Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
(2020河北高三5月模拟)
On
a
recent
day,Katie
Baldwin
took
a
break
from
work
to
talk
about
moving
from
a
wealthy
neighborhood
near
New
York
City
to
an
organic
farm
on
Long
Island.“Farming
for
where
I
grew
up
was
a
very
unusual
career
choice,”said
the
32-year-old
American,“but
everybody
belongs
to
the
land
in
their
own
way.None
of
us
should
feel
separate
from
it.”
Katie
was
raised
in
an
upper-middle-class
town
outside
New
York,where
most
people
never
thought
about
working
on
a
farm.Today,Katie
grows
potatoes,wheat
and
other
crops
at
Quail
Hill,a
property
in
Amagansett,New
York.
In
the
United
States,organic
farming
is
a
growing
industry.Women
operate
some
of
the
best-known
organic
farms
on
Long
Island.Women
make
up
a
little
more
than
37
percent
of
all
organic
farmers
nationwide.That
information
comes
from
the
U.S.Department
of
Agriculture
(USDA).Experts
predict
women’s
share
in
farming
is
likely
to
continue
to
grow.
“The
new
young
farmers
choose
organic
farming
with
their
desire
to
have
an
influence
on
society,”Katie
and
several
farmers
said.She
said,“They
are
choosing
it
to
protect
natural
resources
for
future
generation,to
fight
climate
change,to
feed
their
community
good
and
healthy
food.”
New
York
has
about
1,000
certified
organic
farms,making
it
the
third
largest
in
the
country,and
California
and
Wisconsin
are
the
first
and
second,the
USDA
says.These
farms
make
up
nearly
four
percent
of
the
state’s
farmland,compared
with
a
national
average
of
around
0.6
percent.
Although
organic
farming
is
growing
quickly,it
comes
with
high
labor
costs
and
sometimes
smaller
harvests
than
commercial
farming.So
it
can
be
a
difficult
business
for
new
farmers.“When
I
look
now
at
the
starting
of
the
farm,it
seems
really
audacious,”
Katie
Baldwin
said.“But
in
that
environment
in
2008,everybody
had
lost
their
jobs
and
there
weren’t
jobs.So,it
didn’t
feel
strange
to
start
something,”
she
said.
1.What
does
Katie
think
of
working
at
the
organic
farm?
A.It’s
unacceptable.
B.It’s
worthwhile.
C.It’s
unforgettable.
D.It’s
challenging.
2.Why
do
the
young
people
want
to
work
as
farmers?
A.To
find
a
suitable
job.
B.To
earn
healthy
food.
C.To
stop
climate
change.
D.To
help
the
society
develop.
3.Which
can
replace
the
underlined
word
“audacious”
in
the
last
paragraph?
A.Hopeful.
B.Dangerous.
C.Daring.
D.Reasonable.
4.What
can
be
inferred
from
the
text?
A.American
women
are
good
at
organic
farming.
B.Organic
farming
will
become
a
good
employment.
C.Many
American
communities
lack
abundant
food.
D.Starting
organic
farming
needs
careful
consideration.
B
Several
times
my
daughter
had
telephoned
to
say,“Mum,you
must
come
and
see
the
daffodils(水仙花)before
they
are
over.”
I
wanted
to
go,but
it
was
a
two-hour
drive
from
Lake
Arrowhead.“I
will
go
next
Tuesday,”
I
promised,a
little
unwillingly,on
her
third
call.
The
next
Tuesday
dawned
cold
and
rainy.Still,I
had
promised,and
so
I
drove
there.When
I
finally
walked
into
Carolyn’s
house
and
hugged
and
greeted
my
grandchildren,I
said,“Forget
the
daffodils,Carolyn!
The
road
is
invisible
in
the
cloud
and
fog,and
there
is
nothing
in
the
world
except
you
and
these
children
that
I
want
to
see!”
My
daughter
smiled
calmly
and
said,“We
drive
in
this
weather
all
the
time,Mum.You
will
never
forgive
yourself
if
you
miss
this
experience.”
After
about
twenty
minutes,we
turned
onto
a
small
road
and
I
saw
a
small
church.On
the
far
side
of
the
church,I
saw
a
hand-lettered
sign
that
read
“Daffodil
Garden”.
We
got
out
of
the
car
and
each
took
a
child’s
hand,and
I
followed
Carolyn
down
the
path.Then,we
turned
a
corner
of
the
path,and
I
looked
up
and
gasped.Before
me
lay
the
most
beautiful
sight!
There
were
five
acres
of
flowers!
“But
who
has
done
this?”
I
asked
Carolyn.“It’s
just
one
woman,”
Carolyn
answered.“That’s
her
home,”
Carolyn
pointed
to
a
well-kept
A-frame
house
that
looked
small
and
modest
in
the
midst
of
all
that
glory.We
walked
up
to
the
house.On
the
patio
(庭院),we
saw
a
poster.“Answers
to
the
Questions
I
Know
You
Are
Asking”
was
the
headline.
The
first
answer
was
a
simple
one.“50,000
bulbs(鳞茎),”
it
read.The
second
answer
was,“One
at
a
time,by
one
woman.”
The
third
answer
was,“Began
in
1958.”
I
thought
of
this
woman
whom
I
had
never
met,who,more
than
sixty
years
before,had
begun—one
bulb
at
a
time—to
bring
the
beauty
and
joy
to
the
mountain
top.
5.The
author
didn’t
go
to
see
the
daffodils
at
first
because
.?

in

on
the

top

as
a
gardener
there.

great
efforts
to
grow
the
daffodils.

and

Ⅰ.阅读理解
1.B 推理判断题。根据第一段可知,Katie认为身为社区的一分子,应该为当地农业的发展做出贡献。由此可知,Katie认为在有机农场工作是值得的。故选B项。
2.D 细节理解题。根据第四段可知,那些年轻人选择从事有机农业生产,是为了给社会带来一些影响和变化,最终是为了促进社会发展。故选D项。
3.C 猜测词义题。画线部分后面一句话的大意是“但是在2008年的大环境下,人们都失业了,所以当时开始一些东西并不奇怪”。
故选C项。
4.D 推理判断题。根据最后一段前两句可知,有机农业生产存在着高投入、低回报的风险。因此,年轻人在开始选择这个行业时应深思熟虑。故选D项。
5.D 细节理解题。根据第一段中的I
wanted
to
go,but
it
was
a
two-hour
drive
from
Lake
Arrowhead.以及第二段中的“Forget
the
daffodils,Carolyn!The
road
is
invisible
in
the
cloud
and
fog,and
there
is
nothing
in
the
world
except
you
and
these
children
that
I
want
to
see!”可知,作者是担心路不好走才不愿意去的,所以D选项是正确的。
6.C 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中的The
first
answer
was
a
simple
one.“50,000
bulbs,”
it
read.The
second
answer
was,“One
at
a
time,by
one
woman.”
The
third
answer
was,“Began
in
1958.”可以推断,这位妇人从1958年开始就一直一个人在这里种植水仙花,因此选C项。
A项说该妇人心不在焉,不符合事实;B项文章中并没有提到她的职业是园丁;D项全文也没有提到该妇人以售卖水仙花为生,由此排除A、B和D项。
7.C 主旨大意题。根据倒数第二段中的The
first
answer
was
a
simple
one.“50,000
bulbs,”
it
read.The
second
answer
was,“One
at
a
time,by
one
woman.”
The
third
answer
was,“Began
in
1958.”以及倒数第一段I
thought
of
this
woman
whom
I
had
never
met,who,more
than
sixty
years
before...可知这个故事的真谛:每次栽种一株水仙花,六十多年的坚持不懈培育出一片水仙花。所以C选项是正确的。
Ⅱ.语法填空
1.in 考查介词。live
in是固定词组,表示“在……地方生活”,故填in。
2.what 考查名词性从句。根据语法结构可知,what引导的宾语从句作on的宾语。由于该宾语从句中缺少主语,同时空处表示“……的事物”,故填what。
3.than 考查比较级。根据上文的more
food可知,此处是more...than...结构,表示“比……多……”。
4.was
needed 考查动词的时态和语态。结合句意“出生的孩子越多,需要的粮食就越多”可知,more
food与need构成被动关系,且文章的基本时态为一般过去时,故填was
needed。
5.to
change 考查非谓语动词中的不定式。分析句子结构可知,此处为动词不定式作后置定语,修饰名词短语the
power
of
technology,故填to
change。
6.had
discovered 考查动词的时态。根据时间状语By
about
6000
BC可知,句子谓语动词应用过去完成时,故填had
discovered。
7.seasons 考查名词的单复数。根据常识和语境可知,人们开始按照季节更替来种植庄稼,故填seasons。
8.making 考查非谓语动词中的动词-ing形式。结合and和上文的planting可知,此处应该填making与其并列。
9.the 考查冠词。根据空后的rise
of
science可知,此处是名词的限定性修饰,语意为“科学的兴起”,故填定冠词the,表示特指。
10.meant 考查动词的时态和语态。结合句意可知,New
methods与mean是主谓关系,同时文章的基本时态为一般过去时,故填meant。
