slowly but steadily, McArthur expanded it and eventually rented a new property to include spaces for practice and production.
Today, The Record Co., with a full time staff of more than 20 people, is a state of the art, 12,000 foot facility that can be rented for as little as $10 per hour. Each month, it receives about 1,000 reservations, and around 3,500 musicians pass through its doors. At The Record Co., the principle is clear: Music should be affordable for everyone, and so should the space for creating it.The building has been shaped not only with an ear to acoustics (音响效果) but also with an eye to ensure it is as welcoming to a musician in a wheelchair as to one who walks in with a guitar over the shoulder.
4.Why did McArthur found The Record Co.
A.To make musicians well known.
B.To make a fortune through music.
C.To persuade people to pursue music.
D.To make music production affordable.
5.What does the author intend to do in Paragraph 3
A.Provide some advice for musicians.
B.Add some background information.
C.Summarize the previous paragraphs.
D.Launch an appeal for musical creation.
6.What does the underlined word “means” in Paragraph 4 mean
A.Wealth. B.Method.
C.Vision. D.Determination.
7.Which of the following is the best title for the text
A.Bring Boston's music to the world
B.Turn music into a full time occupation
C.A recording studio has advanced facilities
D.Music belongs to everyone at The Record Co.

“Do you have Wi Fi?” It's my most asked question when visiting new cities.Nowadays, having access to Wi Fi is essential if you plan on making the most of any trip abroad. But far too often I spend $5 for a tiny cup of coffee just to use a café's Wi Fi and charging port.Replacing this costly exchange with their interpretation of a city center, the designer of Kuube, a Hungarian start up, has created a smart bench equipped with all the necessities that a modern day traveler might need to comfortably move through any city.
Kuube's smart bench comes in three sizes. All come with USB ports, wireless chargers, and a Wi Fi hotspot function — free for everyone. All three smart benches charge up thanks to solar panels, which makes them easily movable.
First comes KuubeECO, the smallest of the three smart benches. It's a three seater that comes equipped with two USB ports and one wireless charger. It has unlimited Internet access thanks to its Wi Fi hotspot. The bench with one display screen continuously monitors its environment, such as changes in UV levels or air pressure — displaying them on its monitor for those interested. Then comes KuubeNANO, the middle child that can seat up to four people and comes with all the same offerings as KuubeECO.And finally comes the largest option, KuubePLUS.This smart bench offers more of a group, or family seating style and can accommodate up to eight people. It offers four charging options and two display screens.
The three smart benches all have an aluminum chassis (铝制底座) that's recyclable and are made from natural ash wood for the seating sections.Kuube is clearly a sustainability focused start up that's combining design and technology to make cities and parks friendlier to everyone.
8.What does the author think of buying coffee to access Wi Fi
A.Expensive. B.Enjoyable.
C.Time consuming. D.Out of date.
9.Which of the following can describe the smart benches
A.They are designed specifically for travelers.
B.They offer limited Internet access for now.
C.They charge little for charging phones.
D.They are eco friendly and mobile.
10.What can KuubeNANO provide
A.Two USB ports. B.Two display screens.
C.Seats for eight people. D.Four wireless chargers.
11.Where is the text most likely taken from
A.A guidebook. B.A magazine.
C.An advertisement. D.A novel.

The cultural products we create reflect the times we live in.“Works of popular culture, we reasoned, should reflect the extent to which nature occupies our collective consciousness (集体意识),” says psychologist Dr Selin Kesebir.“If novelists, songwriters or film makers have fewer encounters with nature these days than before, or if they don't expect their audiences to respond to it, nature would feature less frequently in their works.”
The researchers drew up a list of 186 nature related words belonging to four categories: general words relating to nature such as cloud, or sunrise; names of flowers; names of trees; and birds' names. Then they analyzed how often these occurred in the output of popular culture. They looked at English language fiction, pop songs and film plots, each of which featured thousands of examples.
The results were consistent across books, songs and movies.“The space taken by nature has been decreasing in the collective imagination and cultural conversation since the 1950s.Nature features significantly less in English popular culture today than it did in the first half of the 20th century,” says Dr Kesebir.
Why Some people suggest it's the growth of cities that has fuelled the change.“Urbanization swallows up natural areas and cuts people off from their natural surroundings,” says Dr Kesebir. But, she goes on, the growth rate of cities over the 20th century is gradual, but the data shows a marked change from the 1950s onwards. So it's not just the fact that fewer of us are living in rural areas that explains the decline.
More likely, she believes, we're seeing the impact of technological change leading to more indoor recreational activities.Yes, TV, video games and the Internet are to blame.“These technologies may well have been substituted for nature as a source of joy, recreation and entertainment.”
Books, songs and films shape our culture as well as reflecting it, says Dr Kesebir.“The declining cultural attention to nature means a muting of the message that nature is worth paying attention to and talking about. It also means a loss of opportunities to awaken curiosity, appreciation and awe for nature.”
12.How did the researchers conduct their study of popular culture
A.By having interviews.
B.By doing field research.
C.By analyzing collected data.
D.By referring to previous studies.
13.How did English popular culture change after the 1950s
A.It highlighted fictional stories.
B.It caught the public's imagination.
C.Its nature elements were greatly reduced.
D.Its focus shifted from fiction to conversations.
14.What's largely responsible for the change according to Dr Kesebir
A.Technology. B.The population.
C.City development. D.The environment.
15.What does the underlined word “muting” in the last paragraph probably mean
A.Explanation. B.Silence.
C.Exchange. D.Emphasis.

How to Write a Movie Review
Whether it's for pleasure or a job requirement, writing a good movie review can be a useful exercise.__16__ If you've recently watched a film and want to share your opinions about it, here are some tips to help you compose a wonderful movie review.
Follow your main text with a short plot summary. It's good to give readers an idea of the movie you're reviewing.Give a brief summary of the main characters, the setting and the central conflict of the movie.Never break the number one rule of movie reviews: don't give too much away.__17__
Move into your analysis of the movie.Write several paragraphs discussing the interesting elements in the movie that support your points.Discuss the acting, the direction, the cinematography and the setting, keeping your writing clear and easy to understand.__18__
Use plenty of examples to back up your points. If you make a statement about the movie, back it up with a descriptive example.Describe the way scenes look, the way a certain person acted, camera angles, and so on.__19__ In this way you are giving your readers a feel of the movie and continuing to express your comments on the film at the same time.
__20__ You could treat your review like a formal college essay. But it's more interesting if you make it your own.If your writing style is usually humorous or interesting, your review should be no exception. If you're serious or dramatic, that works, too.Let your language and writing style reflect your unique view and personality — it's much more entertaining for the readers.
A.Give it some personality.
B.Don't ruin the movie for your readers.
C.It is necessary to keep a humorous writing style.
D.You should first watch enough movies on your own.
E.You can use dialogues to help you express your views.
F.So don't use too many technical terms about film making.
G.It allows you to explore your personal connection with a film.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
As a senior editor in a famous press, I always think of days twenty years before when I was 18.I lived with my grandparents, and my parents earned their living in another city, struggling to support our family.I had taken to delivering newspapers to support myself and my education.
I would be up every morning by 5:00 a.m. and walk five kilometres from where I lived to the newspaper office.By 6:00 a.m., I would collect 50 copies which must have weighed over five kilograms. My delivery range spanned (横跨) three kilometres. After distributing the copies, I would rush home — another three kilometres away — cook my breakfast, and be off to my school.
One Friday morning, I got home after my deliveries, finding Afzal, a boy from the neighbourhood, at my doorstep.Afzal said his mother wanted to see me.When I asked him why, Afzal said, “She will tell you.” Tired after walking around for over 11 kilometres, I was looking forward to breakfast and some rest.I assumed his mother wished to subscribe (定期订购) to the newspaper, so I followed him to his home nearby.
A woman in her 40s opened the door.I later learned she was Afzal's mother, Mrs Kader. She asked me to sit, pulled up her chair next to mine and gently asked, “Tell me about your routine, right from the time you wake up in the morning.” I wasn't quite sure why she wanted to know, but I told her about my morning job in a few words. She asked me, “How many miles do you walk every day?” I replied, “A little more than 11 kilometres.” My reply shocked her.
Then she patted my back and went inside, reappearing carrying a large plate full of food for breakfast for me.It was a hearty breakfast, one that brought back memories of happy days spent with my parents.Later, as I was about to leave after thanking them, Mrs Kader asked me to wait and she went inside again.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式作答。
Then Mrs Kader appeared again, with a new bicycle.
I bowed to Mrs Kader gratefully and left for school.

参考范文:
Then Mrs Kader appeared again, with a new bicycle. It was a brand new black bicycle which I had been looking forward to owning someday.“This is for those who are in need. Therefore, it's for you!” she said with a smile, explaining that she was impressed by my spirit of struggling for life whenever she saw my rushing figure.Mrs Kader put her arms around me, gave me a gentle hug and said, “My boy, you deserve it.” Hearing that, I was shocked and more than appreciative for her generosity and kindness.I didn't even realize that my eyes had welled up.
I bowed to Mrs Kader gratefully and left for school. This time I did not have to walk or run in a rush every day — I had the bicycle, which really made my life much easier afterwards. With the incredible bicycle, I could deliver my papers more effectively, thus having more time left for my studies.Even after many years, I still kept this bike in good condition. It witnessed my journey to my new life, and more significantly, it reminded me of a kind hearted gesture from a stranger.
