Mark Levine is from the US. He has been living in Beijing for 18 years.
Before coming to China, he heard that the country has 56 ethnic groups. But like many Americans,
he didn’t quite get what it meant. “In the United States, people often don’t understand the concept of
China as a multi-ethnic country,” Levine said.
Now Levine teaches English at Minzu University of China. In his class, he sees students from so
many ethnic groups, such as Han, Tibetan, Uygur, Miao, Tujia, Bouyei, Zhuang and so on. As Levine
sees in his classes, they study together. After class, they play, eat, and shop together. It’s different
from what he sees in Western media. “What I see is a commonality (共性) and common interests (共

Dogs really are man’s best friends. A new study said that dogs can use their smell to tell if a
human is feeling stressed (有压力的).
They can smell the difference in people’s breath (呼吸) and sweat (汗液). Then they can tell if
people are stressed or not. They could be 93.75 percent right! A study by scientists at Queen’s
University Belfast, UK, said.
The scientists studied the participants’ breath and sweat both before and after doing a hard math
problem. In the study, they looked at the people’s heart rate (心率), blood pressure (血压) and stress
level.
The dogs found stress in 675 of the 720 people, or 93.75 percent of the time, reported the
Australian news site Kids News.

Stress changes people's breath and sweat. Dogs can smell that change, said the study's author
Clara Wilson. In the study, she also said this finding helps us understand how dogs may know
humans' thoughts and feelings.

What do black holes look like Human beings have wanted to find out for a long time. In 2019,
we finally got the answer: They look like dark circles with a bright ring around the outside.
Scientists took the world’s first photo of a black hole. Scientists didn’t use a camera to take the
picture. They used eight radio telescopes (射电望远镜) in different places around the world. The
telescopes got signals (信号) from the black hole. Scientists used computers to process (处理) the
signals. It took them two years to get the final picture.
The black hole is very far from Earth – about 55 million light-years away. One light-year is
the distance that light travels in one year. One light-year is about 9 trillion kilometers.
This is not the only black hole in the universe (宇 宙 ). Actually, scientists believe every
large galaxy (星系) has a big black hole at its center. The one in our galaxy is called Sagittarius A.
Black holes are some of the most mysterious things in the universe. This photo can help us learn
