阅读下面短文,掌握其大意,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
Perhaps
the
most
interesting
person
I
have
ever
met
is
an
Italian
professor
of
philosophy
who
teaches
at
the
University
of
Pisa.
___21___
I
last
met
this
man
eight
years
ago,
I
have
not
forgotten
his
special
qualities.
First
of
all,
I
respected
his
___22___
to
teaching.
Because
his
lectures
were
always
well-prepared
and
clearly
___23___,
students
crowded
into
his
classroom.
His
followers
liked
the
fact
that
he
believed
in
what
he
taught.
Furthermore,
he
could
be
counted
on
to
explain
his
ideas
in
an
___24___
way,
introducing
such
aids
to
understanding
as
oil
paintings,
music,
and
guest
lecturers.
Once
he
___25___
sang
a
song
in
class
in
order
to
make
a
point
clear.
Secondly,
I
admired
the
fact
that
he
would
talk
to
students
outside
the
classroom
or
talk
with
them
___26___
the
telephone.
Drinking
coffee
in
the
cafe,
he
would
easily
make
friends
with
students.
Sometimes
he
would
___27___
a
student
to
a
game
of
chess.
Other
times,
he
would
join
students
groups
to
discuss
a
variety
of
___28___:
agriculture,
diving
and
mathematics.
Many
young
people
visited
him
in
his
office
for
___29___
on
their
studies;
others
came
to
his
home
for
social
evenings.
Finally,
I
was
attracted
by
his
lively
sense
of
humor.
He
believed
that
no
lesson
is
a
success
___30___,
during
it,
the
students
and
the
professor
___31___
at
least
one
loud
laugh.
Through
his
sense
of
humor,
he
made
learning
more
___32___
and
more
lasting.
If
it
is
true
that
life
makes
a
wise
man
smile
and
a
foolish
man
cry,
then
my
friend
is
indeed
a
wise
man.

语法填空(共10小题;每小题1分,
共10分)
阅读下列短文。根据短文内容填空,在未给提示词的空白处仅填写
1个适当的单词,在给出提示词的空白处用括号内所给词的正确形式填空。
A
Gaining
knowledge
is
a
part
of
the
learning
process
and
how
__33__
(put)
knowledge
gained
every
day
into
reality
has
interested
many
people.
As
a
proverb
goes,
“Knowledge
is
a
treasure,
but
practice
is
the
key
to
it.”
Obviously,
this
saying
tries
to
deliver
the
message
that
we
ought
not
to
stop
__34__
(practice)
it
if
we
truly
want
to
master
the
knowledge
we
learn.
There
are
several
reasons
accounting
for
the
statement.
For
one
thing,
human
beings
are
forgetful
beings,
and
for
another,
knowledge
has
become
more
and
more
complicated
and
it
can’t
be
understood
if
we
do
not
practice
__35__
we
have
learned
repeatedly.
B
Most
of
us
assume
that
we
communicate
__36__
(good)
with
our
friends
and
loved
ones
than
we
do
with
strangers.
However,
__37__
is
often
the
case
that
the
closer
we
are
to
somebody,
the
less
likely
we
are
to
listen
carefully
to
them.
The
reason
__38__
many
people
unconsciously
“tune
out”
their
family
members
or
close
friends
is
that
they
think
they
already
know
what
the
other
person
is
going
to
say.
It
is
similar
__39__
the
way
in
which
you
might
not
notice
signs,
landmarks,
or
scenery
on
a
path
you
have
travelled
down
numerous
times.
C
Like
many
major
events,
a
marathon
can
generate
a
massive
carbon
footprint.
Thousands
travel
-
some
by
plane
-
to
the
location.
Waste
from
food
packaging
and
goody
bags
gets
__40__
(leave)
behind
by
spectators
and
runners.
For
example,
during
the
London
Marathon
in
2018,
47,000
plastic
bottles
__41__
(collect),
although
some
were
recycled.
This
is
becoming
a
big
issue
for
cities

how
to
host
a
worthwhile
event,
encouraging
people
to
exercise
and
help
charities,
whilst
protecting
the
environment?
Over
the
last
few
years,
several
cities
__42__
(develop)
formal
plans
to
reduce
their
environmental
impact
and
promote
sustainable
ideas.
One
event
in
Wales,
for
example,
introduced
recycling
for
old
running
kit
and
ethically
sourced
the
race
T-shirts.
第三部分:阅读理解(共三节,共42分)
第一节(共11小题;每小题2分,共22分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
Every
year,
Earth
Day
is
celebrated
on
April
22,
and
people
all
around
the
world
celebrate
this
day
by
taking
part
in
environmental
awareness
activities
and
working
towards
raising
awareness
about
important
issues
that
our
planet
Earth
is
currently
facing,
like
global
warming
and
pollution.
Before
the
1970s,
there
were
almost
no
environmental
laws
and
industries
were
allowed
to
dump
their
industrial
waste
and
fumes
anywhere
in
the
world.
A
US
Senator
by
the
name
of
Gaylord
Nelson
was
concerned
by
the
growing
levels
of
pollution.
So
in
the
spring
of
1970,
Senator
Nelson
created
Earth
Day
as
a
way
to
promote
awareness
about
these
issues
in
the
US.
His
plan
was
successful,
as
20
million
Americans
started
a
march
for
Earth
Day
around
the
world.
As
a
result,
the
US
government
started
an
agency
called
the
U.S.
Environmental
Protection
Agency.
Over
the
next
few
years,
the
movement
spread
across
the
world
and
Earth
Day
became
internationally
recognised.
The
theme
of
Earth
Day
2021
is
“restore
our
Earth”.
The
focus
of
this
year’s
theme
is
restoring
Earth’s
natural
processes
and
ecosystems.
Apart
from
that,
the
goal
of
this
year’s
Earth
Day
is
to
focus
on
taking
green
technologies
and
creative
actions
to
restore
the
Earth’s
natural
ecosystem.
More
than
stopping
pollution
and
global
warming,
this
year’s
Earth
Day
focuses
on
reversing
the
damage
caused
to
the
Earth.
Despite
strict
environmental
laws
in
many
countries
across
the
world,
problems
such
as
global
warming,
air
pollution
and
climate
change
continue
to
threaten
our
planet.
Many
scientists
around
the
world
are
warning
us
about
the
already
irreversible(不可逆的)
problems
that
have
been
created
by
microplastics,
oil
spills
and
depletion(消耗)
of
the
ozone
layer.
If
the
human
race
continues
on
the
same
path
as
before,
the
extinction
of
the
human
race
is
not
too
far
off
in
the
future.
Earth
Day
seeks
to
help
raise
people’s
awareness
around
the
world
about
these
issues
and
bring
positive
changes,
so
future
generations
stand
a
chance
of
living
a
safer
life.
43.
What
is
the
theme
of
this
year’s
Earth
Day?
A.
To
slow
down
global
warming.
B.
To
reduce
individuals’
carbon
footprint.
C.
To
promote
the
development
of
emerging
industries.
D.
To
restore
the
Earth’s
natural
processes
and
ecosystems.
44.
Which
activity
is
suitable
to
celebrate
Earth
Day?
A.
Running
long-distance
races.
B.
Starting
a
movement
on
recycling.
C.
Attending
a
lecture
about
human
rights.
D.
Participating
in
medical
research
on
cancers.
45.
Which
of
the
following
can
be
the
best
title
for
the
text?
A.
Establishing
a

Role-Playing
in
Child
Development
Playing
is
a
key
component
in
the
learning
process
for
virtually
all
of
the
children.
There
are
various
ways
in
which
children
play,
but
one
of
the
most
important
is
role-playing.
This
involves
a
child
engaging
in
an
activity
during
which
he
or
she
pretends
to
be
another
person.
Experts
on
child
development
believe
that
role-playing
can
increase
the
connections
in
children’s
brains
that
help
them
learn.
Language
skills
are
some
of
the
most
important
aspects
of
learning.
When
children
role-play,
they
must
work
out
steps
that
need
to
be
taken
to
complete
a
task,
and
create
plans
to
act
out
a
story.
These
activities
enable
children
to
develop
their
oral
language
skills.
They
become
able
to
organize
others
and
to
give
directions.
Children’s
social
skills
can
also
be
developed.
When
engaged
in
group
activities,
children
have
different
roles.
Some
are
leaders
while
others
are
followers.
At
times,
the
children
will
disagree,
so
they
must
learn
to
negotiate
and
compromise
with
one
another,
and
they
must
learn
to
apologize
when
they
have
strong
arguments
or
disagreements
as
well.
Children
further
learn
about
cooperation
and
sharing
and,
hopefully,
begin
to
understand
things
from
another
person’s
point
of
view.
Besides
helping
children
learn
some
kinds
of
skills,
role-playing
fosters
children’s
imaginations
and
can
therefore
assume
a
number
of
forms.
For
example,
boys
may
pretend
to
shave
like
their
fathers
or
perform
various
tasks
around
their
homes.
Girls,
meanwhile,
often
pretend
to
be
mothers
to
do
some
daily
tasks,
particularly
if
it
involves
caring
for
young
babies.
Sometimes
children
may
imagine
belonging
to
a
group
of
superheroes
or
imitate
(模仿)
real-life
situations.
They
might
dress
up
and
assume
different
roles.
Another
example
is
the
performing
of
stories
they
read
in
books,
which
is
also
very
common
when
they
role-play.
Another
beneficial
aspect
of
role-playing
is
that
it
can
help
children
deal
with
certain
actions
that
may
cause
them
emotional
pain,
such
as
the
fear
they
face
when
going
to
school
for
the
first
time
or
making
a
visit
to
the
doctor.
If
children
role-play
situations
like
these
beforehand,
the
fear
that
they
experience
when
doing
these
actions
in
reality
frequently
lessens.
For
this
reason,
experts
encourage
parents
to
allow
their
children
to
role-play
and
even
to
take
part
in
these
activities
to
help
their
children
master
their
fears.
Role-playing
can
benefit
children
in
many
ways.
There
is
no
activity
for
which
young
children
are
better
prepared
than
fantasy
play.
Nothing
is
more
dependable
and
risk-free,
and
the
dangers
are
only
pretend.
46.
From
the
author’s
description
in
Paragraph
4,
we
learn
that
children
often
______.
A.
involve
daily-life
activities
in
groups
B.
act
out
the
activities
that
their
parents
do
C.
perform
daily
tasks
instead
of
their
parents
D.
change
real-life
situations
when
role-playing
47.
The
author
believes
that
role-playing
may
help
children
______.
A.
develop
a
better
awareness
of
grammar
B.
receive
benefits
from
their
emotional
pain
C.
improve
creativity
by
using
their
imaginations
D.
understand
how
to
be
both
leaders
and
followers
48.
The

word
“master”
in
Paragraph

probably
means
______.
A.

C
I

I

not

I
use
every
free
moment
to
accomplish
one
of
the
tasks
on
my
never-ending
checklist,
and
I
am
completely
filled
with
thoughts
of
productivity.
An
hour

is
an
hour
wasted.
And
like
the
rest
of
21st
century
America,
I
like
it.
But
this
fixation
on
productivity
is
increasingly
destroying
character
and
transforming
men
into
robots.
New
York
Times
columnist
David
Brooks
warned
American
University
students
of
this
cultural
decline
in
a
speech.
“We
cut
off
all
things
spiritual
and
emotional
in
a
competitive
urge
to
stand
out”,
he
said,
“The
pressure
to
succeed
professionally,
to
acquire
skills,
to
do
the
things
you
need
to
do
to
succeed
in
an
information
age
economy
really
became
the
overwhelming(难以应付的)pressures,
and
it
sort
of
weakens
the
thinking
about
character
and
morality.”
Many
students
happily
go
to
college,
viewing
it
as
a
next
step
on
their
rise
to
professional
achievement.
Forcing
as
many
success-building
activities
into
their
schedules
as
they
can,
they
enjoy
keeping
busy
with
little
sleep.
“Today’s

Brooks
wrote
in
an
article,
“We
fear
failure
more
than
we
desire
success.”
A
century
ago,
college
was
about
character
building.
Today,
our
characters
are
in
decline.
We
are
experts
on
economics,
material
things
and
professional
skills.
We
fail
to
discuss
and
understand
relationships,
emotions
and
all
things
spiritual.
Philosopher
Karl
Popper
divided
the
world
into
two
categories:
Clocks
and
Clouds.
Clock
problems
are
those
that
can
be
taken
apart,
examined
and
solved
through
deductive
reasoning(演绎推理).
Clouds
cannot
be
taken
apart.
Cloud
problems
represent
whole
systems
that
need
to
be
understood
in
a
different
way.
“When
we
have
a
Cloud
problem,
we
try
to
turn
it
into
a
Clock
problem,”
Brooks
said.
And
in
a
reason-centered
culture,
adding
titles
to
one’s
resume
becomes
a
trend.
At
American
University,
85
percent
of
seniors
(and
89
percent
of
business
majors)
graduate
with
at
least
one
practical
experience
which
is
often
helpful
to
a
student’s
future
career,
but
can
sometimes
draw
focus
away
from
academics.
To
prevent
the
death
of
man’s
character,
Brooks
urges
rediscovering
our
human
natures
through
falling
in
love.
And
by
love
he
means
love
for
a
task,
job,
or
another
person.
“Synchronicity
is
key
to
happiness,”
he
said.
Rather
than
crazily
increasing
our
long
lists
of
accomplishments,
we
need
to
lose
ourselves
in
what
we
do,
and
success
will
come
on
its
own.

Bad
News
for
the
Highly
Intelligent
There
are
advantages
to
being
smart.
People
who
do
well
on
IQ
tests
tend
to
be
more
successful
in
the
classroom
and
the
workplace.
They
also
tend
to
live
longer,
healthier
lives,
and
are
less
likely
to
experience
negative
life
events.
54
In
a
study,
Ruth
Karpinski
and
her
colleagues
carried
out
a
study
on
the
members
of
Mensa,
a
high
IQ
society.
The
study
covered
mood
disorders
and
anxiety
disorders.
Respondents
were
asked
to
report
whether
they
had
ever
suffered
from
each
disorder.
The
researchers
compared
the
percentage
of
those
who
reported
disorder
to
the
national
average
and
found
that
Mensa’s
highly
intelligent
members
were
more
likely
to
suffer
from
a
range
of
serious
disorders.
To
explain
their
findings,
Karpinski
and
his
team
bring
up
the
hyper
brain
and
hyper
body
theory.
This
theory
holds
that,
for
all
of
its
advantages,
being
highly
intelligent
is
associated
with
psychological
and
physiological
“overexcitabilities”,
or
OE.
55
This
can
include
anything
from
an
astonishing
sound
to
conflict
with
another
person.
According
to
the
theory,
OEs
are
more
common
in
highly
intelligent
people.
A
highly
intelligent
person
may
overanalyze
a
disapproving
comment
made
by
a
boss,
imagining
negative
outcomes
that
simply
wouldn’t
occur
to
someone
less
intelligent.
56
The
results
of
this
study
must
be
interpreted
cautiously.
Showing
that
a
disorder
is
more
common
in
a
sample
of
people
with
high
IQs
than
in
the
general
population
doesn’t
prove
that
high
intelligence
is
the
cause
of
the
disorder.
57
All
the
same,
the
findings
set
the
stage
for
research
that
promises
to
cast
new
light
on
the
link
between
intelligence
and
health.
One
possibility
is
that
associations
between
intelligence
and
health
outcomes
reflect
pleiotropy
(基因多效性),
which
occurs
when
a
gene
(基因)
influences
seemingly
unrelated
characteristics.
58
In
a
2015
study,
Rosalind
Arden
and
her
colleagues
concluded
that
the
association
between
IQ
and
living
longer
is
mostly
explained
by
genetic
factors.
From
a
practical
standpoint,
this
research
may
lead
to
insights
about
how
to
improve
people’s
psychological
and
physical
well-being.
A.
Now
there’s
some
bad
news
for
those
smart
people.
B.
There
is
already
some
evidence
to
suggest
that
this
is
the
case.
C.
It
is
an
unusually
strong
reaction
to
an
environmental
threat
or
abuse.
D.
Scientists
did
many
researches
to
understand
the
reasons
behind
the
advantages.
E.
That
may
cause
the
body’s
stress
response,
which
may
make
the
person
even
more
anxious.
F.
It’s
also
possible
that
people
who
join
Mensa
differ
from
other
people
in
ways
other
than
just
IQ.
G.
They
found
that
the
differences
between
the
respondents
were
seen
for
mood
and
anxiety
disorders.

阅读短文,回答问题。
Cleaning
the
ocean
of
plastic
These
days,
we’re
all
well
aware
of
the
plastic
problem
the
world’s
facing.
Although
we
all
realize
what
a
serious
issue
plastic
pollution
is,
it’s
different
when
you
actually
see
the
overwhelming
results
of
it
for
yourself.
A
team
of
researchers
recently
published
a
study
on
the
so-called
Great
Pacific
Garbage
Patch
in
the
journal
Scientific
Reports.
According
to
the
study,
the
patch,
which
is
located
off
the
coast
of
California
in
the
US,
is
made
up
of
79,000
tons
of
plastic
waste.
At
1.6
million
square
kilometers,
it’s
over
four
times
the
size
of
Japan,
or
almost
100
times
the
size
of
Beijing.
“I’ve
been
doing
this
research
for
a
while,
but
it
was
depressing
to
see
the
patch
in
person,”
Laurent
Lebreton,
lead
author
of
the
study,
told
The
Guardian.
“There
were
things
you
just
wondered
how
they
made
it
into
the
ocean.
There’s
clearly
an
increasing
influx
of
plastic
into
the
garbage
patch.”
It’s
believed
that
eight
million
tons
of
plastic
ends
up
in
the
sea
each
year,
and
a
lot
of
it
ends
up
collecting
near
large
ocean
currents
around
the
world,
forming
“islands”
of
plastic.
This
causes
problems
not
only
for
sea
creatures,
but
also
for
humans.
The
swirling
ocean
currents
eventually
break
down
some
of
the
plastic,
with
a
lot
of
it
ending
up
in
the
stomachs
of
fish
and
birds.
As
a
result,
it’s
believed
that
plastic
has
worked
its
way
up
the
food
chain
directly
onto
our
plates
-
not
to
mention
the
countless
creatures
that
choke
on
plastic
waste,
or
are
poisoned
by
the
chemicals
in
it.
So
what
can
we
do
about
this?
Lebreton
is
a
member
of
the
Ocean
Cleanup
Foundation,
a
group
that’s
developed
technology
to
collect
plastic
waste
from
the
ocean.
This
is
a
huge
project.
The
group
claims
it
will
take
around
five
years
just
to
clean
up
half
of
the
Great
Pacific
Garbage
Patch
alone.
But
rather
than
discourage
people
from
using
plastic
altogether,
Lebreton
believes
that
we
should
simply
be
more
careful
of
how
we
use
it.
“In
my
opinion,
plastic
is
very
useful
...
But
I
think
we
must
change
the
way
we
use
plastic,
particularly
in
terms
of
single-use
plastic
and
those
objects
that
have
a
very
short
service
lifespan,”
he
told
the
BBC.
1.
What
is
the
Great
Pacific
Garbage
Patch
made
up
of?
2.
Why
does
plastic
also
cause
problems
for
humans?
3.
Please
paraphrase
the
following
sentence.
It’s
believed
that
the
eight
million
tons
of
plastic
ends
up
in
the
sea
each
year,
and
a
lot
of
it
ends
up
collecting
near
large
ocean
currents
around
world,
forming
“islands”
of
plastic.
4.
Please
decide
which
part
is
false
in
the
following
statement,
then
underline
it
and
explain
why.
Laurent
Lebreton
thinks
that
plastic
is
very
useful,
but
we
have
to
stop
using
plastic
completely
to
protect
the
ocean.
5.
Please
provide
at
least
two
suggestions
on
what
we
can
do
to
change
the
way
we
use
plastic.
