B
After
the
heavy
rain
passes,a
man
at
a
company
that
lies
on
the
riverbank
arrives
for
work.
At
the
water’s
edge,he
notices
a
baby
beaver(海狸)
balls
up
on
the
ground.
Realizing
that
the
animal
needs
help,the
man
picks
him
up
and
drives
to
a
nearby
animal
hospital.
From
here
the
beaver
is
sent
to
the
Calgary
Wildlife
Rehabilitation
Society(CWRS),where
he
will
begin
his
recovery.
Vets
check
the
beaver—now
named
Birch—for
wounds
or
broken
bones.
Luckily
they
find
no
injuries.
“But
he’s
a
real
little
animal—only
three
and
a
half
pounds,”
says
Andrea
Hunt,a
worker
at
the
rehab
center.
According
to
his
weight,they
think
that
Birch
is
about
eight
weeks
old.
“Baby
beavers
stay
with
their
families
for
one
to
two
years,”
Hunt
says.“He’s
not
ready
to
care
for
himself.
If
he
hadn’t
been
saved,he
almost
certainly
wouldn’t
have
survived.”
To
keep
Birch
from
getting
lonely,Hunt
pairs
him
with
another
baby
beaver
named
Aspen.
At
first
they’re
fed
a
milky
cereal.
A
few
weeks
later,Birch
and
Aspen
begin
a
diet(饮食)
of
solid
food
that
includes
leafy
kale
and
collard
greens.
Wood
is
also
on
the
menu.
For
exercise,each
beaver
receives
its
own
pool
to
swim
in.
About
a
year
later,Birch
weighs
27
pounds.
“Not
only
is
he
healthy,but
he’s
also
learned
good
survival
skills,”
Hunt
says.“It’s
time
to
let
him
go.”
Early
one
morning
the
beaver
is
driven
into
a
Canadian
forest
to
be
set
free.
Birch
is
carried
in
a
cage(笼子)
to
the
bank
of
a
lake.
When
the
door
opens,he
carefully
steps
out,then
jumps
into
the
water
and
swims
away.“We’ll
miss
Birch,”
Hunt
says.
“But
nothing
feels
better
than
putting
an
animal
back
where
it
should
be.”

beginning
to
draw
tourists
from
all
corners
of
Europe.
It’s
said
that
most
visitors
come
here
to
see
the
famous
soccer
team
play.
The
mood
of
the
locals
is
often
changed
by
the
success
or
failure
of
the
local
team.
Newcastle’s
most
popular
place

is
in

on.
During

happiness.

crazy
soccer
fans,
and
you’ll
find
it
hard
to
get
a
ticket
if
you
don’t
wait
in
the
queue
early.
As
you
can
see,
Newcastle
is
a
fascinating
city
with

many
things
to

The

Even

六、读后续写
46.阅读下面短文,
根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整故事。
When
I
was
17,
I
read
a
magazine
article
about
a
museum
called
the
McNay
Art
Museum,
once
the
home
of
a
watercolorist
named
Marian
McNay.
She
had
requested
the
community
to
turn
it
into
a
museum
upon
her
death.
On
a
sunny
Saturday,
Sally
and
I
drove
over
to
the
museum.
“Do
you
have
the
address?”
Sally
asked
while
we
were
on
the
way.
“No,
but
I
will
recognize
it.
There
was
a
picture
in
the
magazine”
I
answered
confidently.
“Oh
There
it
is.”
I
pulled
my
car
slowly
over
a
house
which
seemed
like
a
house
with
heavy
smell?of?life
rather
than
a
former
residence(故居).
Surprisingly,
nobody
was
at
the
gate
and
admission
was
free.
We
opened
the
door
and
entered,
excited.
A
group
of
people
sitting
around
a
table
stopped
chatting
and
started
at
us.
A
sweet
girl
in
her
teens
locked
her
eyes
on
us
and
welcomed
us
with
a
sweet
smile,
“Hello,
but
who
are
you
looking
for?”
A
man
stood
up
and
said
almost
at
the
same
time
“May
I
help
you?”
“No,”
I
said.
“We’re
fine.”
Tour
guides
got
on
my
nervous.
What
if
they
talked
a
long
time
about
a
painting
you
were
not
that
interested
in?
Sally
had
gone
upstairs.
The
people
in
the
hall
seemed
very
confused,
keeping
their
eyes
on
me
with
curiosity.
What
was
their
problem?
Some
nice
sculptures
were
well
placed
along
the
staircases(楼梯)
and
some
paintings
from
Van
Gogh
or
Picasso
were
hanging
on
walls
and
I
appreciated
them
and
highly
praised
the
most
beautiful
house.
Suddenly
a
picture
of
a
man
surrounded
by
a
warm
family
caught
my
eyes
and
I
also
spotted
the
sweet
girl
among
them.
“This
is
the
most
beautiful
house
I
have
visited.”
said
I,
turning
sharply,
almost
scaring
the
girl
standing
behind
me.
“The
most
beautiful
house
?
The
most
beautiful
house!”She
murmured.
“Am
I
at
the
McNay
Art
Museum?”
asked
I
.

45.With
the
development
of
the
Internet,
many
people
are
used
to
shopping
online.
Shopping
online
has
many
advantages.
Just
by
a
click
of
the
mouse,
you
can
buy
what
you’re
interested
in
without
going
outdoors.
When
shopping
online,
you
can
choose
from
more
varieties
of
goods,
whose
prices
are
generally
lower.
Its
disadvantages
are
obvious,
too.
First,
it’s
very
easy
for
you
to
buy
goods
different
from
the
pictures
you
see
on
the
Internet.
Second,
shopping
online
may
cause
people
to
buy
goods
that
are
not
badly
needed.
What’s
your
opinion
about
shopping
online?

46.Paragraph
1:
She
smiled,
shaking
her
head.
“Sorry,
the
McNay
Art
Museum
is
on
another
street.”
“What’s
this
place?”
I
asked,
still
confused.
“It’s
my
home”
she
said
with
a
sweet
smile
and
her
answer
shocked
me.
Recovering
from
the
shock,
I
raced
to
the
staircases
and
called
Sally
to
come
down
immediately.
I
pushed
her
towards
the
front
door,
waving
at
the
family
and
asking
them
to
forgive
us
for
breaking
into
their
beautiful
house.
Outside,
when
I
told
Sally
what
had
happened,
she
covered
her
mouth,
laughing.
Paragraph
2:
Years

me,
asking
whether
I

“Yes.
But
how
do
you

We
never
told
anyone.”I
asked
in
surprise.
“That
was
my

I

locked
my

her

out
the
familiar

She
told
me
she
never

lucky
before
we
came
over
and
she
never

what
a
beautiful
house
she
once

Her

her

changed
after
that
and
she
had
always
wanted
to
thank
me.
