As the years go by, the Italian community has found its place in Australia. One of the main reasons is the birth of a second generation(代). The children of migrants have grown up as Australians.
Lucy's family is an example.
Lucy's parents came from Italy in the 1950s. Lucy was born in Sydney soon after her parents arrived in Australia. Lucy's parents were both workers. They spoke Italian at home. When Lucy went to school, she had to learn English. Her mum and dad could speak just a little English. At home it was always Italian. When she got a bit older, her mum and dad would ask her to help them out when they didn't understand something in English.
When she was growing up, her parents didn't allow her to do as much as her Australian friends. Her friends didn't understand why she couldn't go out and do things with them, or why she always did what her parents wanted! Lucy's parents spent a lot of time with other Italians, mainly because it was much easier for them to communicate in Italian. Because of this, she spent more time with kids from Italian background.
Things have changed since Lucy had children of her own. Lucy is not as strict as her parents were, so her own kids have more freedom. They can move between the different cultures and feel easier in both cultures. They haven't had so many problems about their identities(身份). They see themselves as Australians with an Italian background and they're proud of their traditions.

( )29. Why did Lucy's parents didn't allow her to do as much as her Australian friends when she was growing up
A. Because she couldn't speak English well enough to make herself understood.
B. Because they wanted her to follow their own tradition more.
C. Because they didn't think her smart enough to deal with the outside world.
D.Because they themselves found it much easier to communicate with people from Italian background.

Australia is the world's smallest continent and the sixth largest country. But only about 24 million people live there. The first people there were the Aborigines. In the late 18th century the British arrived. Today the British influence on Australia is still very strong. For example, the national language is English and drivers drive on the left side of the road.
Australia was far away from the other continents a long time ago, so a lot of animals, like the koala and the kangaroo aren't found anywhere else in the world. Australia also has some of the most dangerous animals in the world, such as poisonous snakes and spiders.
The largest city in Australia is Sydney with its famous Opera House and Harbour Bridge. The 2000 Summer Olympics were held in Sydney. But Sydney isn't the capital of Australia. The capital is Canberra.
Australia is a huge country, but most Australians live in the southeast corner between Sydney and Melbourne. This is because most of the land is very dry. Australians call this dry area the outback (内陆地区). There are some huge farms with millions of sheep. The children who live on these farms can't go to school, because the nearest town is too far away. They study at home with the School of the Air. They used to talk to their teachers by the radio and now on the Internet.

B Last week I surfed on the Internet and got some information about Australia. It is a big country with a small population and many famous sights. It was cut off from the other continents long before, so many animals are living in it, such as kangaroos, can't be seen anywhere else. There are also many interesting things to do there, like surfing. If you want to visit there and have a good time, I have two suggestions. First, make a careful plan for the trip. Second, look after yourselves while travelling there.
