Points
1.not
only…but
also…表示“不但……而且……”,用于连接两个并列的成分,着重强调后者,其中的also有时可以省略。Not
only

only…but
also…作主语时,谓语动词要根据but
also后的成分决定单复数形式(就近原则)。Not

2.confidence为名词,表示“信心”,常用结构:build
one’s
confidence意为“树立某人的信心”,have
confidence
in意为“对……有信心”。He

build
your
confidence
from
the
beginning.如果你想要成功,你必须从一开始就树立信心。
3.many
different
types
of…许多不同种的……,types也可以换成sorts或kinds。

as和for
example都有“例如”的意思,such
as表示“列举”,for
example表示“举例说明”。Boys

friendly.像约翰和詹姆斯这样的男孩都很友好。
For

invisible.例如,空气是看不见的。
5.take
up在此意为“开始从事;学着做;开始做”。
此外,take
up还可表示“占据”,既可以指时间上的“占据”,也可以指空间上的“占据”。Take
up

topic.开始一个新的话题。The

clock
takes
up
too
much
room.这个大钟占太多的地方。
6.“It’s
never
too
+adj.+to
do
sth.”意为“做某事永远都不太……”,It为形式主语,真正的主语是动词不定式短语。too…to…意为“太……而不能……”,本身有否定的意味。We

learn.活到老,学到老。
