UNIT

LOOKING
INTO
THE
FUTURE
课时分层作业(六)
Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
If
you
could
travel
in
time,
where
would
you
go?
Perhaps
you
would
watch
an
original
performance
of
a
Shakespeare's
play
in
Elizabethan
England?
What
about
hanging
out
with
Laozi
in
the
Spring
and
Autumn
Period?
Or
maybe
you'd
voyage
far
ahead
of
the
present
day
to
see
what
the
future
holds.The
possibility
of
time
travel
is
indeed
appealing.Stories
exploring
the
subject
have
been
around
for
hundreds
of
years.Perhaps
the
best
known
example
is
science
fiction
novel
The
Time
Machine,
which
was
written
by
H.G.Wells
and
published
in
1895
for
the
first
time.It
was
adapted
into
at
least
two
feature
films
of
the
same
name,
as
well
as
two
television
versions,
and
a
large
number
of
comic
book
adaptations.It
is
generally
credited
with
the
popularization
of
the
concept
of
time
travel
using
a
vehicle
that
allows
an
operator
to
travel
purposefully
and
selectively.The
term
“time
machine”,
coined
by
Wells,
is
now
universally
used
to
refer
to
a
vehicle
transporting
people
into
the
far
future.
But
could
time
travel
actually
be
possible?
Some
scientists
say
yes,in
theory.They
propose
using
cracks
in
time
and
space
called
“wormholes”,
which
could
be
used
as
shortcuts
to
other
periods.Einstein's
theory
of
relativity
allows
time
travel
in
extreme
circumstances.And
British
physicist
Stephen
Hawking
says
you
could
travel
into
the
future
with
a
really
fast
spaceship—going
at
nearly
the
speed
of
light.Though
building
such
a
spaceship
would
of
course
be
no
simple
task.
Even
if
you
could
travel
into
the
past,
there
is
something
called
the
“grandfather
paradox”.It
asks
what
would
happen
if
a
time
traveler
were
to
go
back
in
time
and
have
his
own
grandfather
killed
for
some
reason,
and
therefore
prevent
himself
from
being
born.If
the
time
traveler
wasn't
born,
how
would
he
travel
back
in
time?
And
would
you
really
like
to
visit
the
future?
In
H.G.Wells'
book,
the
main
character
travels
into
distant
time
where
he
arrives
at
a
beach
and
is
attacked
by
giant
crabs.He
then
voyages
30
million
years
into
the
future
where
the
only
living
thing
is
a
black
object
with
tentacles(触角).If
that's
what's
in
store,
maybe
we
are
better
just
living
in
the
present
day
after
all.

extreme
circumstances.And
British
physicist
Stephen
Hawking
says
you
could
travel
into
the
future
with
a
really
fast
spaceship—going
at
nearly
the
speed
of
light.”可知,爱因斯坦的相对论允许在极端的环境下时光穿梭;英国物理学家斯蒂芬·霍金说你可以用接近光速的宇宙飞船到未来旅行。由此可知,两个人的理论证明了时间旅行的可能性,所以选D项。]
3.In

paradox”
probably
refers
to
the
idea
that________.
A.the
traveler
is
prevented
from
meeting
his
grandfather
B.the
traveler
goes
back
in
time
to
seek
for
his

and
have
his
own
grandfather
killed
for
some
reason,
and
therefore
prevent

These

can
expect
even
worse
traffic
jams,”says
Paul
Mackie,
director
of
a
transportation
policy
research
center
in
Arlington.
A
study
by
this
center
found
73
percent
of
delivery
vehicles
in
Arlington
were
parked
outside
of
authorized
areas,
often
blocking
bike
lanes
and
crosswalks.By
moving
the
last
step
of
deliveries
from
the
road
to
the
sidewalk,cities
could
reduce
traffic
jams
and
solve
the
parking
problem
entirely,Mackie
says.
Companies
such
as
Amazon
are
not
developing
this
delivery
technology
simply
to
clear
up
urban
traffic.Self?driving
vehicles
and
sidewalk
robots
could
cut
down
last?mile
delivery
costs
in
cities
by
as
much
as

to
a
2018

in
the

in
the

could
end
up
saving
billions
of
dollars,
the

Ⅱ.概要写作
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
Some
experts
argue
the
fact
that
almost
one
in
four
teens
is
constantly
online
which
is
a
dangerous
thing,
yet
I
believe
that
it's
an
opportunity.Technology
brings
us
closer
together
and
can
help
us
in
everyday
life
rather
than
replacing
friends
with
screens.
First,I
believe
that
technology
takes
the
embarrassment
out
of
face?to?face
contact,
as
talking
to
someone
may
make
you
uncomfortable.You
could
not
say
what
is
on
your
mind.A
much
simpler
way
of
communicating
is
through
texts.By
texting
a
person,
there
is
no
resistance(抵抗)to
what
you
are
trying
to
say.You
are
able
to
revise
your
words
before
you
send
them,
hopefully
not
saying
something
you
will
later
regret
or
that
could
hurt
someone's
feelings.Apart
from
making
friends
face
to
face,
there
are
other
ways
of
interaction
using
technology.Technology
can
help
bond
people
together
by
showing
similar
interests.
Second,
technology
can
help
friends
and
family
keep
in
touch.When
moments
together
are
not
within
reach,
the
next
best
thing
is
to
use
technology
to
catch
up
on
each
other's
life
and
share
precious
moments
through
videos
and
calls.The
ability
to
play
back
a
memory
on
a
screen
is
amazing,
something
that
can
be
cherished
and
kept
forever.
Some
may
argue
technology
is
the
problem
in
the
world,
but
I
do
not.I
believe
that
technology
helps
you
escape
the
evil
and
pressure
in
the
world
and
has
the
ability
to
let
you
create
your
own
world
where
what
others
say
or
think
doesn't
matter.After
a
stressful
time,
technology
is
there
to
help
you
communicate
and
remind
you
what
you
should
be
grateful
for,
or
just
make
your
day
a
little
better.
In
conclusion,
I
believe
that
not
only
is
technology
not
replacing
friends
with
screens
but
it's
actually
bringing
us
closer
together
and
establishing
relationships
among
teens.Overall,
I
believe
this
topic
makes
the
world
a
better
place
by
making
it
easier
to
create
friends,
and
make
otherwise
lost
friends
keep
in
touch.
