Respect them
5 When they are talking, you listen and do not interrupt (打断) them. If you have done wrong, apologize and avoid repeating the same mistake again. According to Hong Kong police, a worker at a multinational (跨国的) company was tricked into paying out $25 million to the other party during a video call. Chan Shunching, a police officer, said, “In the multi-person video call, it turns out that everyone he saw was fake (假的).”
Chan explained that the worker began to doubt himself after receiving a message claiming to be the UK head of the company. However, he put aside his early doubts after the video call because other people who attended looked like workmates he knew.
In recent years, many criminals (罪犯) have used AI technology such as “AI face-swapping” to carry out new online fraud (网络诈骗), which often causes greater losses to people in a short time. So how do we prevent it
Experts say during a video call, we can have the other members wave their hands in front of their faces. The action can influence the artificial facial data (面部数据), causing the fake image to shake. In addition, in conversation, we can ask questions that only the real person would be able to answer to make sure that the person we’re speaking with is real. So for those we don’t know well, especially those who claim to be our leaders or friends, we should check if they are real people without hesitation.
Yuneng Hai, a leading figure in the field, also recommends another method: get them to press their noses or cheeks. “When a real person does this, his nose will naturally change shape,” he says. “An AI-made face, on the other hand, won’t show this.”
34.How does the author start the passage
A. By listing numbers. B. By providing a case.
C. By asking questions. D. By explaining reasons.
35.Why did the worker put aside his doubts after the video call
A. His “workmates” in the call were so real.
B. He communicated well with “other workmates”.
C. He didn’t want to get himself in trouble.
D. The call looked and sounded great.
36.What does the underlined phrase “without hesitation” probably mean
A. On time. B. At once. C. In detail. D. In public.
37.What can be the best title for the passage
A. Be careful when making video calls!
B. AI—the worst technology
C. The influence of artificial facial data.
D. Some facts about online fraud.

China has good news for families with young children. Nowadays, many families feel stressed to raise young children, as costs for daily needs and early education are increasing.
So starting in January 2025, the government will put a new official rule into practice to support parents. This plan means families with babies and toddlers—children aged between one and three—will get money from the government. The national plan is made to give parents more support to raise children.
So who can get this money Every family in the country that has a child under three years old can get this financial help. For each young child, the family will receive 3,600 yuan every year, which is about 300 yuan per month—enough to ease some of the monthly cost. They will keep getting this money until the child is three. It doesn’t matter if the child is the first, second or third one in the family—all are included, showing fair support for every family.
Before this rule became national, some cities like Shanghai and Chengdu tried it first, and it was very successful. Parents in those cities praised the plan, saying it really helped them manage daily expenses. This money is a big help, especially since raising a child costs a lot. Parents can use it to buy food, clothes and toys for their kids. Maybe they can even spend a little on fun activities like visiting a children’s museum.
Getting the money is easy too. Parents don’t need to deal with lots of complicated papers. They can just apply online through a government app or website. After applying, the review process is quick—most families get a reply within a week. The government hopes this plan will let every young child grow up happily in a warm and supportive environment.
38.What does the underlined word “ease” in Paragraph 3 probably mean
A. make something less B. take care of
C. stop remembering D. look forward to
39.If a family has two children under three years old, how much money can they get every year
A. 3,600yuan. B. 300yuan. C. 7,200yuan. D. 10,800yuan.
40.We can know from the passage that ________.
A. only families with one child can get the help
B. raising children in China is not expensive
C. the plan was tested in some cities before
D. parents need to fill in many papers to apply
41.What is the main idea of the passage
A. How to ask for the Chinese government’s help.
B. A new plan to support families with young kids.
C. The cost of raising young children in China now.
D. The life of young children in China nowadays.

①Think back to the last time you got high praise from someone else. Praise from friends, colleagues (同事), and loved ones can be really nice to hear. And—for that matter—it can feel good to praise someone else as well. Yet, most people don’t do that as often as they should.
②In one study, pairs of people walking together in a public park were stopped. Most of the pairs knew each other for almost 10 years. One of them was asked to write out three sentences to praise the other person. And the writer predicted (预测) how nice the other person would feel after receiving the praise. Then, the receiver read the praise and rated (评价) how good and how embarrassed (尴尬的) they felt, and how warm the praise was.
③From the study, researchers found that the participants (参与者) in the study underestimated (低估) how good and warm the praise would make the receivers feel. And another finding is that the participants overestimated (高估) how embarrassed the receivers would feel. Besides, they found that the participants who paid attention to the warmth of the praise were more willing to praise others.
④Putting these findings together, people miss a lot of chances to make people feel good, because they don’t give the praise they think of. A big reason why they don’t give praise to others is because they underestimate how good the praise will make the other person feel.
⑤So, if you have a chance to praise someone else in your life, you should probably do it.
42.Which is the right order according to the study in the passage a. read praise b. wrote praise c. predicted praise d. rated praise
A. b-a-c-d B. b-a-d-c C. b-c-a-d D. b-c-d-a

44.The structure of the passage is ________.
A. B. C. D.

A. advise us to praise others B. explain why to praise others

46.Everyone is born with the ability to learn. But whether or not you can do this well depends on your learning habits. Research shows that successful learners have some good habits in common.
Creating an interest in what they learn
Studies show that if you are interested in something, your brain is more active and it is also easier for you to pay attention to it for a long time. Good learners often connect what they need to learn with something interesting. For example, if they need to learn English and they like music or sports, they can listen to English songs or watch sports programs in English. This way they will not get bored.
Practicing and learning from mistakes
Good learners think about what they are good at and what they need to practice more. Remember, “Use it or lose it!” Even if you learn something well, you will forget it unless you use it. “Practice makes perfect.” Good learners will keep practicing what they have learned, and they are not afraid of making mistakes. Alexander Graham Bell did not invent the telephone overnight. He succeeded by trying many times and learning from his mistakes.
Developing their study skills
It is not enough to just study hard. Good learners know the best ways they can study. For example, they may take notes by writing down key words. They also look for ways to go over what they have learned. They may do this by reading their notes every day or by explaining the information to another student.
Asking questions
Good learners often ask questions during or after class. They even ask each other and try to find out the answers. Knowledge comes from questioning.
Learning is a lifelong journey because every day brings something new. Everything that you learn becomes a part of you and changes you, so learn wisely and learn well.

49.【答案】My new friend
Time flies, and we are already in Grade 9. In this busy study life, I have made some new friends. One of them is Andy. He is a confident person. For example, he always volunteers to answer questions in class. He is also very organized; for instance, he keeps his notes tidy and plans his study time carefully.
Andy’s favorite colors are blue and green. He likes blue because it makes him feel calm and peaceful. Green is his favorite because it represents hope and nature.
His motto is, “If I never give up, I can do anything.” This saying helps him stay positive.
But sometimes he finds it hard to make quick decisions, and his parents focus too much on his grades, which makes him feel stressed.
I suggest he make simple plans before deciding things. Also, he could talk to his parents about his feelings, so they understand that progress is more important than just scores.
I hope these ideas can help him. Andy is a great friend, and I’m glad to know him.
