If
knowledge
is
power,
then
books
are
fuel
and
libraries
are
power
stations!
Here
are
four
amazing
libraries
that
can
get
you
positively
charged.
New
York
Public
Library—New
York
Opened
in
1911,
New
York
Public
Library
was
the
largest
marble
building
in
the
world.
Over
the
years
the
library
has
a
collection
of
53
million
items,
including
rare
first
edition
books,
300
million
pages
of
historical
newspapers
and
around
40
,000
restaurant
menus
dating
back
to
1850!
Chetham's
Library—
Manchester
Founded
in
1653,
Chetham's
Library
is
a
free
public
library
with
the
longest
history
in
the
UK.
The
building
itself
is
even
older
—built
in
1421,
it's
one
of
the
most
well—protected
medieval
buildings
in
England!
With
100
,000
+
books
lining
the
shelves,
the
special
atmosphere
of
the
library
attracts
students
and
scholars
alike
to
attend
guided
tours
offered
throughout
the
year.
The
Library
of
Congress
Washington,
D.
C.
Located
on
Capitol
Hill,
the
Library
of
Congress
is
considered
the
national
library
of
the
US
and
the
second
largest
library
in
the
world.
The
library
has
around
168
million
items,
adding
10
,000
to
this
number
every
day.
Need
to
catch
up
on
the
news?
The
Library
of
Congress,
which
was
founded
in
1800,
holds
the

in
the
world.
And
this
number
is
continually
growing
and
8
km
of
shelving
has
to
be
added
every
year!
This
is
partly
because
the
British
Library
must
receive
a
copy
of
every
publication
produced
in
the
UK
and
Ireland,
by
law.

B
Curtis
Fraser
was
a
fashion
designer.
One
afternoon
in
August,
when
he
reached
out
to
measure
some
materials,
he
lost
his
balance
and
fell
down.
The
accident
left
the
55—year—old
unable
to
use
his
hands
and
feet.
So
he
had
to
arrive
at
the
strange
London
to
begin
his
long
recovery
period.
Having
long
had
an
interest
in
birds,
he
discovered
Horatio's
Garden
London
&
South
East
before
long
which
belonged
to
the
hospital.
Then
he
visited
this
garden
at
least
once
a
day.
Working
in
the
garden
helped
his
hands
to
function
normally.
Not
only
that,
he
also
felt
that
there
was
a
different
feeling
when
he
was
in
nature.
He
loved
the
sweet
smell
of
the
flowers
and
the
colors
of
the
plants.
It's
therapeutic(治愈的).
Fraser
was
eventually
introduced
to
Ashley
Edwards,
the
head
gardener,
in
September,
for
one—to—one
gardening
lessons.
“When
Curtis
first
came
in,
he
had
very
little
hand
function
and
was
hardly
able
to
hold
tools,”
says
Edwards.
“He
required
a
lot
of
help
in
the
gardening
classes
but,
as
each
week
goes
by,
I’ve
seen
a
huge
improvement
in
his
movements.”
Fraser
recalls
the
first
lesson:
“It
was
80
good.
We
were
chatting
away
and
the
time
went
by
so
quickly.
Soon,
I
could
do
things
that
I
didn't
think
I
would
ever
do
again.”
For
Fraser,
the
garden
offered
relief(减轻)
from
the
painful
treatment.
“It
gave
me
clear
thoughts.
In
the
garden,
I'd
forget
that
I
was
in
hospital.
I'd
come
out
and
think,
‘Oh
man,
sill
here’—but
I'd
get
a
good
feeling
from
the
garden.”
Fraser
has
been
in
recovery
for
seven
months
and
left
hospital
on
March
1.
The
new
gardener
now
suggests
the
garden
to
fellow
patients,
who
return
to
tell
him
about
its
unique
benefits.
“That
garden
helped
my
recovery
so
much.
Even
for
a
little
moment,
I'd
tell
people
to
visit
one.
It
can
clear
your
mind.”
4.

Designing
houses.

Studying
materials.

we
infer
from
Edwards'
words?
A.
Gardening
benefited
Fraser.

a
gift
for
gardening.
D.
Garden
tools
were
hard
to
use.
6.
Why
did
Fraser
advise
patients
to
go

could
make
more
friends.

It
offered
an
escape
from
reality.
D.

could
get
free
classes
there.
7.

can
be
the

title
for
the
text?
A
An

A
parent
posted
on
Reddit
last
week
that
her
son’s
school
is
now
“zero
waste”.
In
order
to
save
money
on
the
trash(垃圾)
service,
school
leaders
have
taken
away
the
trash
cans.
She
wrote,
“They
are
not
taking
any
other
method
to
reduce
waste;
they
are
just
preventing
the
children
from
using
the
trash
can.
All
their
lunch
waste
must
go
home
with
them
in
their
lunch
box.”
Reactions
were
quick
and
fierce,
with
333
people
commenting
on
the
thread
that
is
now
closed.
Some
supported
the
original(最初)
poster,
saying
they’d
tell
their
kids
to
throw
the
trash
on
the
floor
if
trash
cans
weren’t
provided.
Most,
however,
challenged
the
parent's
perspective,
telling
her
that
this
isn't
a
bad
thing
and
sharing
their
own
experiences
of
schools
and
day
camps
that
have
been
zero
waste
for
years.
One
advised,
“Get
a
lunch
bag
and
then
pack
small
bread
sticks,
cut
fruits,
pasta
salads
etc
and
then
use
a
reusable
bag
for
sandwiches.”
Another
said,
“My
kid's
school
is
zero
waste.
Always
has
been.
They
bring
their
lunch
waste
home.
It's
never
been
a
thing.
If
anything,
it
makes
me
a
bit
more
mindful
of
how
school
lunches
are
packed.”
My
children's
school
has
always
told
us
to
pack
waste—free
lunches,
but
trash
cans
are
still
being
used.
I
do
think,
though,
that
their
presence
is
a
crutch(拐杖)
of
sorts.
Until
we
are
truly
forced
to
fight
with
the
waste
produced
by
our
habits,
we
won't
be
active
to
change
them.
By
forcing
kids
to
take
their
trash
home,
the
school
is
not
creating
a
real
problem
for
kids
and
parents,
just
an
inconvenience,
because
they
all
have
trash
cans
at
home.
But
the
movement
does
need
to
start
from
the
bottom,
perhaps
within
individual
classrooms
at
first,
before
being
put
upon
tired,
overworked
parents.
8.

the
parent

the
post?

Angry.
C.
Satisfied.
D.
Hopeful.
9.
What
does
the
underlined
word
“perspective”
in
paragraph
2
probably
mean?
A.
Patience.
B.
Behavior.
C.
Opinion.
D.
Intelligence
10.
What
advice
is
mentioned
in
the
passage?
A.
Taking
the
right
amount
of
food.
B.
Sharing
the
lunch
with
other
students.
C.
Thinking
of
good
ways
to
pack
the
lunch.
D.
Encouraging
children
to
eat
up
the
lunch.
11.
Why
does
the
author
think
of
the
trash
cans
as
a
crutch?
A.
People
can't
live
without
trash
cans.
B.
They
are
of
great
use
in
our
daily
life.
C.
They
help
people
develop
a
zero—waste
lifestyle.
D.
Their
presence
allows
the
possibility
of
wasting.
D
Horsemen
will
always
tell
you
that
horses
sense
emotions(情感),especially
fear.
Now
a
new
small
study
says
not
only
can
horses
sense
human
emotions,
they
can
also
read
human
expressions
and
remember
them
for
later.
Researchers
at
the
universities
in
the
UK
held
experiments
in
which
horses
were
shown
large
photos
of
either
an
angry
or
a
happy
person.
Several
hours
later,
the
horses
met
that
man
in
person
but
with
no
expression.
However,
the
horses
reacted
based
on
how
they
saw
the
man
in
the
photo,
turning
their
look
in
a
certain
direction.
When
horses
saw
the
person
they
had
seen
wearing
an
angry
look
in
the
photo,
they
spent
more
time
looking
with
the
left
eye.
They
also
showed
signs
of
anxiety(焦虑).
But
when
the
horses
saw
the
person
they
had
seen
smiling
in
the
photo,
they
spent
more
time
looking
with
the
right
eye.
“What
we've
found
is
that
horses
can
not
only
read
human
facial
expressions,
but
they
can
also
remember
a
person's
previous
(先前的)
emotional
state
when
they
meet
them
later
that
day,
and,
importantly,
that
they
change
their
behavior
accordingly,"
Professor
Karen
McComb
from
the
University
of
Sussex
said
in
a
statement.
The
horses
seemed
to
have
made
a
quick
judgment
on
the
person
based
only
on
the
expression
in
the
photo.
The
researchers
believe
having
this
ability
helps
horses
with
social
bonding
and
avoid
possible
dangers.
“It
is
quite
an
amazing
result
really,”
McComb
told
The
Guardian.
“It
is
really
interesting
that
animals
are
picking
up
on
the
detailed
emotional
expressions
that
humans
are
showing
on
a
moment—to—moment
basis.
Importantly
in
taking
that
information
in,
they
don't
forget
it,
but
they
use
it—they
have
a
memory
for
the
emotional
states
that
they
have
seen
in
humans
and
they
use
that
information.”
12.
What
can
be
learned
about
the
experiment?
A.
Horses
looked
at
previously
happy
people
with
the
right
eye.
B.
Horses
refused
to
see
people
with
no
expression.
C.
Horses
showed
curiosity
about
unhappy
expressions.
D.
Horses
preferred
to
see
the
photos
of
happy
people.
13.
How
can
horses
benefit
from
the
ability
mentioned
in
the
text?
A.
They
can
run
much
faster.
B.
They
can
better
protect
themselves.
C.
They
can
have
a
smarter
brain.
D.
They
can
better
express
themselves.
14.
What
does
the
underlined
word
“it”
in
the
last
paragraph
refer
to?
A.
The
information.
B.
The
ability.
C.
The
moment.
D.
The
result.
15.
What
is
mainly
talked
about
in
the
passage?
A.
Horses
have
a
talent
for
judging
photos.
B.
Horses
have
the
same
emotions
just
as
human
beings.
C.
Horses
can
read
human
expressions
and
learn
from

Horses
can
remember
and
react
to
people'
s
previous
look.

sleepy.
____16____
Long—term
effects
of
this
might
end
up
in
stress—related(压力相关的)
problems.
Thus
teens
are
especially
advised
not
to
study
or
work
till
midnight.
____17____
There
are
many
teens
who
spend
a
lot
of
time
in
front
of
mobiles
and
televisions
They
either
chat
with
their
friends
after
class
or
watch
various
television
programs.
This
habit
will
affect
their
eyes.
So
teenagers
should
limit
their
time
in
front
of
screens.
Not
being
on
time.
Not
being
on
time
can
create
a
lot
of
stress.
____18____
And
it
can
also
affect
your
mental
and
physical
health.
In
your
adulthood,
you
will
often
fail
to
attend
any
event
on
time.
Thus
staying
on
time
is
very
important."
Comparing
yourself
with
everyone
around
you.
Teenagers
have
a
terrible
habit
of
comparing
themselves
with
their
fellow
mates.
This
not
only
makes
them
feel
dissatisfied
at
the
moment
but
also
lowers
confidence
in
the
long
run.
Therefore,
you
should
stop
comparing
yourself
with
everyone.
____19____
Smoking.
____20____
We
all
know
smoking
causes
cancers
and
affects
our
body
in
many
other
harmful
ways.
So
teenagers
should
keep
away
from
tobacco
the
first
place.
Therefore,
it
is
very
important
to
avoid
smoking
and
be
well
aware
of
its
results.
A.
Wasting
time
in
front
of
screens.
B.
Only
in
this
way
can
you
make
great
progress.
C.
Instead,
learn
to
accept
yourself
as
who
you
are.
D.
Filling
in
love
with
unhealthy
television
programs.
E.
And
you
will
not
be
able
to
do
any
work
the
next
day.
F.
Finding
yourself
behind
everyone
can
affect
your
confidence.
G.
This
is
a
bad
habit
and
is
a
very
irresponsible(不负责任的)
act.

If
knowledge

then
books
are
fuel
and
libraries
are
power
stations!
Here
are
four
amazing
libraries
that
can
get

New

Public
Library—New

Opened

New

was
the
largest

in
the
world.
Over
the

the
library
has
a
collection
of
53
million
items,
including
rare
first
edition
books,
300
million
pages
of
historical
newspapers
and
around
40
,000
restaurant
menus
dating
back
to
1850!
Chetham's
Library—
Manchester
Founded
in
1653,
Chetham's
Library
is
a
free
public
library
with
the
longest
history
in
the
UK.
The
building
itself
is
even
older
—built
in
1421,
it's
one
of
the
most
well—protected
medieval
buildings
in
England!
With
100
,000
+
books
lining
the
shelves,
the
special
atmosphere
of
the
library
attracts
students
and
scholars
alike
to
attend
guided
tours
offered
throughout
the
year.
The
Library

And
this

is
continually
growing
and

year!
This
is
partly
because
the
British
Library
must
receive
a

of
every
publication
produced
in
the
UK
and
Ireland,
by
law.

his
hands
and
feet.
So
he
had
to
arrive
at
the
strange
London
to
begin
his
long
recovery
period.
Having
long
had
an
interest
in
birds,
he
discovered
Horatio's
Garden
London
&
South
East
before
long
which
belonged
to
the
hospital.
Then
he
visited
this
garden
at
least
once
a
day.
Working
in
the
garden
helped
his
hands
to
function
normally.
Not
only
that,
he
also
felt
that
there
was
a
different
feeling
when
he
was
in
nature.
He
loved
the
sweet
smell
of
the
flowers
and
the
colors
of
the
plants.
It's
therapeutic(治愈的).
Fraser
was
eventually
introduced
to
Ashley
Edwards,
the
head
gardener,
in
September,
for
one—to—one
gardening
lessons.
“When
Curtis
first
came
in,
he
had
very
little
hand
function
and
was
hardly
able
to
hold
tools,”
says
Edwards.
“He
required
a
lot
of
help
in
the
gardening
classes
but,
as
each
week
goes
by,
I’ve
seen
a
huge
improvement
in
his
movements.”
Fraser
recalls
the
first
lesson:
“It
was
80
good.
We
were
chatting
away
and
the
time
went
by
so
quickly.
Soon,
I
could
do
things
that
I
didn't
think
I
would
ever
do
again.”
For
Fraser,
the
garden
offered
relief(减轻)
from
the
painful
treatment.
“It
gave
me
clear
thoughts.
In
the
garden,
I'd
forget
that
I
was
in
hospital.
I'd
come
out
and
think,
‘Oh
man,
sill
here’—but
I'd
get
a
good
feeling
from
the
garden.”
Fraser
has
been
in
recovery
for
seven
months
and
left
hospital
on
March
1.
The
new
gardener
now
suggests
the
garden
to
fellow
patients,
who
return
to
tell
him
about
its
unique
benefits.
“That
garden

my
recovery
so
much.
Even
for
a
little
moment,
I'd
tell
people
to
visit
one.
It
can

【分析】这是一篇记叙文。短文叙述了柯蒂斯·弗雷泽是一名时装设计师。8月的一天下午,当他伸手去拿一些材料时,失去了平衡,摔倒了。这次事故导致55岁的他手脚瘫痪。雷泽在9月被介绍给首席园丁阿什利·爱德华兹接受一对一的园艺课程,这使得对弗雷泽恢复了健康。
【4题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“Having
long
had
an
interest
in
birds”(由于长期以来对鸟类很感兴趣)由此可知,弗雷泽的爱好是观鸟。故选B项。
【5题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“He

but,
as
each

I’ve
seen
a
huge

with
them
in
their

Horsemen

you
that
horses
sense
emotions(情感),especially
fear.
Now
a
new
small
study
says
not
only
can
horses
sense
human
emotions,
they
can
also
read
human
expressions
and
remember
them
for
later.
Researchers
at
the
universities
in
the
UK
held
experiments
in
which
horses
were
shown
large
photos
of
either
an
angry
or
a
happy
person.
Several
hours
later,
the
horses
met
that
man
in
person
but
with
no
expression.
However,
the
horses
reacted
based
on
how
they
saw
the
man
in
the
photo,
turning
their
look
in
a
certain
direction.
When
horses
saw
the
person
they
had
seen
wearing
an
angry
look
in
the
photo,
they
spent
more
time
looking
with
the
left
eye.
They
also
showed
signs
of
anxiety(焦虑).
But
when
the
horses
saw
the
person
they
had
seen
smiling
in
the
photo,
they
spent
more
time
looking
with
the
right
eye.
“What
we've
found
is
that
horses
can
not
only
read
human
facial
expressions,
but
they
can
also
remember
a
person's
previous
(先前的)
emotional
state
when
they
meet
them
later
that
day,
and,
importantly,
that
they
change
their
behavior
accordingly,"
Professor
Karen
McComb
from
the
University
of
Sussex
said
in
a
statement.
The
horses
seemed
to
have
made
a
quick
judgment
on
the
person
based
only
on
the
expression
in
the
photo.
The
researchers
believe
having
this
ability
helps
horses
with
social
bonding
and
avoid
possible
dangers.
“It
is
quite
an
amazing
result
really,”
McComb
told
The
Guardian.
“It
is
really
interesting
that
animals
are
picking
up
on
the
detailed
emotional
expressions
that
humans
are
showing
on
a
moment—to—moment
basis.
Importantly
in
taking
that
information
in,
they
don't
forget
it,
but
they
use
it—they
have
a
memory
for
the
emotional
states
that
they
have
seen
in
humans
and
they
use
that
information.”
12.
What
can

experiment?
A.
Horses

no
expression.
C.
Horses

curiosity
about
unhappy
expressions.
D.
Horses
preferred
to
see
the

of
happy
people.

____16____
Long—term

____17____
There

They
either
chat

Therefore,
you
should

causes
cancers
and
affects
our
body
in
many
other
harmful
ways.
So
teenagers
should
keep
away
from
tobacco
the
first
place.
Therefore,
it
is
very
important
to
avoid
smoking
and
be
well
aware
of
its
results.
A.
Wasting
time
in
front
of

B.
Only
in

can
you

【答案】Dear
Editor,
Last
week,
we
held
a
meeting
to
ask
students
about
the
new
rule
for
discipline.
Nearly
95%
of
the
students
support
the
rule,
saying
teachers
should
be
given
the
right
to
punish
those
troublesome
students
in
order
to
cure
them
of
their
bad
behaviors.
If
not,
some
of
them
will
form
a
bad
habit
and
even
ruin
their
own
future.
At
the
same
time,
we
can
get
a
better
study
environment.
However,
five
percent
of
the
students
are
against
the
rule
because
they
are
afraid
punishment
might
hurt
the
students’
pride
and
cause
a
bad
result.
As
far
as
I
am
concerned,
the
discipline
is
necessary.
But
the
teachers
should
adopt
proper
approaches
in
order
not
to
affect
students'
self—confidence
and
interest
in
study.
Yours,
Li
Hua
