Criteria
1. The main outcome: The students will learn to talk about frequency of doing different things and plan a healthy summer vacation.
2. Language focus
l Get familiar with the following words and phrases:
Junk food, milk, coffee, chip, cola, chocolate, drink, health, how many
l Sentence pattern: … is (not) good for my health. How often do you …
3. Learning strategies
l The students will be able to actively use the language and skills learned;
l The students will be able to collaborate in the pair-work.
4. Affection
l The students will be aware of what is good for their health.
l The students will learn to refine their lifestyle during summer vacation.
Difficulties: Talk about the frequency of doing different things in one paragraph.
Teaching aids: blackboard, chalk, computer, overhead projector
Students setting: students sit in pairs.
Teaching steps:
1. Warming-up: a little poem about a healthy summer
Summer vacation is coming;
It’s time for relaxing.
Chips and French fries,
I’ll eat as many as I like.
Watch TV till late night;
Have some coffee to wake me up.
But you know what
It’s unhealthy for a kid.
Want to be strong instead
Milk every day will help.
A little cola and a little chocolate;
Not too much, not too sweet.
Vegetables and fruit;
They are both healthy food.
Come on, everybody;
Let’s have a healthy summer!
2. Lead-in and Revision
1) As we know, summer vacation is coming. What do you usually do during summer vacation
(Students’ answers can be: do exercise, do homework, watch TV, surf the Internet, read books, eat great food … and so on.)
2) How often do you … (according to their answers)
Do you … every day (If no, then how often do you … ) (once a week, twice a month …)

3. Presentation
1) Do you eat anything or drink anything when you are watching TV
What do you like to eat or drink when you’re watching TV à I like to eat … and I like to drink … (elicit the words: cola and chips)
Are they good for our health No, they are high in sugar and fat. They are junk food.
What else is junk food (hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries, KFC, McDonald’s…)
2) Then what food or drink is good for our health
Milk/ fruit/ vegetables is/are good for our health.
Besides food, what else is good for health Exercise is good for health. Enough sleep is good for health.
3) How many hours of sleep is enough for you
How many hours do you sleep every day during summer vacation
How many hoursdo you surf the Internet every day during summer vacation Is it healthy
How many hours do you work every day during summer vacation
4) Some people work for a long time and sleep for a short. They need to drink coffee every day.
Is coffee good for health
In fact, for adults, a cup of coffee a day is good for health. But too much coffee is of course not good for health.
4. Listening
