Unit 6
I’m going to study computer science.
Section A
This unit mainly talks about life goals and future intentions. It is a good and elementary teaching material for Chinese students continue to develop their language fun_ction and grammar knowledge. Students may be interested in it.
【Knowledge objectives】
1. Ss will be able to master the following curriculum words and phrases:
Cook, doctor, engineer, violinist, driver, pilot, pianist, scientist, grow up, be sure about, make
sure, college, education, medicine, university, London, article, send
2. Ss will be able to use the target languages freely.

【Ability objectives】
1. Ss will be able to use “be going to” to talk about future intentions and try to master the future tense: be going to
2. Ss will be able to improve their listening skills by predicting、grasping the key words and taking
notes.
【Moral objectives】
Help students build up the positive attitude towards life goals and work for them.
【Teaching key points】
Ss will be able to talk about life goals and future intentions using “want to do” and “be going to”.
【Teaching difficulties】
1. Ss might find it a little difficult to learn some key phrases.
2. Ss might find it a little difficult to use “be going to” and master the future tense: be going to.
教学过程
Step1. Warm-up and leading-in
1. Greet the class.
2. Tell Ss I had a dream when I was a little child. Guess what it is.
3. Tell them though my hard-working, my dream came true when I grew up. I am a teacher now. Ask what they want to be when they grow up. Let them think of more jobs they have already known.
4. Show the language goal and tell Ss the first step to success is “Setting goals.”
Step2. Presentation
1. Show the pictures and learn new words.
At the same time, teach “want to do”.
2. Guess the words from the unclear pictures one by one to have an overall review and do 1a.
3. Ask “Which job is suitable to the girl/boy?”
“Which job is popular in the USA?”
“Which job is a little dangerous? and so on.
4. Ask Ss “What do you want to be when you grow up?”, “How are you going to do that?”
Take “How are you going to be a computer programmer?” for example to each “future tense with be going to” and the actions like “take acting lessons”, “study math really hard”, “practice basketball” and so on.
5. Tell Ss the second step to success is “Working for it.”
Work in pairs to talk about more actions using “be going to”
Step3. Listening and speaking practice
Do 1b
1. Before listening, let Ss guess their dream jobs and call their attention to the listening skill: Predicting before listening can help you listen better.
2. Listen for the first time, let them write down the jobs then check the answers.
Call their attention to the listening skill:Grasp the key words and take notes.
3. Listen for the second time, let them fill in the blanks. Then check the answers
4. Listen for the third time, let them match the jobs and the items. Then check the answers.
After listening, do 1c.
1. Make a conversation with someone as an example. Then let Ss work in pairs and make their original conversations to talk about their future intentions
Remind Ss use the greeting words and modal particle like “well, oh, wow” and look at the other speaker to make the conversation more natural.
2. Invite some pairs to present the conversations.
Do 2a and 2b
1. Lead Ss look at the picture carefully and talk about 3 small pictures.
Ask what is Cheng Han going to do in each small picture.
2. Play the recording. Ask students to check the pictures of things Cheng Han is going to do in 2a.
Then check the answers.
3. Read the instructions for Ss to know what to do in 2a and how to do it.
Pay more attention to the 4 question words and try to guess the questions.
Before listening, tell Ss how to take notes during listening.
4. Play the recording twice and ask Ss to write their answers in the chart in 2b.
T may wish to pause the tape after key lines to allow Ss to finish writing their answers.
Then check the answers.
After listening, do 2c
Point to the questions and answers in 2b.
Ask Ss to make different questions and answers using the information in 2b.
Have them work in pairs to make a conversation about Cheng Han.
Step4. Consolidation
Activity 2d
1. Read the conversation in 2d and answer the questions.
What does Ken want to be? How is he going to become a writer? What does Andy want to be?
2. Listen to the conversation and answer another question
What is Ken’ advice to Andy?
Tell Ss the third step to success is “Trying your best.”
3. Explain language points in 2d.
4. Read the conversation after the tape. Then role-play it in pairs.
Do 3a
1. Lead Ss to have a look at the instruction and the sentences then read them to know what to do and how to do it.
2. Give them enough time to match the sentences in two columns. Then check the answers.
Do 3b
1. Read the conversation together. If they meet blank, please read blank.
2. Let Ss complete the conversation individually. Then check the answers.
Step5. Group work. 3c
1) Work in groups and fill in the wish cards.
2) Discuss their future plans.
3) The leader will report group members’ future plans.
4) Tell Ss the last step to success is “Working together.”
5) Help Ss build up positive attitude towards life goals and work for them.
Step6. Summary
1. Let Ss think of what they learnt in Section A.
2. Review the grammar box.
3. Summarize the grammar “Future with be going to”.
Step7. Homework
1. Interview your cousin and ask him / her about their dream jobs.
2. Survey the Internet and find out 3 most popular dream jobs in China and in the USA.
3. Finish the self-check.
