In order to reduce the stress on the students, Nanjing No. 1 High School has 11 a "mark bank". The bank lets students "borrow" marks 12 they can pass exams, and then repay them in later tests.
Here's 13 it works: The "mark bank"allows students to 14 marks if they fail the exam. But, just like real banks, it requires "clients(客户)" to pay back the loan(贷款) on time, with interest(利息). So students have to pay for the loan by getting extra marks in future exams. Some teachers also allow the students to repay the bank 15 doing lab experiments or giving public speeches. Students who don't pay back their loans are blacklisted(列入黑名单) by the bank, just like in real life. "I was sick before the mid-term exams and missed several geography classes," one student said. "I failed the exam so I am glad that the ‘mark bank' gave me a 16 to pass the exam."
17 many people think the "mark bank" is a great idea, not 18 supports the idea. Education expert Xiong Bingqi, for example, believes 19 the "mark bank" is not proper, but thinks that it takes stress off the students. Others think that such an idea just causes students to be 20 in their studies.

In John Burke's creative photography class at Boone High School, US, students got an interesting assignment(任务): record how COVID-19 has changed people's lives.
The kids had no shortage of ideas. They took photos of empty refrigerators, discarded(丢弃的) face masks, and at-home haircuts.
Tristan Kaos Green, 17, decided to photograph an empty school courtyard(院子). "I was thinking about the feeling I had when I first came back to school after COVID-19 had happened. None of the faces I used to see were there anymore," Green said. "It was kind of scary, and lonely."
In his photo, Green is alone, wearing a face mask, with his school ID around his neck and his backpack over one shoulder. The photo has a cold look and feel.
Burke said he often discusses how to come up with interesting in class. "Observe(观察) your community, observe yourself." he tells his students. He was surprised by how deep his students’ ideas were.
Caitlyn Jaryszak photographed her 2-year-old sister. She is seen wearing a face mask and holing an expandable(可膨胀的) ball. The picture gives the sense that the little girl is in a cage. Caitlyn wanted to show how much her youngest sister’s life has been limited by the virus. " I feel like she hasn’t been able to explore."
Burke believe that this assignment has helped his students connect with each other. "It also helps them cope(应对挑战). I’m anxious, but I see you’re anxious," Burke said.

The face-down generation(一代)
If you were born in the 2000s, you are called the oh-ohs. The 21st century---that would make you young, creative, connected, world-wide, and no doubt smart. Maybe good-looking, too. Right But what do other people think about your generation
Some adults worry that you’re more interested in the screen in front of you than the world around you. They think of you as the "face - down generation" because you use your phones so much. They wonder how you will deal with school, friends, and family.
Other adults worry that today's youth are spoilt (溺爱) and don't want to face the challenges of adult
life. Many children born in the 1990s and 2000s were raised by "helicopter parents". They were always there to guide and help their children with a busy program filled with homework and after-school activities such as dancing, drawing, or sports. With parents who do everything for them, today's youth seem to prefer to live like teenagers even when they are in their 20s or 30s.
Does the face - down generation need a heads-up (警告) Well, probably not. The fact is that many of today's teenagers are better educated and more creative than past generations. They seem to be willing to become leaders. More young people than ever volunteer to help their communities. There are also brave young people such as Malala Yousafzai, the teenager who won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for pushing girls' rights to go to school.
So if you're one of the oh-ohs, there's some reason to be hopeful about the future. Things are looking up for the face-down generation. Chances are that you do great and laugh out loud.
( )24. Which of the following is an oh-oh
A. A girl who is good-looking. B. A girl who is smart.
C. A boy who was born in 1999. D. A boy who was born in 2004.
( )25. What do "helicopter parents" do for their children
A. They help them to face the challenges.
B. They do the homework instead of them.
C. They guide and plan everything for them.
D. They keep them away from after - school activities.
( )26. What does the passage tell us
A. Parents should put down their phones.
B. Young people should be better educated.
C. The community should care about teenagers.
D. The oh - ohs should be hopeful about the future.

If you know a teenager or gamer, you have probably heard about the latest video game: Fortnite. In the game, up to 100 players land into a small island with guns, and then kill or hide from other players in an attempt to be the lone survivor. The main goal is to kill other players. The popularity of these types of games raises clear questions about the effects of violent(暴利的) gaming. Do violent video games lead to real-life violence
The research on this question is mixed. Over the years, researchers have performed studies to find out whether violent video games lead to problems such as aggression(攻击性) and poor performance in school. Many studies have found that people who play violent video games are more likely to be involved in aggressive behaviour. In fact, there was enough research leading to this conclusion(结论). The American Psychological Association published a policy statement in 2015 concluding that playing violent video games led to more aggressive behaviour.
But many other researchers disagree. Many studies about violent crime and the use of violent video games find no evidence that increased sales of violent video games lead to obvious growth in violent crime. Researchers state that if violent video games directly led to violent behaviour, the data(数据) would show increases in violent crime on a large-scale as more people played violent games. In fact, there is some evidence that as more youth play video games, rates of youth violence have decreased.
A recent analysis finds that much of the research on violence and video games is affected by publication bias. Studies which draw the conclusions that video games lead to aggression and violence are more likely to be published. However, studies which find violent video games don’t have an effect on violence are seldom to be published. As a result, large reviews of the data conclude that violent video games lead to aggression without considering research to the contrary.
So what’s the take-home message here There is not enough evidence that violent video games lead to aggressive behaviour, That does not mean that every game is for every child. Certainly, many violent video games are scary and unfit for some kids. Understanding each child's needs and creating a plan that sets out rules for media use and monitors kids' activities on screens are proper solutions.

① Teens are gaining(增加) weight. Today most teenagers are at least one size larger than teens were 20 years ago. Even clothing sizes have changed. Did you know that a small size today used to be a medium size 20 years ago
②A recent research shows 97% of teens need more exercise. They always eat too much food and seldom exercise. It's easy for them to become fatter. It's bad news because too little exercise means you are missing a lot of good things in life. Exercise helps in two ways.
③ First, exercise helps your body. Physical activity can make your body strong. It can also keep you at a healthy weight. Doctors say that people who stay at a healthy weight have fewer health problems.
④ Second, exercise can help your mind. People who get plenty of physical activity might worry less and sleep better at night. You may even learn better at school. Students who are healthy can listen and understand better in class.
⑤ You can change your life and be more active at any point. It’s never too late. An article aclled "How to Limit Screen Time and Get Moving" gives these ideas:
Step away from the screen. Doctors call watching TV or playing video games screen time. You should have no more than two hours of screen time a day. You will enjoy life more if you live it instead of watching it!
Start slowly. An hour a day can seem like a long time. Start with 10 minutes of new activities every day. Add more as you get stronger. Think about walking. Take the stairs instead of the lift. You will feel healthier.
Make fitness fun. Find a sport you like. It doesn’t need to be the traditional sports of basketball, soccer, or baseball. Those are all great sports and if you like them, play them. However, you can also try hiking, skateboarding(滑板运动), or even rope jumping. If you enjoy the sport, you will do it.
Choose food carefully. Help your family shop for healthy food. Read the labels(标签). Look for healthy food. Eat lots of fruit and vegetables. Stop buying soft drinks and junk food. You will feel better if you eat right.
Exercise with others. Find a friend or family member to exercise or play with you. You will have more fun and it helps keep you responsible for going.

七、阅读表达(第53题1分,第54题2分,第55题3分,共6分)
Though times have changed, falling asleep in class is still a common occurrence(常事) among teenagers.
Why do students sometimes fall asleep in class An obvious reason is a lack of sleep. However, there are also causes for getting too little sleep.
Homework is a daily occurrence for most students, one that can take three to four hours per night.
A teenager who wants to be able to take part in any activity besides homework must stay up late to fit everything in. Club activities, sports, computer-game playing, and TV viewing, for example, all contribute to(是…的原因之一) teens having less time for both homework and sleep. Sometimes teens lack sleep because of after-school jobs that are taken on to earn extra money for college, family expenses, or simply for clothes.
Physical problems are another factor that can cause students to fall asleep in class. For example, insomnia(失眠症), which may keep a student up at night, causing exhaustion(疲惫不堪) during class hours, is a serious problem that may require medical attention. Medical evidence also supports the idea that each person has a body clock that helps to decide his or
her sleep pattern. Unluckily, these body clocks do not always work according to school timetables.
The effects of falling asleep in class can be quite serious. First of all, sleeping in class is not a good way to endear(使受喜爱) yourself to teachers. In addition, it is highly possible that other students may make jokes about those who sleep in class. However, the
most harmful effect of sleeping in class is missing out on important points. In the long run, sleepers may end up failing classes.
Since teens are probably not going to deal with the problem, falling asleep in class will probably remain an all-too-common(极其常见的) occurrence. It will continue until more teens find a way to balance their personal and social lives with school and work, while still finding enough time to sleep.
53. Which is the second effect of falling asleep in class
54. When can more teenagers solve the problem of a lack of sleep
55. Do you fall asleep in class Why or not
