Are you scared about moving up to senior high school? It can be a new experience, but you shouldn’t worry. We’ve put together a guide to help you in the first week.
You’re not alone
Remember everybody else in your year is in the same boat. They may not realize it,but they’re just as nervous as you are. Moving to senior high school is an opportunity, not a problem. Things are different and all you need to do is to be polite and learn the new rules.
Teachers are ready to help
If you’re unsure what to do or are worried about anything, then ask for help. Teachers are probably the best people to turn to as they’re experienced in helping new students. Some senior high schools also have a “friends system”.If your school has this, then you will be paired with an older student. He/She will help you if you have any problems or questions.
All change
There are lots of differences between junior high school and senior high school. You’ll have a homework diary or a student planner. You will have your lessons with different teachers in different rooms. You will have homework for different subjects on different days,so make sure you get organized. Make sure you have a copy of your school timetable written down so you know which rooms your classes are in and on which days you will have your different subjects.
Other points
If you’ve got an older brother or sister at the school, then ask them for advice. Be yourself! It sounds simple, but people will know you much better if you just act naturally.
Having early nights makes a difference and you’ll find it easier to get up in the morning!
21. New students turn to teachers first when having problems because teachers ________.
A.can find friends for students
B.are good at helping new students
C.can look after students like parents
D.care for younger students more
22. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage
A.You should act in a natural way.
B.You should go to bed early.
C.You must know how to dress properly.
D.You can ask your older brother for advice.
23. The author wrote the passage to ________.
A.tell students the importance of learning
B.warn students not to ignore friendship in senior high school
C.make a difference when moving up to senior high school
D.help new students to get used to the life in senior high school.

Two years ago I was very lonely and didn’t talk with anyone about my feelings. At the time I didn’t have many friends. I wanted someone to share my experiences and secrets with. I wanted someone to understand me. I started to imagine this friend. Often I imagined our conversations and what we would do, but I didn’t give my imagination a face.
Some weeks later I started a new project in the school and I was working with one of my schoolmates. We had never worked together before but we got along well with each other. After the project we started to spend some time together in school. One day we decided to take a walk. Ever since that walk we’ve been friends. We listened to and really understood each other.
I had wished for a best friend, but the universe gave me so much more. I have met one of my soulmates(知己). We can sense each other, and just takes one look and we know what the other is thinking. I never thought our friendship could grow much stronger. But now we have known each other for two years and our friendship is growing all the time.
It hasn't only been easy. We have gone through both easy and hard times. But I’m grateful for the hard times, because they have forced me to grow and taught me a lot. My best friend has changed me. She has made me believe in myself. And I am now focusing on achieving my biggest dream. Without her, I wouldn't even have realized what my biggest dream is.
I know there are soulmates out in the world for you. I am so thankful to have met one of mine. Believe it, and your paths will cross.
24. What did the author do before meeting her soulmate
A. She chose to stay alone.
B. She spent time with other friends.
C. She told others about her feelings.
D. She pictured a friend in her mind.
25. How did the author get ti know her soulmate
A. By taking a walk.
B. By attending a party.
C. Through a school project.
D.Through a friend’s introduction.
26. What do we know about the author and her soulmate
A. Their friendship is still developing.
B. She is the author’s only soulmate.
C. They are trying hard to realize their dreams.
D. The author has little confidence in their friendship.
27. Why is the author thankful for the hard times
A. Because they have made her suffer.
B. Because she got through them easily.
C. Because she has learned a lot from them.
D. Because they have made her dream come true.
C
When asked to point out one or two things that are most important to themselves, many put friends ahead of homes, jobs, clothes and cars.
A true friendship carries a long history of experience that determines(确定)who we are and keeps us connected. It is a treasure we should protect. Unfortunately, the better friends you are, the more probably you'll have disagreements. And the result can be what you don't want—an end to the relationship.
The good news is that most troubled friendships can be mended. First, don't let your pride get in your way. Most of us can forgive each other when differences are brought out in the open. Second, apologize when you're wrong—even if you've been wronged. Over the course of a friendship, even the best people make mistakes. Sometimes, it may be best if the wronged person takes the lead and apologizes. When you apologize, give your friend a chance to admit that he has been wrong. Third, see things from your friend's point of view(观点). And finally, accept that friendships change as our needs and lifestyles change. Making friends can sometimes seem easy. The hard part is keeping the connections strong during the natural ups and downs that have an effect on all relationships. My suggestion: Consider the friendship an honor and a gift, and worth the effort to treasure and nurture(培养).

A.who has been mistaken for another
B.who has been blamed unfairly

A.we have much in common
B.we know our friends' mistakes
C.we treat our disagreements wisely
D.we have known one another for long
31. What should we do if we follow the author's second suggestion
A.Stick to our own point of view. B.Avoid making mistakes.
C.Make an apology first. D.Change our lifestyles.

There are some differences between American English and British English. Some differences are quite interesting.
When my friend Lily from London used the word “larder”, I didn’t know what it meant. Realizing I didn’t follow her, she used another word. I finally knew she wanted to find something to keep some food. The next word came up when we were planning a lunch date. She jotted down the date and time in her diary, while I marked my calendar. If she called me on the phone, she would ring me up. But if the line was busy, she would say the line was engaged.
Most times, I can know what Lily means. Last week, she regretted sending her boys to watch an early morning tennis game without their fleeces. I thought that she meant without their jackets or something like those. Other times, we have to ask each other. She recently told me a funny tale about a woman who was pissed. I wondered what had made the lady angry. It turns out that pissed means drunk.
Here is one more example. My British friend Jane was filling out a ticket at the grocery store recently. She asked the young man if he had a rubber. When she noticed he didn’t follow her, she quickly asked for an eraser, which, in England, is often called a rubber.
In order to communicate well with the British, we Americans should learn some words that the British use differently. And I think people who learn English as a second language should also realize that there are differences between American English and British English.
32. When Lily used the word “larder”, what was she probably looking for
A. A ladder. B. A cupboard. C. Some food. D. A cook.
33. When Lily says “The woman was pissed.”, what does the sentence mean
A.The woman was drunk.
B. The woman drank a lot of water.
C. The woman fell over.
D. The woman was killed.
34. According to the text, in British English, ________.
A. the word “fleeces” means “tickets”
B. the word “pissed” means “angry”
C. the word “engaged” means “broken”
D. the word “rubber” means “eraser”
35. What is the writer’s attitude towards “Americans learning English”
A. Careless B. Negative
C. Positive . D. Neutral (中立的)

39 If you can help your friend make a list of how great she is, what her strengths are, or how great her life is, it can help her in the healing process. When you divert (转移) your friend’s focus away from her pain and toward something positive instead, you can help her start thinking and feeling more positive.
40

写作范文:
Dear Mr. Headmaster,
I am Li Hua, a student from Class1, Senior1. I am writing to draw your attention to some improper behaviour among us students: littering and scribbling.
First, it makes our school dirty and does harm to the image of our school. I always feel ashamed whenever I see this. What’s more, it is clearly not appropriate for a student to litter and scribble everywhere. Therefore, I wonder if the school could place more dustbins around and set up specific rules against such behaviour. At the same time, students should be encouraged to develop good habits and better behave themselves. I’m convinced that, with the joint efforts of both teachers and students , our school will become a more enjoyable place in the near future.
Thank you for your consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Li Hua
