B.
Most
rain
forests
lie
to
the
equator(赤道),
where
the
climate
is
often
mild
and
there
are
long
hours
of
sunshine.
The
warmth
of
the
land
heats
the
air
above,
causing
it
to
rise
and
tiny
drops
of
water
to
fall
as
rain.
The
rainfall
can
reach
at
least
98
inches
a
year.
This
wet,
warm
world
with
plenty
of
sunlight
is
perfect
for
plants
to
grow,
so
the
trees
grow
fast
with
green
leaves
all
the
year
round.
The
trees
themselves
also
have
an
effect
on
the
climate.
They
gather
water
from
the
soil
and
pass
it
out
into
the
air
through
their
leaves.
The
wet
air
then
forms
clouds,
which
hang
over
the
treetops
like
smoke.
These
clouds
protect
the
forest
from
the
daytime
heat
and
night-time
cold
of
nearby
deserts,
keeping
temperatures
fit
for
plant
growth.
Rain
forests
slightly
farther
away
from
the
equator
remain
just
as
warm,
but
they
have
a
dry
season
of
three
months
or
more
when
little
rain
falls.
Tree
leaves
fall
during
this
dry
season
and
new
leaves
grow
when
the
wet
season
or
monsoon(雨季)
begins.
Thus
these
areas
are
known
as
the
"monsoon
forest".
Another
type
of
rain
forest
grows
on
tropical
mountains.
It
is
often
called
the
"cloud
forest"
because
clouds
often
hang
over
the
trees
like
fog.
The
rain
forest
is
the
ideal
place
for
the
growth
of
many
different
trees.
Most
of
them
depend
on
animals
to
eat
their
fruits
and
spread
their
seeds.
When
the
fruits
are
eaten,
the
seeds
inside
them
go
undamaged
through
animals'
stomachs
and
are
passed
out
in
their
droppings.
The
seeds
lying
on
the
forest
floor
then
grow
into
new
trees.
24.
The
climate
of
the
rain
forests
near
the
equator
is
______.
A.
mild,
wet
and
windy
B.
hot,
rainy
and
foggy
C.
hot,
wet
and
cloudy
D.
warm,
wet
and
sunny
25.
We
can
learn
from
the
passage
that
______.
A.
tree
leaves
are
green
all
the
time
in
the
monsoon
forest
B.
there
is
a

in
the

C.

D.

26.
According
to
the
passage,
______
play
the
most
important
role
in
the
spreading
of
seeds.
A.
animals
B.

27.
This
passage
is
most
likely
to
be
found
in
_______.
A.
a
travel
guide
B.
a
story
book
C.
a
technical
report
D.
a
geographical
book
C.
Some
animals
in
the
world
have
a
natural
ability
that
human
beings
don’t
have.
Seals
may
be
able
to
detect
(探测)fish
up
to
100
m
away
using
only
their
whiskers
(胡须),
say
scientists.
Researchers
used
an
artificial(人造的)
fish
in
their
experiment,
to
create
a
“trail”
in
the
water
that
a
seal
could
detect.
They
described
how
a
trained
seal,
named
Henry,
was
able
to
indicate(显示),
with
a
rapid
movement
of
its
head,
whether
the
fish
moved
to
the
right
or
to
the
left.
The
study
was
led
by
Wolf
Hankie
of
the
Marine
Science
Center
at
the
University
of
Rostock,
Germany.
He
explained
how
the
seal
wore
a
blindfold
(眼罩)
and
headphones
during
the
experiment
to
ensure
that
it
could
only
pick
up
waves
created
by
the
fish
with
its
whiskers.
“The
animals
are
actually
enthusiastic
to
wear
the
mask
because
it
means
play
time
and
food
rewards,”
explained
Dr.
Hankie.
“We
had
a
small
box
in
the
pool
to
achieve
calm
water
conditions,”
he
explained.
“The
seal
stayed
in
the
box.”
Inside
the
box,
the
scientists
created
a
trail
with
their
artificial
fish,
which
was
actually
a
rubber
fin
(鳍)
on
a
stick
that
created
a
trail
similar
to
the
swimming
motion(运动)
of
a
real
fish.
They
operated
the
fin
from
outside
the
box,
moving
it
from
left
to
right
or
from
right
to
left.
The
seal
responded
to
the
movement
by
turning
its
head
in
the
direction
that
the
fin
had
moved.
The
seal
was
able
to
sense
and
indicate
the
direction
in
which
the
fin
travelled
up
to
35
seconds
after
the
movement
had
stopped.
Dr.
Hankie
believes
that
seals
may
also
be
able
to
“analyze”
the
structure
of
a
trail
to
“work
out”
more
about
its
source.
He
and
his
colleagues
(同事)used
different
shapes
of
fin
to
create
different
water
disturbances.
“They
seem
to
be
able
to
detect
differences
between
different
shapes,
which
might
even
mean
that
they
can
make
out
different
species
of
fish.
We
had
a
surprising
result
from
an
experiment
with
one
seal
following
another,”
he
said.
“The
trail
left
by
the
first
seal
was
two
meters
wide,
and
the
second
following
seal
was
able
to
stay
right
in
the
middle
of
it,
so
it
seems
they
can
analyze
the
internal
structure
of
a
trail.”
The
researchers
are
now
making
experiments
using
live
fish
to
see
how
closely
seals
are
able
to
follow
their
moving
path.
28.
The
underlined
word
“trail”
means
________.
A.
signal
B.
mark
C.
wave
D.
fish
29.
Why
did
Dr.
Hankie
and
his
colleagues
use
different
shapes
of
fin
to
create
different
water
disturbances?
A.
To
make
the
result
more
correct.
B.
To
find
out
whether
the
seal
could
tell
different
species
of
fish.
C.
To
make
the
seal
more
enthusiastic
and
active.
D.
To
see
if
the
seal
could
work
out
their
sources.
30.
We
can
draw
a
conclusion
that
seal
whiskers
are
very
_________.
A.
dull
B.
sensitive
C.
sharp
D.
poisonous
31.
What
is
the
passage
mainly
talking
about?
A.
Seals
can
track(追踪)
movements
in
the
water.
B.
An
experiment
on
seals.
C.
Seal
whiskers
sense
faraway
fish.
D.
Seals
can
make
out
different
species
of
fish.
D.
The
World
Health
Organization
warns
that
millions
of
people
are
dying
every
year
from
indoor
air
pollution.
Nearly
three
billion
people
are
unable
to
use
clean
fuels
and
technologies
for
cooking,
heating
as
well
as
lighting.
These
findings
show
that
the
use
of
deadly
fuels
in
inefficient
stoves,
space
heaters
or
lights
is
to
blame
for
many
of
these
deaths.
WHO
officials
say
indoor
pollution
leads
to
early
deaths
from
stroke,
heart
and
lung
disease,
childhood
pneumonia(小儿肺炎)
and
lung
cancer.
Women
and
girls
are
the
main
victims.
These
diseases
can
often
result
from
the
burning
of
solid
fuels.
These
fuels
include
wood,
coal,
animal
waste,
crop
waste
and
charcoal.
The
United
Nations
found
that
more
than
95
percent
of
households
in
sub-Saharan
Africa
depend
on
solid
fuels
for
cooking.
It
says
huge
populations
in
India,
China
and
Latin
American
countries,
such
as
Guatermala
and
Peru,are
also
at
risk.
Nigel
Brace
is
a
professor
of
Public
Health
at
the
University
of
Liverpool.
He
says
researchers
are
developing
good
cook-stoves
and
other
equipment
to
burn
fuels
in
a
more
efficient
way.There
are
already
multiple
technologies
available
for
use
in
clean
fuels.There
is
really
quite
an
effective
and
reasonably
low-cost
alcohol
stove
made
by
Dometic
(a
Sweden-based
company)
that
is
now
being
tested
out.
LPG
(Liquefield
Petroleum
Gas)
cook
is
obviously
widely
available
and
efforts
are
under
way
to
make
those
efficient.
Another
interesting
development
is
electric
induction
stoves
(电磁炉).
WHO
experts
note
that
some
new,
safe
and
low-cost
technologies
that
could
help
are
already
available.
In
India,
you
can
buy
an
induction
stove
for
about
$8.00.
And
in
Africa
you
can
buy
a
solar
lamp
for
less
than
$1.00.
But
this,the
agency
says,
is
just
a
start.
It
is
urging
developing
countries
to
use
cleaner
fuels
and
increase
access(途径,方法)
to
cleaner
and
more
modern
cooking
and
heating
appliances/devices.
32.
What
does
the
indoor
pollution
mainly
result
from?
A.
Poisonous
fuels.
B.
High
technology.
C.
Space
heaters.
D.
Solar
energy.
33.
How
is
Paragraph
3
mainly
developed?
A.
By
showing
differences.
B.
By
describing
a
process.
C.
By
making
a
list.
D.
By
analyzing
data.
34.
What
can
we
infer
from
the
passage?
A.
Indoor
pollution
results
in
some
deaths.
B.
Most
of
the
deaths
are
in
developing
countries.
C.
The
solid
fuels
are
used
in
more
effective
ways.
D.
There
is
no
indoor
pollution
in
developed
countries.
35.
Which
of
the
following
is
TRUE
according
to
the
passage?
A.
LPG
cooks
are
being
tested
out.
B.
Alcohol
stoves
are
widely
used
now.
C.
Electric

place,
which
may
be
harmful
to
the
tree.
Some
soils
aren’t
good
for
planting
some
trees.
37
It’ll
help
you
determine
the
kind
of
fertilizer
necessary
for
the
tree.
Digging
a
hole
too
deep
or
too
narrow
is
also
a
mistake
we
tend
to
make
while
planting
a
tree.
If
the
hole
is
dug
too
deep,
the
roots
don’t
get
enough
oxygen,
resulting
in
bad
growth
of
the
tree.
Besides,
a
narrow
hole
won’t
allow
the
roots
to
expand
or
support
the
tree
family.
38
Ideally,
the
planting
hole
for
a
tree
should
be
twice
as
wide
and
deep
as
the
root
ball.
To
protect
the
roots
of
a
tree,
we
need
to
put
a
mulch(护根)
on
them.
First
of
all,
it’s
really
important
to
select
the
right
type
of
mulch.
39
In
addition,
we
must
use
a
proper
amount
of
mulch.
Too
much
mulching
may
cause
damage
to
the
roots,
while
less
mulching
may
result
in
dryness
around
the
roots.
40
Walk
around
the
trees
to
recognize
the
problems
that
have
appeared,
and
fix
them
before
they
go
out
of
control.
Different
species
require
different
planting
places.
Most
newly
planted
trees
die
because
of
lack
of
mulch.
However,
there
are
some
mistakes
we
often
make
while
planning
trees.
We
should
make
our
choice
based
on
the
plant
species
and
the
type
of
soil.
So
having
a
soil
test
before
deciding
on
the
planting
place
would
be
wiser.
The
most
important
thing
is
to
monitor/watch
over
the
growth
of
trees
on
a
regular
basis.
G.This
may
weaken
the
tree
and
its
ability
to
stand
up
to
unfavorable
weather
conditions.

On
a
trip

from
Boston,
my
two
girls
and
I
stopped
at
a

It
wasn’t
until
we

that
I

I

First,
I

Just
a
quick
Google

right?
Unfortunately,
the

hence,
I
called
the

The
hostess
warmly
set

my

had
a

it

the

Jenny

a
bright-eyed,pretty
five-year-old
girl
.
One
day
when
she
and
her
mother
were
checking
out
at
the
grocery
store,
Jenny
saw
a
plastic
pearl
necklace
priced
at
$2.50.
How
she
wanted
that
necklace,
and
when
she
asked
her
mother
if
she
would
buy
it
for
her,
her
mother
said,
"Well,
it
is
a
pretty
necklace,
but
it
costs
an
awful
lot
of
money.
I'll
tell
you
what.
I'll
buy
you
the
necklace,
and
when
we
get
home
we
can
make
up
a
list
of
chores
that
you
can
do
to
pay
for
the
necklace.
And
don't

that
for
your
birthday
Grandma
just
might
give
you
a
whole
dollar

too.
Okay?"
Jenny
agreed,
and
her

bought
the
pearl

for
her.
Jenny

her
that

One

"Jenny,
do

"Oh
yes,

the
little

said.
"Well,
then,

"Oh!

Jenny
refused.

I
brought

We
can

M:
Good

That's

than
eating

Why
not?

I

W:
That's
OK.

the

I

Well,
she

So
she's

M:
You

are
you?
W:
Now
that's
an
attractive
idea,
but
I'm
not
silly.
I'm
on
such
a

What
I
was

was
to

Then
I

I'd

some

W:
Oh,
yes.
That

our
best-selling

M:
How

it?
W:
It's
forty

sixty
centimeters.
M:
Oh,
I
think
that's
too
small.
I
need
it
when
I

Well,
we

That's

no,

sixty

ninety.
M:
That's

What
colors
do
you

W:
The
Plus
is
available
in
red

green,
or
blue
and
white.
M:
Can
you
keep
a
blue
and
white
one
for
me,
please?
I'll
come
and
get
it
on
Saturday.
W:
Certainly,
sir.
The
price
is
usually
$300,
but
it's
on
sale
on
weekends

$200.
M:
Yeah,
that's
why
I'll
come
on
Saturday.
Thank
you
very
much
for
your
help.
(Text

W:Well,
in
the
first
photo,
there's
a
group
of
children,
five
boys
and
six
girls,
playing
football
together
in
the
park.
They
seem
to
be
enjoying
themselves,
and
it
seems
that
they
won't
mind
what
the
score
will
be
at
all.
I
think
they
benefit
from
this
activity
in
several
ways.
First,
they're
getting
some
exercise,
which
is
always
good
for
them
because
it's
great
for
health
and
helps
to
relax.
At
the
same
time,
they
're
having
fun
together,
which
is
important
because
it
builds
up
their
social
relationships
and
their
friendships.
Also,
it
is
good
for
boys
and
girls
to
do
a
bit
of
sports
together,
because
I
think
playing
sports
is
about
having
fun
with
everyone
and
winning
is
not
the
only
thing.
In
the
second
photo,
there
are
four
girls
talking
together
in
a
cafe
and
laughing.
They
aren’t
so
active
as
the
children
in
the
first
photo
because
they're
not
doing
a
sport,
but
they
are
communicating
more
and
share
their
ideas
and
experiences.
I
think
they
also
benefit
because
they
can
talk
about
their
problems,
relax
and
also
enjoy
their
friendships.
All
in
all,
I
think
they
get
a
lot
from
both
activities.

dollar
bill
given
for
my
birthday
just
to
pay
for
it”.
They
both
fell
into
silence,only
with
a
bunch
of
moonlight
shining
into
the
silent
room.
Then
her
father
smiled,
comforting
her
with
a
warm
hug.
“
That’s
okay,darling.
Good
night,
my
little
one.”
Afraid
of
affecting
her
sleep,
Father
then
left.
Paragraph
2
Several
days
later,
when
Jenny’s
father
came
in
to
read
her
a
story
as
usual,she
was
surprised
to
find
something
under
the
story
book,
which
turned
out
to
be
the
necklace.
“
Daddy,
now
you
can
have
it.”
Jenny
raised
her
head,
“
you
know,
I
love
you
.”
Her
father
was
moved
beyond
words.
Slowly,
he
pulled
something
out
of
his
pocket.
It
was
a
pretty
necklace
with
real
pearls
shining.
“
The
more
you
are
willing
to
give,
the
more
you
are
likely
to
receive.
That’s
the
real
meaning
of
sharing
and
giving.”
Her
father
helped
Jenny
put
on
the
pearls.
“
You
know,
I
love
you,
little
one.”
