In the past, when students graduated from college and got jobs, only some of them went on with their study. But today, lifelong learning is becoming more and more common.
Lucy, who is forty, teaches physics at a college in Boston. “Next term, I’ll teach some of my classes by using the Internet. This is the way of teaching that I’ve never used before, “These days, I am taking a class to learn how to teach in this way. If not, I will lose my job.” At the same time, Lucy’s seventy-year-old parents, who live in New York, are taking an art history class online. “We love this subject,” says her father, “and we learn it to enjoy ourselves. You see we can study with people all over the world. What fun it is to learn like this!”

Once there lived a man named Mark who had lots of bad habits. People around him didn’t like him. One day he asked God, “I have many bad habits. Which one should I give up first ” God said, “Give up telling lies first and always tell the truth.” The man promised to do so.
At night the man would go out to take something that isn’t his, but he thought of his promise. “If tomorrow God asks me, could I say that I went out to do this No. If I tell the truth, everyone will dislike me.” So the man didn’t take anything that night. The next day, he wanted to drink, but when he was about to do so, he thought of his promise again. In the end, he decided not to drink.
Finally, he gave up all his bad habits and became very popular with everyone, too.

The Dead Sea
At 430 meters below sea level, the Dead Sea is Earth's lowest point on land. It is popular for its wonderful buoyancy(浮力). The high salt content-more than 34 percent - makes
swimming more like floating.
Now the Dead Sea is actually dying. People are using water from the Jordan
River, which takes water away from the Dead Sea. Since 1930, its surf area has reduced by almost 40 percent.
Venice, Italy
With waterways instead of streets. This "Floating City" has attracted visitors for centuries. But no visit to Venice is complete without a ride on one of its famous gondolas, human powered water taxis. Water creates Venice. But water will also kill the city.
Built on soft earth, Venice has slowly been sinking (下沉) for centuries. Now, with rising sea levels caused by human activities, it's sinking faster. According to US-based magazine Architectural Digest, the city may disappear in the next 100 years. Better book your gondola soon!
Great Barrier Reef, Australia
Covering more than 2,300 kilometers of Australia's northeast coast, Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest reef ecosystem, and an ideal place for scuba divers (水肺潜水者).Thousands of colorful coral (珊瑚) and fish make homes in the blue sea water. It's like a big underwater party!
Sadly, the party might be over soon. The reef is dying. Human activities are changing the weather. Warming ocean, water kills the coral, and this causes problems up the food chain. The New York Times reported that large parts are already dead, and the reef system might be gone by 2030.

March 2 is Old Stuff Day(旧物日).It is all about old stuff. Things you used have been forgotten for ages in your home. You must have some old stuff around. And today is all about enjoying it. Because what's better than finding something really great from days gone by
It's so easy to forget things you have. If we don't use them every day, some things can be put away and stay there. And that's not just the things in your home— technology grows so quickly, new toys come out all the time, new books keep coming out. In the age of new information, we can have so many things easily. Today is all about remembering the things we sometimes leave behind.
We've learned to value what age can bring to things. Wines, for example, are more valuable and tastier as they grow older. It's certain that old things still have their uses, value or charm. People today will pay a pretty penny for stamps, toys, video games, board games, books, coins, and clothes of yesterday.
You can really get into the charm of old things by visiting a junk shop (旧货店). Another person's old stuff could be your new stuff! Or maybe now is a good day to clean up Old stuff could become a great gift for someone else, or you could always send your old things to a charity shop. If you're free, you could turn your old clothes into new ones with just a little change.
Today could be a good day to visit your older families. You could ask your grandparents to tell you stories about family history, their childhood and their youth. Learn about what was going on in the world when they were growing up.
Most of all, remember that today's new stuff will one day be old stuff.

Then Alice saw a small glass table. There was a little golden key on it. She picked it即and put it in all the locks on the doors but it didn't open any of them. She moved a curtain on one of the walls and discovered another door, a very small one. She put the key in the lock. It was exactly the right size! She opened the door and looked through it. At the end of a low passage she saw a beautiful garden. It was full of brightly coloured flowers and fountains.
"Oh, how beautiful! "she said. " I'd love to go there but I'm too big to get through the door. "
She walked back to the table. There was a bottle on it now.
" I'm sure that bottle wasn't there before, " she said, a little confused.
She put down the key and picked up the bottle. She read the words "DRINK ME" on it. Alice
wasn't a stupid girl. She didn't drink it immediately. First she looked at the bottle carefully. There
wasn't a label on it that said "POISON".
So she put the bottle to her lips and drank.
"Mmm, ifs nice, " she said. It tasted like cherry tart, pineapple, roast turkey and toast-all the things that she liked to eat-so she drank some more. And some more. Soon the bottle was empty.
"What a curious feeling," she said. "I'm getting smaller and smaller.'" It was true! She was now as small as her cat Dinah.
"Good! I can go through the door into the garden," she said. But, poor Alice! When she got to the door, she didn't have the key! It was on the table. She couldn't reach it because she was too small now. She sat down and cried.
After a while she said, "Alice! Stop crying! Crying doesn't help! Dry your tears immediately!"
When she looked at the table again, she saw a small glass box under it. She picked it up and opened it. There was a small cake inside. It had the words "EAT ME" on it. She put a small piece of it in her mouth.
"If I grow bigger I can reach the key, "she thought. " And if I grow smaller I can go under the door."
But nothing happened so she finished it.

You might have seen beautiful rainbows in the sky before. They form when sunlight falls on water drops in the air. But in fact, moonlight can also create rainbows in the same way. They are called "moonbows”. They are similar to rainbows, but they are created by moonlight instead of direct sunlight.
Moonbows are rarer than rainbows. Different weather and astronomical (天文学的)conditions have to be just right for moonbows to be created.
The moon has to be very low in the sky — only 42 degrees from the horizon (地平线). The moon period has to be a full moon or nearly full. The sky must be very dark for a moonbow to be watched clearly — any bright light can obscure it. Water drops must appear in the air in the opposite direction of the moon.
Moonbows appear on the opposite side of the moon and usually look white to the human eye. This is because their colors are not bright enough to be noticed by the human eye. It is possible, however, to view the colors in a moonbow using long exposure (长时间曝光)photography.
Moonbows more often appear in some locations around the world. Most of these locations usually have waterfalls, which create thin fog in the air. Some of these locations are the Yosemite National Park in California and Cumberland Falls State Resort Park in Kentucky, US; Victoria Falls on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe; and Waimea in Hawaii, US.
Moonbows do really happen. So at a certain time and a certain place, when a moonbow happens to appear, you can't miss it if you' re right there.
62. According to the first two paragraphs, moonbows are _________________.
A. created by sunlight B. much easier to find
C. seen during the day D. more difficult to form
63. Which of the following can be the conditions for a moonbow to form
A. A half moon hangs high in the bright sky.
B. A full moon is 50 degrees from the horizon.
C. A nearly full moon hangs low in the dark sky.
D. Water drops are in the opposite direction of the sun.
64. What does the underlined word "obscure "in paragraph 3 probably mean
A. cover B. drop C. connect D. produce
65. What is paragraph 5 mainly about
A. Conditions of moonbows. B. Background of moonbows.
C. Locations of moonbows. D. Development of moonbows.

八、阅读与回答问题(本题共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
Do you put up your hand when you want to speak in class If so, you have followed a rule. Rules can be as simple as putting up your hand. They can also be as complicated(复杂的) as knowing when you are “out” in a game.
Rules can be made by anyone. Parents make rules to help children grow up healthily. Rules at home might include washing dishes or cleaning rooms.
Teachers make rules to help students learn and stay safe. Putting up your hand before asking a question helps the class pay attention to the lesson. Students make rules in games to make sure that they can play without fighting. Rules can be changed often. If you change your minds, you can change the rules.
Laws are rules too, but they are made differently. Laws are made by elected representatives(被选出的代表). Voters(选民) allow their representatives to make laws that can protect people's rights, safety and make sure everyone can be treated fairly. Laws cannot be changed often, so representatives consider laws carefully before making new ones.
The biggest difference between rules and laws is the punishment(处罚) for breaking them. If you break a rule, your punishment might be small, like losing a turn in a game. However, if a person breaks an important law, the punishment might be a fine(罚款) or time in prison.
Rules and laws keep everyone safe. People can work and live together in peace by following rules and laws.
