第一部分
阅读理解(共两节)
第一节:阅读下列短文,从每题中所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项
A
Before
the
end
of
the
year,
employees
at
Ubiquitous
Energy,
a
company
in
Redwood
City,
Calif,
will
gather
in
a
window-lined
conference
room
to
stare
toward
the
future.
That’s
because
their
new
glass
windows
will
offer
more
than
an
amazing
view
of
the
North
California
landscape.
They
will
also
be
able
to
power
the
company’s
lights,
computers
and
air
conditioners.
Several
years
in
the
making,
Ubiquitous’
energy-producing
glass
is
a
remarkable
technological
achievement.
Its
power
lies
in
the
layers
of
organic
polymers
(聚合物)
between
sheets
of
glass.
As
light
enters
the
window,
the
flow
of
electrons
between
the
polymer
layers
creates
an
electric
current,
which
is
then
collected
by
tiny
wires
in
the
glass.
“It’s
sort
of
like
a
transparent
computer
display
run
in
reverse
(反过来),”
says
Veeral
Hardev,
director
of
business
development
at
Ubiquitous
Energy.
“Instead
of
electricity
being
shuttled
to
different
points
in
a
display
to
light
them
up,
light
is
producing
electricity
to
be
shuttled
out
of
different
points
in
the
window.”
Right
now
the
windows
produce
about
a
third
as
much
electricity
from
a
given
amount
of
sunlight
as
the
typical
solar
cells
used
in
roof
panels
(板).These
windows,
about
half
as
transparent
as
ordinary
glass,
don’t
work
as
well
as
transparent
ones.
Hardev
says
the
company
is
likely
to
improve
the
transparency
significantly.
As
for
the
lower
output
of
electricity,
he
notes
that
windows
can
cover
a
much
greater
surface
area
than
a
roof,
so
numerous
windows
will
produce
a
surprisingly
larger
amount
of
electricity
than
the
production
from
a
rooftop
full
of
higher-efficiency
solar
panels.
“You
could
do
both.”
says
Hardev.
“But
you’ll
get
more
from
the
windows.
The
biggest
challenge,
he
adds,
is
increasing
the
windows
from
less
than
two
square
feet
currently
to
about
50
square
feet.”
1.
What
makes
the
new
glass
windows
special?
A.
They
can
offer
an
amazing
view.
B.
They
are
controlled
by
computers.
C.?They
can
power
the
conference
room.
D.
They
can
help
stare
toward
the
future.
2.
What
is
Hardev
trying
to
explain
in
Paragraph
3?
A.
The
source
of
light.
B.
The
significance
of
different
points.
C.
The
similarity
of
computer
and
glass.
D.
The
working
principle
of
energy-producing
glass.
3.
What
can
affect
power
production
according
to
the
passage?
A.
The
transparency
of
the
glass.
B.
The
quality
of
the
rooftop.
C.
The
height
of
the
solar
panels.
D.
The
thickness
of
the

4.
Which
of
the
following
is
the
best

The
possibility
of
self-driving
robot
cars
has
often
seemed
like
a
futurist’s
dream,
years
away
from
materializing
in
the
real
world.
Well,
the
future
is
apparently
now.
The
California
Department
of
Motor
Vehicles
began
giving
permits
in
April
for
companies
to
test
truly
self-driving
cars
on
public
roads.
The
state
also
cleared
the
way
for
companies
to
sell
or
rent
out
self-driving
cars,
and
for
companies
to
operate
driverless
taxi
services.
California,
it
should
be
noted,
isn’t
leading
the
way
here.
Companies
have
been
testing
their
vehicles
in
cities
across
the
country.
It’s
hard
to
predict
when
driverless
cars
will
be
everywhere
on
our
roads.
But
however
long
it
takes,
the
technology
has
the
potential
to
change
our
transportation
systems
and
our
cities,
for
better
or
for
worse,
depending
on
how
the
transformation
is
regulated.
While
much
of
the
debate
so
far
has
been
focused
on
the
safety
of
driverless
cars
(and
rightfully
so),
policymakers
also
should
be
talking
about
how
self-driving
vehicles
can
help
reduce
traffic
jams,
cut
emissions
and
offer
more
convenient,
affordable
mobility
options.
The
arrival
of
driverless
vehicles
is
a
chance
to
make
sure
that
those
vehicles
are
environmentally
friendly
and
more
shared.
Do
we
want
to
copy
-
or
even
worsen
-
the
traffic
of
today
with
driverless
cars?
Imagine
a
future
where
most
adults
own
individual
self-driving
vehicles.
They
tolerate
long,
slow
journeys
to
and
from
work
on
packed
highways
because
they
can
work,
entertain
themselves
or
sleep
on
the
ride,
which
encourages
urban
spread.
They
take
their
driverless
car
to
an
appointment
and
set
the
empty
vehicle
to
circle
the
building
to
avoid
paying
for
parking.
Instead
of
walking
a
few
blocks
to
pick
up
a
child
or
the
dry
cleaning,
they
send
the
self-driving
minibus.
The
convenience
even
leads
fewer
people
to
take
public
transport
-
an
unwelcome
side
effect
researchers
have
already
found
in
ride-hailing
(叫车)services.
A
study
from
the
University
of
California
at
Davis
suggested
that
replacing
petrol-powered
private
cars
worldwide
with
electric,
self-driving
and
shared
systems
could
reduce
carbon
emissions
from
transportation
80%
and
cut
the
cost
of
transportation
infrastructure
and
operations
40%
by
2050.
Fewer
emissions
and
cheaper
travel
sound
pretty
appealing.
The
first
commercially
available
driverless
cars
will
almost
certainly
be?fielded?by
ride-hailing
services,
considering
the
cost
of
self-driving
technology
as
well
as
liability
and
maintenance
issues
(责任与维护问题).
But
driverless
car
ownership
could
increase
as
the
prices
drop
and
more
people
become
comfortable
with
the
technology.
Policymakers
should
start
thinking
now
about
how
to
make
sure
the
appearance
of
driverless
vehicles
doesn’t
extend
the
worst
aspects
of
the
car-controlled
transportation
system
we
have
today.
The
coming
technological
advancement
presents
a
chance
for
cities
and
states
to
develop
transportation
systems
designed
to
move
more
people,
and
more
affordably.
The
car
of
the
future
is
coming.
We
just
have
to
plan
for
it.
5.
As
for
driverless
cars,
what
is
the
author’s
major
concern?
A.
Safety.
B.
Side
effects.
C.
Management.
D.
Affordability.
6.
What
does
the
underlined
word
“fielded”
in
Paragraph
4
probably
mean?
A.
Shared.
B.
Replaced.
C.
Reduced.
D.
Employed.
7.
What
is
the
author’s
attitude
to
the
future
of
self-driving
cars?
A.
Positive.
B.
Doubtful.
C.
Disapproving.
D.
Sympathetic.
C
There
is
an
old
joke
among
pilots
that
says
the
ideal
flight
crew
is
a
computer,
a
pilot
and
a
dog.
The
computer's
job
is
to
fly
the
plane.
The
pilot
is
there
to
feed
the
dog.
And
the
dog's
job
is
to
bite
the
pilot
if
he
tries
to
touch
the
computer.
Handling
complex
tasks
to
computers
is
not
new.
But
recent
progress
in
machine
learning,
a
subfield
of
artificial
intelligence
(AI),
has
enabled
computers
to
handle
many
problems
which
were
previously
beyond
them.
The
result
has
been
an
AI
boom,
with
computers
moving
into
everything
from
medical
diagnosis
and
insurance
to
self-driving
cars.
There
is
a
problem,
though.
Machine
learning
works
by
giving
computers
the
ability
to
train
themselves,
which
adapts
their
programming
to
the
task
at
hand.
People
struggle
to
understand
exactly
how
those
self-written
programs
do
what
they
do.
When
algorithms(运算法)are
doing
small
tasks,
such
as
playing
chess
or
recommending
a
film
to
watch,
this
“black
box”
problem
can
be
safely
ignored.
When
they
are
deciding
who
gets
a
loan,
or
how
to
drive
a
car
through
a
crowded
city,
it
is
potentially
harmful.
And
when
things
go
wrong,
then
customers,
regulators(调控者)and
the
courts
will
want
to
know
why.
For
some
people
this
is
a
reason
to
hold
back
AI.
France's
digital-economy
minister,
Mounir
Mabjoubi,
has
said
that
the
government
should
not
use
any
algorithm
whose
decisions
cannot
be
explained.
But
that
is
an
overreaction.
The
difficulties
caused
by
clever
computers
are
not
unheard
of.
Society
already
has
plenty
of
experience
dealing
with
problematic
black
boxes;
the
most
common
are
called
human
beings,
who
can't
even
figure
out
what's
going
on
in
a
brain.
In
response
to
the
weakness
in
humans,
society
has
evolved
a
series
of
workable
coping
mechanisms(应对机制),
called
laws,
rules
and
regulations.
Many
of
these
can
be
applied
to
machines
as
well.
Humans
have
worked
with
computers
on
complex
tasks
for
decades.
One
lesson
from
such
applications
is
that,
wherever
possible,
people
should
supervise(监督)the
machines.
In
that
joke,
pilots
are
necessary
in
case
something
happens
that
is
beyond
the
scope
of
artificial
intelligence.
As
computers
spread,
companies
and
governments
should
ensure
the
first
line
of
defence
is
a
real
person
who
can
overrule
the
algorithms
if
necessary.
AI
is
bound
to
suffer
some
troubles.
But
it
also
promises
extraordinary
benefits
and
the
difficulties
it
poses
are
not
unprecedented(无先例的).
If
the
new
black
boxes
prove
tricky,
there
will
be
time
to
toughen
the
rules.
8.
Why
is
the
joke
mentioned
in
Paragraph
1?
A.To
make
people
laugh.
B.To
predict
future
airplane
industry.
C.To
introduce
the
latest
model
of
airplanes.
D.To
raise
people's
awareness
of
computers
performing
complex
tasks.
9.
What
has
caused
the
increasing
application
of
computers
in
various
fields?
A.The
shortage
of
labor
force.
B.The
rise
of
artificial
intelligence.
C.The
encouragement
of
governments.
D.The
development
of
economy
10.Why
are
some
people
opposed
to
AI
according
to
the
article?
A.Black
boxes
always
go
wrong
B.AI
may
become
too
smart
to
be
controlled
by
human
beings.
C.They
don't
understand
how
AI
works.
D.Computers
are
trying
to
replace
human
beings.

Will
Traditional
TV
Ever
Be
Replaced
by
Streaming?
For
a
long
time,
people
had
to
listen
to
the
radio
to
get
news,
drama,
and
music
at
home.
This
all
changed
with
the
development
of
the
television
in
the
early
20th
century.
__11__
Since
then,
British
TV
viewers
have
enjoyed
the
launch
of
commercial

the
addition
of
Channel

and
then

and
finally
the
birth
of
paid
services
through
satellite
and
cable.
A
Slow
Decline
While
the
uptake
of
TV
ownership
exploded,
the
decline
of
television’s
dominance
has
been
slow
and
has
been
going
on
for
the
past
decade.
__12__
Streaming
services
have
given
us
access
to
more
content
than
was
ever
possible,
including

Changing
Viewing
Habits
In
the
UK,
adults
are
spending
more
time
watching
content
on
YouTube
and
streaming
services
than
ever
before.
In
2018,
these
figures
were
30
minutes
and
26
minutes
per
day
respectively.
__13__
Still
the
King
__14__
For
example,
in
2018
UK
adults
continued
to
watch
BBC

for
an
average
of
41
minutes
per
day,
more
than
any
streaming
service.
Average
viewing
time
for
all
traditional
TV
channels
continues
to
decline
though,
despite
much
larger
quantities
of
original
content
being
produced
by
these
organizations.
__15__
While
the
traditional
TV
networks
have
seen
a
decline,
the
television
set
itself
doesn’t
look
like
it’s
going
anywhere
any
time
soon.
A.
This
has
been
the
trend
for
the
past
decade.
B.
The
original
content
has
included
massively
popular
shows.
C.
Suddenly,
we
were
able
to
see
what
was
going
on,
not
just

D.
The
traditional
TV
channels
are
taking
away
audiences
from
streaming
services.
E.
Most
major
TV
channels
have
their
own
catch

F.
While
demand
for
streaming
services
is
up,
the
main
UK

continue
to
be
the
most
watched
overall.
G.
Today,
we
