Have
you
ever
wondered
why
hair
turns
gray
as
you
get
older
and
whether
there
is
something
you
can
do
to
prevent
graying
or
at
least
slow
it
down?
Here’s
a
look
at
what
causes
hair
to
turn
gray
and
some
of
the
factors
that
affect
graying.
The
age
at
which
you’ll
get
your
first
gray
hair(supposing
your
hair
doesn’t
simply
fall
out)
is
largely
decided
by
genetics.You’ll
probably
get
that
first
strand(缕)
of
gray
hair
around
the
same
age
your
parents
and
grandparents
started
to
go
gray.However,
the
rate
at
which
the
graying
progresses
is
somewhat
under
your
own
control.Smoking
is
known
to
increase
the
rate
of
graying.Generally
poor
nutrition,
insufficient
B
vitamins,
anemia,
and
untreated
thyroid(甲状腺)conditions
can
also
speed
the
rate
of
graying.
What
causes
your
hair’s
color
to
change?
That
has
to
do
with
the
process
controlling
the
production
of
the
paint
called
melanin(黑色素),the
same
material
that
tans
your
skin
in
response
to
sunlight.Every
hair
cell
contains
melanin
cells
called
melanocytes.The
melanocytes
produce
eumelanin(真黑素),which
is
black
or
dark
brown,
and
pheomelanin,
which
is
reddish-yellow,
and
pass
the
melanin
to
the
cells
which
produce
keratin
(角蛋白),
the
chief
protein
in
hair.When
the
keratin-producing
cells
die,
they
keep
the
coloring
from
the
melanin.When
you
first
start
to
go
gray,
the
melanocytes
are
still
present,
but
they
become
less
active.Less
paint
is
kept
into
the
hair
so
it
appears
lighter.
As
graying
progresses,
the
melanocytes
die
off
until
there
aren’t
any
cells
left
to
produce
the
color.While
this
is
a
normal
and
unavoidable
part
of
the
aging
process
and
is
not
of
itself
associated
with
disease,
some
autoimmune
diseases
can
cause
premature
graying.However,
some
people
start
going
gray
in
their
20s
and
are
perfectly
healthy.
Extreme
shock
or
stress
can
also
cause
your
hair
to
go
gray
very
quickly,
though
not
overnight.
( )4.What
determines
your
first
strand
of
gray
hair?
A.Genes.
B.Ages.
C.Nutrition.
D.Disease.
( )5.What
does
the
underlined
word
“tans”
in
paragraph

probably
mean?

A.It

C.It

made
of

Holidays
are
not
necessarily
for
fun
or
rest.Doing
something
meaningful
can
also
gain
special
pleasure.When
the
final
bell
rang,
the
students
were
reminded
that
there
was
no
school
on
Monday

the
Labor
Day.“Enjoy
your
extra
day
off,”said
the
teacher
to
her
class.
An
extra
day
of
fun
suited
Kayla
just
fine.She
loved
breaks.She
wanted
to
go
out
to
play
with
her
friends.When
the
school
bus
dropped
Kayla
off,
she
ran
into
the
house
happily.
“How
was
school,
Kayla?”
asked
her
mom.
“It
was
great,
Mom.I
am
excited
about
no
school
on
Monday.”
“You
just
started
back
to
school
two
weeks
ago.Already
in
need
of
a
break,
huh?”
asked
Kayla’s
mom
with
a
laugh.
Kayla
slept
in
the
next
morning.Saturday
was
her
favorite
day
of
the
week.It
rained
most
of
the
day,
so
Kayla
enjoyed
playing
video
games
inside.On
Sunday,
her
friends
came
over
and
they
played
basketball
for
several
hours.
Then
it
was
Labor
Day,
you
know,
the
extra
day
off
that
Kayla
was
so
looking
forward
to.But
Kayla
was
awakened
early
that
morning
by
her
dad.He
told
Kayla
that
in
honor
of
Labor
Day,
the
family
would
be
cleaning
both
inside
and
outside
the
house.Kayla
couldn’t
believe
it.This
was
a
holiday.A
day
when
she
was
supposed
to
be
enjoying
freshly
squeezed
lemonade
while
playing
in
her
tree
house.As
Kayla
wiped
her
eyes,
she
began
to
wonder
if
this
was
just
a
bad
dream.
“Kayla,
your
breakfast
is
ready.We
have
a
lot
of
work
to
do
today.Let’s
get
a
move
on,
”said
Kayla’s
mom.As
she
sat
down
at
the
kitchen
table,
Kayla
asked
her
parents,
“Are
you
serious
about
working
today?
Isn’t
Labor
Day
a
holiday?”
“Yes,
Kayla.It
is.”replied
her
dad.“But
your
mom
and
I
thought
working
hard
today
would
make
you
appreciate
why
Labor
Day
was
observed
in
the
first
place.”
注意:续写的词数应为150左右。
At
first,
Kayla
felt
disappointed
at
her

plan

4.A 细节理解题。根据第二段“The
age

which
you’ll
get
your
first
gray
hair
(supposing
your
hair
doesn’t
simply
fall
out)
is
largely

by
genetics.”可知,基因决定了你何时长第一缕白发。故选A项。
5.C 词义猜测题。根据画线单词前面“
That
has
to
do
with
the
process
controlling
the
production
of
the
paint
called
melanin
(黑色素)”和后面的“your
skin
in
response
to
sunlight”可知,黑色素是一种能在阳光下晒黑皮肤的物质。由此可推知,画线单词
“tans”的意思是“晒黑”,与sunburn的意思相同。故选C项。
6.B 推理判断题。根据第三段“What
causes
your
hair’s
color
to
change?
That
has
to
do
with
the
process
controlling
the
production
of
the
paint
called
melanin
(黑色素),the
same
material
that

they
keep
the

the

still

but
they
become
less
active.Less

【语篇解读】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了孙杨和刘湘在国际泳联冠军游泳系列赛中获得冠军的经过。
1.effective 考查形容词。根据前面的名词“my
training”和动词was可知,此处应用形容词。故填effective。
2.to
win 考查不定式。句意:我今年的目标是在奥运会上获胜。分析句子可知,此处表示目的,所以用“to+动词原形”。故填to
win。
3.by 考查介词。句意:在周二的200米自由泳比赛中以0.03秒输给了拉普西斯。在比赛中以多少分输给了对方一般用介词by。故填by。
4.perfectly 考查副词。此处应用副词修饰后面的动词showed。故填perfectly。
5.is 考查主谓一致。根据前面的he可知此处应用is。故填is。
6.a 考查冠词。get
a
cold是固定短语,意为“感冒”。故填a。
7.so 考查连词。句意:我三天前来这里后感冒了,所以我没想到能在个人最好成绩上扳平比分。根据句意可知,这两个分句之间是因果关系,所以用so。故填so。
8.has
collected 考查时态。时间状语“so
far”常与现在完成时连用,所以此处应用现在完成时。故填has
collected。
9.gathering 考查现在分词。根据前面的谓语动词is可知,此处应用非谓语动词;circuit与动词gather之间是主动关系,应用现在分词。故填gathering。
10.competition 考查名词。根据前面的形容词original可知,此处应用名词。故填competition。
