You may not know a lot of people when you start high school. Even if you know some freshmen (新生), you still feel nervous that you don’t know any upperclassmen or teachers. How are you going to make friends among this sea of unknown faces
Most high schools hold a freshman orientation before school actually starts, which is helpful not only because you can know your way around the building and get to meet some of your teachers, but also because you get to meet fellow freshmen. That way, when you show up on your first day of school, you may already recognize a few familiar faces. When you talk to your new classmates, you’ll probably find that a lot of them are feeling just like you are. They’re all new to the school and don’t know what to expect. Talking about a common worry with them can help you develop friendships.
The work in high school is something that freshmen are possibly worried about. The work in high school builds on what you learnt in middle school, giving you a more advanced knowledge of many subjects. So you may find you have more work to do or that it’s a bit more challenging. If you ever find your work too difficult, teachers can give you extra help.
High school also has more extracurricular activities than middle school does such as clubs, music and theatre groups and sports teams. This is a good time to explore your interests and try new things.
High school gives you the chance to learn how to manage your time, to develop your social skills and interests, and more importantly to be more independent and responsible.
24. What does the underlined word “orientation” mean in paragraph 2
A. Game. B. Discussion.
C. Training. D. Examination.
25. What are freshmen probably worried about
A. The learning task. B. The ability to make friends.
C. The friendship with teacher. D. The freshman orientation.
26. Extracurricular activities mainly help students _________.
A. build up healthy bodies. B. develop their interests.
C. develop friendships. D. improve their learning ability.
27. Who is the passage written for
A. Freshmen at high school. B. Freshmen’s parents.
C. Middle school students D. Upperclassmen in high school.
C 25. A 26. B 27. A

划线部分是一段的总结,而下面的对话“My favorite videos are all about pets,” said Zhou Na, a nurse in Hefei, capital of East China’s Anhui province. “After a whole day’s work, watching the 15-second videos makes me laugh, which reduces my pressure.” Fans say that the short videos help them chill out from a stressed-out lifestyle. A. Can you imagine a world without music Studies show that public schools across the country are cutting back on music classes to save money. Worse, some schools have never had music classes to begin with. But without them, students’ academic growth and emotional health could suffer. In fact, music classes are necessary for all students in schools.
Recent studies by Brown University have shown that students who received music education classes were better in maths and reading skills than those without music classes. Another study by the College Board found that students taking music and art classes got higher points. Students' academic success seems to depend on their taking part in music education.
Music programmes in public schools also help to add to a students sense of pride and self-confidence. Teens today have too many learning tasks. Besides, they have family problems, self-confidence problems, relationship troubles, and other troubles. All of these can stop academic success, but music education can help. A study by the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse found that students who took part in school music programmes were less likely to turn to drugs. Music programmes encourage students to work together to produce an excellent performance.
Music crosses language, class, cultural and political boundaries. Music allows students from different countries to connect. For example, at a school talent show, a new Japanese student played a piano duet with an American classmate. Although they could not communicate verbally, they were able to read the music in order to play the duet. Two students from different cultures worked as a team with self-confidence and common purpose through music.
The gift of music is priceless. We need to be sure to have necessary music classes for all students. The world is losing its music, and putting music into schools is the first step to get it back.
32. What can we learn about education with music classes
A. It allows schools to make more profits.
B. It leads to a lot of emotional problems easily.
C. It helps students to improve their schoolwork.
D. It has a great influence on the culture of the country.
33. What do the two studies seem to show
A. Not all students take part in music lessons.
B. Students with great success like to attend music lessons.
C. Music plays an important role in students’ success.
D. Students having music classes are better in all lessons.
34. The example in Paragraph 4 mainly suggests that ________.
A. different cultures have different styles of music
B. music makes cross-country communication possible
C. Japan has a good international relationship with America
D. Japanese and American students are good at playing the piano
35. What is the best title for the text
A. How to Get Music Back B. Music Education in Schools
C Music—a Bridge to Understanding D. The Importance of Listening to Music

It’s always a good time.(这总是一段美好的时光)以及后文And for some reason, even instant noodles taste better on the train than they do anywhere else.(而且,由于某些原因,即使是方便面在火车上吃起来也比在其他地方吃起来好吃)由此可知,本句承接上文,说明火车上的时光美好的具体表现,后文提到了食物好吃,那么本句应当是说明火车上的人们很友好,乐于和人聊天。

It was time to go home.“Remember to work on your class speeches for homework, ”Miss Walker called, as everyone started talking and packing their school bags. Jenny felt sick. She hated having to read aloud in class. She was sure everyone got really bored listening to her. Once, when Jenny was reading out her holiday diary, Lee was even looking at his watch, a silver and blue one which seemed just magical.
Jenny watched Lee walk ahead of her as they left school. He seemed so clever, and he had a certain sort of shining confidence. He was just one of those people who were good at everything. Jenny sighed. As she turned the corner, she saw Lee’s watch lying right in the middle of the path.
Jenny knew she should just pick it up and return it to him, but she didn’t want to run after him. Jenny bent down quickly, picked up the watch and ran home. On arriving home, Jenny put it on almost without thinking. She was surprised it fitted so well. She walked to the mirror and started practicing her speech. Words just flooded out of her.“I’m going to talk about swimming. I have been lucky. I’ve won lots of competitions. But when I’m in a race, I’m not really thinking about winning. I’m just loving the feeling of being in the water...”Jenny laughed with excitement. She walked across the room. She suddenly seemed to have a certain sort of confidence. Turning back to the mirror, Jenny saw a flash of light from the watch in the glass. The flashes of silver seemed almost magical. So maybe Lee’s watch really DID have something magic.
The next day, as the lesson began, Miss Walker asked who was going to be brave and go first. No-body moved. Jenny slowly raised her arm. Before Miss Walker could say anything, there was a shout from behind. “She’s stolen my watch!” Lee said angrily,“ It went missing at school yesterday.”
注意:1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
2. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;
Paragraph 1: Everybody was fixing their eyes on Jenny, waiting for an explanation.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2: At that moment, Miss Walker smiled and asked the class to listen to Jenny’s speech first.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Everybody was fixing their eyes in Jenny, waiting for an explanation. Dead silence suddenly fell. So embarrassed was Jenny that she felt her face burning and her mind going blank. Despite the unwillingness to admit it, she had actually made the most shameful mistake. Jenny was thrown into a dilemma whether to tell the truth or not. Considering the well-prepared speech and the magic of the watch, she plucked up her courage, uttering in a begging tone, “But Miss Walker, could I deliver the speech first ” All the classmates fell into tremendous curiosity, eager to witness her performance.
At that, Miss Walker smiled and asked the class to listen to Jenny’s speech. Overwhelmed with excitement, Jenny confidently made her way to the platform, words flooding out of her fluently. Never before in her life had she delivered such a terrific speech. Praises spread around the classroom and even Miss Walker nodded with approval. Feeling incredibly refreshed, Jenny finished her speech, which was greeted with thunderous applause. Relieved, Jenny exposed the truth and especially the magic of the watch. “But it’s just an ordinary watch without any magic.” announced Lee. Not until then did Jenny realize the real source of confidence comes from his effort rather than the watch.
Everybody was fixing their eyes on Jenny, waiting for an explanation. At that moment, Miss Walker smiled and asked the class to listen to Jenny’s speech first.

33. What do the two studies seem to show

B. Students with great success like to attend music lessons.
C. Music plays an important role in students’ success.
D. Students having music classes are better in all lessons.
34. The example in Paragraph 4 mainly suggests that ________.

D Japanese and American students are good at playing the piano
