Ellie
was
a
skilled
gymnast(体操运动员).
But
she
liked
showing
off(炫耀)).
At
the
gymnastics
tryout(选拔赛),
she
put
on
a
perfect
performance.
"See
who
can
do
that!
"
she
said
proudly.
The
next
Friday,
the
list
was
posted
announcing
who
had
made
the
team.
Ellie's
name
wasn't
on
it.
"It's
unfair.
I'm
better
than
all
the
other
girls!
"
she
said.
She
went
to
see
the
coach.
"You
are
quite
talented,
but
your
attitude
is
terrible,
"
the
coach
said.
"Making

It's

about
being

a
team.
"
That
night
Ellie

her

her
father
said
that
the

a
point.
They
had
a
big
argument.
Ellie
couldn't
sleep.
She

Ellie
suggested
and
improved.
Ellie

this
without
Ellie's
help,
"
the
girls
said.
The
following
year,
Ellie
tried
out
for
the
gymnastics
team
again.
This
time,
she
was
modest.
When
the
girls
praised
her,
she
just
smiled
and
thanked
them.
When
the
coach
posted
the
list
of
who

Teenagers
who
start
the
school
day
really
early
are
likely
to
weigh
slightly
more
than
those
who
start
later.
That's
the
finding
of
a
new
study
of
nearly
30,000
Canadians
between
the
ages
of
10
and
18.
Getting
too
little
sleep
can
put
kids
at
risk
for
a
number
of
problems.
Sleepy
teens
are
more
likely
to
be
overweight,
to
have
trouble
concentrating
and
to
struggle
in
school.
Geneviève
Gariépy,
who
works
at
McGil
University
in
Montreal,
Canada,
wanted
to
know
how
earlier
school
start
times
might
be
connected
with
weight.
"Overweight
in
teenagers
is
a
big
problem
in
North
America,
"
she
says.
The
number
of
overweight
kids
has
grown
over
the
past
30
years.
About
one
in
three
American
and
Canadian
teens
are
now
overweight.
Kids
who
don't
sleep
enough
may
be
at
higher
risk.
So
Gariépy
decided
to
home
in
on
the
effect
of
school
start
times.
Her
team
collected
start
times
for
362
Canadian
schools.
Then
they
asked
students
at
those
schools
to
give
their
height
and
weight.
In
all,
they
collected
data
from
nearly
30,000
10-to
18-year-olds.
Among
6th-to
10th-graders,
those
who
started
school
earlier
were
likely
to
be
slightly
heavier
for
their
height.
Every
10-minute
delay(延迟)in
school
start
time
was
connected,
on
average,
with
a
slightly
lower
weight
among
students
who
were
the
same
sex
(性别),
age
and
height.
However,
the
difference
is
slight.
Healthy
eating
and
getting
enough
exercise
will
play
a
bigger
role
in
keeping
a
healthy
weight.
Because
the
study
compared
kids
who
already
started
school
at
different
times
of
day,
it's
not
clear
that
changing
school
start
time
would
help
heavier
kids
lose
weight.
To
know
for
sure,
researchers
would
want
to
compare
the
same
kids
before
and
after
changing
to
a
later
school
start
time.
Still,
the
study
is
a
good
start,
says
Cora
Collette
Bruener,
a
doctor
at
Seattle
Children's
Hospital
in
Washington.
The
findings
add
to
a
growing
pile(累)of
evidence
that
later
school
start
times
might
be
better
for
teen
health,
she
says.
28.
What
is
the
finding
of
the
new
study?
A.
More
and
more
teens
are
growing
overweight.
B.
Healthy
diets
and
enough
exercise
help
reduce
weight.
C.
Teens
who
start
school
earlier
are
a
little
overweight.
D.
Teens
who
start
school
earlier
do
not
perform
well.
29.
What
does
the
underlined
phrase
"home
in
on"
in
paragraph
2
probably
mean?
A.
deal
with.
B.
focus
attention
on.
C.
bring
down.
D.
watch
out
for.
30.
How
did
Gariépy's
team
get
their
findings?
A.
By
recording
the
teens'
weight.
B.
By
checking
the
teens'
physical
health.
C.
By
comparing
different
sets
of
number.
D.
By
measuring
the
teens'
height.
31.
What
does
Cora
Collette
Bruener
think
of
the
study?
A.
It
has
inspiring
value.
B.
It
need
further
support.
C.
It
needs
improving.
D.
It
is
well
designed.
D
There
are
many
ways
for
diseases
to
spread.
A
sick
person
can
cough
or
sneeze
on
someone
nearby,
or
they
can
spread
germs(病菌)through
a
handshake.
But
sometimes
we
pick
up
germs
indirectly.
A
sick
person
might
leave
behind
bacteria
or
viruses
when
they
touch
a
door
handle,
for
example.
But
what
if
those
surfaces
could
clean
themselves?
Two
teenagers
from
Hong
Kong
asked
themselves
the
same
question.
Now
they've
developed
a
door
handle
that
can
kill
germs
on
contact(接触).
The
idea
is
simple.
Every
time
the
door
is
opened,
the
movement
creates
power
that
starts
a
germ-killing
reaction
on
the
handle.
In
lab
tests,
their
system
killed
about
99.8
percent
of
the
germs
that
they
spread
onto
lab
dishes
covered
with
their
material.
Research
by
others
has
shown
that
door
handles
in
public
areas
are
often
home
to
lots
of
bacteria
and
viruses,
notes
17-year-old
Sum
Ming("
Simon
")Wong.
He
and
his
schoolmate
Kin
Pong(Michael)
Li,
18,
wanted
to
design
a
covering
for
door
handles
that
would
kill
germs.
After
doing
some
research,
they
learned
that
a
mineral
called
titanium
dioxide(二氧化钛)is
known
to
kill
bacteria.
It's
already
used
in
many
products,
from
paints
to
desserts.
To
make
their
covering,
the
teenagers
made
the
mineral
into
a
very
fine
powder.
Titanium
dioxide
kills
bacteria
best
when
lit
by
ultraviolet(紫外线的)light,
says
Simon.
UV
light
is
found
in
sunlight.
But
UV
light
does
not
naturally
shine
on
indoor
handles
or
any
used
at
night,
so
the
teenagers
light
their
door
handle
from
within.
To
make
sure
the
light
reaches
the
coated
surface,
the
teenagers
made
their
door
handle
out
of
clear
glass.
Each
end
fits
into
a
bracket(托架).
Inside
one
of
the
brackets
is
a
strong
light-emitting
diode(LED).
From
it
comes
UV
light.
And
here's
the
interesting
part:
The
power
that
makes
the
UV
light
shine
comes
from
opening
and
closing
the
door.
The
power
from
the
door
is
then
carried
by
wire
to
the
LED
inside
the
door
handle.
The
door
handle
system,
Michael
and
Simon
say,
might
cost
no
more
than
about
$13(about
81
yuan)to
build.
32.

light
to
help

35.
What
is
the

results
in
their
professional
and
personal
lives.
Reading
will
not
only
make
you
more
likely
to
succeed,
but
if
you
do
it
before
going
to
bed,
it
can
really
help
you
to
reduce
stress
and
progressively
calm
you
down.
2.
Unplug(远离)from
social
media.
At
the
end
of
each
working
day,
the
most
important
thing
is
to
switch
off
distractions
such
as
WeChat,
emails
and
messaging
to
create
some
time
for
yourself.
38
Go
to
bed
earlier,
take
a
bath,
go
to
that
cooking
class
you
have
been
putting
off
for
so
long,
or
spend
quality
time
with
the
person
you
love.
3.
Organize
the
following
day.
39
It
is
really
difficult
to
remember
all
the
things
you
need
to
do,
so
why
not
write
them
all
down
in
a
journal
or
a
to-do
list?
Successful
people
know
the
importance
of
a
well-planned
day
and
this
allows
them
to
enjoy
themselves
in
the
evening.
So
before
you
go
to
bed,
grab
a
planner
or
a
notebook
and
write
down
your
3
most
important
goals
for
tomorrow.
40
A.
But
what
about
the
evening
habits?
B.
Do
something
you
love
every
night
before
you
sleep.
C.
It
is
also
really
useful
for
improving
your
creative
thinking.
D.
They
all
know
the
importance
of
educating
themselves
every
single
day.
E.
Having
a
well-written
plan
can
really
benefit
the
tasks
you
have
set
for
the
day.
F.
Relieve
your
stress
by
lying
down
and
focusing
on
your
breath
and
body.
G.
Be
honest
with
yourself
in
setting
the
right
amount
of
time
to
achieve
each
individual
goal.

第三部分英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)
第一节完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)
I
took
up
the
violin
at
8
and
have
continued
playing
since.
My
experience
shows
music
could
really
41
me
to
connect
with
people.
I
used
to
42
going
to
the
teen
group
in
our
church.
Being
shy,
I
didn't
have
the
courage
to
meet
new
people
there.
So
I
was
never
involved(参与)in
any
43
.
This
was
why
the
teen
group
always
44
me.
But
my
parents
asked
me
to
go
there.
Mark
Bowen,
the
group
leader,
wanted
to
found
a
band
within
the
group.
He
asked
me
to
45
.At
first,
I
wanted
to
46
,
thinking
being
part
of
a
band
would
make
my
life
47
at
the
group.
Finally
with
my
parents'
encouragement,
I
changed
my
48
and
became
a
band
member
as
a
solo
(独奏)violinist.
49
I
had
tons
of
experience
in
performing
with
my
school
orchestra,
I
50
played
alone
before.
51
,
this
made
me
nervous.
But
I
was
52
after
I
found
my
violin
going
well
with
the
other
instruments.
After
several
performances,
I
made
friends
with
other
53
.
We
shared
music
and
told
jokes.
What
was
54
was
a
visit
from
a
famous
musician.
One
day
during
the
training,
a
lady
walked
in.
After
we
55
,
she
walked
towards
me
and
said,
"
I
heard
a
violin
playing!
So
I
followed
the
56
.
"
This
was
Charis
a
Rouse,
the
violinist
I
admired
most.
The
thought
of
meeting
her
always
made
me
57
because
she
was
so
talented.
And
now
she
was
58
me.
How
amazing!
She
gave
me
many
tips.
And
she
told
me
though
it's
fun
to
play
the
violin,
I
should
take
the
59
seriously,
as
playing
for
the
church
is
a
huge
responsibility.
Looking
back,
joining
the
band
made
me
60
,
and
improved
my
musical
ability.
I
really
appreciate
it
for
helping
me
grow
up.

W:
Christopher,
I

It

quite
different
from
the
weddings
I
had
been
to
in
the
US.
After
the
wedding,
the
food
was
displayed

There

I

Well,
I
didn't

eating
after
I

W:
Why
don't
we
get
the
baby
a

little

M:
A
dress?
What
about
a
toy?
W:
New-born
babies
don't
play
with
toys,
darling.
They
just
sleep,
eat
and
cry.
Or
maybe
we
could
get
Jane
and
Robert
something
useful
for
the
baby.
M:
Yes.
Useful
and
boring!
I
still
think
a
toy
would
be
better.
Something
the
baby
can

or
look
at

W:
Oh,
yes.
You

That's
a

we

at

and
it's
only
about
ten

away
from
the

it
might
have
been
about
ten
past
one.
M:
Did
you
get
a
view
of
who
was
in
the
car?
W:
The
driver,
of
course,
someone
in
the
passenger
seat,
and
there
was
someone
in
the
back.
They
came
speeding
out
of
Mark
Road
and
drove
straight
onto
High
Street
and
hit
that
lady's
bicycle.
The
driver
didn't
bother
to
stop.
He
just
drove
along
and
turned
into
Green
Road.
M:
Could
you
give
me
a
description
of
the
car?
W:
Well,
I'm
not
very
good
with
cars,
but
I'm
pretty
sure
it
was
the
same
model
as
my
husband's
car,
a
Ford.
The
door
on
the
driver's
side
was
damaged.
M:
I
don't
suppose
you
had
chance
to
take
down
the
number,
did
you?
W:
No.

did
not
exist
at
the
time
of
the
Roman
Empire.

the
1990s,

example,

Vatican
Latin
researcher
Carlo
Egger

for
common
objects
in
the
home.

time,
the
dead
language
will
come
back
to
life.
