Susan
Williams
went
to
a
boarding
school.
Here
is
one
of
the
letters
she
wrote
to
her
parents
from
the
school.
Dear
Mom
and
Dad,
I’m
afraid
I
have
some
very
bad
news
for
you.
I
have
been
very
naughty
and
the
school
principal(校长)is
very
angry
with
me.
She
is
going
to
write
to
you.
You
must
come
and
take
me
away
from
here.
She
does
not
want
me
in
the
school

longer.
The
trouble
started
last
night
when
I
was
smoking
a
cigarette
in
bed.This
is
against
the

course.
We
are

As
I
was
smoking,
I
heard
footsteps
coming
towards
the
room.
I
did
not
want
a
teacher
to
catch
me
smoking,
so
I
threw
the
cigarette
away.
Unfortunately,
the
cigarette
fell
into
the
waste-paper
basket,
which
caught
fire.
There
was
a
curtain
near
the
waste-paper
basket
which
caught
fire,
too.
Soon
the
whole
room
was
burning.
The
principal
phoned
for
the
fire
department.
The
school
is
a
long
way
from
the
town
and
by
the
time
the
fire
department
arrived,
the
whole
school
was
in
flames.
Many
of
the
girls
are
in
the
hospital.
The
principal
says
that
the
fire
was
all
my
fault
and
you
must
pay
for
the
damage.
She
will
send
you
a
bill
for
about
a
million
dollars.
I
am
very
sorry
about
this.
Much
love,
Susan.
P.S.
None
of
the
above
is
true,
but
I
have
failed
my
exams.
I
just
want
you
to
know
how
bad
things
could
have
been!

C
Shyness
is
the
cause
of
much
unhappiness
for
a
great
many
people.
Shy
people
are
anxious
and
self-conscious;
that
is,
they
are
over
concerned
with
their
own
appearance
and
actions.
Worrisome
thoughts
are
constantly
occurring
in
their
minds;
what
kind
of
impression
am
I
making?
Do
they
like
me?
Do
I
sound
stupid?
Am
I
wearing
unattractive
clothes?
It
is
obvious
that
such
uncomfortable
feelings
must
affect
people
unfavorably.
A
person’s
self-concept
is
reflected
in
the
way
he
or
she
behaves
and
the
way
a
person
think
about
themselves
which
has
a
deep
effect
on
all
areas
of
their
lives.
Shy
people,
who
have
low
self-esteem(自尊),
are
likely
to
be
passive
and
easily
influenced
by
others.
They
need
faith
that
they
are
doing
“the
right
thing”.
Shy
people
are
very
sensitive
to
criticism.
It
makes
them
feel
inferior(自卑).
They
also
find
it
difficult
to
be
pleased
by
praises
because
they
believe
they
are
unworthy
of
praise.
A
shy
person
may
respond
to
a
praise
with
a
statement
like
this
one:
“You’re
just
saying
that
to
make
me
feel
good,
I
know
it’s
not
true.”
It
is
clear
that,
while
self-awareness
is
a
healthy
quality,
overdoing
it
is
harmful.
Can
shyness
be
completely
got
rid
of,
or
at
least
reduced?
Fortunately,
people
can
overcome
shyness
with
determination.
It
is
important
for
people
to
accept
their
weaknesses
as
well
as
their
strengths,
for
example,
not
fair
for
them
to
label
themselves
inferior
because
they
have
to
be
realistic.
Living
on
the
impossible
leads
to
a
sense
of
inadequacy(不适当,不充足).
Each
one
of
us
has
his
or
her
own
characteristics.
We
are
interested
in
our
own
personal
ways.
The
better
we
understand
ourselves,
the
easier
it
becomes
to
live
up
to
our
chances
for
a
rich
and
fulfilling
life.

The
first
paragraph
is
mainly
about
________.
A.
the
thoughts
of
shy
people
B.
the
cause
of
shyness
C.
the
effect
of
shyness
on
people
D.
the
questions
in
the
minds
of
shy
people
9.
According
to
the
writer,
self-awareness
is
________.
A.
harmful
to
people
B.
a
weak
point
of
shy
people
C.
the
cause
of
unhappiness
D.
a
good
characteristics
10.
What
is
the
shy
people’s
reaction
to
praise?
A.
They
are
pleased
by
it
B.
They
feel
it
is
not
true
C.
They
are
very
sensitive
to
it
D.
They
feel
they
are
worthy
of
it
11.
We
can
learn
from
the
passage
that
shyness
can
________.
A.
block
our
chances
for
a
successful
life
B.
help
us
to
live
up

【10题详解】

with
a

【11题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“The

the
easier
it
becomes
to
live
up
to
our
chances
for
a
rich

D
While
small
may
be
beautiful,
tall
is
just
plain
uncomfortable
it
seems,
particularly
when
it
comes
to
staying
in
hotels
and
eating
in
restaurants.
The
Tall
Persons
Club
Great
Britain
(TPCGB),
which
was
formed
six
months
ago
to
campaign
for
the
needs
of
the
tall,
has
turned
its
attention
to
hotels
and
restaurants.
Beds
that
are
too
small,
shower
heads
that
are
too
low,
and
restaurant
tables
with
hardly
any
leg-room
all
make
life
difficult
for
those
of
above
average
height,
it
says.
But
it
is
not
just
the
extra-tall
whose
needs
are
not
being
met.
The
average
height
of
the
population
has
been
increasing
yet
the
standard
size
of
beds,
doorways,
and
chairs
has
remained
unchanged.
“The
bedding
industry
says
a
bed
should
be
six
inches
larger
than
the
person
using
it,
so
even
a
king-size
bed
at
6′6″
(6
feet
and
6
inches)
is
falling
short
for
25%
of
men,
while
the
standard
6′3″
bed
caters
for
less
than
half
of
the
male
population.”
Said
TPCGB
president
Phil
Heinricy,
“seven-foot
beds
would
work
fine.”
Similarly,
restaurant
tables
can
cause
no
end
of
problems.
Small
tables,
which
mean
the
long-legged
have
to
sit
a
foot
or
so
away
from
them,
are
enough
to
make
tall
customers
go
elsewhere.
Some
have
already
taken
note,
however.
At
Queens
Moat
Houses′
Caledoman
Hotel
in
Edinburgh,
6′6″beds
are
now
put
in
as
standard
after
requests
for
longer
beds
from
taller
visitors,
particularly
Americans.
12.
What
is
the
purpose
of
the
TPCGB
campaign?
A.
To
provide
better
services.
B.
To
rebuild
hotels
and
restaurants.
C.
To
draw
public
attention
to
the
needs
of
the
tall.
D.
To
attract
more
people
to
become
its
members.
13.
Which
of
the
following
might
be
a
bed
of
proper
length
according
to
Phil
Heinricy?
A.
7′2″.
B.
7′
C.
6′6″
D.
6′3″
14.
What
may
happen
to
restaurants
with
small
tables?
A.
They
may
lose
some
customers.
B.
They
may
start
businesses
elsewhere.
C.
They
have
to
find
easy
chairs
to
match
the
tables.
D.
They
have
to
provide
enough
space
for
the
long-legged.
15.
What
change
has
already
been
made
in
a
hotel
in
Edinburgh?
A.
Tall
people
pay
more
for
larger
beds.
B.
6′6″beds
have
taken
the
place
of
6′3″beds.
C.
Special
rooms
are
kept
for
Americans.
D.
Guest
rooms
are
standardized.

【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段最后一句中的“Seven--foot
beds
would
work
fine.”可知,床铺的合适长度是7英尺。选B。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据第五段可知,餐桌太小会使高个子的人们到别的地方去(吃饭),也就是说,餐桌太小的饭店会失去一些客人。选A。
【15题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段的句子:At

9.考查副词。句意:此外,它在我们的日常生活中变得越来越重要。修饰后文整个句子,表示“此外”应用副词besides。故Beside改为Besides。
10.考查语态。句意:如果你努力学习,你会成功的。主语you与谓语succeed为主动关系。故删除be。

You

When
I

Dear

C
Shyness
is
the
cause
of
much
unhappiness
for
a
great
many
people.
Shy
people
are
anxious
and
self-conscious;
that
is,
they
are
over
concerned
with
their
own
appearance
and
actions.
Worrisome
thoughts
are
constantly
occurring
in
their
minds;
what
kind
of
impression
am
I
making?
Do
they
like
me?
Do
I
sound
stupid?
Am
I
wearing
unattractive
clothes?
It
is
obvious
that
such
uncomfortable
feelings
must
affect
people
unfavorably.
A
person’s
self-concept
is
reflected
in
the
way
he
or
she
behaves
and
the
way
a
person
think
about
themselves
which
has
a
deep
effect
on
all
areas
of
their
lives.
Shy
people,
who
have
low
self-esteem(自尊),
are
likely
to
be
passive
and
easily
influenced
by
others.
They
need
faith
that
they
are
doing
“the
right
thing”.
Shy
people
are
very
sensitive
to
criticism.
It
makes
them
feel
inferior(自卑).
They
also
find
it
difficult
to
be
pleased
by
praises
because
they
believe
they
are
unworthy
of
praise.
A
shy
person
may
respond
to
a
praise
with
a
statement
like
this
one:
“You’re
just
saying
that
to
make
me
feel
good,
I
know
it’s
not
true.”
It
is
clear
that,
while
self-awareness
is
a
healthy
quality,
overdoing
it
is
harmful.
Can
shyness
be
completely
got
rid
of,
or
at
least
reduced?
Fortunately,
people
can
overcome
shyness
with
determination.
It
is
important
for
people
to
accept
their
weaknesses
as
well
as
their
strengths,
for
example,
not
fair
for
them
to
label
themselves
inferior
because
they
have
to
be
realistic.
Living
on
the
impossible
leads
to
a
sense
of
inadequacy(不适当,不充足).
Each
one
of
us
has
his
or
her
own
characteristics.
We
are
interested
in
our
own
personal
ways.
The
better
we
understand
ourselves,
the
easier
it
becomes
to
live
up
to
our
chances
for
a
rich
and
fulfilling
life.
8.
The
first
paragraph
is
mainly
about
________.
A.
the
thoughts
of
shy
people
B.
the
cause
of
shyness
C.
the
effect
of
shyness
on
people
D.
the
questions
in
the
minds
of
shy
people
9.
According
to
the
writer,
self-awareness
is
________.
A.
harmful
to
people
B.
a
weak
point
of
shy
people
C.
the
cause
of
unhappiness
D.
a
good
characteristics
10.
What
is
the
shy
people’s
reaction
to
praise?
A.
They
are
pleased
by
it
B.
They
feel
it
is
not
true
C.
They
are
very
sensitive
to
it
D.
They
feel
they
are
worthy
of
it
11.
We
can
learn
from
the
passage
that
shyness
can
________.
A.
block
our
chances
for
a
successful
life
B.
help
us
to
live
up
to
our
full
development
C.
enable
us
to
understand
ourselves
better
D.
have
nothing
to
do
with
lack
of
self-esteem
D
While
small
may
be
beautiful,
tall
is
just
plain
uncomfortable
it
seems,
particularly
when
it
comes
to
staying
in
hotels
and
eating
in
restaurants.
The
Tall
Persons
Club
Great
Britain
(TPCGB),
which
was
formed
six
months
ago
to
campaign
for
the
needs
of
the
tall,
has
turned
its
attention
to
hotels
and
restaurants.
Beds
that
are
too
small,
shower
heads
that
are
too
low,
and
restaurant
tables
with
hardly
any
leg-room
all
make
life
difficult
for
those
of
above
average
height,
it
says.
But
it
is
not
just
the
extra-tall
whose
needs
are
not
being
met.
The
average
height
of
the
population
has
been
increasing
yet
the
standard
size
of
beds,
doorways,
and
chairs
has
remained
unchanged.
“The
bedding
industry
says
a
bed
should
be
six
inches
larger
than
the
person
using
it,
so
even
a
king-size
bed
at
6′6″
(6
feet
and
6
inches)
is
falling
short
for
25%
of
men,
while
the
standard
6′3″
bed
caters
for
less
than
half
of
the
male
population.”
Said
TPCGB
president
Phil
Heinricy,
“seven-foot
beds
would
work
fine.”
Similarly,
restaurant
tables
can
cause
no
end
of
problems.
Small
tables,
which
mean
the
long-legged
have
to
sit
a
foot
or
so
away
from
them,
are
enough
to
make
tall
customers
go
elsewhere.
Some
have
already
taken
note,
however.
At
Queens
Moat
Houses′
Caledoman
Hotel
in
Edinburgh,
6′6″beds
are
now
put
in
as
standard
after
requests
for
longer
beds
from
taller
visitors,
particularly
Americans.
12.
What
is
the
purpose
of
the
TPCGB
campaign?
A.
To
provide
better
services.
B.
To
rebuild
hotels
and
restaurants.
C.
To
draw
public
attention
to
the
needs
of
the
tall.
D.
To
attract
more
people
to
become
its
members.
13.
Which
of
the
following
might
be
a
bed
of
proper
length
according
to
Phil
Heinricy?
A.
7′2″.
B.
7′
C.
6′6″
D.
6′3″
14.
What
may
happen
to
restaurants
with
small
tables?
A.
They
may
lose
some
customers.
B.
They
may
start
businesses
elsewhere.
C.
They
have
to
find
easy
chairs
to
match
the
tables.
D.
They
have
to
provide
enough
space
for
the
long-legged.
15.
What
change
has
already
been
made
in
a
hotel
in
Edinburgh?
A.
Tall
people
pay
more
for
larger
beds.
B.
6′6″beds
have
taken
the
place
of
6′3″beds.
C.
Special

Money
Matters
Parents
should
help
children
understand
money.
____16____
So
you
may
start
talking
about
money
when
your
child
shows
an
interest
in
buying
things,
candy
or
toys,
for
example.
1.
The
basic
function
of
money
Begin
explaining
the
basic
function
of
money
by
showing
how
people
trade
money
for
goods
or
services.
It’s
important
to
show
your
child
how
money
is
traded
for
the
thing
he
wants
to
have.
If
he
wants
to
have
a
toy,
give
him
the
money
and
let
him
hand
the
money
to
the
cashier
(收银员).____17____When
your
child
grows
a
bit
older
and
understands
the
basic
function
of
money,
you
can
start
explaining
more
complex
ways
of
using
money.
2.
Money
lessons
Approach
(着手处理)money
lessons
with
openness
and
honesty.
____18____
If
you
must
say
no
to
a
child’s
request
to
spend
money,
explain,
“You
have
enough
toy
trucks
for
now.”
Or,
if
the
request
is
for
many
different
things,
say,
“You
have
to
make
a
choice
between
this
toy
and
that
toy.”
3.
___19___
Begin
at
the
grocery
store.
Pick
out
two
similar
brands
of
a
product

a
name-brand
butter
and
a
generic
(无商标产品),
for
example.
You
can
show
your
child
how
to
make
choices
between
different
brands
of
a
product
so
that
you
can
save
money.
____20____
If
he
chooses
the
cheaper
brand,
allow
him
to
buy
other
things
with
the
money
saved.
Later,
you
may
explain
how
the
more
expensive
choice
leaves
less
money
for
other
purchases.
A.
Wise
decisions
B.
The
value
of
money
C.
Permit
the
child
to
choose
between
them.
D.
Tell
your
child
why
he
can—or
cannot—have
certain
things.
E.
Ask
yourself
what
things
that
cost
money
are
most
important
to
you.
F.
Talk
about
how
the
money
bought
the
thing
after
you
leave
the
toy
store.
G.
The
best
time
to
teach
a

anything
about
money
is
when
he
shows
an
interest.
