W: Are you sure You’re always leaving things behind at the office.
M: I’m certain I carried it in my hands when I came home. There it is on the sofa.
Text 2
W: I like the names Scott and Michael.
M: I don’t think our boy should be named Scott. That is our dog’s name. How does Robert sound
Text 3
M: Mary, I really want to apologize for what I said to you the other day.
W: Oh, forget it.
Text 4
W: Their wedding was absolutely beautiful.
M: It really was. I want a big wedding like that. But I think it might have cost them a lot of money.
W: I’d rather have a small and memorable wedding in that case.
Text 5
M: Have you ever lived abroad, Amelia
W: Yes. I spent some time in America when I was about 8.
M: Really How come
W: My dad’s company sent him to go abroad. Originally it was supposed to be for six months, but it ended up lasting for a year.
Text 6
M: Thank goodness, it’s Friday. I’m so tired. We had exams all week.
W: Yeah, I’m tired, too. Luckily we’ve finished all the exams. We can relax during the summer holiday.
M: Yeah. And I also took my driver’s test today.
W: Finally! How did you do Did you pass it
M: Though the test was really difficult to me, I passed anyway.
W: You did Congratulations!
M: Thanks.
W: Well, do you have any plans for the summer holiday I want to go sightseeing.
M: Well, I want to volunteer in the hospital. And I think it is meaningful to do the volunteer work.
Text 7
M: Um, hi, I think I have an appointment with Dr Stanton.
W: OK…Ted Williams, right Is it the two o’clock appointment
M: That’s right. This is my first time here, so…
W: Yes, I just need to get some information for our files.
M: OK.
W: What’s your address, please
M: Oh, it’s 2658A Bell Street.
W: All right. And your phone number
M: It’s 5559008.
W: OK. I need your date of birth and health insurance number.

W: 88564802. OK, and what seems to be the problem

M: I can’t make up my mind which bike to buy, Tracy. Can you give me some advice
W: Personally I like that green one, but I think you prefer the black one, like the one I’m now using.
M: You’re right. I like it very much. It’s fashionable. But the brown one is beautiful, too.
W: Yes, but it’s more expensive. You have to make up your own mind.
M: Every bike here is nice. I don’t really know what to do. Buying a new bike here in Holland is almost as difficult as buying a car back in the United States.
W: But there are even more choices. Would you like to try another shopping centre There are a number of stores selling bikes there.
M: Why not But let’s have some coffee before we go. I hope it will help me to make the decision.
Text 9
W: How can I earn some extra money this summer
M: Why don’t we start a lemonade stand, Laura
W: That’s a great idea, William. But do you think we can make any money
M: If we set up in an area with a lot of traffic on a hot day, we will get plenty of customers. We can charge $1.5 per cup because we need to cover our costs.
W: OK. What do we need to get started
M: We need the ingredients, including lemons, sugar and water. We also need something to keep our money in, a sign to advertise the lemonade, paper cups and a cardboard box to use as a stand.
W: Yeah. And we should have a permit and a cooler.
M: OK, let’s get set up and think of a plan to get some customers and make some sales!
W: Why don’t I attract the customers and you make the lemonade Oh, and we can ask Nina to serve the customers.
M: Sounds good to me.
Text 10
M: Most people may have experienced some of the best moments in their life. Do you know the best thing that ever happened to me It was when I lost my last job. Yes, really! You may be surprised and find it difficult to understand, but it is really true. I never liked being stuck in an office all day with computers and a telephone. Now my hobby is my full-time job. I start work very early, er…in summer I usually leave home at about 5:30 in the morning, but in winter not until about 8:00. I have a small truck, and I carry all my tools in that. It’s autumn now so I’m cleaning up the gardens—I’m picking up leaves and pulling up old summer flowers. Oh, and I’m planting small trees too. At weekends, my wife and I often drive to the country and explore fun things. I’m interested in collecting old radios and she likes to collect old cookery books. I don’t earn much, but enough for my hobby. I’m a very happy man.

第一节
One possible version:
Family cycling trip
Aimed at enriching our daily life and building up our body, a 5-kilometre-long family cycling trip was launched by my parents.
As scheduled, we set out at 8:00 am from our home to the park. We saw many beautiful sights along the way. It was a still, sweet day of early summer; the leaves seemed greener, the flowers brighter, and the birds merrier. Although all of us were extremely tired, we were very happy.
The activity was highly spoken of, because not only did it provide a chance for us to exercise but also made us become a more united family.
One possible version:
After the first lap, he was near the back, and his legs ached. Still, he forced himself to go faster. Kevin Beadle, of course, was far ahead of all the other runners. After the third lap, Jake was around the middle of the pack. His side was starting to hurt and his breath burned in his lungs, but he would not let himself slow down. Whatever happened (让步状语从句), it was up to him, not the trainers. The fourth lap was the hardest yet, Jake’s whole body ached, not merely his legs. Just when Jake thought he couldn’t run another step (时间状语从句;宾语从句), he spotted Anna in the crowd. Anna shouted to him, “Come on, Jake! You can do it!”
That gave Jake an extra burst of energy. Jake went to great lengths to push on. At last Jake crossed the finishing line. He was the tenth—much better than he had expected! He bent over and tried to catch his breath. He was exhausted, but he felt pleased with himself as well. Anna rushed over and gave Jake a great big hug, “You are great!” He looked over at the winner, Kevin Beadle, who was standing with a group of admirers (定语从句). But Jake didn’t even care anymore. He knew that Beadle had not really won at all (宾语从句). The trainers had won for him.单元素养测评卷(二)

A 32-year-old Australian runner has set a new world record for continuous daily marathons as a woman.
Erchana Murray-Bartlett set out from Cape York, the tip of Australia, in August 2022. She then ran a marathon every day for 150 days—a 3,900-mile journey that ended in Melbourne on Monday, January 16, 2023.
By running the entire north-south distance of Australia, Murray-Bartlett beat the record held by British runner Kate Jayden, who ran a marathon for 106 continuous days last year. In addition to the new Guinness World Record, Murray-Bartlett was running to raise funds for a conservation charity, the Wilderness Society. She raised $70,000 during her journey across Australia.
“Yesterday was everything,” she said. “When I stood on the start line on August 20, I could never have imagined what the next 22 weeks would bring…and I can’t put into words how good crossing that finish line felt, and to be honest, I think I’ll be processing for a few weeks, months, and even years to come.”
Murray-Bartlett has been running professionally for many years. When she missed out on qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she decided on a new goal: running the length of Australia and setting a new female record for continuous marathons.
To state the obvious: it wasn’t always easy. Murray-Bartlett experienced three injuries during the first three weeks of the journey. But she didn’t give up, and her body adapted as she ran along her country’s coasts, rainforests, dirt roads and highways. She ran through heavy rain and intense heat.
The journey also served to raise awareness of Australia’s extinction (灭绝) crisis. Many of the island nation’s plants and animals are found nowhere else—yet 500 of them are threatened with extinction. Throughout the trip, Murray-Bartlett highlighted her country’s biodiversity on social media. When she finally crossed the finish line on Monday evening, she learned she’d raised nearly double her fundraising (募捐) goal.

Did your mother ever say you’ll feel better after a good cry It turns out Mum is right as usual crying is really healthy. What’s more, letting yourself feel blue and accepting those feelings will help you feel better in the long run, according to new research.
In three separate studies both online and in a lab, researchers at UC Berkeley evaluated the responses from 1,300 adults regarding their psychological (心理的) health and emotional well-being (幸福感). In one study, 1,000 participants filled out a survey evaluating how they felt about the statement, “I tell myself I shouldn’t be feeling the way that I’m feeling.” Those who agreed with the statement scored lower on tests of well-being. In other words, letting yourself feel bad is better for your mind and mood than trying to control negative thoughts.
“We found that people who habitually accept their negative emotions experience fewer negative emotions, which add to better psychological health,” said study senior author Iris Mauss, PhD, an associate professor of psychology at UC Berkeley in an article on the university’s website.
In a society where the importance to be happy is emphasized daily on the other social media platforms, letting yourself be down in the dumps can be tough. Just remember that true happiness isn’t always what people say it is.
“It turns out that how we approach our own negative emotional reactions is really important for our well-being,” said study lead author Brett Ford, PhD, an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Toronto. “People who accept these emotions without judging or trying to change them are able to deal with their stress more successfully.”
So next time someone tells you to “turn that frown upside down”, ignore them. Embrace your inner feelings for a while.
( )28.How did the researchers carry out one of the studies
A.They gave the participants different tests.

A.Be lonely. B.Be depressed.
C.Be positive. D.Be comfortable.
( )30.What did Brett Ford try to show in Paragraph 5
A.It is better for people to accept negative emotions.
B.We should never try to change others’ thoughts.
C.People who accept themselves are happier.
D.Positive people tend to be less stressed.
( )31.What would be the best title for the text
A.Turn your frown upside down
B.Crying is good for our health
C.Stop having bad feelings
D.Stop feeling the way that you’re feeling

More educators and researchers are bringing attention to misinformation (错误信息) through the Internet and social media. Teaching media literacy (媒体素养) can be a problem. Those against teaching Internet literacy say it’s the same as thought control, which prevents some teachers from using it in class.
Erin, a mother from Massachusetts who has worked as a reporter, said that media literacy is a skill as important as computer engineering for the economy. She created a non-profit group called Media Literacy Now to support digital literacy education. “Basic communication is part of our information economy, and there will be huge implications for our economy if we don’t get this right,” she said.
Shawn Lee, who teaches social studies in Seattle, Washington, has taught about double-checking online reports, getting information from more than a few places and using critical (批评的) thinking. He also created an organization for teachers to share experience.
Teaching Internet literacy to fight misinformation may be more effective than new laws. Some US states have added new standards for teaching Internet literacy. Subjects can include how the Internet and social media work and how to find misinformation by looking at many sources. Other ways of identifying misinformation might include looking for missing background information or recognizing emotional headlines.
Media and Internet literacy is taught around the world. Finland and Canada have developed programmes over the years to teach young people about the media. The goal is to get young people to understand what in the news and on the Internet is a fact, and what isn’t.
Media and Internet literacy is often compared to drivers’ education. “We need speed limits, and we need well designed roads and good regulations to ensure cars are safe. But we also teach people how to drive safely,” director of education Johnson said.
This combination of government, industry and educators is considered the model that is needed for Internet and media literacy. Education is needed for an effective answer to fight Internet misinformation.
( )32.What’s the view of people against teaching Internet literacy
A.It needs laws to prove its effect.
B.It adds to teachers’ heavy work.
C.It’s like controlling people’s thought.
D.It may face strong criticism of parents.
( )33.What has Shawn done to support Internet literacy
A.He’s created Media Literacy Now.
B.He’s taught students critical thinking.
C.He’s invented online double-check.
D.He’s asked teachers to share experience.
( )34.What is the fourth paragraph mainly about
A.What’s been done about online literacy.
B.What effect online literacy has on us.
C.How we can stop misinformation online.
D.How we could beat online misinformation.
( )35.What does Johnson think about teaching Internet literacy
A.People should learn about safe surfing.
B.It should be covered in drivers’ education.
C.It calls for the efforts of online education.
D.Finland and Canada have experience in this.

It was almost time for the big race. There were people everywhere, and there was a buzz of excitement in the air. Proud Mums and Dads were picking out the best places to watch the race. Runners were warming up, pinning their numbers onto their vests, taking last-minute advice. It wasn’t hard to spot Kevin Beadle—he was the one with the smug (自鸣得意的) look on his face. Jake could see why—Beadle was wearing the trainers which originally belonged to Jake.
For a second, Jake felt a sharp stab of jealousy (嫉妒,羡慕). Beadle was bound to win easily with those trainers. Anna, his best friend, came and said, “Jake, why don’t you get changed right away ” Then he remembered his own kit (全套衣服及装备). It was almost time for the race to begin! With so much going on, he had forgotten to get changed.
“I’ll be back in a minute,” Jake exclaimed. After he had changed, Jake was only just in time for the start of the race. The race organizer called the runners to the starting line.
Jake could see Kevin Beadle in the middle of the pack. A smirk played on the tall boy’s face. Jake told himself to ignore it.
The whistle blew and the race began. Five laps (跑道等的一圈) of the school playing fields. Right away, Kevin Beadle sprinted to the front of the pack. The trainers were doing their stuff.
But Jake told himself just to concentrate on his own running. It was tough—he had spent so long running in the amazing trainers that real running was hard work.
注意:续写词数应为 150个左右。
Paragraph 1:
After the first lap, he was near the back, and his legs ached.

Paragraph 2:
That gave Jake an extra burst of energy.
