It
was
nearly
lunch
time
when
we
arrived
at
Hamburg,
so
our
local
partners
walked
into
the
restaurant.
We
noticed
that
there
was
a
table
where
1
young
couple
was
having
their
meal.
2
,
there
were
only
two
dishes
and
two
bottles
of
beer
on
the
table.
I
doubted
3
such
a
simple
meal
could
be
pleasant.
There
4
a
few
old
women
on
another
table.
When
a
dish
5
,
the
waiter
would
divide
the
food
for
them.
Then
they
would
finish
all
the
food
on
6
plates.
Our
partners
ordered
more
food
for
us.
When
we
left,
there
was
still
about
7
of
food
on
the
table.
When
we
were
leaving,
the
old
women
stopped
us
and
8
us
that
we
shouldn’t
waste
so
much
food.
“We
9
for
our
food.
It
has
10
to
do
with
you
how
much
food
we
left
behind,”
one
of
my
partner
said.
The
old
women
were
very
11
.
One
of
them
made
a
call
to
someone
at
once.
After
a
while,
a
man
12
uniform
arrived.
He
gave
us
a
50-doar
fine.
He
said
in
a
serious
voice,
“Order
what
you
can
eat
up.
Money
is
yours,
13
resources
belong
to
the
society.
There
are
many
people
14
are
in
great
need
of
resources.”
We
all
felt
ashamed.
We
should
try
our
best
15
15
resources.

二、完形填空
阅读下面短文,掌握其大意,然后从各小题所给的A、B、C和D项中选出最佳选项。
When
I
was
a
little
boy,
something
happened
to
me
that
made
me
never
put
any
wild
creature
in
a
cage.
I
lived
near
a
forest,
and
every
evening
the
mockingbird(知更鸟)would
come
and
16
.
I
decided
to
catch
a
young
17
and
keep
it
in
a
cage,
and
in
this
way,
I
would
have
my
own
private
musician.
Then
I
succeeded
in
catching
one
and
put
it
in
a
cage.
At
first,
the
bird
was
18
,
so
it
fluttered(扑腾)in
the
cage.
But
finally
it
was
used
to
living
in
its
new
home.
I
felt
very
excited
with
myself
and
19
some
beautiful
singing.
On
the
second
day,
the
little
bird’s
mother
flew
to
the
cage
with
20
in
her
mouth.
The
baby
bird
ate
everything.
I
was
21
to
see
this.
Certainly
the
mother
bird
knew
how
to
feed
her
baby
better
than
I
did.
The
following
morning
when
I
went
to
see
my
bird,
I
found
it
22
on
the
floor
of
the
cage.
I
was
terribly
surprised
and
sad!
What
had
happened
Arthur
Wayne,
a
famous
biologist,
happened
to
23
my
father
at
that
time.
After
she
knew
my
story,
she
explained
to
me,
“A
mother
mockingbird,
finding
her
young
in
a
cage,
will
24
bring
it
poison
berries(毒浆果).
She
thinks
it
better
for
her
baby
to
die
than
to
lose
25
.”
Since
then
I
have
never
caught
any
living
creature
and
put
it
in
a
cage.
All
living
things
have
the
right
to
live
free.

Marco
Polo
Marco
Polo
was
born
in
Italy
in
1254.
As
a
traveller
and
businessman,
he
was
one
of
the
first
Europeans
to
travel
across
Asia
and
into
China.
His
journey
lasted
24
years.
He
set
out,
aged
17,
with
his
father
Nicolo
and
his
uncle
Maffeo
on
their
great
journey
to
China.
They
sailed
south
from
Venice,
Italy
and
stopped
off
in
the
Middle
East.
They
often
carried
on
overland
to
Persia(now
Iran),
through
the
Pamir
Mountains
and
the
Gobi
Desert
before
they
got
to
Beijing,
China.
At
that
time,
China
was
more
advanced
than
Europe.
They
already
had
paper,
a
large
number
of
books
were
available.
They
also
used
paper
money
in
many
parts
of
the
country.
After
he
got
back
to
Italy,
Marco
Polo
talked
about
his
experiences
in
China,
and
he
wrote
a
book
describing
the
riches
of
Asia.
His
book
was
the
first
western
record
of
porcelain(瓷器),
coal,
gunpowder,
printing
and
silk.
Unfortunately,
not
many
people
believe
Polo’s
stories
and
he
became
known
as
“the
man
of
a
million
lies”.
He
died
in
1324.
Jacques
Cousteau
Jacques
Cousteau
was
a
French
undersea
explorer,
environmentalist
and
inventor.
He
was
born
in
France
in
1910.
When
he
was
young,
he
was
attracted
by
the
sea,
machines
and
filmmaking.
In
the
French
navy,
Cousteau
began
exploring
underwater
and
worked
on
a
special
breathing
machine
which
allowed
divers
to
stay
underwater
for
several
hours.
This
gave
them
time
to
really
look
around
under
the
ocean.
In
1948,
Cousteau
began
travelling
the
world’s
oceans
in
his
research
ship
Calypso.
Cousteau
produced
many
films
and
books
about
his
underwater
experiences,
including
the
TV
series
The
Underwater
World
of
Jacques
Cousteau,
which
introduced
the
world
of
sharks,
whales,
dolphins
and
treasure
to
the
public.
Cousteau
started
the
Cousteau
Society
to
protect
ocean
life.
In
1989,
he
received
a
great
honour:
he
was
made
a
member
of
the
French
Academy.
Finally,
after
a
long
and
varied
life,
Cousteau
died
on
25
June,
1997.

(B)
Rachel
Carson(1907-1964)was
a
pioneer
of
the
world’s
environmental
movement
through
her
writing
of
protecting
the
natural
world.
Her
162
book
Silent
Spring
made
her
well
known
by
many
people.
It
describes
the
harmful
changes
in
the
environment
of
using
toxic(有害的)chemicals
on
farmland.
Carson’s
career
started
as
a
biologist
in
the
US
Bureau
of
Fisheries.
In
1951
she
published
her
first
book,
The
Sea
Around
Us,
which
became
a
bestseller.
It
made
her
rich
enough
to
leave
her
job
and
devote
her
life
to
writing.
She
was
a
gifted
writer.
Her
next
two
books
were
also
about
the
oceans
and
both
topped
the
book
sales
lists.
Carson’s
book
Silent
Spring
completely
changed
the
way
Americans
thought
about
nature.
This
landmark
work,
which
took
Carson
4
years
to
complete,
diligently
detailed
the
relationship
between
animal
death
and
the
use—now
understood
as
the
abuse
of
man-made
chemicals
used
as
pesticides(杀虫剂),
especially
a
deadly
chemical
called
DDT.
One
of
the
claims
of
the
book
that
she
tried
to
tell
the
readers
was
that
DDT
had
the
effect
of
softening
the
eggshells
of
birds
as
well
as
affecting
the
birds’
birth,
and
that
such
effects
would
lead
to
their
extinction(灭绝)if
the
use
of
DDT
were
to
continue.
It
would
eventually
create
a
spring
time
of
silence
when
the
songs
of
birds
would
not
be
heard.
Her
studies
also
found
DDT
to
be
a
cause
of
human
cancers.
It
led
to
a
nationwide
ban(禁止)on
the
use
of
DDT,
and
other
toxic
pesticides
that
farmers
used
for
their
crops.
Many
people
say
the
book
led
to
the
creation
of
America’s
Environmental
Protection
Agency.
Since
her
death,
Carson’s
name
has
continued
to
be
connected
with
protecting
the
environment.
There
is
now
a
yearly
Rachel
Carson
Book
Prize.
Norway
awards
the
Rachel
Carson
Book
Prize
to
women
who
have
made

civilian
honour

Your
Internet
experience
is
terrible
when
the
net
speed
is
too
slow—it
takes
so
long
to
open
a
web
page
and
the
film
you’re
watching
stops
every
few
minutes.
That
can
be
very
annoying.
But
it
could
be
a
thing
of
the
past.
In
the
near
future,
major
telecom
carriers
will
start
to
provide(提供)5G
services.
What
is
5G
What
difference
will
it
really
make
to
our
lives
The
“G”
in
“5G”
refers
to
the
generations
of
mobile
network
technologies.
1G
let
us
talk
to
each
other,
2G
let
us
send
messages,
3G
gave
us
mobile
data
and
the
Internet,
and
4G
made
all
of
these
things
faster.
Now
5G
promises
much
faster
data
download
and
upload
speeds,
and
more
stable
connections.
This
means
that
you
will
be
able
to
download
an
entire
HD
movie
in
seconds
and
only
experience
a
short
delay(延迟)between
sending
and
receiving
data.
For
example,
when
you
have
a
video
chat
with
your
friend,
there
is
generally
a
200
milliseconds
delay
with
4G,
but
5G
will
reduce
the
delay
to
1
millisecond,
which
is
almost
real
time.
5G
will
be
able
to
improve
many
advanced
technologies,
such
as
driverless
cars,
wearable
devices
and
entertainment(娱乐).
With
a
5G
network,
the
short
delay
in
information
exchange
will
allow
driverless
cars
to
run
more
safely,
as
they
will
be
able
to
communicate
in
real
time
and
avoid
dangers.
Meanwhile,
5G-enabled
wearable
devices
will
keep
doctors
updated
on
the
health
status
of
their
patients,
so
doctors
can
give
patients
advice
immediately
if
there’s
something
wrong.
Besides,
VR
games
will
become
more
popular
with
5G.
The
short
delay
of
5G
will
make
the
games
feel
even
more
real.
Though
5G
will
make
our
lives
more
convenient,
it
will
not
be
perfect.
For
one
thing,
5G
will
not
“travel”
far.
On
4G
networks,
you
can
be
10
kilometres
away
from
the
nearest
transmission
base(基站)and
barely
lose
signals(信号).
But
5G
will
only
cover
about
300
metres,
meaning
that
we
will
need
more
transmitters
so
that
we
can
get
signals.
And
in
order
to
use
5G,
we
will
have
to
buy
new
products
specifically
designed
for
5G
that
are
currently
expensive.
