Why do people listen to music The answer may seem simple: Music is pleasant to make and to hear. But music touches our lives in many other ways, too.
Music changes our moods
My brother doesn't choose music based on what he wants to hear. Instead, he decides what he wants to feel and picks music with that mood in mind. Upbeat, bright-sounding music generally makes people feel happy. But some people enjoy listening to sad music, too. It can be like talking with a friend who understands your suffering. But for some people, sad music can make them feel even sadder.
Music helps us get things done
Do you ever listen to music while you work I do, and I find that it sometimes helps me concentrate. According to one expert, music can help you pay attention to boring or repeated tasks. But when you are doing tasks that require more thought, music can disturb you, making them harder.
My mom, a preschool teacher, uses music to manage her class. When she wants to call a child, instead of yelling the child's name, she sings it. This creates a more positive environment, while still getting the child's attention.
Music brings people together
Music can also bring people closer to each other. This is especially true of music played live. Live music often features a group of people playing different instruments, which makes it a shared experience. Listeners can share in the emotions the song expresses. They also create memories together.
And speaking of memories, lots of people connect music with specific places, people or events. Whenever they hear a certain song, they are transported back to some points in the past. Thus music can connect people not only to present people but also to people from their past.
Music is far more than just entertainment; it is a powerful force that affects us in many ways.

To win an Oscar is an achievement at any age. To do so at 22, like Jennifer Lawrence, is just amazing. The American star won Best Actress at the 85th Academy Awards for her role in the film Silver Linings Playbook. According to Time magazine's Richard Corliss, Lawrence is a rare young actress who lends mature intelligence to any role.
Though Lawrence has found great success through her big screen work, she wasn't sure what she really liked doing before the age of 14. She thought she'd go to college and maybe find a career as a doctor or a travel agent.
Lawrence's two brothers were star athletes and one of them was a straight-A student. Unlike them, she suffered through school, never finding where she belonged. However, during a trip to New York, Lawrence suddenly realized that she wanted to be an actress. When she was enjoying the beautiful city, a model seeker asked if he could take her picture, and the next day he called her in for an audition(试镜).
"I read the script and it was the first time I had that feeling like I understand this," Lawrence said. "Within 20 minutes in the cab ride from the hotel, I decided I didn't want to be a model. In fact, I wanted to be an actress." Having appreciated this young lady's performance, the agency was so impressed with her reading that they signed her on the spot. But she insisted on finishing high school so she could pay her full attention to her acting career.
Lawrence burst onto the Hollywood scene last year with The Hunger Games, which established her as the highest-grossing (票房最高的) female action hero of all time. Rolling Stone called her "the most talented young actress in America".

" Roesler added, "What was considered rebellious in the 1950s is absolutely different from what is rebellious today, and we feel confident that he would support this modern-day act of rebellion."
Anton Ernst, the film's director, said, "I respect Dean's life and history. The movie is one of hope and love. There are still a lot of James Dean's fans worldwide and there would always be critics. In early twentieth-century France, a new form of entertainment was becoming a hit—motion pictures. People crowded into theatres for short, silent, black-and-white films that showed everyday happenings, such as a train pulling into a station. These pictures were dimly projected (投射) onto white sheets. Usually, there was no sound. Sometimes, men at pianos played music to match the scenes.
Moving images in theatres are no longer new, but back at the beginning of the art form, surprises lurked(潜伏) around every corner. During the first showings of silent movies, some people in the audience screamed in fear, reacting to what they saw as if it were happening in real life. Moviegoers(常看电影的人) were known to leap out of their seats during a movie. At that time, few people understood what motion pictures which were put on in the cinema were, so audience members could easily be fooled.
Today, people crowd into theatres for the latest appealing 3D movies. Even older movies, such as the popular Star Wars series, are being re-released in 3D. Moviemakers are excited about the ability to involve the audience more directly in the story or film. In addition, theatres spend tens of thousands of dollars on high-quality audio systems so that everything from the safest whispers to the largest explosions sounds clear and realistic.
What will movies be like 100 years from now Will audiences be able to smell scents in the films, taste the food that characters are eating, or even become part of the stories themselves Only time will tell.
1.What does the underlined word "hit" in Paragraph 1 probably mean
A.A heavy blow. B.A crowded place.

A.To re-release more old movies. B.To develop movie technologies.
C.To improve movies' sound quality. D.To get audiences involved in the story.
4.What's the author's purpose in writing the text
A.To explain how realistic movies are today.
B.To tell something about future movie plans.
C.To compare movie theatres over the last century.
D.To introduce the development of movie technology.

At the sound of his mom coughing, Jeremy knocked on her bedroom door and asked with great concern, “Mom, are you ok ” “Honey,” Mom said weakly. “I have a terrible cold. You can have cereal (燕麦) for breakfast and watch cartoons. I’m going to stay in bed.”
Jeremy poured some cereal into a bowl and ate the pieces dry. Mom must feel very bad if she was staying in bed all day. How could Jeremy help First, he wiped up the crumbs of cereal he left on the kitchen counter. He also put away the cereal box neatly, so the kitchen looked just as it did when he woke up. But what else could he do Jeremy thought. Saturday was the day when mom did laundry.
Jeremy loved to watch the clothes spinning in the machine. That should be fun! He ran to his room to get the laundry basket, inside which there was his mother’s favorite white dress, among other clothes and a pair of red socks. Jeremy opened the door to the washer and put the clothing inside. He had watched Mom do laundry lots of times, so he knew where to find the washing powder and how to pour it into the machine. Finally, he closed the door and pressed the big button that said “START.”
Jeremy looked through the round glass window. Water was pouring in, and the machine was starting to spin, making his clothing tumble around. That was easy! Jeremy watched cartoons until he heard the washing machine beep. That meant the washing was done. Jeremy opened the door to take out the damp clothes. He took out a few at a time and moved them into the dryer. Everything seemed clean, and Jeremy felt proud. Then he pulled out a pink dress.

第二节
答案:
But he remembered there was no pink dress in the laundry basket. “Where did it come from ” Jeremy wondered, reaching into the washer to take out more clothes. Then much to his astonishment, he pulled out two T-shirts, both in light pink. Realizing there was something wrong, Jeremy stood frozen, his heart sinking. While racking his brain for reasons, he caught sight of the red socks, and it suddenly occurred to him that they must be to blame for the accident. With no means of handling the situation, Jeremy was in such a panic that he even thought of hiding the dress from his mom. “That isn’t a positive approach to the problem,” he reminded himself. Finally, he decided to dry and fold the laundry before telling his mom everything.
Holding the neatly folded pink dress, Jeremy nervously knocked at his mom’s bedroom door again. After what seemed like ages, he came to the bedside, his head drooping. Sensing his son’s unease, his mother inquired with concern what was wrong. “Sorry mom, I shouldn’t have ruined your favorite dress.” Jeremy apologized. Stuttering out the mistake he had made, he was ready to get a good scolding for his wrongdoing. Realizing what’s going on, mom smiled understandingly at Jeremy, “Never mind, dear. I know you meant to help.” Then mom held the dress up before her and said in an approving tone, “You know what I think it looks nice.” At this Jeremy beamed with relief, making a silent vow to be more careful in helping his mom out next time.
