Ⅰ.阅读理解
Billions of people around the world, including nearly 60% of Americans, Australians and Europeans, participate in sports.
Lack of physical activity is estimated to cause more than 5 million early deaths a year.To reduce the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, cancers and a number of other diseases, the World Health Organisation(WHO) recommends adults and older people engage in physical activity for at least 150 minutes a week.Adults participating in a high overall level of sports and exercise are at 34% lower risk of death than those who never or rarely engage in such activities.
But does it make a difference which physical activities we do?
To strengthen the evidence on health benefits of six common sport disciplines — aerobics (有氧运动), cycling, football, racquet (球拍) sports, running and swimming — we recently analysed data from 80,306 British adults. The study found 27%, 15%, 47% and 28% reduced risk of death for participants in aerobics, cycling, racquet sports and swimming.
Although we observed reductions in the risk of death associated with football and running (18% and 13%) in our study sample, the data did not allow us to draw conclusions about these effects across the whole population. These associations should not be misunderstood as “no association” or “evidence of no effect”.We simply do not know whether the observed effects in the sample occurred by chance alone or reflect the true effects in the population.
It may take decades until we reach definite conclusions about health outcomes of all types of sport.Should you in the meantime sit in front of the TV and wait for researchers to announce the final results? No.Follow your preferences and select an affordable and easily accessible sporting activity you enjoy doing, while trying to reduce the risk of injury.

A.Football and running had no effect.
B.Running is the best form of exercise.
C.Racquet sports are the most effective.
D.Aerobics is more popular than running.
3.What does the author advise us to do in the end?
A.Participate in racquet sports.
B.Choose whatever sport you like.
C.Participate in running and swimming.

(2024·郑州高一上学期期末考试)At some point or another, every student brings home a poor grade on an assignment or a test. It is understandably difficult to see your student struggling and feeling badly about school, but here are several things you can do to help your child:
Be supportive, not angry. 5 When a bad grade comes home, resist the urge to shout or punish him or her. It’s understandable that you may feel concerned or angry, but your child probably feels as bad as you do.
6 Has your child had problems with this particular subject or skill in the past, or is this a new issue? Talk with your child about what went wrong on the assignment or test. Does he or she understand what mistakes were made and how to correct them?
Look for signs elsewhere. 7 Consistent (一贯的) low grades and test scores, however, are worth investigating further. How is your child during study and homework sessions? Does he or she take far more time than seems reasonable to complete work? Do tests seem to make your child anxious?
Remind your child that failure is a part of life. Tell him or her that making mistakes is how we learn. 8 Let him or her know that you do not expect perfection, and that this is an opportunity to strive for improvement.
Focus on the future. 9 Instead, figure out the best way for your child to overcome any difficulties in order to earn a better grade next time. Be sure to involve your child when developing that plan of action.
A.Nothing is impossible.
B.Know what your child really needs.
C.Occasional bad grades happen to all students.
D.Share a story about your struggle and frustration.
E.Try not to think too much about a poor grade or test score.
F.Determine whether it’s a one-time problem or a deeper issue.
G.Let your child know that you’re there and you want to help him or her.

The Final Sprint It was the final sprint of the Santa Barbara XV Grand Prix cyclo-cross race in Spain.①Fans lined the road to the finishing line, cheering on the competitors. Ismael Esteban,in third place, was just ahead of his competitor,Agustin Navarro, with only 300 metres to the finishing line.②Esteban had been cycling as hard as he could for hours and with the finishing line in sight all the cyclists began to speed up to cross it.Then, suddenly Esteban got a puncture. What should he do?Give up or continue?Esteban threw his bike over his shoulders and raced towards the finishing line. Just a few seconds later,fourth-placed Navarro caught up with him.Surely,he could simply overtake Esteban and come third. But Navarro slowed down and let Esteban run ahead of him.The two cyclists reached the finishing line with Esteban ahead on foot,Navarro just behind him.Navarro had let Esteban finish in third place, while he came fourth. The audience was amazed at his show of sportsmanship and cheered and clapped. After the race,Navarro said,“I didn’t want to win that way.”Later,Esteban, who won the bronze medal, tried to give his medal to Navarro. However,Navarro refused, and his response was:“③Offering me the prize was worth more than what I did for him.” The two cyclists made amazing sporting gestures — Navarro for refusing to take advantage of Esteban’s troubles, and Esteban for offering Navarro his medal. This was sportsmanship at its very best. Then,Just a few seconds later,After the race 转折词:But,However 写作手法: 1.文中一系列动作描写,如:threw ... and raced towards ...; slowed down ...; tried to give ...; ...refused等使记叙过程详细准确。 2.文中运用了语言描写,如Navarro said,“I didn’t want to win that way.”; his response was:“Offering me the prize was worth more than what I did for him.”等体现了人物的心理和优秀品质。 【学结构】 第一部分:交代故事发生的背景、人物和地点等; 第二部分:故事的发展、高潮和结局; 第三部分:作者的感想和评论。

Step 1 品教材课文
The Final Sprint
It was the final sprint of the Santa Barbara XV Grand Prix cyclo-cross race
in Spain.①Fans lined the road to the finishing line, cheering on the
competitors.
Ismael Esteban,in third place, was just ahead of his competitor,
Agustin Navarro, with only 300 metres to the finishing line.②Esteban
had been cycling as hard as he could for hours and with the finishing line
in sight all the cyclists began to speed up to cross it.Then, suddenly
Esteban got a puncture. What should he do?Give up or continue?Esteban
threw his bike over his shoulders and raced towards the finishing line.
Just a few seconds later,fourth-placed Navarro caught up with
him.Surely,he could simply overtake Esteban and come third. But
Navarro slowed down and let Esteban run ahead of him.The two cyclists
reached the finishing line with Esteban ahead on foot,Navarro just behind
him.Navarro had let Esteban finish in third place, while he came
fourth. The audience was amazed at his show of sportsmanship and cheered
and clapped. After the race,Navarro said,“I didn’t want to win that
way.”Later,Esteban, who won the bronze medal, tried to give his
medal to Navarro. However,Navarro refused, and his response was:
“③Offering me the prize was worth more than what I did for him.”
The two cyclists made amazing sporting gestures — Navarro for refusing to take advantage of Esteban’s troubles, and Esteban for offering
Navarro his medal. This was sportsmanship at its very best.

Ⅰ.阅读理解
Billions of people around the world, including nearly 60% of
Americans, Australians and Europeans, participate in sports.
Lack of physical activity is estimated to cause more than 5 million
early deaths a year.To reduce the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes,
cancers and a number of other diseases, the World Health Organisation
(WHO) recommends adults and older people engage in physical activity
for at least 150 minutes a week.Adults participating in a high overall level
of sports and exercise are at 34% lower risk of death than those who never
or rarely engage in such activities.
But does it make a difference which physical activities we do?
To strengthen the evidence on health benefits of six common sport
disciplines — aerobics (有氧运动), cycling, football, racquet
(球拍) sports, running and swimming — we recently analysed data
from 80,306 British adults.The study found 27%, 15%, 47% and 28%
reduced risk of death for participants in aerobics, cycling, racquet
sports and swimming.a
Although we observed reductions in the risk of death associated with
football and running (18% and 13%) in our study sample, the data did
not allow us to draw conclusions about these effects across the whole
population. These associations should not be misunderstood as “no
association” or “evidence of no effect”.We simply do not know whether the
observed effects in the sample occurred by chance alone or reflect the true
effects in the population.
It may take decades until we reach definite conclusions about health
outcomes of all types of sport.Should you in the meantime sit in front of
the TV and wait for researchers to announce the final results? No.Follow
your preferences and select an affordable and easily accessible sporting
activity you enjoy doing, while trying to reduce the risk of injury.

every student brings home a poor grade on an assignment or a test. It is
understandably difficult to see your student struggling and feeling badly
about school, but here are several things you can do to help your child:
Be supportive, not angry. 5 When a bad grade comes home,
resist the urge to shout or punish him or her. It’s understandable that you
may feel concerned or angry, but your child probably feels as bad as you
do.
6 Has your child had problems with this particular subject or skill

wrong on the assignment or test. Does he or she understand what mistakes
were made and how to correct them?
Look for signs elsewhere. 7 Consistent (一贯的) low grades
and test scores, however, are worth investigating further. How is your
child during study and homework sessions? Does he or she take far more
time than seems reasonable to complete work? Do tests seem to make
your child anxious?
Remind your child that failure is a part of life. Tell him or her that
making mistakes is how we learn. 8 Let him or her know that you do
not expect perfection, and that this is an opportunity to strive for
improvement.
Focus on the future. 9 Instead, figure out the best way for your
child to overcome any difficulties in order to earn a better grade next time.
Be sure to involve your child when developing that plan of action.
A. Nothing is impossible.
B. Know what your child really needs.
C. Occasional bad grades happen to all students.
D. Share a story about your struggle and frustration.
E. Try not to think too much about a poor grade or test score.
F. Determine whether it’s a one-time problem or a deeper issue.
G. Let your child know that you’re there and you want to help him or her.

me?” Ashley didn’t seem to notice that Ariana was trying to move
away, and she leaned in closer.Ariana wanted badly to tell Ashley that
she didn’t smell very good, but how could she without hurting her
feelings?
When Ariana got home from school, she complained to her
mother,“There’s this girl named Ashley who likes to sit next to me in
school, but she smells bad.Nobody else likes to sit next to her, either.”
“Well, try to be nice to her,” said her mother.“Maybe she’s having
a hard time at home. You never know what a person’s home life is like.”
For the rest of the week, Ariana tried to be a good friend to
Ashley. There were times when they had fun talking and playing together,
especially on the days that Ashley bathed. But the days when she smelled
bad, Ariana still found it very hard to be her friend.
One morning, while getting her hair combed for school, Ariana
brought the subject up again with her mother.
“I don’t want to be friends with Ashley anymore,” she told her.
Her mother’s hands froze in mid-air.Ariana turned to see what the
matter was.Her mother looked upset.Ariana wondered what she had said to
make her mother react this way.
“I don’t think you understand Ashley’s situation, so let me ask you
this ...” Her mother’s tone was serious.“Who makes sure that your hair is
combed every morning so you’ll look nice when you go to school? Who
makes sure you’re bathed and cleaned every day? And your clothes are
washed and neatly ironed?”
“You and Daddy,” answered Ariana.

with her schoolwork.Whatever she did, she was always careful not to

enjoyed talking and hanging out with Ashley. She no longer saw her as the
girl who smelled bad, but as a friend with a kind and warm heart. Not
only did they establish deep and lasting friendship, but they also made
great progress in their studies.
