Born
in
1954,
Oprah
Winfrey
is
best
known
for
her
multi-award-winning
talk
show
as
the
most
influential
woman
in
the
world.
It's
no
surprise
that
her
recognition
can
bring
overnight
sales
fortune
that
defeats
most,
if
not
all,
marketing
campaigns.
The
star
features
about
20
products
each
year
on
her
"Favorite
Things"
show.
There's
even
a
term
for
it:
the
Oprah
Effect.
Her
television
career
began
unexpectedly.
When
she
was
16
years
old,
she
had
the
idea
of
being
a
journalist
to
tell
other
people's
stories
in
a
way
that
made
a
difference
in
their
lives
and
the
world.
She
was
on
television
by
the
time
she
was
19
years
old.
And
in
1986
she
started
her
own
television
show
with
a
continuous
determination
to
succeed
at
first.
TIME
magazine
wrote,
"People
would
have
doubted
Oprah
Winfrey's
swift
rise
to
host
of
the
most
popular
talk
show
on
TV.
In
a
field
dominated
by
white
males,
she
is
a
black
female
of
big
size.
As
interviewers
go,
she
is
no
match
for
Phil
Donahue.
What
she
lacks
in
journalistic
toughness,
she
makes
up
for
in
plainspoken
curiosity,
rich
humor
and,
above
all
understanding.
Guests
with
sad
stories
to
tell
tend
to
bring
out
a
tear
in
Oprah's
eye.
They,
in
turn,
often
find
themselves
exposing
things
they
would
not
imagine
telling
anyone,
much
less
a
national
TV
audience."
"I
was
nervous
about
the
competition
and
then
I
became
my
own
competition
raising
the
bar
every
year,
pushing,
pushing,
pushing
myself
as
hard
as
I
knew.
It
doesn't
matter
how
far
you
might
rise.
At
some
point
you
are
likely
to
fall
if
you'
re
constantly
doing
what
we
do,
raising
the
bar.
If
you'
re
constantly
pushing
yourself
higher,
higher
the
law
of
averages,
you
will
at
some
point
fall.
And
when
you
do,
I
want
you
to
know
this,
remember
this:
there
is
no
such
thing
as
failure.
Failure
is
just
life
trying
to
move
us
in
another
direction"
as
Oprah
addressed
graduates
at
Harvard
on
May
30.

As
a
51-year-old
first-aid
responder
since
1984,
Jeffrey
never
knows
what
type
of
situation
he
might
walk
into,
or
who
he'll
meet
along
the
way
Ten
years
into
the
job,
Jeffrey
received
a
call
that
reported
that
a
man
in
his
early
30s
had
fallen
down
in
the
Mall
of
America.
When
Jeffrey
and
his
partner
arrived
at
the
scene,
they
found
the
young
male
face
down
on
the
ground.
He
had
gone
unconscious,
making
weak
attempts
to
breathe.
His
wife
stood
beside
him
holding
their
small
son
in
horror.
They
quickly
rushed
to
calm
the
man
to
keep
him
under
control
and
offer
necessary
first
aid.
After
Jeffrey
dropped
the
patient
off
at
the
neighboring
hospital,
he
thought
about
the
man
and
his
family
for
a
long
time.
Jeffrey
thought
he
had
experienced
everything
under
the
sun
until
one
random
visit
to
Office
Max
three
years
ago,
where
he
met
a
man
repeatedly
walking
back
and
forth
while
staring
at
him.
As
it
turned
out,
the
man
was
the
patient
he
had
saved
20
years
earlier.
"You
gave
me
20
years
more
than
I
ever
thought
I'd
have,"
the
man
said.
He
thanked
Jeffrey
repeatedly
and
told
him
he
had
someone
he
wanted
him
to
meet.
He
stepped
around
the
corner
and
reappeared
with
a
20-something-year-old
man.
Jeffrey
instantly
knew
that
it
was
the
son
he
had
seen
standing
by
his
mother
all
those
years
ago
"That
day
changed
my
life,"
Jeffrey
said.
"Before
that,
everything
was
about
work…When
I
talk
to
my
beginner-training
class,
I
tell
them
you
never
know
the
effect
you
can
have
on
someone's
life."

man
to

what
was
needed
9.

Researchers
say
spicy
tomatoes
could
soon
be
on
the
menu
thanks
to
the
rise
of
gene-editing
technology.
It's
not
the
first
time
that
experts
have
claimed
techniques
could
develop
fruit
with
unusual
features:
scientists
have
already
been
looking
at
changing
the
color
of
kiwi
fruit
and
bettering
the
taste
of
strawberries.
But
researchers
in
Brazil
and
Ireland
say
such
methods
could
also
offer
practical
advantages,
with
hot
tomatoes
offering
a
new
way
of
harvesting
the
pungent
chemicals
found
in
peppers
known
as
capsaicinoids,
which
make
food
taste
“hot”.
“Capsaicinoids
are
valuable.
They
are
used
as
painkillers
and
there
are
some
researches
showing
that
they
promote
weight
loss,”
said
Agustin
Zsogon
from
a
Brazilian
university,
a
co-author
of
a
new
article
arguing
for
the
benefits
of
engineering
hot
tomatoes.
Writing
in
the
journal
Trends
in
Plant
Science,
the
researchers
say
peppers
are
difficult
crops
to
grow
and
low
productive.
Worse
still,
it
is
tricky
to
keep
the
pungency
of
the
fruits
table.
By
contrast,
tomato
production
is
high
and
the
plant
is
well-studied.
“You
could
produce
the
capsaicinoids
in
a
more
cost-effective
manner,”
said
Zsogon.
Tomatoes
and
peppers
developed
from
a
common
ancestor,
but
separated
about
19
million
years
ago.
“All
these
genes
to
produce
capsaicinoids
exist
in
the
tomato,
they
are
just
not
active,”
said
Zsogon.
“Using
gene-editing
technology,
it
is
likely
to
switch
these
genes
back
on
in
tomatoes,
making
the
fruit
more
special”,
he
said.
12.
Why
are
the
tomatoes
made
hot
by
the
researchers?
A.
To
test
the
gene-editing
technology
B.
To
improve
the
amount
of
the
tomatoes
C.
To
explore
ways
to
harvest
more
capsaicinoids.
D.
To
make
the
tomatoes
more
delicious.
13.
For
what
purpose
can
capsaicinoids
be
used
according
to
the
text?
A.
To
put
on
weight.
B.
To
ease
the
pain.
C.
To
improve
sleep.
D.
To
better
the
look.
14.
What
is
Zsogon's
attitude
to
the
gene-editing
technology?
A.
Confident.
B.
Critical.
C.
Anxious.
D.
Doubtful.
15.
What's
the
main
idea
of
the
text?
A.
An
introduction
to
gene-editing
plants.
B.
Creating
hot
tomatoes
by
gene-editing.
C.
Problems
with
capsaicinoid
production.
D.
The
procedure
of
producing
capsaicinoids.

Traveling
with
kids,
regardless
of
the
age,
is
a
terrible
experience
for
new
parents.
___16___
Travel
expenses
also
might
be
unexpected
at
any
point
of
the
trip.
Here
are
a
few
lifesaving
tips
to
help
you
out
with
that.
☆Check
your
children's

If
you
travel
a
lot
you
probably
check
your
passport
regularly.
___17___
The
cost
of
last-minute
passports
is
huge
so
do
your
wallet
a
favor
and
check
your
passports
well
in
advance.
☆Get
a
child
locator
There
are
usually
floods
of
people
at
the
airports
and
train
stations
and
many
parents
sometimes
lose
their
kids.
___18___
So
if
you
are
afraid
to
lose
your
children,
get
a
child
locator
to
be
aware
of
where
your
kids
are
going
when
they
accidentally
get
lost.
The
last
thing
you
want
is
a
ruined
trip
or
a
lost
child
when
traveling.
There
are
also
useful
apps
to
keep
your
little
ones
safe
during
your
trip.
Try
them
all
well
in
advance,
though.
☆
___19___
When
traveling
with
an
entire
family,
try
to
travel
light.
However,
the
art
of
family
packing
is
not
as
difficult
as
most
moms
think.
Check
the
weather,
your
family
activities
and
the
schedule
and
decide
what
to
take
or
cross
off.
☆Keep
them
entertained
You
do
not
need
to
pack
tons
of
toys,
sweets
and
a
tablet
full
of
games
in
order
to
keep
your
little
ones
entertained.
You
can
encourage
them
to
create
a
travel
journal
or
smash
book,
read,
tell
each
other
stories.
___20___
.
A.
Avoid
heavy
luggage.
B.
Responsibility
is
high
C
Look
for
family-friendly
accommodation
D.
It
is
the
same
with
the
popular
tourist
destinations.
E.
When
it
comes
to
children's
case,
you
might
skip
this
check.
F.
A
camera
to
capture
the
wonderful
moments
is
another
good
idea
G.
Keep
in
mind
that
what
feels
great
to
you
may
feel
terrible
to
your
children.

Born
in
1954,
Oprah
Winfrey
is
best
known
for
her
multi-award-winning
talk
show
as
the
most
influential
woman
in
the
world.
It's
no
surprise
that
her
recognition
can
bring
overnight
sales
fortune
that
defeats
most,
if
not
all,
marketing
campaigns.
The
star
features
about
20
products
each
year
on
her
"Favorite
Things"
show.
There's
even
a
term
for
it:
the
Oprah
Effect.
Her
television
career
began
unexpectedly.
When
she
was
16
years
old,
she
had
the
idea
of
being
a
journalist
to
tell
other
people's
stories
in
a
way
that
made
a
difference
in
their
lives
and
the
world.
She
was
on
television
by
the
time
she
was
19
years
old.
And
in
1986
she
started
her
own
television
show
with
a
continuous
determination
to
succeed
at
first.
TIME
magazine
wrote,
"People
would
have
doubted
Oprah
Winfrey's
swift
rise
to
host
of
the
most
popular
talk
show
on
TV.
In
a
field
dominated
by
white
males,
she
is
a
black
female
of
big
size.
As
interviewers
go,
she
is
no
match
for
Phil
Donahue.
What
she
lacks
in
journalistic
toughness,
she
makes
up
for
in
plainspoken
curiosity,
rich
humor
and,
above
all
understanding.
Guests
with
sad
stories
to
tell
tend
to
bring
out
a
tear
in
Oprah's
eye.
They,
in
turn,
often
find
themselves
exposing
things
they
would
not
imagine
telling
anyone,
much
less
a
national
TV
audience."
"I
was
nervous
about
the
competition
and
then
I
became
my
own
competition
raising
the
bar
every
year,
pushing,
pushing,
pushing
myself
as
hard
as
I
knew.
It
doesn't
matter
how
far
you
might
rise.
At
some
point
you
are
likely
to
fall
if
you'
re
constantly
doing
what
we
do,
raising
the
bar.
If
you'
re
constantly
pushing
yourself
higher,
higher
the
law
of
averages,
you
will
at
some
point
fall.
And
when
you
do,
I
want
you
to
know
this,
remember
this:
there
is
no
such
thing
as
failure.
Failure
is
just
life
trying
to
move
us
in
another
direction"
as
Oprah
addressed
graduates
at
Harvard
on
May
30.

As
a
51-year-old
first-aid
responder
since
1984,
Jeffrey
never
knows
what
type
of
situation
he
might
walk
into,
or
who
he'll
meet
along
the
way
Ten
years
into
the
job,
Jeffrey
received
a
call
that
reported
that
a
man
in
his
early
30s
had
fallen
down
in
the
Mall
of
America.
When
Jeffrey
and
his
partner
arrived
at
the
scene,
they
found
the
young
male
face
down
on
the
ground.
He
had
gone
unconscious,
making
weak
attempts
to
breathe.
His
wife
stood
beside
him
holding
their
small
son
in
horror.
They
quickly
rushed
to
calm
the
man
to
keep
him
under
control
and
offer
necessary
first
aid.
After
Jeffrey
dropped
the
patient
off
at
the
neighboring
hospital,
he
thought
about
the
man
and
his
family
for
a
long
time.
Jeffrey
thought
he
had
experienced
everything
under
the
sun
until
one
random
visit
to
Office
Max
three
years
ago,
where
he
met
a
man
repeatedly
walking
back

forth
while
staring
at
him.
As
it
turned
out,
the
man
was
the
patient
he
had
saved
20
years
earlier.
"You
gave
me
20
years
more
than
I
ever
thought
I'd
have,"
the
man
said.
He

Jeffrey
repeatedly
and

he
had
someone
he
wanted
him
to

stepped
around
the
corner
and
reappeared
with
a
20-something-year-old
man.
Jeffrey

it
was
the
son
he
had
seen
standing
by
his
mother
all
those
years
ago
"That
day
changed
my
life,"
Jeffrey
said.
"Before
that,
everything

about
work…When
I

you

Researchers
say
spicy
tomatoes
could
soon
be
on
the
menu
thanks
to
the
rise
of
gene-editing
technology.
It's
not
the
first
time
that
experts
have
claimed
techniques
could
develop
fruit
with
unusual
features:
scientists
have
already
been
looking
at
changing
the
color
of
kiwi
fruit
and
bettering
the
taste
of
strawberries.
But
researchers
in
Brazil
and
Ireland
say
such
methods
could
also
offer
practical
advantages,
with
hot
tomatoes
offering
a
new
way
of
harvesting
the
pungent
chemicals
found
in
peppers
known
as
capsaicinoids,
which
make
food
taste
“hot”.
“Capsaicinoids
are
valuable.
They
are
used
as
painkillers
and
there
are
some
researches
showing
that
they
promote
weight
loss,”
said
Agustin
Zsogon
from
a
Brazilian
university,
a
co-author
of
a
new
article
arguing
for
the
benefits
of
engineering
hot
tomatoes.
Writing
in
the
journal
Trends
in
Plant
Science,
the
researchers
say
peppers
are
difficult
crops
to
grow
and
low
productive.
Worse
still,
it
is
tricky
to
keep
the
pungency
of
the
fruits
table.
By
contrast,
tomato
production
is
high
and
the
plant
is
well-studied.
“You
could
produce
the
capsaicinoids
in
a
more
cost-effective
manner,”
said
Zsogon.
Tomatoes
and
peppers
developed
from
a
common
ancestor,
but
separated
about
19
million
years
ago.
“All
these
genes
to
produce
capsaicinoids
exist
in
the
tomato,
they
are
just
not
active,”
said
Zsogon.
“Using
gene-editing
technology,
it
is
likely
to
switch
these
genes
back
on
in
tomatoes,
making
the
fruit
more
special”,
he
said.
12.
Why
are
the
tomatoes
made
hot
by
the
researchers?
A.
To
test
the
gene-editing
technology
B.
To
improve
the
amount
of
the
tomatoes
C.
To
explore
ways
to
harvest
more
capsaicinoids.
D.
To
make
the
tomatoes
more
delicious.
13.
For
what
purpose
can
capsaicinoids
be
used
according
to
the
text?
A.
To
put
on
weight.
B.
To
ease
the
pain.
C.
To
improve
sleep.
D.
To
better
the
look.
14.
What
is
Zsogon's
attitude
to
the
gene-editing
technology?
A.
Confident.
B.
Critical.
C.
Anxious.
D.
Doubtful.
15.
What's
the
main
idea
of
the
text?
A.
An
introduction
to
gene-editing
plants.
B.
Creating
hot
tomatoes
by
gene-editing.
C.
Problems
with
capsaicinoid
production.
D.
The

第二节:读后续写(满分25分)
47.
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
It
was
8
o'clock
on
Sunday.
Amy
still
stayed
in
bed,
listening
to
the
radio.
Her
mother,
Hannah,
asked
her
to
switch
off
the
radio
and
finish
her
homework,
but
she
didn't
listen.
Her
mother
went
out
of
the
room
with
anger.
Next
morning,
Amy
went
to
school
cursing(咒骂)everyone
possible
for
having
to
go
to
school.
Even
in
school,
Amy
had
a
reputation(名声)of
sorts
for
all
the
wrong
reasons.
She
slept
in
class
and
did
not
finish
her
work.
In
playtime,
Amy
had
to
go
out
and
play,
but
she
tried
to
find
an
excuse
saying
that
she
was
tired
when
someone
caught
her
walking
away.
She
came
home
with
leftovers
in
her
lunchbox
or
other
complaint
almost
every
day,
and
that
day
was
also
no
different.
"Who
can
help
me
to
change
my
daughter?"
Hannah
wondered.
Hannah
never
believed
in
raising
her
voice
or
raising
her
arm
on
Amy
or
on
anyone
for
that
matter.
She
believed
and
wished
that
her
love
and
patience
would
one
day
change
Amy.
One
day
a
new
family
moved
into
Amy's
apartment.
They
were
very
friendly
people.
They
wanted
to
acquaint(使…熟悉)themselves
with
all
the
neighbors,
so
their
little
girl
,
Mary,
was
sent
all
around
the
neighborhood
to
find
friends.
Soon,
Mary
carne
to
Amy's
home.
It
didn't
take
much
time
for
Mary
to
understand
Amy.
However,
she
was
not
put
off
by
Amy's
behavior.
She
knew
that
she
needed
to
help
Amy
to
change.
She
told
Amy
an
idea
that
her
teacher
had
once
told
the
class
in
her
previous
school.
"Blow
a
balloon
whenever
you're
angry
or
upset
about
something
or
someone.
At
first
Amy
did
not
listen
to
Mary
but
Hannah
tried
her
best
to
tell
her
that
it
was
fun
and
brought
her
a
pack
of
balloons.
That
day,
Amy
wanted
to
play
a
guessing
game
with
her
mother,
but
Hannah
wanted
to
finish
her
chores(杂活)in
the
kitchen
first.
Amy
got
angry.
注意

答案:Paragraph
1:
She
remembered
what
Mary
told
her
and
thought
she
would
give
it
a
try.
Amy
dashed
into
her
room,
found
the
balloons
and
picked
one
out
with
an
overwhelming
sense
of
anger.
Thinking
about
her
mother's
refusal,
Amy
spared
no
effort
to
blow
the
balloon.
Suddenly,
the
balloon
exploded
with
a
bang,
making
her
numb
with
shock.
It
occurred
to
her
that
she
should
stop
complaining
but
stay
optimistic,
or
she
would
end
up
exploding
like
the
balloon
one
day.
An
overwhelming
sense
of
shame
almost
swallowed
her
and
pushed
her
to
make
a
change.
Paragraph
2:
Amy
is
a
changed
person
now.
Amy
changes
her
attitude
completely.
Actually,
Instead
of
complaining
about
everything,
she
begin
to
appreciate
her
life
and
friends.
What
set
Amy
apart
is
that
she
volunteers
to
spread
the
function
of
blowing
balloon
in
her
community.
She
wants
to
do
something
for
her
neighborhood
just
like
what
Mary
did
for
her.
Her
anger
is
well
controlled
even
without
a
balloon.
She
is
willing
to
take
others’
suggestions
into
consideration,
contributing
to
her
better
behavior.
Instead
of
losing
her
temper
all
the
time,
she
is
now
a
polite
and
thoughtful
girl
with
contagious
enthusiasm.
