W: I'm worried about my 15-year-old son.
M: Why, Cindy
W: It seems all the food he likes is bringing him some trouble.
He likes chocolate. Of course he can't have too much

hamburger for breakfast every morning, but now he has
to stop because his weight raised by 10 pounds in a month!
M: That's really a problem.
W: What's more, chicken is his favorite kind of meat, but now
we have bird flu!

W: "Black sheep" What do you mean, Joe
M: I smoked, drank a lot and went out with the bad guys, which
always made my parents angry.
W: It's unbelievable! How could it be
M: I guess it was because I had nothing to do at that time and I
was too young to understand my parents.
W: But you are completely different now.
M: Yes. It was my uncle. He taught me a lesson when I was
eighteen.
W: What did he do
M: He took me to the top of a high building and asked me to
make a decision, to jump or to stay. I chose to stay. Then
my life has changed ever since. Just as simple as that.

Now it's time for our weekly competition. Last week's prize of two concert tickets was won by William Martins whose number is 3078-1025. Congratulations, William! I hope you have received your tickets. This week we are offering a classical CD to the first listener who can name the piece of music and the person who wrote it. Before I play the piece of music, you need to get a pencil and a piece of paper, as I'm going to give you some help which could make your job a little easier. Listen carefully and you might be this week's lucky winner. First, although the person who wrote the music was born in Italy, he spent most of his life in Spain. Second, there's a famous play which has the same title and is often played in the open air in summer. The last point, part of his music has been used for an ad on TV. I'm not going to tell you what it is, because that would almost tell you the answer! Now please ring 9761-5422 and the music is coming up. Hope you'll enjoy it!

W1: Whenever I meet new people in this country I always have to explain where I'm from, and when I'm back in Britain, I'm surrounded by people who know about my background. When I first moved to Australia, I felt I had to explain my background to everyone I met because I came from a culture where everyone likes to know about you. I got sick of it after a while.
W2: I think that's your British background, Ann. I don't feel that way living in New York. New York is the world's culture. People are coming and going all the time, so they don't care that much about where you're from. They might say "Where are you from Oh, Australia." and then they'll ask about kangaroos or something and then that's it.
M: Well, a lot of times I feel I know so little about this country, especially about popular culture. You go somewhere and everyone knows someone's name--a famous actor or singer or whatever--who's well-known only in Australia. I found it time and time again when I first moved from California. Everybody knew about someone or some event, but I don't have anything on my mind.
返回
W1: You travel a lot, Dave.
M: I do. I don't like staying in one place and doing nothing.
W1: Are there any places that impressed you most
M: Let me see.. I guess it's Scotland and Tokyo. In Scotland, I saw the most
beautiful scenery in my life. But when I was in Tokyo I lost myself
completely because I had never been so close to an Asian culture before.
What about you, Lisa
W1: I went to Moscow on business two years ago. It was so different from
Australia. Those days were the coldest days I have experienced.
W2: I bet Moscow is much warmer than one of the places I've been to, Lisa.
Guess where I've been.
W1: The North Pole or the South Pole
W2: The South Pole.
M: Wow, fantastic! Did you go there for your study
W2: Yeah. I'll bring you some photos next time. The other place I love is
Yunnan in China. It's called "Spring City" because it has the most
pleasant weather in the world.
M: China I'm just planning a trip to China. Tell me more about it, Ann...
返回
W: Dave, here's something for you about the tour of China.
M: Oh, thanks, Ann... Look at this one, Looking Into the East.
W: A nice name, huh An eleven-day tour around China for you to explore
the east. Sounds good. Eleven days is neither too long nor too short.
M: But will it be hot in May in China The tour is from May 8th to 18th.
W: It depends on where you're going. Let's see the places: Beijing, Xi'an,
Nanjing; Luoyang, and Hangzhou. They all used to be ancient capitals of
China, if I'm not wrong. I believe you can have a good study of Chinese
history.
M: Really That's what I'm interested in. Anyway, 200 dollars for a good
chance of study. Not expensive, is it
W: Not at all. You'd better call to ask for more information, the weather and
things like that.
M: Yes. Here's the number, 256-3708. I'll call them. Thanks a lot.

Hello from Beijing!
How time flies! China is great. We took the tour from the south to the north. Hangzhou first, then Nanjing, Xi'an and Luoyang. Now we are in Beijing, the last stop of this tour. I feel I have really looked into the east, but China is so different from Japan. See the picture on the card This is the city where the 29th Olympic Games will be held. There are so many things to see in China. I think I'll come again soon.
Love,
Dave
