三、阅读理解
A
When
I
was
growing
up,
Mother's
Day
was
as
important
as
Christmas.
The
energy
around
the
house
was
always
positive
(积极的),
mostly
thanks
to
my
father
who
made
sure
that
his
kids
appreciated
their
mother.
We
would
clean
the
house,
and
Mum
got
breakfast
in
bed
in
the
morning
and
didn't
have
to
lift
a
finger
all
day.
And
in
the
evening,
we
went
to
a
restaurant
for
a
traditional
Mother's
Day
dinner.
What
I
learned
from
my
father
over
the
years,
was
that
no
matter
what,
he
always
put
my
mother
before
himself.
He
absolutely
loved
her
and
never
let
her
forget
that.
And
from
my
parents,
I
learned
a
thing
or
two
about
how
to
love.
I
maintain
(保持)
my
father's
Mother's
Day
tradition
with
my
wife.
Growing
up,
I
learned
that
showing
affection
to
the
woman
you
love
or
who
gave
birth
to
you
is
an
important
part
of
life.
You
see,
it
goes
both
ways,
and
the
love
you
have
for
your
mother
comes
back
to
you
again
and
again.
Believing
that
and
feeling
it
when
you
can
may
keep
you
from
being
lonely,
even
if
your
mum
isn't
close
by
or
has
passed
away.
There
are
a
number
of
us
who
no
longer
have
a
mother
in
our
lives,
and
truth
be
told,
there
are
often
times
when
I
wish
my
mum
were
still
here
to
comfort
me.
So
instead,
I
remember
the
times
she
did
just
that.
It
makes
me
smile,
and
somehow,
those
memories
of
a
more
simple
and
loving
life
give
me
the
comfort
I'm
looking
for.
My
wife's
mother
is
still
around,
however,
and
it's
great
to
have
that
“mother
energy”
in
my
life
still.
Having
this
relationship
with
my
mother?in?law
is
nice
because
it
gives
me
someone
to
be
there
for
on
Mother's
Day,
and
any
other
day
of
the
year.
If
you
are
mum?less,
you
too
should
find
a
deserving
woman
in
your
life
and
celebrate
Mother's
Day
with
her.
If
you
don't
know
anyone,
there
are
plenty
of
lonely
mums
in
rest
homes
who
would
enjoy
your
company
for
a
couple
of
hours.
The
visit
will
make
both
of
your
days,
and
perhaps
your
lives,
a
little
bit
better.

B
In
October,
I
told
the
eight?year?olds
in
the
class
I
teach
in
Pompton
Lakes,
New
Jersey,
about
my
plan.
“Since
all
of
you
have
done
extra
jobs
around
the
house
to
earn
some
money,”
I
said,
“then
we'll
buy
food
for
a
Thanksgiving
dinner
for
someone
who
might
not
have
a
nice
dinner
otherwise.”
I
watched
them
while
they
walked
up
and
down
the
supermarket.
“Flowers!”
Kristine
cried.
The
group
rushed
towards
the
holiday
plants.
“You
can’t
eat
flowers.”—It
was
wiser
to
use
any
extra
money
to
buy
something
that
could
be
turned
into
meals.
“But
Mrs
Sherlock,”
came
the
begging
voice,
“we
want
flowers.”
Defeated
finally,
I
put
a
pot
of
“funny”
purple
mums
in
the
cart
full
of
foods.
“She'll
like
this
one,”
the
children
agreed.
An
organisation
had
given
us
the
name
and
address
of
a
needy
grandmother
who
had
lived
alone
for
many
years.
We
finally
pulled
up
in
front
of
a
small
house.
A
slightly?built
woman
with
a
weary
face
came
to
the
door
to
welcome
us.
My
little
group
ran
to
get
the
foods.
As
each
box
was
carried
in,
the
old
woman
kept
on
saying
“Thanks.”—much
to
her
visitors'
pleasure.
When
Amy
put
the
mums
on
the
counter,
the
woman
seemed
surprised.
She's
wishing
it
was
a
bag
of
rice,
I
thought.
We
returned
to
the
car.
As
we
fastened
our
seat
belts,
we
could
see
the
kitchen
window.
The
woman
inside
waved
goodbye,
then
turned
and
walked
across
the
room,
past
the
turkey,
past
the
goods,
straight
to
the
mums.
She
put
her
face
in
them.
When
she
raised
her
head,
there
was
a
smile
on
her
lips.
She
was
transformed
(转变)
before
our
eyes.
The
children
were
quiet.
At
that
moment,
they
had
seen
for
themselves
the
power
they
have
to
make
another's
life
better.
The
children
had
sensed
that
sometimes
a
person
needs
a
pot
of
funny
purple
flowers
on
a
dark
November
day.

to
change
the
world.

of
kindness
can

flowers

well.

have
different
thoughts
from
adults.

word
“mums”

in
the
passage?

did
the

“funny”?

she
thought
they
were
too
ugly.
B.Because
she
thought
they
were
for
children.

she
thought
they
were
too
expensive.
D.Because
she
thought
they
couldn't
help
people
in
need.
8.What
can
we
know
from
the
passage?
A.
The
old
woman
preferred
food
to
flowers.
B.Flowers
are
more
important
than
food
to
the
poor.
C.The
old
woman's
dark
day
was
brightened
by
the
children.
D.All
the
money
the
children
earned
was

food.
四、选词创境
运用下列写作词汇,自己创设一个语境,形成一个小语段。
tradition,gathering,sweep
away,teenager,put
up,attach...to,custom,let
off,memory,decoration
top为形容词,意为“最好的”。
一、单词拼写
1.barbecue 2.graduation 3.original 4.behaviour 5.snack
6.retire 7.flight 8.Somehow 9.select 10.Nowhere
二、单句语法填空
1.occasional 2.decorated 3.scary 4.attached 5.immediate
6.traditionally 7.expectantly 8.surrounded 9.appropriately 10.retirement
三、阅读理解
1.A 细节理解题。根据第二段内容可知,作者家里的气氛总是很温馨、和谐,这主要感谢他的父亲,他确保孩子们感恩他们的母亲……由此可知作者从父亲身上学到向所爱的人表达爱是很有必要的。故选A项。
2.C 细节理解题。根据第四段中的“...
I
learned
that
showing
affection
to
the
woman
you
love
or
who
gave
birth
to
you
is
an
important
part
of
life.
You
see,
it
goes
both
ways,
and
the
love
you
have
for
your
mother
comes
back
to
you
again
and
again.
”可知,作者重视对母亲表达爱的想法是因为这能温暖你和妈妈。故选C项。
3.C 细节理解题。根据第四段第一句“I
maintain(保持)
my
father's
Mother's
Day
tradition
with
my
wife.”可知,作者婚后和妻子保持着过母亲节的传统。故选C项。
4.D 推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“If
you
don't
know
anyone,
there
are
plenty
of
lonely
mums
in
rest
homes
who
would
enjoy
your
company
for
a
couple
of
hours.
The
visit
will
make
both
of
your
days,
and
perhaps
your
lives,
a
little
bit
better。”可知,作者对失去母亲的人的建议是在母亲节那天在养老院看望孤独的妈妈们。故选D项。
5.B 主旨大意题。作者号召孩子们给无法享用美味晚餐的人购买感恩节晚餐所需的食物,在孩子们的强烈要求下买了一盆紫色的菊花。老太太看到花后,把脸埋在花里,然后露出了微笑。孩子们的善举和鲜花改变了老太太的心情和生活。故选B项。
6.C 词义猜测题。根据孩子们说的“Flowers!”“we
want
flowers.”和最后一段中的a
person
needs
a
pot
of
funny
purple
flowers
可知,作者应孩子们的强烈要求买了一盆紫色的花,因此
mums
是花。故选C项。
7.D 推理判断题。根据第三段“You
can't
eat
flowers.”-It
was
wiser
to
use
any
extra
money
to
buy
something
that
could
be
turned
into
meals.
和第七段最后一句可知,作者认为买花是不明智的,不如买食物材料,所以作者认为买的花“funny”是因为它不能真正帮助需要帮助的人。故选D项。
8.C 推理判断题。根据最后两段中的…straight
to
the
mums.
She
put
her
face
in
them.
When
she
raised
her
head,
there
was
a
smile
on
her
lips.
She
was
transformed
before
our
eyes.和
The
children
had
sensed
that
sometimes
a
person
needs
a
pot
of
funny
purple
flowers
on
a
dark
November
day.可知,老太太看到花后,把脸埋在花里,然后露出了微笑,孩子们也意识到在阴暗的11月中,有时人们需要一盆紫色的花,由此可知是孩子们照亮了老妇人黑暗的日子。故选C项。
