I am an active playgoer and play-reader, and perhaps my best reason for editing this book is a hope of sharing my enthusiasm for the theater with others. To do this I have searched through dozens of plays to find the ones that I think best show the power and purpose of the short play.
Each play has a theme or central idea which the playwright (剧作家) hopes to get across through dialogue and action. A few characters are used to create a single impression growing out of the theme. It is not my intention to point out the central theme of each of the plays in this collection, for that would, indeed, ruin the pleasure of reading, discussing, and thinking about the plays and the effectiveness of the playwright. However, a variety of types is represented here. These include comedy, satire, poignant drama, historical and regional drama. To show the versatility (多面性) of the short play, I have included a guidance play, a radio play and a television play.
Among the writers of the plays in this collection, Paul Green, Susan Glaspell, Maxwell Anderson, Thornton Wilder, William Saroyan, and Tennessee Williams have all received Pulitzer Prizes for their contributions to the theater. More information about the playwrights will be found at the end of this book.
To get the most out of reading these plays, try to picture the play on stage, with you, the reader, in the audience. The houselights dim (变暗) The curtains are about to open, and in a few minutes the action and dialogue will tell you the story.
1.What do we know about the author from the first paragraph
A.He has written dozens of plays. B.He has a deep love for the theater.
C.He is a professional stage actor. D.He likes reading short plays to others.
2.What does the author avoid doing in his work
A.Stating the plays, central ideas. B.Selecting works by famous playwrights.
C.Including various types of plays. D.Offering information on the playwrights.
3.What does the author suggest readers do while reading the plays
A.Control their feelings. B.Apply their acting skills.
C.Use their imagination. D.Keep their audience in mind.
4.What is this text
A.A short story. B.An introduction to a book.
C.A play review. D.An advertisement for a theater.

As Internet users become more dependent on the Internet to store information, are people remembering less If you know your computer will save information, why store it in your own personal memory, your brain Experts are wondering if the Internet is changing what we remember and how.
In a recent study, Professor Betsy Sparrow conducted some experiments. She and her research team wanted to know how the Internet is changing memory. In the first experiment, they gave people 40 unimportant facts to type into a computer. The first group of people understood that the computer would save the information. The second group understood that the computer would not save it. Later, the second group remembered the information better. People in the first group knew they could find the information again, so they did not try to remember it.
In another experiment, the researchers gave people facts to remember, and told them where to find the information on the computer. The information was in a specific computer folder(文件夹). Surprisingly, people later remembered the folder location(位置) better than the facts. When people use the Internet, they do not remember the information. Rather, they remember how to find it. This is called "transactive memory(交互记忆)".
According to Sparrow, we are not becoming people with poor memories as a result of the Internet. Instead, computer users are developing stronger transactive memories ; that is, people are learning how to organize huge quantities of information so that they are able to access it at a later date. This doesn't mean we are becoming either more or less intelligent, but there is no doubt that the way we use memory is changing.
1.The passage begins with two questions to _______.
A.introduce the main topic B.show the author's attitude
C.describe how to use the Internet D.explain how to store information
2.What can we learn about the first experiment
A.The Sparrow's team typed the information into a computer.
B.The two groups remembered the information equally well.
C.The first group did not try to remember the information.
D.The second group did not understand the information.
3.In transactive memory, people ______.
A.keep the information in mind B.change the quantity of information
C.organize information like a computer D.remember how to find the information
4.What is the effect of the Internet according to Sparrow's research
A.We are using memory differently. B.We are becoming more intelligent.
C.We have poorer memories than before. D.We need a better way to access information.
D
Group exercise is one of the most effective ways to improve physical fitness and sustain(保持)a healthy lifestyle. Group exercise is challenging, yet fun and empowering! Of course everyone knows that exercise is good for the body. However, studies have shown that when exercise is performed in groups, it's not only great for improving physical health but for psychological health. It's an opportunity to be social, release endorphins(内啡肽), and improve your strength. Additionally, group exercise creates a community feel and the shared common goal motivates participants to work hard. The instrumental support of taking on a fitness journey with others proves more effective than going to the gym alone.
Another beneficial aspect of group exercise is the informational support participants receive from the instructor. Many people fear the gym because they feel lost and don't want to embarrass themselves. If you feel you can relate, then group training is an even better option for you. It's a great opportunity to learn more about fitness through the clear instruction and supervision(监管)of a fitness instructor. If you're tired of wandering around the gym wasting time and becoming bored, you can attend an upbeat group fitness class that'll keep your workout on track. Don't let fitness frighten you!
If you're serious about wanting to live a healthy lifestyle, it's extremely important to surround yourself with people who'll provide you with the proper emotional support. I wouldn't scold anyone for deciding to party on weekends and in turn I wouldn't expect anyone to give offence to me for focusing on my health. Surround yourself with people who uplift, encourage and understand you! Make fitness even more fun by trying something new or any group fitness class, with a friend. Plan to go for a jog together. Then try a fun healthy restaurant or fresh juice bar! Fitness can be both fun and social!
Surrounding yourself with people who'll provide you with respect support can be very beneficial while working towards reaching health and fitness goals. First, decide to do it for yourself and work towards staying positive. Then make sure the people you surround yourself with are supportive. Don't let negativity ruin your motivation.
1. The first paragraph focused on _____.
A. the greatest challenge of group exercise
B. the most effective way to improve physical fitness
C. the contribution of group exercise to psychological health
D. the shared common goal in performing exercise in groups
2. The underlined word "upbeat" in the second paragraph probably means "_____".
A. cheerful
B. average
C. serious
D. temporary
3. When it comes to emotional support, the author thinks it necessary _____.
A. to sustain a colourful lifestyle
B. to party on weekends with positive people
C. to try a fun healthy restaurant regularly
D. to surround yourself with supportive people
4. What would be the best title for the passage
A. Seeking Support
B. Supporting Health
C. Improving Your Strength
D. Building Up Fitness

One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a kid from my class walking home from school. His name was Kyle. It looked like he was carrying all of his books. I thought to myself: Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday He must really be a nerd (书呆子).
As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him up so he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him. He looked up and I saw the terrible sadness in his eyes. So, I jogged to him and as he crawled around looking for his glasses, I saw a tear in his eye. As I handed him his glasses, he said, "Thanks!" There was a big smile on his face. It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude. We talked all the way home, and I carried his books. He turned out to be a pretty cool kid. The more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him.
Over next four years, Kyle and I became best friends. When we were seniors, he had the highest marks in the class and was chosen to give a speech at the graduation ceremony. I teased him all the time about being a nerd. He had to prepare a lot, and I was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and speak.
Graduation day, I saw Kyle. I said, "Hey, big guy, you'll be great!" He looked at me with one of those looks, the really grateful one, and said "Thanks" with a smile. As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began, Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years. Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach...but mostly your friends. I am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give him or her. I am going to tell you a story.

I just looked at my friend in disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

本题题干意为:这篇文章是什么(类型) 从文章第一段第一句...my best reason for editing this book is a hope of sharing my enthusiasm for the theater with others可知,这是作者在介绍自己编辑的一本戏剧集,故B选项(一本书的介绍)正确。

The human body is 60% water and we need to drink lots of water"和下文的"use water to make the plants grow" "we need water to produce this energy"可知,第一段讲述了人类直接用水,而第二段讲述了人类间接用水,故选A项。
That's around one in 10 people in the world. If we drink dirty water"可知,此处讲述世界上还有很多人缺少干净的饮用水,而这与E项中的"do not have clean water to drink"信息一致。
Also, in some countries children walk many kilometres every day to get water."和下文的 "Therefore, they don't have time to learn how to read or write and don't get an education." 要注意选项中的children和get water与上文的呼应,以及选项中的 school 与下文的 read or write 和 get an education 的呼应。
On this day every year, countries around the world hold events to educate people"可知,下文具体提到了每年这一天人们要做的事情,这是F项的进一步拓展,由此答案选F项。
⑤结合上文的"children between the ages of 10 and 15 walk 6 km with six litres of water"可知,这所学校的孩子要体验取水的艰辛,10—15岁的孩子要提着6升水走6千米, 这与选项G中的"walk a long distance carrying heavy bottles" 相符。
1-5 AABCA 6-10 BDACB 11-15 CADBC
根据“So I dreamed of being a leader.”
plan“计划”, calculate“计算”,judge“判断”。
concerned“担心的”, surprised“惊讶的”, confused“困惑的”。
gradually“渐渐地”, immediately“立即”, impatiently“不耐烦地”。
由上文的“in their favor”和“in my favor”可知,这里谈论的是优势,所以选strength,意为“长处”。 problem“问题”, worry“担心”, dream“梦想”。
accumulate“积累”,devote“献身”,develope“发展”。
along the way“一路走来;沿途”。
appointment“约会”, acceptance“认可”, election“选举”, reputation“名声”。
答案:①so ②to get ③of ④who ⑤recommended ⑥competition ⑦traditional ⑧hugely ⑨were invited ⑩listening
that... 故填so。
take...to do sth. 故填to get。
a pack of… 故填of。
故填who。
On the last day of our week-long stay"可知,句子的时态为一般过去时,且需用被动语态,又因主语为we, 故填 were invited。
Dear teachers and students,
Today is an exciting day. I'd like to express my feelings on studying abroad.
I think the rapid growth in numbers of undergraduates studying abroad is due to the numerous advantages of overseas study. The top reason is getting a chance to broaden your horizons while experiencing a high standard of education and first-rate facilities. Second, studying overseas might also provide you with a better chance of finding a preferable career. On the other hand, drawbacks such as high expenses and leaving their families affect some students when they make decisions.
Generally speaking, I think for undergraduates, studying abroad is a precious opportunity. If you have self-control, go ahead and try. Overall, I suggest everyone look at this question rationally with reasonable consideration.
Thank you all.
第二节
答案:One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
I just looked at my friend in disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met. Kyle had planned to kill himself over the weekend. He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home. Meanwhile, I found he looked hard at me and gave me a little smile. "Thankfully, I was saved. My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable." I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all about his weakest moment. When his eyes caught mine, I was able to see tears shimmering in his smiling eyes.
Paragraph 2:
I smiled back in tears. Not until that moment did I realize what a big difference one small gesture had made to him. I even saw his mom and dad looking at me and smiling with that same grateful smile. It dawned on me that never should we underestimate the power of our actions. With one small gesture we can change a person s life. For better or for worse.
