1.He did a double take.
2.He noticed that the saucer was an antique and very valuable, so he walked casually into the store and innocently offered to buy the cat for 20 dollars.
3.A middle aged man was feeling very down.

①I will double the amount of work I do today. ________________
②She got a double portion of dessert.
③I feel really down today. ________________
④He sat down quietly. ________________
I hear there's an amazing clown who'll really make you laugh. His name's Grock.
赏析:此处who引导定语从句,修饰先行词clown; make you laugh为 make sb.do sth.
The girl ___________________________________________________________.?
Watson thought for a minute.“Well, according to the studies on astronomy, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets.According to the positions of the stars, I observe that Saturn is in Leo.According to the scientific measurement of time, I deduce that the time is probably a quarter past three.According to the current atmosphere, I forecast that we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. What does it tell you, Holmes?”

There exist cruel wars, fighting and sadness in the world today, so it's not only necessary but also essential to have a good sense of humour just to help us get through difficult times in our lives.Putting a smile on someone's face when you know they are feeling depressed makes them feel good and warms their heart.
How will you feel friend, or even just someone that you are standing in line with at the corner store?I am always saying things that make others smile or laugh, .My grandma always found humour in everything she did, even if it was the hardest job anyone could imagine. This not only relieves stress in any situation, but also is a common manner of speaking to others that are around you.
I know of a few people that don't have a funny bone in their bodies, .Everyone around them could be rolling on the floor after hearing a great joke but they would sit there without the slightest smile on their faces. They don't get the joke that makes others laugh.I am busting a gut while they just sit there, looking at me .How can people not get a really funny joke
Laughing is essential to keep our stress levels under control.Without humour, we would find ourselves with a lot of psychological problems, or on medication to keep ourselves from going crazy. There is too much sadness, .
Therefore, I believe the best medicine is to get together, tell some jokes and have some fun together.

You probably laugh at something you find funny, but how much do you really know about jokes and humour?Reader's Digest (RD) questioned several experts to give us some facts about them.
RD: What's the oldest joke in the world
“We can't know the oldest joke in the world because it would have existed earlier than writing,”says Christie Davies, professor of sociology at the University of Reading in the UK.The oldest joke book that's been found so far is the Greek Philogelos. It dates from the 19th century AD, although the jokes date from an earlier time.According to the psychologist Steve Wilson, director of National Humour Month (April in the US), it contains 265 jokes.
RD: Do some people fail to develop a sense of humour
Rod Martin, professor of psychology at the Western University in Canada, believes that while everyone is born without a sense of humour, as we develop, humour and laughter begin to appear.“Of course, some children are more serious, quiet and less likely to laugh frequently, but this doesn't mean they don't have a sense of humour.” And according to Steve Wilson, there are no adults who don't have a sense of humour.“Almost everyone is able to develop a sense of humour, and I teach people how,” he says.
RD: Do people share a sense of humour unique to their own nation

When he heard about the talent show to be held at his school, Brian decided to take part in. He had never acted on stage before, and he was very excited. But some students laughed at him.“You are not funny but silly,” Ken, one of his classmates, said to his face.“No one will like what you do,” another boy also said to him, loudly.
Brian couldn't understand why they were so unkind to him. For a moment, he thought about giving up the show. But he remembered how much his friends liked his jokes, and also his teachers said he was very funny. So he decided to prepare for the show.
Brian did a great job at the talent show. Everyone loved his performance, and he won the first prize! His teachers and friends were proud of him. Ⅱ.
What's your feeling if your friend recommends a comedy class to you, implying that you lack a sense of humor I would feel depressed. 9
Yet according to Jennifer Aaker and Naomi Bagdonas, humor is not something you are born with or without. 10 What's more, finding our funny sides makes us appear more competent and confident, strengthens relationships, unlocks creativity, and makes us more likable. It helps in any life situation. 11
I turned to Aaker and Bagdonas and they agreed to teach me how to find my funny bones. In our first call, we discuss the common misconceptions that stop many of us in our comedy tracks. The first, Aaker says, is the belief that humor has no place in certain situations, especially at work. 12 But 98% of the top executives say they prefer employees with a sense of humor and 84%of bosses believe those employees do better work.
They are so convinced of the power of humor that they also advocate its ability to help people avoid difficult situations. 13 Research shows that people who watch a funny video before trying to solve a puzzle are twice as likely to be successful and when we do make mistakes, learning to laugh at them can have a positive impact on our psychology. It takes off the pressure and if you show colleagues that you aren't afraid to laugh at your own mistakes, they'll feel safer owning up to theirs.
A.Rather, it can be developed gradually.
B.We worry about not being taken seriously.
C.Humor has been proved to increase creativity.
D.Some people just aren't funny and I'm one of them.
E.This explains why people eagerly sign up for the humor course.
F.Every joke follows the fundamental structure of setup and punchline.
G.If you feel uncomfortable making the jokes, leave them to someone else.
UNIT 4 课时检测(二) “What's So Funny”的课文习读环节
