Born
in
1954,
Oprah
Winfrey
is
best
known
for
her
multi-award-winning
talk
show
as
the
most
influential
woman
in
the
world.
It's
no
surprise
that
her
recognition
can
bring
overnight
sales
fortune
that
defeats
most,
if
not
all,
marketing
campaigns.
The
star
features
about
20
products
each
year
on
her
"Favorite
Things"
show.
There's
even
a
term
for
it:
the
Oprah
Effect.
Her
television
career
began
unexpectedly.
When
she
was
16
years
old
she
had
the
idea
of
being
a
journalist
to
tell
other
people's
stories
in
a
way
that
made
a
difference
in
their
lives
and
the
world.
She
was
on
television
by
the
time
she
was
19
years
old.
And
in
1986
she
started
her
own
television
show
with
a
continuous
determination
to
succeed
at
first.
TIME
magazine
wrote,
"People
would
have
doubted
Oprah
Winfrey's
swift
rise
to
host
of
the
most
popular
talk
show
on
TV.
In
a
field
dominated
by
white
males,
she
is
a
black
female
of
big
size.
As
interviewers
go,
she
is
no
match
for
Phil
Donahue.
What
she
lacks
in
journalistic
toughness,
she
makes
up
for
in
plainspoken
curiosity,
rich
humor
and,
above
all
understanding.
Guests
with
sad
stories
to
tell
tend
to
bring
out
a
tear
in
Oprah's
eye.
They,
in
turn,
often
find
themselves
exposing
things
they
would
not
imagine
telling
anyone,
much
less
a
national
TV
audience."
"I
was
nervous
about
the
competition
and
then
I
became
my
own
competition
raising
the
bar
every
year,
pushing,
pushing,
pushing
myself
as
hard
as
I
knew.
It
doesn't
matter
how
far
you
might
rise.
At
some
point
you
are
likely
to
fall
if
you'
re
constantly
doing
what
we
do,
raising
the
bar.
If
you'
re
constantly
pushing
yourself
higher,
higher
the
law
of
averages,
you
will
at
some
point
fall.
And
when
you
do,
I
want
you
to
know
this,
remember
this:
there
is
no
such
thing
as
failure.
Failure
is
just
life
trying
to
move
us
in
another
direction"
as
Oprah
addressed
graduates
at
Harvard
on
May
30.

Effect

of
Oprah's
opinions.

on
a

of
Oprah's

can
be

As
a
51-year-old
first-aid
responder
since
1984,
Jeffrey
never
knows
what
type
of
situation
he
might
walk
into,
or
who
he'll
meet
along
the
way
Ten
years
into
the
job,
Jeffrey
received
a
call
that
reported
that
a
man
in
his
early
30s
had
fallen
down
in
the
Mall
of
America.
When
Jeffrey
and
his
partner
arrived
at
the
scene,
they
found
the
young
male
face
down
on
the
ground.
He
had
gone
unconscious,
making
weak
attempts
to
breathe.
His
wife
stood
beside
him
holding
their
small
son
in
horror.
They
quickly
rushed
to
calm
the
man
to
keep
him
under
control
and
offer
necessary
first
aid.
After
Jeffrey
dropped
the
patient
off
at
the
neighboring
hospital,
he
thought
about
the
man
and
his
family
for
a
long
time.
Jeffrey
thought
he
had
experienced
everything
under
the
sun
until
one
random
visit
to
Office
Max
three
years
ago,
where
he
met
a
man
repeatedly
walking
back
and
forth
while
staring
at
him.
As
it
turned
out,
the
man
was
the
patient
he
had
saved
20
years
earlier.
"You
gave
me
20
years
more
than
I
ever
thought
I'd
have,"
the
man
said.
He
thanked
Jeffrey
repeatedly
and
told
him
he
had
someone
he
wanted
him
to
meet.
He
stepped
around
the
corner
and
reappeared
with
a
20-something-year-old
man.
Jeffrey
instantly
knew
that
it
was
the
son
he
had
seen
standing
by
his
mother
all
those
years
ago
"That
day
changed
my
life,"
Jeffrey
said.
"Before
that,
everything
was
about
work…When
I
talk
to
my
beginner-training
class,
I
tell
them
you
never
know
the
effect
you
can
have
on
someone's
life."

Researchers
say
spicy
tomatoes
could
soon
be
on
the
menu
thanks
to
the
rise
of
gene-editing
technology.
It's
not
the
first
time
that
experts
have
claimed
techniques
could
develop
fruit
with
unusual
features:
scientists
have
already
been
looking
at
changing
the
color
of
kiwi
fruit
and
bettering
the
taste
of
strawberries.
But
researchers
in
Brazil
and
Ireland
say
such
methods
could
also
offer
practical
advantages,
with
hot
tomatoes
offering
a
new
way
of
harvesting
the
pungent
chemicals
found
in
peppers
known
as
capsaicinoids,
which
make
food
taste
“hot”.
“Capsaicinoids
are
valuable.
They
are
used
as
painkillers
and
there
are
some
researches
showing
that
they
promote
weight
loss,”
said
Agustin
Zsogon
from
a
Brazilian
university,
a
co-author
of
a
new
article
arguing
for
the
benefits
of
engineering
hot
tomatoes.
Writing
in
the
journal
Trends
in
Plant
Science,
the
researchers
say
peppers
are
difficult
crops
to
grow
and
low
productive.
Worse
still,
it
is
tricky
to
keep
the
pungency
of
the
fruits
table.
By
contrast,
tomato
production
is
high
and
the
plant
is
well-studied.
“You
could
produce
the
capsaicinoids
in
a
more
cost-effective
manner,”
said
Zsogon.
Tomatoes
and
peppers
developed
from
a
common
ancestor,
but
separated
about
19
million
years
ago.
“All
these
genes
to
produce
capsaicinoids
exist
in
the
tomato,
they
are
just
not
active,”
said
Zsogon.
“Using
gene-editing
technology,
it
is
likely
to
switch
these
genes
back
on
in
tomatoes,
making
the
fruit
more
special”,
he
said.
12.
Why
are
the
tomatoes
made
hot
by
the
researchers?
A.
To
test
the
gene-editing
technology
B.
To
improve
the
amount
of
the
tomatoes
C.
To
explore
ways
to
harvest
more
capsaicinoids.
D.
To
make
the
tomatoes
more
delicious.
13.
For
what
purpose
can
capsaicinoids
be
used
according
to
the
text?
A.
To
put
on
weight.
B.
To
ease
the
pain.
C.
To
improve
sleep.
D.
To
better
the
look.
14.
What
is
Zsogon's
attitude
to
the
gene-editing
technology?
A.
Confident.
B.
Critical.
C.
Anxious.
D.
Doubtful.
15.
What's
the
main
idea
of
the
text?
A.
An
introduction
to
gene-editing
plants.
B.
Creating
hot
tomatoes
by
gene-editing.
C.
Problems
with
capsaicinoid
production.
D.
The
procedure
of
producing
capsaicinoids.

【解析】
【分析】本文是一篇说明文。对初为人父母的人来说,无论年龄多大,和孩子一起旅行都是一住可怕的事情,责任重大,旅途中的任何时候都可能发生意外。因此文章说明了四点和孩子们的第一次自驾游或度假需要考虑的事情。
【16题详解】
上文“Traveling
with
kids,
regardless
of
the
age,
is
a
terrible
experience
for
new
parents.(和孩子们一起旅行,无论年龄如何,对新父母来说都是一次可怕的经历)”说明带着孩子旅游是困难的,下文“Travel
expenses
also
might
be
unexpected
at
any
point
of
the
trip.(差旅费在旅行时也可能是无法预料的。)”说明带孩子旅行可能费用无法预料,因此推断空格出也是描述带着孩子旅行的责任重大,有许多意料不到的事情发生,B项“责任是重大的”符合语境,故选B项。
【17题详解】
根据段落标题Check
your
children's
passports可知,本段讲述有关护照的事情,上文“If
you
travel
a
lot,
you
probably
check
your
passport
regularly.(
如果你经常旅行,你可能会定期检查护照)”提到,你经常去旅行因此会定期检查自己的护照。F项中的“this
check”与上文的“check”一致,因此推断E项“当涉及孩子的情况时,你可能会忘记检查”承接上文内容,符合语境。故选E项。
【18题详解】
根据段落标题Get
a
child
locator(给孩子买定位器)可知,本段讲述有关孩子安全的问题。上文“There
are
usually
floods
of
people
at
the
airports
and
train
stations
and
many
parents
sometimes
lose
their
kids.(机场和火车站通常会有大量人群,许多父母有时会丢失孩子)”说明在过于拥挤的地方父母有时候会丢失孩子,D项
“受欢迎的旅游目的地也一样”说明热门的目的地也是很拥挤,与上文是并列关系,故选D项。
【19题详解】
空格处所填内容是本段的小标题。根据下文“When
traveling
with
an
entire
family,
try
to
travel
light.(当和全家一起旅行时,试着轻装旅行)”可知,本段主要是建议父母在出去旅行的时候不要带太多行李。A项“避免沉重的行李”体现了本段的核心内容,适合用作本段的小标题。故选A项。
【20题详解】
根据段落标题Keep
them
entertained
(让他们保持开心)可知本段讲述让孩子玩得开心,上文“You
can
encourage
them
to
create
a
travel
journal
or
smash
book,
read,
tell
each
other
stories.(
你可以鼓励他们写一本旅行日志或一本好书,互相阅读,讲故事)”可知,此处讲述鼓励孩子记录旅程的方式,故F项
“捕捉这些美妙时刻的相机是另一个好主意”符合语境,提出另一种记录旅程的方式。故选F项。
