Ginkgo trees are some of the oldest trees on Earth. They first appeared about 270 million years ago—even before dinosaurs! Today, ginkgo trees are mainly found in China, especially in provinces like Jiangsu and Shandong. The climate there is mild and wet, which is perfect for ginkgo growth.
A young ginkgo tree starts as a small shoot. As it grows, its leaves turn into a fan shape. Unlike many other trees, ginkgo leaves don’t change color in autumn—they stay green until they fall off. Ginkgo trees are also known for their strong ability to live long. Some old ginkgo trees in China are over 1,000 years old!
Ginkgo trees play an important role in the ecosystem. Their leaves provide shade for small animals like birds and frogs. Fallen ginkgo leaves also make the soil rich, helping other plants grow. Besides, ginkgo has been used by humans for a long time—its leaves and seeds are often made into healthy products.
However, ginkgo trees are facing threats. Human activities like cutting down forests and polluting the air have damaged some ginkgo habitats. ▲ To protect ginkgo trees, many cities in China have planted more ginkgo saplings. They also set up signs to stop people from cutting down old ginkgo trees.

Although my grandpa is an 55-year-old man ,he loves garedening .Last Sunday, I went to my grandpa’s garden. It’s a small but lively place full of plants and small animals. When we arrived, grandpa pointed to a patch of green plants and said, "Look, these are pea shoots. They will grow into peas soon."
As we walked around, I saw a frog jumping near the pond. "Don’t scare it," grandpa said. "Frogs eat insects that harm the pea plants. They are our garden helpers." I nodded and watched the frog hide under a lotus leaf—it looked so small and cute.
