It is quite painful for children to lose their baby teeth. It gets more annoying as the new teeth start to grow. The children often put their tongues in the place where the new teeth are growing in order to stop the pain. This can cause the new teeth to look strange. However, you can completely avoid the problem by acting smartly. Kids love listening to stories, which can help them forget their pain.
The most common tale that parents tell their children is The Tooth Fairy(牙仙子). Well, the story of the tooth fairy started in ancient times in Europe. When a child lost this or her first set of teeth, he or she would bury them in the ground. According to one story, the new teeth will start to grow only when the old ones have been buried in the ground.
Another story explains this action can stop the child from an unlucky curse(诅咒). According to the story, if a witch(女巫) got a child’s teeth, she could place a curse on the child. The kids were told that by burying the missing teeth, they could avoid this situation. Kids used to believe it and did so. Later, there were changes in lifestyles and people started living in cities and towns. In cities, there was not much land that could be used. So kids started placing their missing teeth under the pillow. They used to believe that a tooth fairy would exchange a tooth for a reward during their sleep. To make the kids believe their story, parents used to replace(替换) the tooth with a coin in the middle of the night.
( )1. How can we smartly make kids less painful according to Paragraph 1
A. Through telling them stories. B. Through using their tongues.
C. Through asking a doctor for help. D. Through playing games with them.
( )2. What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 2 refer to
A. The teeth. B. The stories. C. The problems. D. The tooth fairies.
( )3. Why did children bury the missing teeth in the ground in Paragraph 3? D
A. To place a curse on the witch.
B. To bring good luck to their parents.
C. To reduce their pain of losing a tooth.
D. To stop bad things happening to them.
( )4. How did kids in cities deal with their missing teeth
A. Kept them as rewards. B. Sold them for some money.
C. Exchanged them with others. D. Put them under the pillow.
( )5. Why did parents replace the tooth with a coin at night?
A. To keep the witch away. B. To reward their children.
C. To make their story believable. D. To play a joke on their children.
