There are two days that set you on your path in life: the day you’re born, and the day you realize why you were born.
Growing up south of Chicago in Harvey, Illinois, most people just had their heads down trying to make it from point A to point B. I was the same way, just going with the flow. I played basketball in high school because I was good at it and because other people thought I should until I discovered my talent.
I give up basketball and started doing speeches. It wasn’t a popular decision but my grandfather told me to do what made me happy. I fell in love with comedy and performing. And when I discovered the passion, I realized why I was born.
I knew I had something to offer —I knew that not only am I powerful, but I can make a difference.
I realized a long time ago that my dream is not to be famous or rich. My talent is to entertain. But it’s more than that. I have the chance to reach people, to brighten days, to bring laughter and positive energy into lives and inspire. And I am grateful for it.
Acting putting myself out there and having doors closed on me time and time again has taught me a lot about myself. I have learned to trust what I have to offer the world over momentary doubt. I’ve learned to put my faith over my feelings. And I've grown a tough skin. More importantly, I have learned there is a long way towards our goals and that when we put our talents and passion to work, we determine our value.
Like a lot of places across the country, there’s poverty, crime, violence and unemployment in Harvey. And growing up there, a lot of people have tragically low expectations for life. But I know that with the right opportunity and with help along the way, everyone can find their passion and go after it. My life is proof.
4. What was the author born to do according to the text
A. Be a basketball player. B. Act and perform.
C. Make speeches. D. Teach people.
5. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 5 refer to
A. Chance. B. Energy. C. Days. D. Laughter.
6. What is the author’s purpose of writing this text
A. To help others find their talents. B. To prove his decision was right.
C. To inspire people to follow their dreams. D. To encourage people to set a goal.
7. What can be the best tile for the text
A. Success Lies in Hard Work. B. How to Achieve the Dream Is Important.
C. The Two Important Days in Life. D. The Day I Realized What I Was Born to Do.
B 5. A 6. C 7. D

The exhibit, Digital Dunhuang, which is being held at the Hong Kong Museum this month, has brought to Hong Kong more than 100 exhibits including the visual murals (虚拟壁画) of Dunhuang Cave 285 and Dunhuang Cave 61, and other related programs that allow visitors to learn about the art and history of the Dunhuang Caves in a fun way.
“Dunhuang was an international city on the Silk Road where East met West. So the Dunhuang Caves, which were completed in a period of over 1,000 years, record the ways of life and religious beliefs of the different peoples that crossed paths there.” explained Fion Lin of Hong Kong Museum.
Unlike some other cultural treasures, the Dunhuang Caves cannot travel. But visitors can now experience these faraway treasures in a way that is impossible even if they are in the caves, thanks to the digitization project of the Dunhuang Academy, a pioneer that has made great progress in the digitization and 3D scanning of the Dunhuang treasures.
“Studies have shown that in a Dunhuang Cave, both temperature and CO2 concentration level can be raised with 15 tourists inside for ten minutes and the wall paintings are going to eventually fade. Digital technology has helped to strike a balance between sharing the treasures and protecting them,” said Lin.
However, digitization of the caves faces many challenges such as poor lighting and rough wall surfaces. On average, 40, 000 pictures have to be taken to cover 300 m2, in addition to great amount of effort to piece the pictures together. What the exhibition presents here is the result of years of hard work.
During the exhibition period, talks on Dunhuang music culture and Dunhuang history are also being held at the Museum for public participation.
8. What can visitors see at the Digital Dunhuang exhibit in HK
A. All Dunhuang Caves. B. About 40,000 Dunhuang pictures.
C. Digital Dunhuang wall paintings. D. Ancient records of Dunhuang.
9. What is the significance of the digitization project of the Dunhuang Academy
A. It helps Dunhuang become an international city.
B. It lets people better appreciate the Dunhuang art.
C. It is effective in cutting the CO2 level in the Caves.
D. It attracts more tourists from East and West to Hong Kong.
10. What do we know about the Dunhuang paintings
A. They are brightly lit. B. They are very rough.
C. It is very hard to protect them. D. It is impossible for the tourists to see them.
11. Where can you find the evidence that supports “Digitization of the Caves isn’t easy”
A. In paragraph 2. B. In paragraph 3.
C. In paragraph 4. D. In paragraph 5.
C 9. B 10. C 11. D
根据第一段内容“The exhibit, Digital Dunhuang, which is being held at the Hong Kong Museum this month, has brought to Hong Kong more than 100 exhibits including the visual murals (虚拟壁画) of Dunhuang Cave 285 and Dunhuang Cave 61, and other related programs that allow visitors to learn about the art and history of the Dunhuang Caves in a fun way.”(本月在香港博物馆举行的展览“数字敦煌”已经向香港带来了超过100件展品,其中包括敦煌洞穴285和敦煌洞穴 61的虚拟壁画,以及其他相关节目,让游客能够以有趣的方式了解敦煌洞穴的艺术和历史。)
根据第三段内容“Unlike some other cultural treasures, the Dunhuang Caves cannot travel. But visitors can now experience these faraway treasures in a way that is impossible even if they are in the caves, thanks to the digitization project of the Dunhuang Academy, a pioneer that has made great progress in the digitization and 3D scanning of the Dunhuang treasures.”(与其他一些文化珍品不同,敦煌石窟不能旅行。
根据第四段关键句“Studies have shown that in a Dunhuang Cave, both temperature and CO2 concentration level can be raised with 15 tourists inside for ten minutes and the wall paintings are going to eventually fade.”(研究表明,在敦煌洞中,15名游客在洞内停留10分钟,温度和二氧化碳浓度都会升高,壁画最终会褪色。)
根据第五段内容“However, digitization of the caves faces many challenges such as poor lighting and rough wall surfaces. On average, 40, 000 pictures have to be taken to cover 300 m2, in addition to great amount of effort to piece the pictures together. What the exhibition presents here is the result of years of hard work.”(然而,洞穴的数字化面临着许多挑战,如光线不足和墙面粗糙。
D
A bat and a ball cost $1.10 in total. The bat costs $1.00 more than the ball. How much does the ball cost
If you answered 10 cents, you’re not alone – most people give the same answer (the correct answer is 5 cents). It’s an example of how we often rely on intuitive(直觉的)responses – answers we feel are true. People give answers that “pop into their mind,” says Steven Sloman. We don’t spend much time “reflecting and checking whether the answer is right or wrong.”
The bat and ball question helps explain why we often believe in fake(假的)news. It is part of human nature to believe, says Sloman. But “the trick with fake news is to know to verify” --- in other words, to stop and question what you know. In one experiment, Sloman and a colleague invented a discovery called helium rain. They told a group of volunteers about it, but admitted they could not fully explain what it was. They then asked the volunteers to rate their own understanding of helium rain. Most volunteers rated themselves 1 out of 7, meaning they did not understand the concept.
The researchers then told another group of volunteers about the discovery. This time, they said that scientists could fully explain how it works. When asked to rate their understanding, the volunteers gave an average answer of 2. The scientists’ confidence gave the volunteers an increased sense of their own understanding, Sloman says.
According to Sloman, studies show that knowledge spreads like a contagion(传染病). This idea can be seen in many fields, including politics. “If everyone around you is saying they understand why a politician is dishonest,” Sloman says, “then you’re going to start thinking that you understand, too.”
Another explanation for the spread of fake news is “motivated reasoning,” writes Adam Wyatz, an American management professor, “we are naturally more likely to believe things that confirm our existing opinions.”
So, in a world where misleading information is common, training people to care about fact-checking is important, especially in online communities. “We should check things and not just take them at face value,” Sloman says. “Verify before you believe.”
12. Why does the author use the example of the bat and ball question
A. To warn that people often ignore skills that they learned.
B. To show that there are various answers to a question.
C. To illustrate that people tend to rush to a conclusion.
D. To arouse people’s interest in playing guessing games.
13. In paragraph 3, what does the underlined word “verify” mean
A. To make sure something is true.
B. To think about something for a long time.
C. To express an opinion about something.
D. To follow your intuitive response.
14. When do more volunteers claim to understand helium rain
A When some of the volunteers explained it to them.
B. When Sloman and his colleagues showed them how it works.
C. When they have more confidence in themselves.
D. When they believed that scientists understood it.
15. Which of the following is an example of “motivated reasoning”
A. You trust a damaging story about someone who you always judge negatively.
B. You post a message online that gives your personal opinion about a news story.
C. You search online for more information about a doubtful story on social media.
D. You think a university professor dishonest when everybody around you say so.
C 13. A 14. D 15. A
根据第二段“It’s an example of how we often rely on intuitive(直觉的)responses – answers we feel are true. People give answers that “pop into their mind,” says Steven Sloman. We don’t spend much time “reflecting and checking whether the answer is right or wrong.””(这是一个我们如何经常依赖直觉反应的例子——我们认为答案是真实的。
根据第三段“in other words, to stop and question what you know.”(换句话说,停止并质疑你所知道的一切)由此可知,识别假新闻的诀窍是知道如何验证。 故选A项。
根据第四段“This time, they said that scientists could fully explain how it works. When asked to rate their understanding, the volunteers gave an average answer of 2. The scientists’ confidence gave the volunteers an increased sense of their own understanding, Sloman says.”(这一次,他们说科学家们可以完全解释它是如何工作的。
故选A项。
Green tourism, a form of ecotourism, is low-impact(环保的)tourism with an eye toward protecting the environment and culture of an area. ____16____, but green tourism can cover a wide range of standard and conditions, from fully compliant(遵守)to less stressful on the environment than standard tourism. There are many opportunities for green travel available worldwide.
____17____, which makes green tourism not only preferable but a necessity in some areas. It might seem wiser of some people to protect natural habitats(栖息地)and fragile environments by banning visitors completely to these areas, but many areas depend on the income from tourism to support the local economy. Green, sustainable(可持续的)tourism is considered offering the best of both worlds.
Green tourism doesn't necessarily mean a vacation spent roughing it with little or no comforts. On the contrary, many people believe that it can be a wonderful adventure. Ecotourism resorts(度假胜地)and ecologies exist in almost every style and taste. ____18____. There are many vacationing choices.
There are also trips available in which vacationers take an active part in improving the local area by working to preserve the natural habitat, helping to build a school or performing other services that benefit the area. These vacations can be a lot of work. ____19____.
As green tourism becomes more popular, there are likely to be more vacationing choices available. More resort areas will likely take steps to have less of an impact on the surrounding environment. ____20____. Local economies might be able to take full advantage of the booming tourist trade without doing harm to the local environment, allowing tourists to enjoy the beauty that these areas have to offer for many years to come.
A. Green tourism is very popular
B. Therefore, we should make the best of them
C. However, many people find them very rewarding
D. Sustainable tourism could easily become the standard
E. From recycling and gray water system to tents on tree houses

G. The United Nations has set up certain standard for ecotourism
G 17. F 18. E 19. C 20. D

故填a。
Provide sth. for sb.

故在day后面加when。
本句中it 指代the car,和start之间动宾关系。
walk all the way home “一路走回家”,home为副词,前面不加介词。
故把is改成was。
故把the改成a。
根据后面的“it only took him a short time to convince her and let him in”可知在短时间让他进去了应该是幸运得事情。

So the Dunhuang Caves which were completed in a period of over 1,000 years, record the ways of life and religious beliefs of the different peoples that crossed paths there.” explained Fion Lin of Hong Kong Museum.

A To make sure something is true.
B. To think about something for a long time.
C. To express an opinion about something.
D. To follow your intuitive response.
14. When do more volunteers claim to understand helium rain
A. When some of the volunteers explained it to them.
