UPS(联合包裹)
driver
Ryan
Arens
was
making
his
rounds
near
a
pond
in
Bozeman,Montana,when
he
heard
an
unearthly
sound.“Like
a
cry
for
help,”
he
told
the
Dodo.It
was
December
2019,and
about
15
feet
from
the
frozen
banks
was
the
source
of
that
cry—a
half-submerged
brown-and-white
wirehaired
hound(猎犬),struggling
to
hold
to
a
thin
layer
of
ice.No
one
knows
how
she
got
there,but
an
elderly
man
was
already
on
the
scene.He
had
entered
the
pond
in
a
rowboat
and
knocked
at
the
ice
with
a
rock
to
create
a
path
to
the
dog.It
was
slow
going,and
Arens,44,thought
he
stood
a
better
chance.
“Animals
are
my
weakness,”
he
told
the
GreatFallsTribune,explaining
why
he
stripped(拆开)
down
to
his
boxers
and
socks,even
though
the
temperature
was
freezing
cold,and
commandeered
the
rowboat.
His
heart
thumping,Arens
slid
closer
to
the
dog
and
used
the
other
man’s
rock
to
smash
away
at
the
ice.He
gave
one
strong
knock
and
slipped
off
the
boat,crashing
into
16
feet
of
freezing
water.
He
resurfaced
in
time
to
see
the
dog
going
under.Using
nervous
energy
to
keep
warm,he
swam
about
five
feet
toward
her,grabbed
hold
of
her
collar,and
pulled
her
to
the
ice.He
then
lift
the
dog
into
the
boat
and
slid
it
back
to
the
shore,where
anxious
bystanders
carried
the
dog
to
the
home
of
the
rowboat
owner,a
retired
veterinarian.Once
in
the
house
himself,Arens
jumped
into
a
warm
shower
with
the
dog
until
they
both
defrosted(解冻).A
few
more
minutes
in
the
pond,the
vet
told
Arens,the
dog
would
have
likely
suffered
cardiac
arrest(心脏骤停).
The
next
day,Arens
was
back
working
the
same
neighbourhood
when
the
dog’s
owner
came
over
to
thank
him
for
saving
Sadie.“Would
you
like
to
meet
her?”
he
asked.
He
opened
the
door
to
his
pickup(皮卡),and
Sadie
rushed
out.She
made
a
beeline
for
Arens,leaping
on
him
and
bathing
him
in
wet
kisses.“That
special
delivery,”
said
Arens,“was
the
highlight
of
my
UPS
career.”

I
first
began
experiencing
anxiety
and
depression
at
the
age
of
14
after
being
bullied(欺凌)
at
school
for
years.While
at
first
anxiety
and
depression
would
come
and
go,it
eventually
became
a
constant
part
of
my
life.
I
was
so
eager
to
find
the
solution
to
overcoming
my
anxiety
and
depression
that
I
tried
everything
from
when
I
was
in
college
to
graduate
school:mood-changing
medication,special
teas,yoga,anything
I
read
about
in
books,and
advice
given
by
doctors.Despite
this,I
still
felt
I
hadn’t
even
come
close
to
managing
the
problem.
But
one
afternoon,my
eyes
fell
upon
an
article
in
a
magazine
I
was
reading
that
talked
about
how
dogs
were
able
to
help
people
with
anxiety
and
depression.The
very
next
day,I
decided
to
get
a
dog—a
corgi(柯基犬).When
I
brought
my
little
corgi,Buddy,home,I
didn’t
realise
how
much
he
would
change
my
life.It
didn’t
happen
right
away,however.
Once
the
“puppy
excitement”
went
away,my
anxiety
and
depression
came
back
as
usual.One
morning,I
woke
up
with
those
familiar
feelings
again.I
didn’t
want
to
get
out
of
bed.I
turned
to
pull
the
covers
back
over
my
head
and
gave
up.That’s
when
I
saw
Buddy.
Buddy
started
jumping
all
over
me,licking
my
face,letting
me
know
that
it
was
time
to
go
outside.It
was
as
if
he
was
saying,“There’s
no
time
to
be
sad;the
world
is
amazing!”
And
for
the
first
time
in
my
life,my
life
was
changing.I
really
was
a
new
person.This
was
my
new
beginning.
It’s
been
more
than
a
year
since
that
day,and
I’ve
never
spent
another
morning
unable
to
get
out
of
bed.I’ve
not
cried
myself
to
sleep
or
spent
my
days
stuck
with
fear
and
regret.Sure,I
still
have
days
when
I
feel
sad
or
anxious.But
with
Buddy,my
best
friend,by
my
side,I’ve
finally
learned
how
to
manage
these
feelings
and
emotions.

D
It
was
May
23,2016.Arnot,the
32-year-old
mountain
guide,reached
the
top
of
Qomolangma
without
the
use
of
oxygen
(O2)
equipment.It
was
achieved
after
seven
years,three
previous
attempts,and
fourteen
straight
hours
of
climbing.
After
15
minutes
at
the
top,Arnot
began
her
descent(下坡).Eight
hours
later,she
reached
the
camp
at
7,600
metres
and
became
the
first
American
woman—and
only
the
seventh
woman
ever—to
successfully
reach
Mount
Qomolangma
without
oxygen
equipment.
“There
are
so
many
reasons
for
her
impressive
achievement,especially
the
physical
and
emotional
efforts
that
she
has
put
forth
over
the
years
to
make
this
happen,”
says
the
professional
climber
and
photographer
Richards.“The
mental
courage
that
it
requires
is
something
very
few
people
have.”
Arnot
didn’t
start
climbing
until
she
was
19
years
old.Money
was
tight
in
her
family,and
climbing
mountains
never
occurred
in
her
mind.After
graduating
from
college,Arnot
was
invited
by
her
friend
to
climb
a
mountain.“It
totally
changed
my
life,”
says
Arnot.“I
always
know
that
if
you
want
something,you
can
achieve
it,but
knowing
what
you
want
is
a
whole
different
thing,”
she
says.“I
am
athletic
but
not
competitive.After
my
first
climbing,I
knew
immediately
that
mountains
are
what
I
want—as
that
is
where
I
felt
home
for
the
first
time
in
my
life.”
After
that
first
climb,she
devoted
herself
to
learning
how
to
climb
and
move
through
mountain.It
was
during
her
second
trip
to
Qomolangma
in
2009
that
she
first
set
her
sights
on
a
no-oxygen
attempt.However,while
hiking
into
Qomolangma
Base
Camp
that
year,she
hurt
her
leg
and
wasn’t
able
to
climb
without
oxygen.In
2013
she
nearly
made
it
to
the
top,but
was
forced
to
take
oxygen
at
8,504
metres
while
helping
another
climber.
When
Arnot
finally
stood
atop
Qomolangma,she
called
her
best
friend,“I
reached
the
top
and
I’m
not
using
any
oxygen.”
Then,tears
began
to
stream
down
from
her
eyes.So
much
of
Arnot’s
life
has
been
about
pushing
the
limits
of
her
abilities,and
in
this
case,she
has
also
pushed
up
against
the
outer
limits
of
the
human
spirit.

One
of
the
most

quotes(名言)
I

heard
was
by
Brian
Tracy.He
said,“The

I
deeply
understood
the
wisdom

after
my

I

then
told
me,“I

Despite
the

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
TheJungleAdventuresofEduardoandMe
For
the
first
time,I
came
in
contact
with
one
of
the
cutest
animals
I
had
seen
in
all
my
years
of
adventuring
through
the
jungle,an
orangutan(猩猩).
To
be
honest,I
thought
wild
animals
would
be
more
frightened
of
humans
than
this
little
creature
was.
The
following
morning
I
woke
up
in
surprise
because
I
felt
something
getting
dropped
on
my
face.As
I
opened
my
eyes
and
looked
around,I
saw
the
orangutan
in
the
same
position
as
it
was
last
night.The
only
difference
was
that
it
was
eating
some
type
of
fruit.After
I
had
watched
its
behaviours
for
a
short
time,I
realised
that
when
it
had
done
eating,it
would
drop
the
peel
of
the
fruit
on
me.Never
did
I
imagine
that
the
animal
would
still
be
here.
I
began
to
pack
up
my
gear
so
I
could
head
out
of
the
jungle
while
it
was
still
light
out.I
also
figured
that
if
the
orangutan
was
going
to
stick
with
me
while
I
found
my
way
out,I
might
as
well
give
it
a
name.I
took
one
hard
look
at
it
and
the
name
Eduardo
popped
in
my
head.
“You
look
like
an
Eduardo,so
that’s
what
I
am
going
to
call
you,”
I
said
to
it.After
named
him,Eduardo
looked
up
at
me
and
smiled
a
full-toothed
smile
that
I
had
never
seen
any
animal
make
before.
My
bag
was
packed,and,as
I
was
about
to
set
on,Eduardo
latched
onto
my
legs
once
again,thinking
that
I
was
going
to
leave
him
behind.“Come
on,little
guy.I
guess
you
are
coming
with
me,”
I
told
him
as
we
started
to
walk.Eduardo
unlatched
himself
from
me,climbed
up
the
trees,and
started
to
swing
from
the
vines
in
front
of
me.“Huh,”
I
thought.“It’s
like
he’s
leading
the
way
for
me.”
I
put
my
trust
in
this
little
creature
and
followed
the
directions
it
was
giving
me
for
a
good
hour.
A
little
while
later,I
came
to
a
complete
stop
when
I
realised
that
Eduardo
had
stopped.Being
right
in
front
of
us
was
a
not-so-nice
looking
tiger.Eduardo
had
stopped
in
the
middle
of
hanging
from
a
branch
when
he
realised
that
the
vicious
animal
was
lying
in
my
path.

This

great.How
was
I
supposed
to
get
past
this
thing
without
it
seeing
me??
?

?
I
reached
up
and
gave
him
a
hug
and
said,“You,my
friend,are
a
life
saver.”?

(Text1)
W:Do
you
take
a
bus
to
work
every
day?
M:No,it’s
too
far
away
from
my
office,so
I
drive
to
work.
(Text2)
W:Wow,it
certainly
is
a
bad
day.
M:Yeah,I’m
really
fed
up
with
this
kind
of
weather.
W:Well,there
was
only
a
little
rain
when
I
got
up
at
7,but
this
is
too
much!
(Text3)
M:Would
you
turn
off
the
alarm
clock?
W:Dear,but
you
said
you
had
a
meeting

forgot.
(Text4)
W:Look
at
this
photo.Do
you
like
it?
M:Yes.The
scenery
is
beautiful
with
so
red
flowers,but
I
don’t
like
the
girl
in
the
picture.She
wears
strange
blue
clothes
and
has
dyed
her
hair
orange.
(Text5)
W:Do
you
have
any
hobbies,Michael?
M:I’m
interested
in
climbing
mountains
and
I
like

in
your

fond
of
collecting

to
sit,Sir?
M:A
window
seat
if
possible.And
I
forgot
to
ask
before.Could
I
order
a
vegetarian
meal,please?
W:One
vegetarian
meal.OK,no
problem.Have
a
good
flight,Sir.
(Text7)
M:Coach?Why
did
you
take
me
out?I
want
to
play,and
we’re
winning
the
game
because
of
me.
W:Yes,you
are
playing
well.However,you
need
to
pass
the
ball
more.The
other
players
need
to
have
a
chance
as
well,you
know.
M:But
my
mother
is
watching,and
I
want
to
show
her
how
good
a
player
I
am.
W:There
are
many
parents
in
this
gym,and
they
all
want
to
see
their
children
do
well.
M:Yeah,but
isn’t
the
point
of
the
game
to
win?
W:This
is
a
team
game,George.You
can’t
win
by
yourself.
(Text8)
W:Hey,Mike!I
just
joined
the
Spanish
club!I’m
excited
to
be
a
part
of
it.Aren’t
you
a
member?
M:Yeah,I
am.We
have
a
lot
of
members,and
we
organise
a
lot
of
fun
events.Why
did
you
decide
to
join?
W:Well,it
looks
good
on
my
university
applications
to
participate
in
after-school
activities.Also,I’m
really
interested
in
Spanish
culture.
M:Cool.Well,we
learn
a
lot
about
Spanish
culture
in
the
club.We
go
to
Spanish
restaurants
together
and
watch
movies
in
Spanish.We
even
learn
to
cook
Spanish
dishes
ourselves
and
bring
them
to
school
to
share.
W:Wow,that
all
sounds
like
so
much
fun!I
can’t
wait
to
participate.
(Text9)
W:Our

has
been
delayed
for
about
two
hours
because
of
the
fog.My
parents
will
be
waiting
anxiously
at
the
Seattle
Airport.
M:You’d
better
make
a
phone
call
to
them
and
tell
them
about
the
situation
here.
W:That’s
quite
right.What
are
you
here
for?
M:I
am
here
for
an
international
medical
conference
in
Sydney.
W:How
interesting!I
am
here
for
sightseeing.
M:Really?How
do
you
like
it?
W:Sydney
deserves
to
be
the
capital
of
the
country.I
also
visited
Melbourne,Perth
and
Townsville.These
trips
are
among
the
best
that
I’ve
ever
enjoyed.Is
this
your
first
trip
to
Australia?
M:No.I
come
here
every
year
but
always
on
business,so
I
have
no
chance
to
go
sightseeing
here.
W:What
a
pity!If
you
have
a
chance,be
sure
to
visit
some
places.It
will
be
fantastic.
M:All
right.I
try
to
seek
an
opportunity
to
hang
about
here.
