A
We all know that theme parks are places to have fun and amuse ourselves, but among so many exciting rides there are also some dangers.Make sure you know what the safety standards are for all the attractions at the park.If you do that, you will be safe and have fun.
Drink water.Believe it or not, dehydration—when your body doesn’t have enough water—is the commonest cause of injuries at theme parks.Drinking water while you are at the park is not enough. You must make sure that you drink enough water before you visit it.
Use your “common sense”.There are lots of people around,so make sure you know where your friends or family are. Also, if you are walking and want to stop, make sure nobody is walking behind you.First step aside, then look behind and if you aren’t in anybody’s way, then stop.It might sound upset, but crashes between people can cause accidents.
Follow the instructions. The majority of theme parks have instructions for each ride. Some rides only allow people of a certain height. So make sure you are not too tall or too short before boarding any ride. Also, people with certain diseases or conditions are advised not to go on some rides.Do remember: If you are told not to go on a ride, then DON’T.
Do not ride with a bad stomach or if you’ve just eaten.Rides can make you ill because of their violent changes of direction and your lunch may end up on someone else’s head; surely not a very pleasant experience.
Have fun, relax and be a little brave! Some rides might look scary but theme parks are very safe places.
21.What does the underlined word “dehydration” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.Drinking too much water.
B.Losing too much water from one’s body.
C.Losing too much food from one’s body.
D.Having too much food.
22.What is the leading reason for injuries at theme parks?
A.Snow. B.Dehydration. C.Fire. D.Crashes.
23.According to the author __ __.
A.it costs nothing to go to theme parks
B.people can have lots of fun in theme parks
C.men are more interested in theme parks than women
D.shy people should not go to theme parks
B
In high school I was very shy, content to hang around with my small group of friends and concentrate on my courses.I was quickly regarded as a “brain”.I did so well that by the end of the senior year I had perfect grades and enough credits to give up an entire quarter of coursework.
But in early June of the senior year, the principal called me into his office. He asked me to give a speech at graduation.I gaped (目瞪口呆地凝视) at him, my heart thumping. This was the reward for my hard work I mumbled something and fled the office, blaming myself for staying away from physics, a subject sure to have ruined my perfect record.
I finally agreed to a compromise.I would share the honor with five other students. And my friend Judy would then give her own, full-length speech.
Graduation day soon arrived.I’d been practicing my speech for days, and I had it memorized. The first half hour of the ceremony passed in a blur, and then my moment came.My name was announced.I managed to reach the podium (讲台) without falling down.I faced my classmates. My voice trembled a little, but mostly it was clear and strong. But within seconds, I was done and headed back to my seat.I accomplished something I’d never dreamed of—I spoke in front of hundreds of people.
Although I didn’t realize it at the time, the successful completion of that speech gave me the confidence to participate in class at college, to give verbal reports, and to eventually break free from my shyness.I never would have chosen to give a speech at graduation ever. But I’m glad I did.I no longer hesitate when I’m faced with the prospect of doing something I dread.I know it may very well turn out to be one of my shining moments.
24.Why was the writer called a “brain”?
A.She was a bookworm all the time.
B.She was the head of her small group.
C.She did a good job in her studies.
D.She did more coursework for good grades.
25.What can we infer from the second paragraph?
A.She ruined her health because of studying hard.
B.She got the reward beyond expectation.
C.She was grateful for giving a speech.
D.She wasn’t good at physics at school.
26.How did the author feel at the beginning of the graduation speech?
A.Scared. B.Moved. C.Excited. D.Embarrassed.
27.What did the speech bring to the author at last
A.She had nothing to fear in life. B.She got rid of her sense of shyness.
C.She won enough college credits. D.She desired to become a speaker.

There was a lot of news related to artificial intelligence, or AI, and machine learning.Among the stories were two dealing with direct competitions between humans and machines.
In one competition, machines that used AI performed better than human beings in a high-level reading test. Two natural language processing tools beat human in the experiment. One of the tools was built by the American technology company Microsoft. The other was created by Chinese online seller Alibaba Group.
In another competition, a computer took on humans in live, public debates. The event demonstrated how AI-powered computers are increasingly being developed to think and sound like humans. The organizer of the debates,US technology company IBM, announced split results. It said a majority of those watching said they felt the machine had done more to improve their knowledge of the subject. But, the human got more praise for communicating their ideas.
This year, we also explored the many ways AI and machine learning are now being used. For example, some US judges use machine learning systems to help them decide when, and for how long, criminals should be jailed. The system uses computers to examine data from thousands of court cases.
One fast-growing area of AI is facial recognition, which is increasingly being used for security purposes.Recently, Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson airport became the first in the US to permit passengers to use facial recognition technology to get on flights.A Chinese company showed an AI system developed to recognize individuals by body shape and walking movements. The system is already being used by Chinese police in Beijing and Shanghai.
In addition, machine learning was used during 2018 to predict results of the World Cup soccer competition. The technology also created artwork sold for a large amount of money. And it is being used to help farmers save time and money, while reducing environment-harming chemicals.Other technology systems are being used to follow farm animals and wildlife to collect information on their activities.
28.Why were the two competitions mentioned in the passage?
A.To show how much better AI and machine learning are than humans.
B.To prove AI and machine learning got more praise for communication.
C.To show how powerful AI and machine learning are.
D.To prove AI and machine learning have been used in the work of US judges.
29.What are facial and body recognition systems used for in the passage?
A.Knowledge learning. B.Safety control.
C.Office automation. D.Tracking surveys.
30.What can we infer from this passage?
A.AI has been widely used in every person’s daily life.
B.Humans can be replaced by AI in future completely.
C.More attention is being paid to AI in every part of the world.
D.More advanced AI is helping people in more and more areas.
31.Where is the passage probably from?
A.A technology report. B.A natural science magazine.
C.A science fiction. D.A government document.

Much meaning can be conveyed clearly with our eyes, so it is often said that eyes can speak.
Do you have such kind of experience 32. ,but not too long. And if he senses that he is being stared at, he may feel uncomfortable.
33. .If you are looked at for more than necessary, you will look at yourself up and down to see if there is anything wrong with you. If nothing goes wrong, you will feel angry toward others’ stare at you that way. Eyes do speak, right
34. .But things are different when it comes to staring at the opposite sex. If a man glances at a woman for more than 10 seconds, his intention is obvious, that is, he wishes to attract her attention to make her understand that he admires her. In fact, continuous eye contact occurs between lovers only, who will enjoy looking at each other tenderly for a long time to show affection that words cannot express.
However, the normal eye contact between two people engaged in conversation is that the speaker will only look at the listener from time to time, in order to make sure that the listener is attentive. 35. ,as if he tries to control you, you will feel uncomfortable. A poor liar usually exposes himself by looking too long at the victim, since he believes in the false idea that to look him or her straight in the eye is a sign of honest communication. 36. .
Evidently, eye contact should be done according to the relationship between two people and the specific situation.
A.Quite the contrary
B.The same is happening in daily life
C.In a bus you may look at a stranger
D.Looking too long at someone may seem to be rude

She stood beside a stand for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she sighed and had to leave.
The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, "Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles " “Oh、 yes...but I don't have money on me," she replied. "That's nothing. I'll treat you today," said the man. "Come in."
The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was So attractive. As she was eating, Jenny cried silently. "What is it "" asked the man kindly.
"Nothing, actually I was just touched by your kindness!" said Jenny.“Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is So merciless compared to a stranger!" Hearing the words, the seller smiled,“Girl, do you really think so I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot.
