【临沂】It is a cold and dry winter morning. When you wake up, you feel that your throat hurts. You begin to sneeze and later you may cough. You must have a cold! Wait a moment. Could it just be a common cold or the flu(流感) that’s been going around?
A cold gives you a runny nose and cough. But it’s usually easy to deal with. Some take medicine while others drink herbal tea or chicken soup. Usually you feel better after a week.
On the other hand, the flu can be much more dangerous. It usually gives you fever. Sometimes it can cause death. According to an American magazine, the worst flu killed about 50 million people from 1918 to 1919.
Don’t worry. If you get a flu vaccine(疫苗), it can stop you from getting the virus(病毒). Flu vaccines work by giving the body a small amount of flu viruses. This causes your body to develop antibodies(抗体). So next time you get the flu, the antibodies should help you.
The flu virus changes every few years. Therefore, there are so many types of flu, such as H1N1 and H5N1. The antibodies for one type of flu can’t help us against all types of flu. That’s why we need to get the vaccine every year.
However, good health habits may also help stop you from developing a cold or flu. Washing your hands often helps stop you from getting viruses. It is also important to get regular exercise and eat healthy food. All these can help you strengthen your immune system(增强免疫系统).

I will always remember my mother’s last few days in this world.
On February 14th, 2000, my class went on a field trip to the beach. I had so much fun. When we returned to school, my teacher told me to go to the headmaster’s office. When I got into the office, I saw a police officer. Suddenly I realized something was wrong. The officer told me what had happened and we went to pick my sister up. After that, we went to the hospital and waited. Time went slowly. Finally, we got to see our mother. It was terrible.
The next day, the headmaster came and told my two teachers what had happened. I knew it had something to do with my mother. I kept thinking that she either died or had gotten better. How I wished that she had gotten better! When my teacher took me outside, my sister ran up to me. She started crying, “Mommy’s gone.” I couldn’t believe it. We jumped into the car and drove straight to the hospital. Most of my family were there, and I knew I had to say goodbye.
Today when I look back, I still miss my mother very much, but I know that I will live. My mother was a strong mother, who had the biggest heart. My mother was an angel walking on the earth. I will always remember her as living. When someone is asked who their hero is, they usually say someone famous, like Michael Jordan or Britney Spears. When someone asks me who my hero is, I tell them, my mother. My mother lives every day. That is what makes her a true hero.

Good health is very important. Everyone should do all he can to stay healthy. Being in good health means having both body and mind in good order, free from pain.
Good food, lots of water, cleanness and lots of rest all help in keeping our machines running as they should. Food does many things for our bodies. It gives what we need for keeping in good health. No food gives everything we need. We should eat foods of different kinds. Having enough to eat is not the same as having the right food.
The water we drink helps wash away wastes inside our bodies. It also puts back the water we lose when we perspire(流汗). In fact, more than half of our bodies is water. We must drink enough to replace what we lose.
Sleep is the best kind of rest. Growing children need more sleep than grown-ups. Children’s bodies not only have to be repaired but they also have to grow. No one’s body can grow bigger well when he is working and playing and wearing it out(疲劳).
It has been useful to work for good health. Many years ago, people lived only 20 years. Now people can live about 70 years. It has gone up 20 years just since the beginning of last century.
