1. produce
作及物动词,意为“出产、生产”,是后加名词或代词作宾语。
e.g. Our factory produces radios and televisions.
我们工厂生产收音机和电视机。
【拓展】product是produce 的名词形式,意为“产品”。
e.g. This kind of product sells well. Is that so
这种产品很畅销。是这样吗?

2. In the dream, he grew a new type of rice that was as big as a peanut.
在梦中,他种了一种想花生一样大的水稻。
句式as…as…表示程度相同,第一个as是副词,后加形容词或副词的原级。
e.g. ①Jim is as honest as Billy. 吉姆和比利一样诚实。
②She works as carefully as her sister. 她和她姐姐工作一样认真。
【拓展】句式not as (so) …as 表示一方不如另一方。
e.g. ①The weather in Beijing is not as (so) hot as that in Wuhan.
北京的天气不如武汉的天气热。
②I don’t run as (so) fast as you. 我不如你跑得快。
3.allow v.允许;准许
e.g. Her parents allow her to go to the party.
她的父母允许她去参加聚会。
allow的用法:
(1)allow (doing) sth.允许(做)某事
e.g. We don't allow eating in the classroom.
我们不允许在教室里吃东西。

(2)allow sb. to do sth.允许某人做某事
e.g. My parents don't allow me to go out at night.
我父母不允许我晚上出去。
(3)allow sb. sth.给予某人某物
e.g. He allows his son too much money.
他给他儿子太多的钱。
be allowed to do sth. 被允许做某事
e.g. He is allowed to go home.他被允许回家。

4.in the 1960s 在20世纪60年代
表示“在……世纪……年代”时,常用定冠词the,在年份后要加 s或 's。
e.g. This story took place in the1930s/1930's.
这个故事发生在20世纪30年代。

注意辨别 in the + 年份 s/年份 's 与in + 年份
in the+年份 s/年份 's 在……世纪……年代 He came to the US in the 1920s.他在20世纪20年代就来到了美国。
in + 年份 在……年 He was born in 1958.
他出生于1958年。
表示人的岁数段时,同样可以这样使用,但应将定冠词改为物主代词,即in one's+基数词 s。
e.g. He died in his forties.
他四十多岁就死了。

come up with相当于think up,无被动语态。
e.g. He came up with a way to work out the math problem.
他想出了一个解这道数学题的方法。
come up with还可意为“赶上”,相当于catch up with。
e.g. Let's walk slowly so that they can come up with us.
让我们走慢些,以便他们能赶上我们。

develop v. 发展
e.g. My father developed the little shop into a big store.

develop还可意为“养成;培养”。
