【能力提升】
Ⅰ.阅读
For
those
who
can
stomach__it,__working
out
before
breakfast
may
be
more
beneficial
for
health
than
eating
first,
according
to
a
study
of
meal
timing
and
physical
activity.
Athletes
and
scientists
have
long
known
that
meal
timing
affects
performance.
However,
far
less
has
been
known
about
how
meal
timing
and
exercise
might
affect
general
health.
To
find
out,
British
scientists
conducted
a
study.
They
first
found
10
overweight
and
inactive
but
otherwise
healthy
young
men,
whose
lifestyles
are,
for
better
and
worse,
representative
of
those
of
most
of
us.
They
tested
the
men's
fitness
and
resting
metabolic
(新陈代谢的)
rates
and
took
samples
(样品)
of
their
blood
and
fat
tissue.
Then,
on
two
separate
morning
visits
to
the
scientists'
lab,
each
man
walked
for
an
hour
at
an
average
speed
that,
in
theory,
should
allow
his
body
to
rely
mainly
on
fat
for
fuel.
Before
one
of
these
workouts,
the
men
skipped
breakfast,
meaning
that
they
exercised
on
a
completely
empty
stomach
after
a
long
overnight
fast
(禁食).
On
the
other
occasion,
they
ate
a
rich
morning
meal
about
two
hours
before
they
started
walking.
Just
before
and
an
hour
after
each
workout,
the
scientists
took
additional
samples
of
the
men's
blood
and
fat
tissue.
Then
they
compared
the
samples.
There
were
considerable
differences.
Most
obviously,
the
men
displayed
lower
blood
sugar
levels
at
the
start
of
their
workouts
when
they
had
skipped
breakfast
than
when
they
had
eaten.
As
a
result,
they
burned
more
fat
during
walks
on
an
empty
stomach
than
when
they
had
eaten
first.
On
the
other
hand,
they
burned
slightly
more
calories
(卡路里),
on
average,
during
the
workout
after
breakfast
than
after
fasting.
But
it
was
the
effects
deep
within
the
fat
cells
that
may
have
been
the
most
significant,
the
researchers
found.
Multiple
genes
behaved
differently,
depending
on
whether
someone
had
eaten
or
not
before
walking.
Many
of
these
genes
produce
proteins
(蛋白质)
that
can
improve
blood
sugar
regulation
and
insulin
(胰岛素)
levels
throughout
the
body
and
so
are
associated
with
improved
metabolic
health.
These
genes
were
much
more
active
when
the
men
had
fasted
before
exercise
than
when
they
had
breakfasted.
The
implication
of
these
results
is
that
to
gain
the
greatest
health
benefits
from
exercise,
it
may
be
wise
to
skip
eating
first.
1.The
underlined
expression
“stomach

in
Paragraph

most
probably
means
“________”.
A.digest
the
meal
easily
B.manage
without
breakfast
C.decide
wisely
what
to
eat
D.eat
whatever
is
offered
2.Why
were
the
10
people
chosen
for
the
experiment?
A.Their
lifestyles
were
typical
of
ordinary
people.
B.Their
lack
of
exercise
led
to
overweight.
C.They
could
walk
at
an
average
speed.
D.They
had
slow
metabolic
rates.
3.What
happened
to
those
who
ate
breakfast
before
exercise?
A.They
successfully
lost
weight.
B.They
consumed
a
bit
more
calories.
C.They
burned
more
fat
on
average.
D.They
displayed
higher
insulin
levels.
4.What
could
be
learned
from
the
research?
A.A
workout
after
breakfast
improves
gene
performances.
B.Too
much
workout
often
slows
metabolic
rates.
C.Lifestyle
is
not
as
important
as
morning
exercise.
D.Physical
exercise
before
breakfast
is
better
for
health.
Ⅱ.七选五
Cloning
is
defined
as
using
the
cells
of
one
living
subject,
plant
or
animal,
to
create
another
duplicate
(复制的)
subject.
A
cloned
subject
will
be
the
same
as
its
parent.
This
technology
could
be
useful
for
laboratory
studies
and
for
creating
satisfying
animals.
__1__
One
of
the
biggest
disadvantages
of
cloning
is
that
the
technology
is
still
so
uncertain.
Dolly
the
sheep,
the
first
mammalian
clone,
was
born
in
1996.
While
she
was
initially
successful,
she
died
young
of
a
disease
not
normally
seen
in
sheep
of
her
age.
__2__
Losing
gene
diversity
is
another
disadvantage
of
cloning.
Gene
diversity
is
what
keeps
an
entire
species
from
being
wiped
out
by
a
singular
virus.
__3__
If
gene
diversity
is
lost
due
to
excessive
cloning,
there
are
no
mutations
to
allow
some
of
the
cloned
group
to
survive
a
newly
introduced
disease.
Another
of
the
disadvantages
of
cloning
is
that
there
are
a
lot
of
moral
considerations
that
would
cause
most
people
to
protest.
__4__
Another
concern
is
the
treatment
of
clones.
Clones
would
have
the
same
needs
as
non?clones
of
their
species.
Humane
treatment
guidelines
would
still
apply.
__5__
For
example,
imagine
what
a
corrupt
(腐败的)
officer
could
do
with
cloning.
There
will
always
be
someone
looking
to
use
cloning
for
their
own
personal
use,
and
many
feel
that
the
best
way
to
prevent
this
is
not
to
pursue
cloning
at
all.
The
disadvantages
of
cloning
are
seen
by
many
to
far
outweigh
any
benefits
that
might
be
seen.
Because
of
the
risk
involved
in
cloning,
it
is
a
technology
that
many
experts
say
may
be
better
left
alone,
at
least
until
it
is
better
understood.
A.This
is
due
to
the
lack
of
gene
diversity.
B.One
of
these
ethical
concerns
is
that
cloning
is
unnatural.
C.There
is
always
a
risk
of
cloning
technology
being
abused.
D.There
are
many
advantages
of
cloning,
for
example,
curing
certain
diseases.
E.However,
there
are
several
disadvantages
of
cloning
that
should
be
considered.
F.It
helps
to
explain
why
some
people
naturally
are
taller,
shorter,
or
more
athletic
than
others.
G.It
is
still
unsure
whether
genetic
mutations
(突变)
might
occur
when
an
animal
is
cloned.

第二节 读后续写
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Jenny
was
a
bright?eyed,
pretty
five?year?old
girl.
One
day
when
she
and
her
mother
were
checking
out
at
the
grocery
store,
Jenny
saw
a
plastic
pearl
necklace
which
was
priced
at
$2.50.
How
she
wanted
that
necklace,
and
when
she
asked
her
mother
if
she
would
buy
it
for
her,
her
mother
said,
“Well,it
is
a
pretty
necklace,
but
it
costs
an
awful
lot
of
money.
I'll
tell
you
what.
I'll
buy
you
the
necklace,
and
when
we
get
home
we
can
make
up
a
list
of
chores
that
you
can
do
to
pay
for
the
necklace.
And
don't
forget
that
for
your
birthday
grandma
just
might
give
you
a
whole
dollar
bill,
too.
Okay?”
Jenny
agreed
happily,
and
her
mother
bought
the
pearl
necklace
for
her.
Jenny
worked
on
her
chores
very
hard
every
day,
and
sure
enough,
her
grandma
gave
her
a
brandnew
dollar
bill
for
her
birthday.
Soon
Jenny
had
paid
off
the
pearls.
How
Jenny
loved
those
pearls!
She
wore
them
everywhere
to
kindergarten,
bed
and
even
when
she
went
out
with
her
mother
to
run
errands.
The
only
time
she
didn't
wear
them
was
in
the

because
her
mother
had
told
her
that
they
would
turn
her
neck
green!
Jenny
had
a
very
loving
Daddy.
When
Jenny
went
to
bed,
he
would
get
up
from
his
favourite
chair
every
night
and
read
Jenny
her
favourite
story.
One
night
when
he
finished
the
story,
he
asked
Jenny,
“Hey,
sweetie,
do
you
love
me?”
“Oh
yes,
Daddy,
you
know
I
love
you,”
the
little
girl
said
with
a
warm
smile.
“Well,
then,
give
me
your
pearls.”
“Oh!
Daddy,
not
my
pearls!”
Jenny
refused.
“But
you
can
have
Rosy,
my
favourite
doll.
Remember
her?
You
gave
her
to
me
last
year
for
my
birthday.
And
you
can
have
her
tea

outfit,
too.
Okay?”
“Oh
no,

Her
father

【能力提升】Ⅰ.阅读
1.B 词义猜测题。本题题干意为:第一段中画线短语“stomach
it”的意思最可能是________。由第一段第一句“对于那些能忍受不吃早饭的人而言,早饭前锻炼可能要比吃了早饭锻炼对健康更有好处”可知,B项“没吃早饭”正确。A:更容易消化食物;C:明智地决定吃什么;D:有什么吃什么。
2.A 细节理解题。本题题干意为:为什么这十个人被选去做实验?根据第三段的“whose
lifestyles
are,...representative
of
those
of
most
of
us”可知,无论好坏,这十个人的生活方式代表着我们大多数人的生活方式。故A项“他们的生活方式在普通人中很典型”正确。B:他们缺乏锻炼导致超重;C:他们能以平均速度走路;D:他们新陈代谢速率低。
3.B 细节理解题。本题题干意为:锻炼前吃了早饭的那些人会发生什么?根据第六段中的“On
the
other
hand,
they
burned
slightly
more
calories...”可知,吃了早饭锻炼的人燃烧了稍微多一点的卡路里。故答案为B项“他们消耗了更多一点的卡路里”。A:他们成功地减重了;C:他们平均燃烧了更多的脂肪;D:他们显露出更高的胰岛素水平。
4.D 主旨大意题。本题题干意为:从这项研究中可以获知什么?从文中最后一段中的“to
gain
the
greatest
health
benefits...
it
may
be
wise
to
skip
eating
first”可知,为了从锻炼中获得最大的健康好处,不进食锻炼是明智的。故选D项“早饭前(进行)体育锻炼对身体健康会更好”。A:早饭后锻炼提升基因表现;B:过多的锻炼会减缓新陈代谢速率;C:生活方式不如晨练重要。
Ⅱ.七选五
1.E 根据上句说明克隆技术的意义和下文介绍克隆技术的缺点可知,这里应表示转折,并引出下文。故选E项。
2.G 本段的主题是“the
technology
is
still
so
uncertain,”所以G项(仍然不能确定在克隆动物时是否会发生基因突变)符合语境。故选G项。
3.F 根据本段的关键词diversity可知,F项讲基因多样性的作用,符合语境。故选F项。
4.B 空后的关键词Another
concern与B项中的“One
of
these
ethical
concerns”相呼应。故选B项。
5.C 本段讲的是克隆技术滥用带来的危害,与C项“There
is
always
a
risk
of
cloning
technology
being
abused.”相呼应。故选C项。
Ⅲ.语法填空
1.What 考查名词性从句。分析句子结构并结合语境可知,本空引导主语从句,且在从句中作主语,意为“……的事物”。本空位于句首,首字母应大写,故填What。
2.humans 考查复数名词。本空作宾语从句主语we的同位语,故应该用名词的复数形式。
3.undoubtedly 考查副词。分析句子结构可知,空处作状语修饰动词help,故填undoubtedly。
4.hotter 考查形容词比较级。根据语境可知气温越低,温泉就越热。本空所在句使用了“the+比较级,the+比较级”结构表示“越……越……”,故本空填hot的比较级hotter。
5.astonished 考查形容词。本空在“leave+复合宾语”结构中作宾补,astonished“吃惊的,惊讶的”,astonishing“令人惊讶的”,根据语境可知,这里指的是使我们惊讶,故填astonished。
6.was 考查时态。句中有时间状语then,因此这里说的是当初人们把那些石头放在固定的位置上(即做成石头台阶)很难,本空填was。
7.and 考查连词。本空连接两个谓语动词(highlights和offers),表示顺接关系,因此这里填并列连词and。
8.aching 考查非谓语动词。本空在句中作定语,ache与中心词legs是逻辑上的主动关系,故用现在分词aching。
9.mine 考查代词。与前面的it
will
always
stick
in
the
visitor's
memory呼应,这里表示It
sure
sticks
in
my
memory,因此本空填名词性物主代词mine。
10.a 考查冠词。此处must表示“必须做的事”,为可数名词,通常用单数。a
must表示“必须做的一件事”。

A
week
later,
Jenny's
father
once
again
asked
Jenny
the
same
question
after
her
story,
“Do
you
love
me?”
Jenny
gave
a
definite
answer
to
this
question
without
hesitation.
But
when
the
conversation
came
to
whether
she
could
give
her
pearls
to
her
father,
she
refused
a
second
time.
Another
week
later,
when
her
father
came
in
to
read
her
a
story
as
usual,
Jenny
was
sitting
on
her
bed
and
her
lips
were
trembling.
“Here,
Daddy,”
she
said,
and
held
out
her
hand.
Inside
of
her
hand
was
her
beloved
plastic
pearl
necklace.
She
let
it
slip
into
her
father's
hand.
At
this
time,
her
father
pulled
out
of
his
pocket
a
blue
velvet
box,
and
some
real,
genuine
beautiful
pearls
were
just
inside.
He
had
had
them
all
along.
He
was
waiting
for
Jenny
to
give
up
the
cheap
stuff
so
he
could
give
her
the
real
thing.
Sometimes,
life
is
just
like
this:
Give
up
one
thing
and
get
another
chance
to
receive
a
better
thing.
