As we all know, English is an important subject in middle school. Everyone knows that they must learn English well, but some people don't know how to learn it well. Here are some suggestions which may help you with your English.
The biggest problem is people's own fear. They worry that they won't say things correctly or that they will look foolish so that they don't speak English at all. Don't be afraid of being laughed at. Only if we aren't afraid of making mistakes can we learn English well.
The fastest way to learn something is to do it again and again until you get it right. Learning English needs practice. Don't let a little fear stop you from getting what you want.
The best way to learn English is to have a good environment. Take notes in English, put English books around your room, listen to English radios, watch English news, movies and TV programs. Speak English with your friends whenever you can. The more English materials that you have around you, the faster you will learn it.
Many people think that exercises and tests aren't much fun. However, by doing exercises and taking tests you can really improve your English. If you never test yourself, you will never know how much you are making progress.

A.putting English books around your room
B.listening to English radios
C.watching English news and movies
D.speaking English with your friends only in class

A.very necessary B.not helpful at all
C.very boring D.not important

I began to grow up that winter night when my parents and I were returning from my aunt’s house, and my mother said that we might soon be leaving for America. We were on the bus then. I was crying, and some people on the bus were turning around to look at me. I remember that I could not bear the thought of never hearing again the radio program for school children to which I listened every morning.
I do not remember myself crying for this reason again. In fact, I think I cried very little when I was saying goodbye to my friends and relatives. When we were leaving, I thought about all the places I was going to see—the strange and magical places I had known only from books and pictures. The country I was leaving and never to come back was hardly in my head then.
The four years that followed taught me the importance of optimism(乐观), but the idea did not come to me at once. For the first two years in New York, I was really lost—having to study in three schools as a result of family moves. I did not quite know what I was or what I should be. Mother remarried, and things became even more complex for me. Some time passed before my stepfather(继父)and I got used to each other. I was often sad and saw no end to “the hard times.”
My responsibilities in the family increased a lot since I knew English better than everyone else at home. I wrote letters, filled out forms, translated at interviews with immigration officers(移民局官员), took my grandparents to the doctor and translated there, and even discussed telephone bills with company representatives.
From my experiences I have learned one important rule: Almost all common troubles go away at last! Something good is certain to happen in the end when you do not give up, and just wait a little! I believe that my life will turn out all right, even though it will not be that easy.
28.How did the author get to know America
A.From radio programs B.From books and pictures
C.From her mother D.From her relatives
29.For the first two years in New York, the author ________.
A.often lost her way B.did not think about her future
C.studied in three different schools D.got on well with her stepfather
30.What can we learn about the author from Paragraph 4
A.She worked as a translator. B.She attended a lot of job interviews.
C.She paid telephone bills for her family. D.She helped her family with her English.
31.The author believes that ________.
A.her future will be free from troubles B.it is difficult to learn to become patient
C.there are more good things than bad things D.good things will happen if one keeps trying
D
Your house may have an influence on your figure. Experts say the way you design your home could play a role in whether you put on weight or lose weight. You can make your environment work for you instead of against you. Here are some ways to turn your home into part of diet plan.
Open the curtains (窗帘) and turn up the lights . Dark environments are more likely to encourage overeating , for people are often less self-conscious(难为情)when they’re in poorly lit places-and so more likely to eat lots of food . If your home doesn’t have enough window light, get more lamps (灯) and flood the place with brightness.
Mind the colors. Research suggests warm colors increase our appetites (胃口). In one study, people who ate meals in a blue room consumed (消耗) 33% less than those in a yellow or red room. Warm colors like yellow make food appear more delicious, while cold colors make us feel less hungry. So, when it’s time to repaint, go blue.
Don’t forget the clock-or the radio. People who eat slowly tend to consume about 70 fewer calories(卡路里) each meal than those who rush through their meals. Begin paying attention to the time and try to make dinner last at least 30 minutes. And while you’re at it, actually sit down to eat. If you need some help slowing down, turn on relaxing music. It makes you less likely to rush through a meal.
Downsize the dishes. Big serving bowls and plates (盘子) can easily make us fat. We eat about 22% more when using a 12-inch (英寸) plate instead of a 10-inch plate. When we choose a large spoon over a smaller one ,total intake(摄入) jumps by 14%. And we’ll pour (倒) about 30 percent more liquid into a short, wide glass than a tall, skinny glass.
32. The text is especially helpful for those who care about_______.
A. their home comforts B. their body shape C. house buying D. healthy diets
33. A home environment in blue can help people_________.
A. enjoy food better B. eat less food C. burn more calories D. have bigger appetites
34. What are people advised to do at mealtimes
A. Eat quickly. B. Play fast music. C. Use smaller spoons. D. Turn down the lights.
35. What can be a suitable title for the test
A. Is Your House Making You Fat B. Ways of Serving Dinner
C. Influence of Colors D. Is Your Home Environment Relaxing

Public Speaking Training
Get a coach
36 ,so get help. Since there are about a billion companies out there all ready to offer you public speaking training and courses, here are some things to look for when deciding the training that's right for you.
Focus on positives
Any training you do to become more effective at public speaking should always focus on the positive aspects of what you already do well. Nothing can hurt confidence more than being told that you aren't doing well. 37 , so good public speaking training should develop those instead of telling you what you shouldn't do.
38
If you find a public speaking course that looks as though it's going to give you lots of dos and don'ts, walk away! Your brain is so full of what you're going to be talking about. 39 . As far as we're concerned, there are basically no hard and fast rules about public speaking. Your audience can be your friends.
You are a special person not a clone
Most importantly, good public speaking training should treat you as a special one, with your own personal habits. 40 . Your training course should help you bring out your personality, not try to turn you into someone you're not.
A. You aren't like anybody else
B. You already do lots of things well
C. Turn your back on too many rules
D. Check the rules about dos and don'ts
E. Whatever the presentation (演讲), public speaking is tough

Dear Tom,
You have asked me for my advice on how to get along well with other students. My suggestions are as follows.
To begin with, we should keep it in mind that any good relationship is based on understanding, trust and respect. As long as we treat them sincerely, we are sure to gain their respect in return. What’s more, we should be broad-minded, which means that we should respect opinions and behavior that are different from ours. Last but not least, it is also necessary to stand in others’ shoes and learn to forgive their faults.
I hope you will take my suggestions into serious account. Looking forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

My experience on English learning
When I was in senior high school, I found English learning a great challenge to me. However, I didn’t know what to do, so I turned to my English teacher for help. She told me that the key to learning English was my attitude. As long as I had confidence and made efforts to practise English, I would learn it well. Therefore, I should make the most of time and put my heart into it because success lies in hard work. What the teacher said made a big difference to me. I decided to balance my English learning with other activities.
Now, I have graduated from senior high school. I have made advances in English as well, and it is helpful in all aspects of my life.
