(2025湖北黄冈十五校期中联考)
In Richmond, in the southwest of London, Lola Anderson began her rowing journey at the famous Surbiton High School. At the age of 14, she was moved by the victory of Heather Stanning and Helen Glover in the women's pair at the 2012 London Olympics. Inspired, she penned in her diary with a pink highlighter: “My name is Lola Anderson, and my biggest dream is to compete in the rowing event of the Olympics, and if possible, win a gold.”
After completing her English studies at Newcastle University, she won a gold medal in the quadruple sculls(四人双桨赛艇比赛) at the World Rowing Championships in 2023, followed by another victory at the European Rowing Championships in 2024. In July, alongside Georgie Brayshaw, Hannah Scott, and Lauren Henry, she rowed to victory in the 2024 Paris Olympic final.
In the competition, a mere 0.15 second separated her team from the Dutch team at the finish line in Paris. They had been leading Anderson throughout the race until that last moment. Gasping for breath and nearly in shock, she was then overwhelmed by a surge of emotion. Her teammate, Hannah Scott, leaned forward to hug her from behind, saying, “Your father would have been so proud of what you've achieved.” It was then that Anderson began to cry, unable to stop. Her father, Don, had passed away five years before from cancer, but he had always been her strong supporter.
Unknown to her, her father kept the diary note and returned it to her seven years later, just two months before he passed away. He told her it served as a reminder that even when you doubt yourself, your loved ones will always have faith in you. His words encouraged her through difficulties in the years that followed.
That treasured piece of paper, as an important reminder, now lies in a tin box in her bedroom, alongside a couple of her rowing medals. “The tin is one of the first things I see when I wake up at 6 am. I know my father would be so proud of what I've achieved,” she said.

(2024河南洛阳强基联盟联考)
A small study out of Skidmore College examined the advantages of morning exercise vs evening exercise for both women and men. Paul, professor of health at Skidmore College, led the study.
“We had the groups divided into evening and morning groups,” he says. “We found women and men answered differently to different types of exercise, depending on the time of the day, which surprised us.”
The study showed that for women who want to lower blood pressure(血压) and the risk of heart disease or reduce fat, morning exercise works best. Those women hoping for upper body muscle gains or mood(心情) improvement should consider evening exercise. For men, the findings were somewhat different: Evening exercise lowers blood pressure, the risk of heart disease and feelings of tiredness. But similar to women, they burn more fat with morning exercise.
“For many people, the best time to exercise will depend on their chronotype,” says Heisz, author of Move the Body, Heal the Mind.
“The chronotype is your body's natural habit to sleep at a certain time—it's what decides whether you're a night owl or an early bird. For the 25% of the population that consider themselves a night owl, getting both enough sleep and enough exercise can be difficult,” adds Heisz.
He continues, “Sleep—which provides your body with the necessary time to recover(恢复) and make gains from exercise—should always be the first choice. When it comes to exercise, regardless of research on the benefits of certain exercises at particular times of the day, your results will not be good if it doesn't allow enough time for sleep.”
5.What can women get by doing evening exercise according to the study
A.Fat loss. B.A good mood.
C.Lower blood pressure. D.A smaller risk of heart disease.
6.What does the author intend to do in Paragraph 5
A.Give an example. B.Tell the difference.
C.Explain a term. D.Do an experiment.
7.What does Heisz think is important to achieve good results of exercise
A.Enough sleep. B.Low-fat food.
C.Plenty of water. D.Lots of exercise.
8.What is the best title for the text
A.A Night Owl or an Early Bird
B.Why a Fitness Plan Is Important
C.How to Change Your Exercise Time
D.The Best Time of a Day to Exercise
