第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节 (共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, we highly recommend four films about war.
Schindler’s List (1993)
The film tells the true story of Oskar Schindler, a German businessman who risked everything to save over 1,200 Jews from the horrors of Nazi. Shot in contrasting black and white, it vividly captures the cruelty and sufferings of the war, emphasizes the value of every human life and offers an insightful reflection on the power of good.
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
Set in 1944 Normandy, the film hits home with the bloody opening scene of Omaha Beach. Captain Miller led a team to rescue Private Ryan, whose three brothers were all killed in the war. The shaky camera movements create a realistic sense of chaos, urgency and violence. Overall, the film is a profound exploration of the meaning of war, human nature and the value of life.
The Pianist (2002)
Based on a true story, the film portrays a Polish-Jewish pianist’s survival from the war. Unlike other war films, it focuses on the pianist’s intense and desperate fight for existence instead of grand heroism, showing the weakness of life and the strength of the human spirit in the face of unimaginable horror. Its realistic portrayal of war and the strategic use of silence and pauses make it a timeless cinematic experience.
Dunkirk (2017)
The film focuses on the withdrawal of Allied soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk in May and June 1940. The film captures the desperation of the trapped soldiers and the bravery of the civilian and military personnel who came to their rescue. The director artfully tells three stories at the same time and uses wide sweeping shots to make the audience feel as if they were at the scene.
21.What is the common theme of Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan
A. The value of life. B. The love of country.
C. The power of good. D. The weakness of life.
22.Which film focuses on an individual’s desperate struggle for survival in the war
A. Schindler’s List. B. The Pianist.
C. Saving Private Ryan. D. Dunkirk.
23.What technique is used in Dunkirk
A. Silence and pauses. B. Wide sweeping shots.
C. Black-and-white cinematography. D. Shaky camera movements.
B
“Don’t get dirty!” was once often shouted by parents angrily watching their children destroy their best clothes. It was unavoidable that children’s whites would turn brown before the day was over.
Today, many parents may secretly hope their children can have the chance to pick up a bit of dirt. With the rise of city life, and the attraction of video games and social media, contact with nature is much less than in the past. For many, there is simply no opportunity to get muddy. According to recent research, the dirt outside contains friendly microorganisms (微生物) that can train the immune system (免疫系统) and build the body against illnesses, such as anxiety.
The findings show that outdoor exercise is not only beneficial because of the chance to run around free, but certain natural materials, such as soil and mud, also have powerful microorganisms which have positive effects on children’s health. Outdoor play can also offer valuable learning experiences. For example, the act of rubbing and shaping materials like mud or sand can help children develop their senses and movement.
Such activities — away from the house or classroom — may also help children to find ways to deal with emotions that may be hard to explore in other environments. So-called “sandtray therapy (沙盘疗法)”, which includes using sand to express one’s thoughts and feelings, is an accepted form of guidance for children who are struggling to express their inner feelings.
Surprisingly, people who spent most of their childhood in the countryside show a better reply to stressful events like public speaking compared with those who grew up in cities. “The people who grew up in cities are kind of ‘walking time bombs’ when facing the stress we meet today. However, people who have spent lots of time in nature since childhood generally make a quicker recovery and are more positive,” says Christopher A. Lowry, a professor of the University of Colorado Boulder.
24.What’s the author’s purpose of writing paragraph 1
A. To introduce the topic. B. To share an opinion.
C. To tell a funny story. D. To describe characters.
25.What is a benefit of outdoor exercise
A. Gaining learning experiences.
B. Experiencing the inner emotions.
C. Changing the immune system.
D. Discovering more microorganisms.
26.What makes some people called “walking time bombs”
A. They may cause danger to the public.
B. They perform well in speaking in public.
C. They get affected by stress more easily.
D. They keep a positive and energetic state all the time.
27.In which part of a website can you find the text
A. Culture. B. Health. C. Economy. D. Technology.
C
A small shadow at the corner of your eye made a sharp sound. It came closer. You were chosen. After landing lightly, the mosquito (蚊子) stayed briefly on your skin. Then, it slipped its needle-like mouth into your skin and sucked your blood. Every point in this familiar scene matters when it comes to mosquito-borne diseases like malaria, which lead to nearly a million deaths each year.
A mosquito can pass germs (细菌) before it bites. “It spits a little into you, and that’s when infection (感染) can start,” said Kyle Dahlin, an expert at Virginia Tech. What if you try to beat it and miss What if it lands but doesn’t bite Or it flies to another person and spreads disease there “These repeated chances can make disease spread faster,” Dahlin explained.
To test these situations, Dahlin and his math team made a new model. It looks at trickier real-life cases and points to fresh ways to stop sickness. The study, in the Bulletin of Mathematical Biology, links what one mosquito does to how people act across a whole area. Early runs already show strange, useful facts about disease spread.
For example, in terms of population-level transmission (传染) , the model shows that it might actually be better to let the mosquito bite you. “You might get sick, but somebody else may not. It represents less transmission,” said Lauren Childs, a professor in mathematics. While researchers don’t suggest doing this, with proper data, the findings may help decide which types of chemicals can keep mosquitoes away before they land.
The researchers believe their model could improve our understanding of mosquitoes’ behavior and provide a scientific basis for disease prevention. “This won’t necessarily be a good solution,” Dahlin said, “but hopefully another tool in the toolbox.”
28.What is the purpose of the first paragraph
A. To describe a common experience.
B. To introduce the research background.
C. To explain the spreading of germs.
D. To tell the danger of mosquitoes.
29.What did Dahlin’s model mainly focus on
A. The chemical in mosquitoes.
B. The development of new chemicals for killing mosquitoes.
C. A connection between mosquitoes’ behavior and disease spread.
D. Individual feelings of infection.
30.What is the finding of the model about reducing transmission
A. Mosquitoes prefer certain blood types.
B. Hitting mosquitoes increases infection risk.
C. Transmission decreases with each bite.
D. Letting a mosquito bite may reduce spread.
31.What attitude do researchers hold towards the model’s potential
A. Uncertain. B. Favorable. C. Objective. D. Doubtful.
D
My studies once showed that students perform better when they take notes by hand than when they use laptops. Before I knew it, those studies were used as good reasons for laptop bans (禁止) in classrooms in the U.S. I received a lot of emails blaming (责备) me for such ideas. The fact is that I don’t actually support laptop bans, and never have. In fact, I don’t even ban laptops in my own classes.
In the research, we asked students to watch TED Talks and had them take notes either on laptops or with a pen and paper. Students using laptops recorded the talks nearly with every word, while students who took handwritten notes could not; they just took notes in their own words. Writing by hand required students to understand and summarize the talk. And deeper processing (加工) of the information led to improved learning. As a result, students in this case get higher points on tests.
My findings came out. Teachers around the country soon started banning laptops in their classes. But they didn’t know what actually made learning difficult was the mindless recording of a lecture. Laptops just allowed students to take notes more quickly.
Like most technology, laptops are not universally helpful or harmful in class. Whether they are helpful or harmful depends on the aim. The value of a laptop in the classroom depends on the goal of a lesson plan, the nature of the text, the kind of students being taught, etc.
So can laptops be used in the classroom If a lesson requires exact quotes, then laptops are excellent. But if the goal is conceptual (概念的) understanding, they will produce the exactly opposite results. Don’t forget the situation when deciding whether or not to allow laptops in your class. All in all, the answer to the question is that it depends.
32.Why did the author receive many blaming emails
A. He banned laptops in classes.
B. His studies supported laptop bans.
C. His research results let people down.
D. Schools used his studies to ban laptops.
33.What was the key difference between laptop notes and handwritten notes in the research
A. Laptop notes were much more detailed.
B. Handwritten notes bettered thinking ability.
C. Handwritten notes recorded every word in need.
D. Laptop notes were written in students’ own words.
34.What did the author think made learning difficult in the case of laptop use
A. The technology of laptops itself.
B. Students’ improper use of laptops.
C. The speed of taking notes with laptops.
D. The design of lesson plans for laptop users.
35.What is the main idea of the passage
A. Handwritten notes are better for students’ learning than laptop notes.
B. Laptop bans in classrooms are unreasonable and should be prohibited.
C. The use of laptops in classrooms should be decided based on situations.
D. Research on note-taking methods helps improve teaching achievements.

How to Make Friends in High School
Starting high school can feel like a big, challenging step. You’re walking into a place full of new faces, and it can be hard to figure out how to make friends. 36 Everyone’s looking to connect, even if it doesn’t always seem like that. Here are some tips that can help you!
Recognize your advantages. 37 Your unique experiences can help you stand out in a positive way. You might adapt quickly as a transfer student. You may also face challenges that build your strength. Or you could have a unique culture or story to share. These things make you interesting and can give you something meaningful to talk about with others.
38 It is a great way to make friends. Joining clubs, sports teams, or activities that match your interests can help you meet people who like the same things. For example, if you love art, join the art club or take a drawing class. School events like dances, sports games, and volunteer projects are an easy way to connect with classmates.
Practice communication skills. It is key to making friends. Start with simple conversation starters. Praise someone’s progress in studies or ask about homework. 39 It’s also important to practice active listening. This means showing interest in others by asking open-ended questions, like, “What do you like most about that class ” or “How did you get into that hobby ”
Build trust step by step. Building trust takes time, especially if you feel like you have a hard time connecting with new people. Sit with someone at lunch or chat between classes. These small steps help break the ice without pressure. As you get to know people, share small personal stories. 40

I grew up in a poor family in a small town. With our mother often working nights at a factory, my older sister, Anne, six years my senior, became like a second mother and my best friend.
At seventeen, my only chance for college was a scholarship (奖学金) interview in a distant city. The opportunity filled me with excitement, but also with a deep fear. “Anne,” I told her about my worry one evening. “I’m afraid they’ll judge me before I even speak.” I showed her my pitiful collection of “best” clothes: the old blouse and pants, and worst of all, the worn-out shoes. “It’s the hole in the bottom of the shoes that I’m most worried about,” I said, showing her how I would have to carefully place my feet to hide the hole. “What if I forget and someone sees What if it rains ” The thought of being judged as poor in that important room was terrifying.
Seeing my anxiety, Anne took me to a department store the following weekend. We walked to the shoe section, and she pointed to a fine pair of leather (皮制的) shoes. “Try these on,” she suggested. When I did, they gave me a sense of safety. “We can’t afford these, Anne,” I said, immediately taking them off, my heart aching.
“I can,” she said firmly, already heading to the sales girl. I tried to stop her, reminding her of her own struggles as a part-time student. But she turned to me, her mind made up. “You need to walk into that room standing tall, not thinking about the hole in your shoe. Let this one thing not be a worry for you.” I was speechless, holding the shoes that felt far heavier than their weight.

第二节 (满分25分)
58. Wearing the new shoes, I entered the interview room. The shoes felt comfortable, and every step I took made me less nervous. The interviewers smiled at me, and I answered their questions clearly, without thinking about the old worn-out shoes anymore. When I talked about my dreams of going to college, my voice was loud and firm. After the interview, I walked out of the room with a big smile, knowing I had done my best, all thanks to Anne’s help.
When I opened the door at home, I saw Anne’s anxious face. She ran up to me right away, asking, “How was the interview Did everything go well ” I hugged her tightly and said, “It was great! Those new shoes gave me so much courage.” Then I told her how confident I felt during the interview. Anne’s eyes lit up, and she said, “I knew you could do it.” At that moment, I realized that the most precious thing isn’t the new shoes, but the deep love and support from my sister that always helps me go forward.
