Many years ago, when we first went to Canada, we were driving through Montana to Colorado with our two children. We thought we would find a motel(汽车旅馆)on the way and had not made a booking. As it was getting late, we started looking for a motel, only to find that all were booked.
Finally, around 9 p.m., we stopped at a gas station to fill up on gas. My husband asked for a phone book and told the woman at the counter that we were trying to find a motel. He tried for 15 minutes. When he was unsuccessful, the woman, Linda, said she and her family lived nearby and would be happy if we spent the night at her home.
My husband was stunned at her offer. She called her son to direct us, since she had to stay at the gas station till midnight.
When we reached their home, her husband greeted us. He took out two sleeping bags for the children. He invited us to have coffee and chat while we waited for his wife. When she came back, we asked if we could slip away in the morning so as not to disturb them. They said we were now guests and we would have to have breakfast with them.
We woke up to a table set for breakfast. They’d made a mountain of pancakes and bacon. We ate breakfast, and when we were leaving, my husband asked if he could offer some payment.

People love Shakespeare’s vocabulary and creativity. He used more than 15,000 words in this writing! But Bible’s Old Testament (旧约圣经) only contains 5,642 words, Shakespeare also invented many new terms and phrase.
If someone’s behavior suggested they were not honest and should not be trusted. Shakespeare called them suspicious. If someone was silly and perhaps looked like a fool, Shakespeare found their actions laughable. And for those who offered their opinions on something’s quality, Shakespeare called them critics (评论家). Today, for instance, food critics and film critics give their opinions on food and film.
The familiar phrase “break the ice” comes from Shakespeare’s play The Taming of the Shrew. The “ice is broken” when people in a group, who have never met before, begin to talk to each other by doing some activities. More common words were first used by Shakespeare including “road”, “gossip”, “lonely”, “bump” and “hurry”.

Have you ever run into a careless cell phone user on the street Perhaps they were busy talking, texting or checking updates on WeChat without looking at what was going on around them. As the number of this new “species” of human has kept rising, they have been given a new name — phubbers(低头族).
Recently, a cartoon created by students from China Central Academy of Fine Arts put this group of people under the spotlight. In the short film, phubbers with various social identities bury themselves in their phones. A doctor plays with his cell phone while letting his patient die, a pretty woman takes selfie(自拍照) in front of a car accident site, and a father loses his child without knowing about it while using his mobile phone. A chain of similar events eventually leads to the destruction of the world.
Although the ending sounds overstated, the damage phubbing can bring is real.
Your health is the first to bear the effect and result of it. “Constantly bending your head to check your cell phone could damage your neck,” Guangming Daily quoted doctors as saying. “the neck is like a rope that breaks after long-term stretching.” Also, staring at cell phones for long periods of time will damage your eyesight gradually, according to the report.
But that’s not all. Being a phubber could also damage your social skills and drive you away from your friends and family. At reunions with family or friends, many people tend to stick to their cell phones while others are chatting happily with each other and this creates a strange atmosphere, Qilu Evening News reported.
It can also cost you your life. There have been lots of reports on phubbers who fell to their death, suffered accidents, and were robbed of their cell phones in broad daylight.
12. For what purpose does the author give the example of a cartoon in Paragragh2
A. To inform people of the bad effects of phubbing.
B. To advertise the cartoon made by students.
C. To indicate the world will finally be destroyed by phubbers.
D. To warn doctors against using cell phones while treating patients.
13. Which of the following is NOT a risk a phubber may have
A. His social skills could be affected.
B. His neck and eyesight will be gradually harmed.
C. He will cause the destruction of the world.
D. He might get separated from his friends and family.
14. Which of the following may be the author’s attitude towards phubbing
A. Supportive. B. Negative.
C. Optimistic. D. Positive.
15. What may the passage talk about next
A. Advice on how to use a cell phone. B. People addicted to phubbing.
C. Results of phubbing. D. Measures to reduce the risks of phubbing.
A 13. C 14. B 15. D

根据文章第四段后一段“But that's not all. Being a phubber could also damage your social skills and drive you away from your friends and family. At reunions with family or friends, many people tend to stick to their cell phones while others are chatting happily with each other and this creates a strange atmosphere, Qilu Evening News reported.” 据《齐鲁晚报》报道,在与家人或朋友团聚的时候,当其他人愉快地聊天时,许多人都喜欢拿着手机,这就造成了一种奇怪的气氛;和第五段“Constantly bending your head to check your cell phone could damage your neck”不停地低头检查手机可能会损伤你的脖子;以及第六段“But that's not all. Being a phubber could also damage your social skills and drive you away from your friends and family”但这还不是全部,当一个低头族也可能会损害你的社交能力,把你从朋友和家人身边赶走。可知C项:He will cause the destruction of the world(他将毁灭世界)没有提到。
最后一段“It can also cost you your life. There have been lots of reports on phubbers who fell to their death, suffered accidents, and were robbed of their cell phones in broad daylight.”

You’d think the human race would have understood sleeping very well by now, but many of us are still sleeping poorly. Part of the problem is that we have wrong information and beliefs about this important health need. Let’s set the facts straight. ____16____
1. More sleep is better for you.
There could be such a thing as too much sleep. The amount of sleep we need varies by person and also changes as we age. Harvard researchers found that a lot of sleep (9 hours or more) is linked with poor sleep quality. ______17______ Aim for better sleep.
2. ____18____
Alcohol can help most people fall asleep. However, it also can cause you to wake up more during the night, decreasing your sleep quality. Consider drinking non-alcoholic drink before bed instead.
3. If you wake up in the middle of the night, lie in bed until you eventually fall back asleep.
___19___ We all hope to quickly fall back asleep. So we tend to stay in bed hoping it’ll happen at any minute now. If that doesn’t happen, though, within 15 minutes, most experts recommend getting out of bed to do something that occupies our bodies and brains without overstimulating us. Try not to check the clock either.
4. You can catch up on sleep on weekends.
When we lose sleep during the week, we accumulate a kind of sleep "debt". ____20____ Not so fast. This might actually make you sleepier the next week. Instead of waking up later on the weekends, you’d better go to sleep earlier or perhaps take a nap in the afternoon.
A Alcohol helps you sleep.
B. Here are some things you might have been told about sleeping but aren’t completely true.
C. Everyone should get 7—8 hours of sleep per night.
D. So don’t aim for more sleep — even on the weekends.
E. Waking up in the middle of the night is the pits (烦心事), but it happens to all of us.
F. You’ll have a better day and perhaps sleep better at night.
G. Can you pay that debt back by sleeping on Saturday or Sunday
B 17. D 18. A 19. E 20. G

故将that改为which。
learn to do sth学会作某事。
固定搭配all in all总的来说。
故将to改为for。
根据后面“…and become more independent.”
live a/an...life“过一个......的生活”为固定表达,normal为辅音音素开头,应用不定冠词a。故将an改为a。

Yours sincerely
Li Ping
Dear Frank,
Thank you for your letter. I'm more than happy to hear from you. You have asked for my advice on buying a mobile phone to help you with your study. To tell you the truth, I've thought a lot about the matter and it would seem to me that you'd better not.
In my opinion, having a mobile phone doesn't necessarily improve your study. For one reason,it's very easy for you to form some bad habits once you have it, such as playing computer games, seeing movies and so on, which will be a waste of time .For another reason, buying a mobile phone doesn't mean you can study well.If you want to make progress, you need to put your heart into your study and work hard. Whether you have a mobile phone or not is not the most important .In addition,it will take a lot of money to buy a mobile phone.
I hope you will think the matter over and I would be ready to discuss this matter with you further.
Yours sincerely.

C He will cause the destruction of the world.
D. He might get separated from his friends and family.
14. Which of the following may be the author’s attitude towards phubbing
A. Supportive. B. Negative.
C. Optimistic. D. Positive.
15. What may the passage talk about next
A. Advice on how to use a cell phone. B. People addicted to phubbing.
C. Results of phubbing. D. Measures to reduce the risks of phubbing.

1. More sleep is better for you.
There could be such a thing as too much sleep. The amount of sleep we need varies by person and also changes as we age. Harvard researchers found that a lot of sleep (9 hours or more) is linked with poor sleep quality. ______17______ Aim for better sleep.

A. Alcohol helps you sleep.
B. Here are some things you might have been told about sleeping but aren’t completely true.
