Despite the lack of new releases due to the outbreak of COVID-19, there was no shortage of good films in 2020. We've rounded out the top 4 films. Check them out!
Soul
In the first Pixar cartoon to have an African-American lead character. Jamie Foxx provides the voice of a music teacher who dreams of making it as a jazz pianist. But just after a successful interview, he falls down a manhole and finds himself in a soul world where human spirits are assigned their personalities. And things get even stranger from there.
Nomadland
When Fern loses her husband and can't afford to live in a house, she packs her few belongings into a camper and drives off into the Nevada desert. She encounters a large community of senior citizens who have also been forced to live on the road, supporting themselves with short-term- jobs along the way. What makes Nomadland unique is that while Fern is played by an Oscar-winning actress, nearly all she meets are real people who relate their own experiences. Written and directed by Chloe Zhao, the film is a combination of documentary and fiction.
The Croods: A New Age
The prehistoric family from 2013's hugely enjoyable cartoon, The Croods, directed by Joel Crawford, makes a welcome return, so we can expect more crazy adventures and unusual animals. In the much-delayed- sequel, they meet another family, the Bettermans, whose advanced lifestyle and technology make the Croods look even more primitive than they did already. There's conflict but they learn to appreciate each other's differences.
Wolfwalkers
The year's finest cartoon film comes from Cartoon Saloon, an Irish studio specialising in stylised hand-drawn 2D art. Its latest production is set in the mid-17th Century, when English soldiers are trying to occupy the wild woods. One hunter's daughter meets with a girl wolfwalker and they make joint efforts to rescue the forest. Rocky was a 65-pound dog. Rita was his eleven-year old owner. When Rocky was given to her, Rita immediately liked him. Whenever she was not in school, the two were always together and within touching distance. The family would lovingly call the pair “R and R".
But Rocky had one shortcoming. He feared water very much because of a terrible experience. When he was at the age of seven weeks long before he met Rita,he was nearly drowned by a naughty boy who had been blamed by his father.
One late afternoon, Rita's mother took R and R to a shopping area near a lake. Rita was running along the wooden bridge over the water, enjoying the beautiful scenery around. Suddenly a boy on a bicycle hit Rita. She let out a cry of pain and fell into the lake.
Rita's mother was at the entrance of a store not far away. She rushed to the lake shouting for help. Rocky seemed to forget his fear and jumped into the water to save his owner. Rocky immediately swam to Rita and held her by the shoulder's clothes with his mouth. Rita's face was quickly out of the water and she could cough.Luckily, the water was calm, they were not far from the bank, and Rocky finally reached a depth where his feet were on solid ground. He pulled Rita hard until her head was completely out of the water, and then he stood beside her, licking(舔) her face.

Blue Planet II’s latest episode focuses on how plastic is having a disastrous effect on the ocean and slowly poisoning our sea creatures. Researchers recently also found that sea creatures living in the deepest place on Earth, the Mariana Trench, have plastic in their stomachs. Indeed, the oceans are drowning in plastic.
Though it seems now that the world couldn’t possibly fun_ction without plastics, consumer plastics are a remarkably recent invention. The first plastic bags were introduced in the 1950s; the same decade that plastic packaging began gaining in popularity in the United States. This growth has happened so fast that science is still catching up with the change. Plastics pollution research, for instance, is still a very early science.
We put all these plastics into the environment and we still don’t really know what the outcomes are going to be. What we do know, though, is disturbing. Ocean plastic is estimated to kill millions of marine animals every year. Nearly 700 species, including endangered ones, are known to have been affected by it. One in three leatherback turtles, which often mistake plastic bags for jellyfish, have been found with plastic in their bellies. Ninety percent of seabirds are now eating plastics on a regular basis. By 2050, that figure is expected to rise to 100 percent.
And it’s not just wildlife that is threatened by the plastics in our seas. Humans are consuming plastics through the seafood we eat. I could understand why some people see ocean plastic as a disaster, worth mentioning to the same degree as climate change. But ocean plastic is not as complicated as climate change. There are no ocean trash deniers (否认者), at least so far. To do something about it, we don’t have to remake our planet energy system.
This is not a problem where we don’t know what the solution is. We know how to pick up garbage. Anyone can do it. We know how to dispose (处理) of it. We know how to recycle. We can all start by thinking twice before we use single----use plastic products. Things that may seem ordinary, like using a reusable bottle or a reusable bag----when taken collectively, these choices really do make a difference.
8. What’s the fun_ction of the author mentioning Blue Planet II’s latest episode in the first paragraph
A. It serves as a comment. B. It serves as a lead-in.
C. It serves as a background. D. It serves as a conclusion.
9. Why is plastics pollution research still a very early science
A.Plastics have gained in popularity too fast for science to catch up.
B. Plastics have produced less pollution than coal.
C. The world couldn’t possibly fun_ction without plastics.
D. The plastics pollution research is too difficult.
10. How did the author support his opinion in Paragraph 3
A. By using examples from his own experience. B. By quotations from leading experts.
C. By statistics. D. By comparison and contrast.
11. What is the main idea of this passage
A. Ocean plastic is a global issue. B. Plastics gain in popularity all over the world
C. Blue Planet II has left viewers heartbroken. D.The oceans become choked with plastic.
D
According to a survey, the waste of food on the dining table occupies 10% of the total grain output. Last week Meituan co-published a proposal with a number of business organizations, calling on restaurants to stop food waste and help develop new eating habits for customers. “Restaurants should use official accounts on social media and live-streaming to promote and advocate food-saving actions,” the proposal said.
Meituan and the organizations are advocating that merchants offer guidance for consumers, including reminding them during the ordering process about the taste of the ingredients, portion sizes and other information about the dishes, to help them avoid food waste due to misleading information.
Catering associations in more than 18 provinces have also joined the campaign to remove food waste. The Wuhan Catering Association proposed an “N-1” ordering code for restaurants in which a group of 10 diners would only order enough for nine people. More food is only brought to the table if required. It has inspired people to rethink their relationship with food and waste.
On Friday, the China Cuisine Association announced that it had teamed up with Ele.me, a food delivery platform, to launch a “half-dish plan”, encouraging restaurants to provide customers with the option to order smaller portions. Besides, customers are encouraged to take their leftovers home.
To reduce food waste on social media platforms, some popular video platforms have stepped up content reviews of food-related live streams and implemented (实施) regulations of online eating shows. Now, if users search certain keywords, such as “eating show” or “competitive eaters”, a cautionary message pops up to remind them to cherish food and keep a reasonable diet.
12. What is the purpose of the proposal mentioned in the passage
A.To encourage restaurants to take measures to reduce food waste.
B. To expand the business and competitive ability of Meituan.
C.To monitor food sales on social media and live-streaming.
D. To promote cooperation between Meituan and other organizations.
13. How is Paragraph 3 developed
A. By doing a survey. B. By offering analysis.
C. By giving an example. D. By making comparisons.
14. What is the suggestion for consumers in the passage
A. Purchasing their favorite food. B. Buying proper amounts of food.
C. Following some competitive eaters. D. Leaving their leftovers in the restaurant.
15. What does the underlined phrase “pops up” in the last paragraph mean
A. Moves quickly. B. Spreads widely.
C. Appears unexpectedly. D. Fades slowly.

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Reading poetry can be challenging, but learning how to carefully move through a poem is also very rewarding. 16 But, by following the tips below, anyone can have the deeply rewarding experience of connecting to a great poem.
Sound abounds (有许多). Poetry is made to be heard. You’re probably familiar with rhyming poems: roses are red, violets are blue... but there are many sound elements that poets use not only to make the poem sound beautiful, but to enhance the meaning or intention of a poem. 17 What do you notice about how it sounds How does the sound enhance an overall theme, mood, or message
18 Many poems may use words or reference places or times in history that may be unfamiliar to you. Be curious enough to look up all the words and references that you’re unfamiliar with. You should also gather information about the poet, what was happening in their lives, and what was going on in the world around them. All of these can offer essential context to bring the poem to life.
Analyze the figurative (比喻的) language in the poem. Figurative language could be words that are repeated often in the poem or words that rhyme in each stanza (节). To get more into the figurative meaning of the poem, you should look at how the poet uses literary devices like metaphor, simile, and imagery. 19
Finally, you don’t have to understand it to engage with it and enjoy it. If you like the way a poem sounds when you read it aloud, but don’t know what it “means”, that’s OK! 20 The great thing about art is that it can have lots of different meanings or seemingly no meaning at all and can still be enjoyed. The same goes for poetry.
A. Curiosity kills the confusion.
B. Look up the words you do not understand.
C. Once you find a poem that interests you, read it out loud several times.
D. Maybe it makes sense in a way that you can’t necessarily express.
E. They are often used to add deeper meaning to the poem.
F. You should also pay attention to how the poet opens and closes the poem.
G. Unlike painting and music, poetry requires a little extra effort to harvest its full effects.

Dear Tom,
How is everything going I feel terribly sorry for missing the chance of answering your letter in time. You know, I’ve been preparing for the final exams these days, so I forgot to write back. In your letter, you asked me for my plans on summer vacation. Now, I am writing to tell you some specific details.
Overall, three things will make my summer vacation meaningful. To start with, doing a part-time job is my dream and I intend to work as a salesman because not only can I earn money by myself, but also it will broaden my horizons. In addition, it is a fabulous choice to visit some famous scenic spots such as Mount Tai during the vacation, in order to enjoy appealing scenery and make more friends. What is more, doing voluntary work, I think, will make a great contribution to the society, which is able to enrich my life.
I sincerely apologize again for my mistake. By the way, what’s your plan to spend your summer vacation I am looking forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
